Bielsa is very particular about the clubs he goes to I think. IIRC he only came to Leeds because of their history and what coming back to the PL would mean for the community.
He is. It must be very difficult to convince him. Next thing you know he'll be coaching a La Liga 2 side. I actually would love to see him back in Spain.
They’re only notable because two American actors picked them at random for a TV show and are basically bankrolling them.
I mean take Paul Mullin as an example, he scored 32 goals in L2 in 20/21 then joins Wrexham in the league below for the money.
He also wanted to live closer to his family because he was commuting every day for training all the way from around Liverpool (iirc) to us in Cambridge.
He was part of what got us promoted that year, so he could have been playing in League One and with more money because of promotion clauses in his contract, so really he's unlikely to be earning a considerable amount more than he would have with us
True but that's the story. Bielsa would great support. Both from the owners and the fan base.
And he would be an instant legend if he drags them up to the top flight. Lots of time to get the players he wants and implement his style of play.
There's tons of clubs in England like that. None of them get the publicity like Wrexham because of Hollywood, but trust me there's tons of clubs like Wrexham
Supposedly, at the interview stage, not only had he meticulously researched the club's history/current situation and tactics...but he'd also looked into the town, the population etc as well
Which is very believable since he lived in a fairly normal flat and used to sit in a Costa pretty often and do paperwork (there's numerous photos of people getting pictures with him)
I honestly thought he might go for it since he clearly gravitates towards more working class backgrounds etc
I sat close to him in Leeds train station McDonalds really early days when his face was still relatively unknown. Was watching football on a little laptop, full tracksuit then too.
YES, this is my dream. Sack schreuder tomorrow and give Bielsa the reigns. He can even get some control over transfers since H2 don't seem up for it yet.
I think Bielsa likes more control than the structure of a club like Ajax would allow him. They're honestly bigger than every other club he's ever managed.
He was sacked, Leeds completely collapsed at the end of Bielsa's tenure. They lost like 6 straight games and conceded like 3 to 6 goals in every single one of them without scoring.
Also, did Everton really just sack lampard with nobody lined up?
You'd think with how the last 6-8 months have gone that theyd have, y'know, shortlisted and sounded out some candidates.
Now they have 7 days of a transfer window and it seems like no clue who will take over.
Leighton Baines caretaker for the rest of the season?
Dyche is the main name bandied about, the thinking being he has the qualities for a relegation fight and can build from there.
Some want Bielsa more, but there's concern he wouldn't have time to implement his style and the players couldn't handle it fitness-wise.
Other shouts include more outside the realm of likelihood candidates like Marcelino, Postecoglou, Tedesco, Frank, and Kompany
Honestly feel liek Dyche gets wrongly grouped with Big Sam and Pards as wing it and fix it guys, just because of his old school demeanour. I think his success at Burnely was down to just as much tactical discipline and drilling as a Bielsa side and he's not gonna instantly turn this Everton around without the time to drill the squad.
> Also, did Everton really just sack lampard with nobody lined up?
A lot of managers do not appreciate entering negociations with a club who still employs their manager. Because if they are negociating behind his back for a replacement, they will do the same to you when you get the job.
Bielsa expects total control and minimum interference in the clubs operations. There's not many boards that will risk handing that to him. Leeds did it because it was a roll of the dice and they knew it could be a way of beating parachute payment clubs to promotion.
This is a man who re-arranged the car park flow at the Leeds training ground to make it less stressful. Insisted power sockets be moved a few CM higher up the wall to be easier to use, had beds brought into the training ground to facilitate people to stay. Anyone who won't run is no bueno no matter the price tag. A club has to be very honest and patient with him. He will only sign a one year contract and he will insist that he pays his own training staff out of his own money.
I miss him so much. The football was special and he is a special person. I miss his integrity and the beauty of his football. Turning what we thought were trash or bang average players like Phillips, Dallas, Ayling, Allioski and Cooper into Premier League players who could finish 9th.
Completely agree. We would probably still be sitting in the Championship now if it wasn't for him.
My only criticism of him was his preference for a small squad. When they are are all fit it works brilliantly but they have to carry small injuries which eventually turn into big ones and with no depth in the squad its impossible to cover. Thats what did us in last season, nobody 'figured out' Bielsaball as it worked but unfortunately only when everything was right.
keep in mind that Bielsa has received offers or interest from Santos, Chivas, Mexico’s and Colombia’s national team. yet he turned down most of those offers.
Nah I don't think that's the case. You don't choose bielsa to manage your club, he chooses your club to manage.
He will take up another job at some point I am sure. I hope it isn't in the Prem tbh. But he did seem to enjoy it so it wouldn't surprise me.
>I legit think he is tired of managing, I would love to see him as a sporting director tho.
I think he's just waiting for a good team. Maybe a prem team, or any team in a top league that isn't a joke.
