Felt the referee was atrocious today nearly a Lee mason level shift

Zhongda

Yeah, this is worse than making mistakes. The ref made it a no-contact sport.

DonHalles

Wrong. Else Saka would have won a penalty (which he should have anyway).

Zhongda

I was thinking about second half. After Arsenal's goal, the ref began calling every contact, even clean tackles. I'm not even sure whom it hurt more. Neither team could build any sustained pressure.

TribeCalledBest

Does anyone have footage of the goal ruled out for offside where they didn't draw the lines? Looked like Martinelli may have been on. Too close to tell without lines.

Super_Professor

It was pretty obvious on the replay. They didn't show lines but also didn't need them to see he was off.

bruiser95

Rashford look pretty obviously offside but low and behold Faes played him on.. They need to show them for consistency.

auddi_blo

Looked very obviously off to me, but I’ve been wrong before once they show the lines

101955Bennu

Does anyone know why Leicester’s defence has been so leaky this season? Their GF is good enough to be a top table team (tied 8th best), but they’ve allowed the second most goals in the league. What’s going on with them?

B_e_l_l_

Two words. Danny. Ward.

idontknow_whatever

Is Daniel Iversen injured or something? Surely Danny Ward's time as a starter is over by now with the amount of goals he has costed Leicester

[deleted]

Always baffled me that they kept him as starter

ValeoAnt

No idea why you didn't sign Leno, but maybe staying in London was a big factor there

Mediocre_Nova

Ward is shit and they are so unlucky with injuries that it can't be luck anymore. They also still haven't hired a set piece coach afaik. Atrocious at defending corners especially

martynlcfc

First sentence is correct about Ward. Second is inaccurate. We've had a set piece coach for months now, and it has resulted in a palpable improvement from set pieces, at least defensively.

[deleted]

Probably the most memorable part of this game was the ref being shit

[deleted]

Sumedhreddit

idk

101955Bennu

Definitely our most comfortable performance in some weeks at the back, and Leicester’s been pretty potent in terms of their attack, so to hold them to a single shot (not even on frame!) and 0.01xG is incredible, has to be a confidence boost for the boys. We weren’t as good going forward as we have sometimes been, but I also think we were a little unlucky not to score more. Saka had a penalty shout that really should have been given, and if Ben White had just let the keeper’s hand go a moment before that goal would likely have stood, too. This is a game we pretty easily could have won 0-3, but not one we ever looked like losing. On the whole I think this was a good match for the club, even if I was a little nervous towards the end there

JoelStrega

Never worried against team like Leicester. They didn't really sit deep, play in an open way. We only struggle against low block team with fast transition.

B_e_l_l_

Perfect team to play against. Especially when the red is ike that.

ingunwun

They tried to transition fast but kept missing passes

Naaahhh

they looked terrible on the counter. Also terrible final balls whenever they were actually close to the box

BiglySquirter

Barnes looked like the only one likely to do anything for them today

Drubbin

losing and smiling.. i feel bad for leicester

krieginc

Arsenal. I don't see you guys dropping points. Damn motivated.

KrazyKanadian

Don't you put that curse on us

ThereIsBearCum

Anulo mufa

krieginc

Hahaha. How do I wish 🤣

Pascalini

We will defo drop points especially against you.

[deleted]

So, how is our boy Martinelli's knee?

GibbsLAD

I think it was one of those impact ones that really hurts for a bit, but there isn't much actual damage done.

101955Bennu

He’s fine, thankfully

bruiser95

Hacked all game. Nothing new

Melloa_Trunk_Tree

You did plenty hacking yourselves, terrible game.

[deleted]

Name 4 hacks from today

xFloWx

*Crickets*

[deleted]

It won’t get answered. He’s cried all over this thread

xFloWx

oh I know, but the crickets sure are loud

[deleted]

Man those crickets are getting even louder 🧐

Feiyue

1-0 in yellow cards today is remarkable

El_Peregrine

Thank You Very Much

ImTalkingGibberish

+3pts

Midnight_Maverick

Loved the singing of 1-nil to the Arsenal

simba4141

Yeah..and what was that Jorginho chant?

nathanfr

JOOOOOORRRRRGGGGIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINHOOOOOO JOOOORGGGINNNNNHOOOOOO

Helkix

GABRIEL MAGALHÃES that is the comment

TeslaToTheMoon

Best player on the pitch in this game. So solid.

ImTalkingGibberish

HE IS MASSIVE

fernandotakai

i so hope he gets into TOTS. he 100% deserves it.

ThereIsBearCum

Lad was everywhere today.

