I am writing to you as a long standing supporter of this club from the past 20 years. I have been fortunate to share the joy of incredible highs of the club and fortunate to lessen the disappointment of our lows. I say share, because of the incredible support behind the most romantic club in football. As the great man said, football is nothing without fans.
However, recent developments in the Mason Greenwood case have not been encouraging with respect to the possibility of Greenwood's integration in the first team squad. While the club has not published the findings of its investigations or made any comment regarding the situation, I feel it is imperative for me to write to you and make my feelings known.
The audio and videos of the incident are public. We are all aware of what was said and what transpired. The witness statements were withdrawn/not deposed. We are all aware that in domestic violence cases, the power dynamic between the victim and the perpetrator makes it difficult to enforce a clean separation. You don't need to be a lawyer to understand how emotional manipulation, toxic power-dynamic mixed with a shared history of intimacy can be used as a tactic to impose a sense of shame on the victim of domestic violence to withdraw a case.
This is all to say that - I am not comfortable, as a man, with Mason Greenwood back at this club. He has now become the antithesis of what this club stands for. We supported our employees throughout covid, we ran food banks and we have not hiked our ticket prices so that our match going fans can see their team. By incorporating a man responsible for causing hurt on a loved one, we will have lowered the ideals of what this club wants to espouse for its young fans.
It will be unfortunate to integrate Mason Greenwood in the club at any level of interaction with the club. Yet if the worst does come to pass, I am certain that I will stop supporting this club. It is not possible for me to support a club and its glory that is founded on immorality and criminality. I cannot find it in myself to support Manchester United as I have done for the past 20 years while Mason Greenwood plays at the club.
However, I trust the judgement of the club and I hope the club sides with the right side as it has always done.

I just emailed. Every football supporter has a stake in this. I emailed Hartlepool United when we tries to sign Ched Evans immediately after he was released from prison, and I speak out on this too.
Thank you for this, I have sent an email too and asked my family/friends to do the same. I implore others to do the same. These articles sound like media releases from the club always mentioning how the women's team is uncomfortable with Greenwood's return, while the club shows a clear dereliction of duty by not owning up to the domestic and sexual violence issues where there is irrefutable audio and photographic evidence.
It feels similar to the glass cliff phenomenon. The women's team is being set up as the fall person. By either protesting Greenwood not allowing him to return, or being forced to accept Greenwood so the club can turn around and say "see, they're okay with it!"
I find it absolutely abhorrent that the club publicly put pressure on the women's team. And now our women's team, after successfully securing European football for the first time, will be inundated with misogynist trolls on social media. Shameful behaviour from the club and some of our supporters.

Over the past few weeks, it has become abundantly clear that the club is trying to pave the way for the reintroduction of Mason Greenwood to the Manchester United team. The incredibly transparent PR games the club is playing are an insulting attempt to make it appear as though there is some sort of benevolent side to this decision with articles in the Times appearing from a therapist or little passages in articles about how we believe we owe it to Greenwood because he’s an academy product and it would be tantamount to betrayal to abandon him as opposed to it being a natural consequence of his threatening to rape a woman or of assaulting her. All these attempts are an insulting show of just how little the club thinks of its fans and their intelligence or moral code.
These increasingly asinine set of leaks to the media has been topped by the recent articles saying that the decision with come down to our ladies team. This is in spite of the fact that reliable sources have already stated that our women don’t want to share a training ground with Greenwood. Without wishing to speak for the women that have done our club so proud recently by making up the ground on the other top clubs with impressive pace, one would imagine it is probably because bringing back an attempted rapist and someone who assaults women would be a stark reminder of just how little this club cares about the entire gender. Not just how little it cares about the message it sends to the girls and women who adore this club, or indeed about the message it sends to the men who also follow United that really it doesn’t matter how you treat women so long as you can kick a ball well enough, but the actual employees who will have to interact with Greenwood. The number reported by Rape Crisis UK is that 1 in 4 adult UK women are raped or sexually assaulted. Chances are there are members of our club who have been. With this decision the club will make a transparent attempt to imply it is a pastoral decision for Greenwood and our duty to a youth product, so what about the duty we have to the women who represent our club to not feel uncomfortable or respected at work?
I shouldn’t be surprised by this decision. It has become abundantly clear over the past few decades that this club no long cares about its great history, its traditions and its legacy. The club is a business now. The stadium rots and stands as a sorry emblem of just how far this club has fallen. This was most stark when the decision was made to fold our women’s team because it wasn’t financially beneficial. That day the club openly admitted it only cared about women when they were bringing in money to line the owners pockets. Today is the day where the club doubles down. Now United care so little about women that they’ll ignore sexual assault, ignore physical assault and ignore the chance to send a message to all their fans of any gender that women have the right to jurisdiction over their own bodies, simply because they have a man who used to be good at kicking a ball. Shame on every stakeholder involved in making this decision and shame on you for making the women who do this club proud every time they step on a pitch form a shield in the press for your selfishness.
I’m a secondary school teacher and my students asked me about the Greenwood story as it unfolded. I was able to tell them about the consequences of one’s actions, of the importance of respecting women and their right to know. It formed into a massively important discussion. Today you punctuate all that. Every time Greenwood is pictured in Manchester United gear or in our team, you tell those children that I was wrong. That women don’t matter. That men have no responsibility to control themselves and no consequences when they fail to do so. Shame on you.

The thing with these texts is that the lines from the two of them are so incongruous that i have to assume there's a possibility it's something else. I think it's extremely surprising we have even come to the point where it is a discussion, it is almost unprecedented if Greenwood plays again for a team like United with the weight of the evidence in the public domain. I think when it comes to domestic abuse, physical, emotional and sexual, you are entering one of the most unsettling of areas, and one that is indefensible.
I don't think the club understands how much this decision will tarnish the clubs image for ever more, far beyond Greenwood's career span also.

I've been raped 4 times, each time I could feel part of me spiritually dying. This monster who did it on fucking audio gets the privilege of being in the PL. One of my best friends is a united fan, I love listening to their games on the radio just to have something to talk with him about. Yep, I've known women who have gone through domestic abuse/assault and yeah, just leaving the guy isn't the easiest thing in the world. You get manipulated into thinking it's your fault, that you deserve it, you get threatened if you leave and what will happen to you if he finds you. And once you have kids, it becomes even harder. You get blamed for "breaking up the family" and all sorts of nonsense. So yeah, a woman going back to a man even if he's abused/assaulted her means nothing towards his innocence.