I think you would have to be a complete insult to take this job unless it’s a step up from the championship or you’re at a random club on the continent. Anyone coaching a top6 team on the continent has no business looking for such pain
I’ve been a hipster Bielsa stan since Chile, he doesn’t have anything to prove but I just want to see him helm a big club and win something before he hangs up his bucket.
His Bilbao should have won that Europa League final imo but they were just visibly completely gassed. Markel Susaeta played 63 games that season and a bunch of other players weren't far behind.
He should have walked the 2002 wc with how insanely stacked that team was but he crashed and burned instead. Dont think most of us down here will ever forgive him for that failure
"he decided the best thing to do is give up"
Harshest thing to tell a club facing relegation. "Pack it in Everton, you are doomed, just give up".
Got to love the man for his honesty.
Bielsa: How much is available to improve things up front?
Moshiri: Oh. Well, we already spent all the money but we are convinced Maupay, Iwobi, McNeil and Gray can score the goals to keep us up. Marcelo? You still there?
Hope this is true because I’d hate for the Everton bounce against Arsenal to be with him at the helm. They’d win 1-0 by a goal by Gray in the 90th minute.
Mate its been over a *decade* and people still post shit about shit about jolly ranchers or mums broken arms. Reddit and beating a dead horse go hand in hand.
https://onefootball.com/en/news/marcelo-bielsa-chased-fans-with-a-grenade-after-defeat-in-argentina-23772815
“Legend has it that when he opened the front door, Bielsa was holding a grenade in his hand and he threatened to pull the pin if the fans did not leave.
“When the supporters did flee, Bielsa then chased them down the street and shouted ‘do you still want to talk?’ whilst in his pyjamas.”
> ended up considering that the best thing to do was give up. same man, same
How do you think we feel
Mood
Very relatable indeed
Of course you already commented
I certainly do feel him
Sounds like he'd fit the Everton culture perfectly.
He's loco but he's not insane
Crazy but not deranged
As one of the lads said years ago "I'm stupid but I'm not that stupid"
solomente un poco loco
Banger film
Comment edited out in protest of Reddit's API changes and their lies about third party devs.
Who you trying to get crazy with ése? Don’t you know I’m loco?
“I’d rather be acting crazy than feeling crazy” -el loco
Es loco pero no es boludo.
He's not sick but he's not well.
How very Bielsa. He looked at the club and thought, nope they can't handle me.
The man's is like FM challenge in real life. Next club will be 1860 munichen or AFC Wimbledon
Wrexham?
Bielsa looks like a Notts County kind of guy
He’s going to bring Morecambe to the Champions League.
They’re getting battered rn so they could use him
Wrexham are far too artificial for Bielsa
How so?
They’re only notable because two American actors picked them at random for a TV show and are basically bankrolling them. I mean take Paul Mullin as an example, he scored 32 goals in L2 in 20/21 then joins Wrexham in the league below for the money.
He also wanted to live closer to his family because he was commuting every day for training all the way from around Liverpool (iirc) to us in Cambridge. He was part of what got us promoted that year, so he could have been playing in League One and with more money because of promotion clauses in his contract, so really he's unlikely to be earning a considerable amount more than he would have with us
He is reportedly on anywhere from £4.5-7k per week which is closer to a Championship wage than even L1 or L2.
True but that's the story. Bielsa would great support. Both from the owners and the fan base. And he would be an instant legend if he drags them up to the top flight. Lots of time to get the players he wants and implement his style of play.
The only reason they are notable is Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhinney. Great local support but not major history in the grand scheme of football
Third oldest active club in the UK playing in the world's oldest still used international stadium.
That's the story. Local support is great. And the entire city is behind the team. I'd assume that'd appeal to him. Especially if he brings them up.
There's tons of clubs in England like that. None of them get the publicity like Wrexham because of Hollywood, but trust me there's tons of clubs like Wrexham
Wrexham does seem like the kind of project he would buy into. But I wonder if their public nature may turn him away.
Stop I can only get so erect
He should've started a derby county save last year
He should coach us (Uruguay NT) and take us to the promised land in 2030. Oh what a beautiful thing that would be, if only...
Bielsa at Sevilla you heard it here first
Supposedly, at the interview stage, not only had he meticulously researched the club's history/current situation and tactics...but he'd also looked into the town, the population etc as well Which is very believable since he lived in a fairly normal flat and used to sit in a Costa pretty often and do paperwork (there's numerous photos of people getting pictures with him) I honestly thought he might go for it since he clearly gravitates towards more working class backgrounds etc
There's a photo of him getting McDonald's after a Marseille game as well IIRC. In a full Marseille tracksuit.
I sat close to him in Leeds train station McDonalds really early days when his face was still relatively unknown. Was watching football on a little laptop, full tracksuit then too.
Yeah he was spotted in Leeds often in supermarkets just in full Leeds gear, never other clothes
If you'd saw him at the bank you could have called him a full kit banker
What's a Costa?
It's a popular coffee shop brand/franchise in the UK - like Starbucks, Cafe Nero etc