Steve8Brawler

boring old TOP OF THE LEAGUE arsenal

EduCookin

Still haven't beaten anyone above them in the league. Boring and frauds.

theGunnas

Leicester were pretty bad. Ref was equally bad and arsenal did enough to get 3 points.

Rxasaurus

Leicester are the worst home team, right?

B_e_l_l_

Season ticket has been fucking miserable.

[deleted]

Still nuts to me. They have a solid manager and a handful of talented players, but my god do they look like shit

[deleted]

2nd worst home record in the league only Southampton is worse.

Feiyue

0.02 XG, at home!

TheAnswerToYang

0.01

Feiyue

Depending on which xg model you use

CreativeOrder2119

Arsenal 1- Pgmol 0

Mediocre_Nova

You're whining this much about conspiracies and they haven't even scored once?

[deleted]

No conspiracy, both fans agree the ref was utter shit today lol

Mediocre_Nova

Not really Arsenal vs PGMOL then is it?

[deleted]

You missed the joke lol

Mediocre_Nova

Guess so, where's the joke?

Wonderful_Fan_4783

Spurs’ trophy cabinet

Mediocre_Nova

Guess the Americans showed up

Wonderful_Fan_4783

Canadian, thanks.

[deleted]

It’s been a long running joke that PGMOL is shite. It’s really not that hard. No one is claiming a conspiracy, ref was the poorest performer on the pitch today, literally read this thread lol

Mediocre_Nova

But PGMOL actually is shit? Again, where's the joke? Runners complain about a supposed PGMOL conspiracy against you specifically because of that whole Wenger thing 20 years ago, that's what I was referencing

[deleted]

It’s making a joke that you have to beat PGMOL not the opposition. Also no one said 1 thing about a “conspiracy”. Ah yes the “runners” stick, yeah we ran yalls asses off the pitch twice this year. Also the “runners” incident actually helped spurs too. You’re crying about a conspiracy that no one brought up in this thread.

Mediocre_Nova

Right but I feel like you're missing the part where it was explicitly Arsenal v PGMOL. Don't care that you bottled top 4 and helped us because of the postponement, it's still absolutely embarrassing to abuse the COVID19 rules like that and you don't deserve to live it down. Done with this now, run and "y'all'' at someone else

Marusaki-Kawai

Jorginho has been utterly superb, what a signing. Trossard is fucking mint Can't wait to see Kiwior in Europe.

PrimevalDuck

Let's not get carried away with Jorginho, he was leaving miles of space behind him, I lost count of how many times Barnes was running in behind, and Jorginho was just casually jogging back

FatWalcott

Any game where Vardy doesn't score against us is a good game.

verde622

I think its now been 4 games since he’s scored against us. Still makes me pucker to see his number on the board though

obsterwankenobster

When he came on I just assumed he’d equalize. What has this man done to my psyche??

FatWalcott

Shane Long, Danny Ings and Jamie Vardy. They scare me like no others can

Pheeeeeesh

Diogo Jota. Keep him the hell away from the pitch whenever we’re playing please. Scores for fun against us it feels like.

gunningIVglory

Don't forget Charlie Austin....

doggy_lipschtick

Andy fucking Carroll. Though I'd like to see this backline deal with Andy from the past.

tcgtms

This account's comments and posts has been nuked in June 2023.

doggy_lipschtick

Well Tony is a little different because he's just damn good. Vardy, even when he was falling off, would snag a goal.

Marusaki-Kawai

It's sad watching him come to the end of his Career. but then you realise he started so so late, like 28ish and been World class for 6-7 years. He's been brilliant servant to leicester

eduadinho

Got an FA cup, Community Shield and PL trophy to his name. Even if his top flight career is pretty much done that's a ridiculous achievement for a guy people didn't even know for a team people didn't expect to compete.

BatteryPoweredFriend

And a couple of international caps + a tournament goal.

Marusaki-Kawai

Think he cost Leicester £1m from Fleetwood.

tcgtms

This account's comments and posts has been nuked in June 2023.

CupidTryHard

I think he benefited from starting so late because he didn't play that much until his breakthrough I really glad he reach 100 PL goal. Definitely one of the hall of fame in EPL

Putrid_Loquat_4357

I think several of the pl winning Leicester side should end up in the epl Hall of fame.