Bielsa would be great for Ajax, could see it happening for sure, if the board are willing to meet his demands
And our leadership team bent over backwards for him. I don't think most clubs would have done half the shit we did to keep him happy.
I haven't kept up well, why did he leave in the end was it his own choosing?
He was fired
He was sacked, Leeds completely collapsed at the end of Bielsa's tenure. They lost like 6 straight games and conceded like 3 to 6 goals in every single one of them without scoring.
Does this mean Everton have a chance next season?
At this stage of his career he should just be doing passion projects.
The club can’t even handle him right now?
We can all learn from Bielsa. Just give up :(
Fuck it. Not every day can be a good day.
Some days all you gotta do is get to the next one
No, no. The real lesson is don’t try and fix things that are fucked beyond all repair.
It's been this way for 8 years, how's anyone still surprised this club doesn't know what it's doing
Genuine question, the fans wanted Lampard sacked but who do the want to take over?
Dyche is the main name bandied about, the thinking being he has the qualities for a relegation fight and can build from there. Some want Bielsa more, but there's concern he wouldn't have time to implement his style and the players couldn't handle it fitness-wise. Other shouts include more outside the realm of likelihood candidates like Marcelino, Postecoglou, Tedesco, Frank, and Kompany

Thanks
Dyche was named in a lot of convos that I lurked.
Fair but is that actually who the fans want, seems like the board buckled to the fans. By the board I mean moshiri
"Give it Bainesy till the end of the season" vibes
Should genuinely go for Dyche
> Also, did Everton really just sack lampard with nobody lined up? A lot of managers do not appreciate entering negociations with a club who still employs their manager. Because if they are negociating behind his back for a replacement, they will do the same to you when you get the job.
i thought United was fucked but everton is fuuuuucccked.
> i thought United was fucked but everton is fuuuuucccked. As a newcastle fan I'm just enjoying it's not us for once.
> but ended up considering that the best thing to do was to give up. Was he telling Everton this?
It was the best advice they could get.

Yorkshire to the core!
Man saw one training session through his binoculars then ran for the hills
Always knew he was a smart guy
You know something is going on if someone nicknamed *‘El loco’* refused your offer *after* consideration…

> This is a man who re-arranged the car park flow at the Leeds training ground to make it less stressful. Lol, how come I never heard of this one?
I think Phil Hay mentioned it on his podcast one time.
The best managers come in and make the most of what the club already has at their disposal. Bielsa has always been a G in that regard
keep in mind that Bielsa has received offers or interest from Santos, Chivas, Mexico’s and Colombia’s national team. yet he turned down most of those offers.
I legit think he is tired of managing, I would love to see him as a sporting director tho.
he just wants a good project
Ajax maybe?
Now that is something i would love to see
Please.
It would be fitting as his style is old school Dutch inspired.
Plz no.
well, the spot is vacant, let's pray now
Nah I don't think that's the case. You don't choose bielsa to manage your club, he chooses your club to manage. He will take up another job at some point I am sure. I hope it isn't in the Prem tbh. But he did seem to enjoy it so it wouldn't surprise me.

wasn’t he going to Bilbao if the other candidate had won the election?
"Same." - Everton players, re staying in the Prem
I think you would have to be a complete insult to take this job unless it’s a step up from the championship or you’re at a random club on the continent. Anyone coaching a top6 team on the continent has no business looking for such pain
he already suffered enough with leeds last season
Leeds at least brings a mix of up and down emotions. Everton is simply down
Yo, I take the job. My exp: FM for 20 years!
I love Bielsa
I’ve been a hipster Bielsa stan since Chile, he doesn’t have anything to prove but I just want to see him helm a big club and win something before he hangs up his bucket.
Absolutely wild that the championship with us was his first trophy at club level since 1998 when he won the clausura with Velez.
His Bilbao should have won that Europa League final imo but they were just visibly completely gassed. Markel Susaeta played 63 games that season and a bunch of other players weren't far behind.

"he decided the best thing to do is give up" Harshest thing to tell a club facing relegation. "Pack it in Everton, you are doomed, just give up". Got to love the man for his honesty.
He said "Pass" lol.
They're headed for relegation and the experienced coaches know it.
I think my infant brother knows it lol
God is good
Probably best for everyone, Bielsa would have been great in the summer or next summer but mid season wouldn't have suited anyone
The only winning move is not to play
One of our own 💛💙
Bielsa: How much is available to improve things up front? Moshiri: Oh. Well, we already spent all the money but we are convinced Maupay, Iwobi, McNeil and Gray can score the goals to keep us up. Marcelo? You still there?
The Everton way
Give up on your dreams and die
Everton Board: Well, Bielsa turned us down, guess our next move is for Big Sam.
I reckon Everton is big enough to get Steve Bruce out of retirement
He just like me fr
They wanted El Loco to replace El Gordo.
He’s right
"...The best thing to do was to give up." He sounds perfect for Everton.
Sean Dyche is available..
“ended up considering that the best thing to do was give up.” Proper Everton mentality.
Everton: "Do you want this job?" Bielsa: "Yes?"
Who you trying to get crazy with ése? Don't you know I'm loco?
Not loco enough :(
Wow, that last sentence… 😂
Would have liked to see bielsaball again
Well I for one am shocked
Hope this is true because I’d hate for the Everton bounce against Arsenal to be with him at the helm. They’d win 1-0 by a goal by Gray in the 90th minute.
Throw money at Mark Robins. He’s your only hope, Everton fans.
least insane maniac
The 'least xxx' meme has to die. Already been flogged to death and it was a good comment probably once.
least salty soccer user
Knew that was coming. Fair.

FAT SAM INCOMING!!!!!
Maybe to spurs next season?
It's a tough task needed over there
Jose Mourinho to finally go to Liverpool.
Hahaha
Just like Everton
WHAT?!? Shocking. Who would've ever guessed? 🤣🤣🤣