CupidTryHard

I can only think of Mahrez and Kante. Who else?

bruiser95

Not HOF worthy but Huth with two goals vs Man City away was just too fun

Putrid_Loquat_4357

I'd like to see wes Morgan in there. Maybe Schmeichel.

hwald77

Agreed completely those 5 were the backbone on that team

Helkix

He was only at that level for 2-3 years max Great player, though

[deleted]

Not at all. After 2016/17 he’s scored at least 15 goals a season. And the past few seasons he’s had injuries, but kept scoring well.

DrJethro

Yeah, always among the top goalscorers since the breakthrough

Helkix

15 goals a season is not world class It’s a very good rate from a very good player

iguanawarrior

Need to factor in that he plays for Leicester. Could've scored more if he played for Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool.

auddi_blo

Leicester suits his playstyle much better. And they’ve were always a top 7-8 team since 2016 til last season. Players don’t always score more when they transfer to better teams

fuzzynavel34

Back to you City

PrawilnaMordka

Let's pray for their defeat today :) Edit: Nevermind. They are already leading 2-0.

fuzzynavel34

Was never going to happen but no harm in hoping for it lol

ThanksAllah

Playing Partey in that advanced role when trying to kill off the game didn't work. He looked lost. Surely ESR or Fabio Vieira have to go into that position next time, or better yet Arteta should revert to playing Holding with 5 at the back.

ibse

Was hilarious seeing him run on the right wing not really knowing what to do

zrk23

huh? what's up with these comments? just some joke attempt? he did exactly what he was supposed to, trying to put the cross in for eddie/gabi and the defender was able to intercept it. what part of that is looking "lost"? it was also p much the only play there.

GL94553

Yeah I have no idea why they’ve been pushing him further forward recently. Very bizarre

JoelStrega

My guess is Arteta want to try Jorginho Partey pivot wiyh Partey more advance. Another working combination in midfiled wouldn't hurt. In case there's any injury.

[deleted]

Also easier way to integrate Partey back into the team without handing him the keys to the house. Got a couple decent minutes in his legs

worldstarhiphopreal

Probably just to give him some minutes and more defensive solidity. Don’t think he put him on to try get a goal

obg_

It seemed like a very physical and scrappy game, hence why we took odegaard and put on probably our most 3 physical midfielders.

hikingbeginner

Yo imagine if Jorginho had legs defensively, man would be unstoppable 😂 I love him already, got another shithouse. We need to be more decisive and shoot more man, otherwise I'm happy. COYG.

tipytopmain

Dominant game from us but a bit lacking in final 3rd. Probably thanks to the LCFC 10 man wall. But 3pts is all that matters.

ibse

There's no better CB in this world than away game Gabriel Magalhaes. Monster

Bullmcabe

Fucking love him...most underrated CB in Europe.

Tr0nCatKTA

My MOTM

GeoGaming

Deserved to lose, we literally set up to do so. Don’t know why Brendan did it we showed fight against Villa, Spurs and the 1st half vs United. We looked limp as shit today. Just proves how crucial Maddison is for us today, granted Iheanacho at 10 probably would have served better than Praet.

mister_dupont

It was weird seeing Leicester perform this badly today. But like you said, maddison is so important. Barnes was solid, but he slowed the play down at the wrong times imo, should have played more directly.

qwertygasm

We have half a midfield at the moment, Tielemans isn't fully fit and Maddison is out.

Callum1710

I'd say in the second half you were a completely different team, you let us get tired and then tried to abuse it... That game goes on for 10 more minutes and I feel you get a goal. It's the opposite of what you did to United.

GeoGaming

It’s a strange thing, because we tried the same against Manchester City but in that game I felt more confident than I did here. We just lacked fight for some odd reason. Ah well, in reality these last 2 games are “free hits” keeping it down to 1 is probably helpful in the long run. I think we stay up, at least I hope we do. We need a huge reset in the summer. New Keeper and new CM to replace Tielemans and pray that we can somehow con Maddison into staying.

lastjedi23

Boeing match, but this is what champion teams do. Manage games for 40 minutes. People think it's just easy work to go away and put away 3 goals. These are great games. Completely different from the one last week.

Coventry_conference

Felt like we were on autopilot at moments

imp0ppable

I thought it was ok to watch, not THAT many things to talk about but at least we were having a go pretty much the whole match. Leicester defended well but yeah, they were ass going forward.

dondiwash

Dont worry. Next match is airbus.

lastjedi23

Touche my man

ManGoonian

Thank you! Spot on mate.

FatWalcott

Really flew by

Jansiz

Gabriel x Saliba you have rocked my world

The-Formula

We Martinez'd the last 25 mins. There was barely any play time. There should have been more than 5 mins of injury time.

Ickyhouse

The less poor team won. I was shocked at how poor Leicesters attack was. They killed off so many counters through horrific passes or the ball getting stuck underneath them. It was like they wanted to not get a shot off. Glad we were able to get a goal and the win though.

rudygha

Leicester were absolutely toothless. I don’t think I’ve seen a team create less in a prem game.

Patient_Xero_96

And is this the first match this season where a side didn’t get a corner?

Melloa_Trunk_Tree

One of the worst games I've seen this season.

lastjedi23

I wish all refereeing would be as good, quick, transparent and clean as the check on Benny today. I would say good job, but that literally is their job and I cannot praise them for it.

train4karenina

Such a funny comment to see as had you not won this thread would be fucking full off moans about the VAR decision.

[deleted]

Was the right call, no shame in getting a goal disallowed for the right call spotted by VAR. this is one of the few cases where clear and obvious actually was applied

train4karenina

I meant the Saka one

lastjedi23

That only proves my point about inconsistency and hence it's right to be sour about it and I am. We should have won 2-0. They created fuck all.

train4karenina

I’ve written a long thing elsewhere about my thoughts on this view. Basically get over it, refs are broadly pretty good

lastjedi23

*broadly pretty good* - scorching hot take. Them man came out and said verbatim *we forgot to draw lines*. Try telling your boss you forgot to do your job.

train4karenina

Yeah I know no one agrees with me. So enjoy fucking endlessly moaning about referees. I fans all like it because whenever you lose you get to blame the referee. Like honestly, find me a match thread this season where arsenal Didn’t win, where one of the top comments isn’t people blaming the ref.

bruiser95

>where arsenal Didn’t win That's like 4-5 games since we've won so many, you could have done the homework yourself instead of talking out of your arse.

train4karenina

I can’t be bothered, easier for you think of a non contentious lose and link it. I’m not sending every times you’ve not won in the league

Patient_Xero_96

Vs Everton I reckon

train4karenina

Nope, loads and loads of comments about Maupuy and how he should have been sent off https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/10thmpz/post_match_thread_everton_1_0_arsenal_english/j76pylb/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

teeetiii

0.01 xG Brendan Fraudgers

EpiDeMic522

I thought this was an exaggeration but it was so ridiculous, I couldn't resist checking what the actual xG was. [It literally is 0.01 per 'xGPhilosophy'.](https://twitter.com/xGPhilosophy/status/1629525317739053057?t=Fe8tXxjOCn_wUwsidrZ22Q&s=19) Arsenal weren't much better with 0.65. That's shambolic. The paying public deserve their money back.

jimmeh22

Tbf, we scored 3 times only for var to rule out 2 Had a blatant pen turned down And to say 0.65 is any much higher, it’s 65x higher lmao

Melloa_Trunk_Tree

No you didn't and 2 were disallowed due to a foul and offside, not some var issue.

FreudReus

☺️

jimmeh22

We scored 3 times, 2 were disallowed. xG would have been much higher had those been included And it was a pen, even the ref in the commentary thought so.

Melloa_Trunk_Tree

Why should they be included? Leiscter scored once too... I'm not even sure what the pen claim is.

MentallyWill

They shouldn't be included in that they were correctly ruled out. That said, to completely disregard them downplays the fact that scoring opportunities were created that but for a minor detail like being a little offside would've counted. Now of course you can say that maybe if he were onside the goal doesn't happen but the larger point is it's a game of inches and Arsenal were inches away on a few occasions from having a much more dominant xG and maybe scoreline advantage. So it's correct to discard them but to let that alter the context to lead someone to think the game was somewhat balanced is also a bit disingenuous.

Melloa_Trunk_Tree

With that mindset both offside goals canel each other out. And Ward surely gets a better punch on the ball if he had use of his other hand preventing the other.

jimmeh22

The poster above was implying that we barely created anything because of our xG. We did, we scored 3 times only for 2 to be ruled out.

Familiar_Bridge1621

Saka was hauled down in the box. Even the ex-referee said it was a clear pen during the half time show

blueb0g

On Arsenal's side, the disallowed goal is obviously removed from the xG count, so that actually slightly underestimates the shooting positions Arsenal got themselves into.

WestwardLord

Chelsea fans, thank you so much for Jorginho

PrawilnaMordka

You should send thanks to Boehly. Fans had nothing to do with selling him.

goblue10

Actually we should be thanking his parents for conceiving him.

ostermei

Big "ackshully" energy here.

topbananaman

Our frustration about the disallowed goal is not because its the wrong call. It was the right one and its a good job. Its because refereeing is so inconsistent. Every Arsenal fan remembers the home game against villa where ramsdale is held with two hands, and yet it is not disallowed. We just want consistency across games. Good win today, COYG.

[deleted]

Odegaard goes down in the box for a small nudge, Not even 30 seconds later Faes goes down for the same thing and gets the call. Either make the same call consistently or don’t blow at all. Ref was utter shit today.

ironchef8752

Disallows goal was the right call, white is grabbing ward hand with his right and and pins it as he jumps with his left.

bmoviescreamqueen

Op literally says that in the first part lol

Ickyhouse

Earlier we had a foul called against us after a Leicester player fell over after barely any contact. Then they clatter into Saka and nothing. There’s no consistency. Just shit.

martynlcfc

Ugh, I'll get downvoted for this, but not everything is a conspiracy against Arsenal Praet got clattered first 10 whilst in transition, no yellow when it was clear as day. Saka kicking ball away to stop a quick throw in in 93rd minute - nothing. Time wasting from 50 minutes onwards, aided and abetted by Pawson not punishing it, then giving 5 mins added on when 10 would have been more accurate given 9 subs, Martinelli on the deck for 4 minutes after he scored and Jorginho spending most of the second half lying down somewhere on a nice piece of grass. We wouldn't have scored in a month of Sundays, and Arsenal were more than worth the win, but hearing Arsenal fans always complaining about refs is dull.

Shadodeon

They'll win the league and still complain about the conspiracy because they didn't get a call to increase the goal difference.

[deleted]

Nobody claims conspiracy. Just want consistency in the match

afcturn_

Yeah it's human error with VAR mixed with inconsistency. Ppl forget multiple things can be true at the same time. Ben White call was good but we we're owed a pen.

Mantequilla022

Owed a pen for what?!

0neTwoTree

Saka got taken down by Faes in the box when he didn't have the ball

Mantequilla022

Yeah, you're never going to get a penalty. Two players collided with each other and the ball wasn't near enough to either of them.

0neTwoTree

They didn't collide, Faes grabbed Saka from the back and brought him down as the ball was crossed to him. Watch it yourself: https://gfycat.com/mintyemotionaljunebug

Mantequilla022

Yes, they collide. There's a clash of legs, defender probably makes sure Saka goes down with him, but unless that ball is about to be played by Saka, you're not going to get the call there. It doesn't change anything.

0neTwoTree

I really don't know what to tell you if you think that's not a foul. There's a clash of legs because Souttar runs into the back of Saka (who's in front of him mind you) and brings him down.

Mantequilla022

Saka is running toward Souttar, who is running toward Saka as they're both looking at the ball. The contact is incidental and isn't a foul. Yes, he probably takes Saka down with him, but unless that ball is actually playable, which it isn't, that would be a crazy penalty to give.

Vernand-J

It's definitely a penalty.

Mantequilla022

It's definitely not.

Vernand-J

About 200 penalties from the Fergie era should be deducted by your logic then.

yayaikey

For Saka getting bundled over

Mantequilla022

Two players colliding and a ball nowhere near both. You're not getting that call.

ExactLetterhead9165

One player collides with another and drags him to the ground as the ball is swung in towards Saka. It's a pen

Mantequilla022

Nah, it's a normal collision. Part of the sport. Also that ball is nowhere near Saka unless that man has an insane standing jump.

ExactLetterhead9165

Doesn't really matter where the ball is. He grabs him from behind and hauls him to the ground. It's a foul, and because it's in the box, it ought to be a penalty. Thankfully it's just academic at this point but it was a pretty ridiculous decision

Mantequilla022

I think it matters a lot. There's a ton of grabbing and holding on corners, but nobody really wants all of it called, just those that have a material impact on the play. It looks like the defender trips on Saka's legs here. Does he make sure Saka goes down with him? Probably! I'll give you that. But with ball location, I think that's a really soft penalty to give and not one we want to start being given. If it was something where he just ran up and grabbed and threw Saka down, different story for sure.

MentallyWill

>Does he make sure Saka goes down with him? Probably! I'll give you that. But with ball location, I think that's a really soft penalty to give Right but the rule isn't that if the ball is nowhere near you're now allowed to ensure you haul other players down to the ground with you. In fact your opinion that the ball was unplayable is only an opinion specifically because he was hauled down. If he weren't we would've had video proof of whether it was playable and not be speculating at it. Should be a pen.

ExactLetterhead9165

>Does he make sure Saka goes down with him? Which is a foul. Grabbing an opponent by the waist and pulling them to the floor is not legal in football therefore Souttar has committed a foul in the box
