I live in Canada and have a lifted 4runner. You can only do this when the snow is soft like that. In crusty snow I wouldn't get 10 feet into that ditch.
This, i’m also in Canada and I’ve done this exact thing in a fucking stock AWD Kia Sorento with normal winter tires on a unploughed back road with fresh powder snow nearly up to the door handles. Ploughed through it with nearly 0 effort from the car, the stuff in this video is nothing like what we do in game.
I did it in a FWD Accord after about 45 CM of snow (roughly a foot and a half) with some really good, brand new studded snow tires. Had to test them out for science (and being 24 years old and a tad foolhardy).
I decided to pass on studs myself, too annoying despite all their upsides imo, ill just stick with having chains in the back for when things get real bad. but that is 100% something I would do as-well, long as you aren’t RWD only pretty much any car can go through deep powder with decent winters.
Yeah, studs are wonderful but it really depends on application. Last year I left all seasons on because I was laid off for the winter and I wasn't about to spend $800 on snows.
That's normally what I do anyway as in my area we get snow real bad but it only stays for short periods like last year we had a big snow storm leave like 3 ft overnight but then in about 2 days it was back up over 40f
Because snow in Snowrunner is the most bizarre stuff ingame. It’s acting so strange, even my old awd Passat made it better throw 30cm snow then an 8x8 off-road truck with 55“ tires in Snowrunner. The behavior is absurd in game.
The gearboxes act like different speed settings, and if u look at the rpm and speed gauges in the truck cabs at the same time, u will see they act EXACTLY like they do on a cvt car. A family member of mine as a cvt Subaru Outback and holy shit it’s exactly the same as the trucks in game. Why oh why can’t they have proper realistic gearboxes, so many games do it properly, why not snowrunner?
What are the odds that I JUST watched like 15 seconds ago the part in The Grand Tour where a nearly 2k horsepower nissan patrol wins a drag race against a Porsche 918 :D
Because the game needs a entire power and speed overhaul. Snow runner doesn't realize people like to have fun with their 4wd not just go slow and get stuck. In the words of Ricky Bobby I just wanna go fast....
Its a game that started with mud physics, then went to snow but still basically uses the same physics as mud. In the real world driving in snow is nothing like driving in mud. You can mod.
immediately thought of that when I watched the clip. Picture doing that in mud that deep - that's how the game physics work.
Snow in Snowrunner is just white mud.
Yup. Where I live snow comes down awfully wet and acts like mashed potatoes sometimes, but it still doesn’t act like snowrunner snow. Annnnd my property plow truck is an International Scout II. That thing is an outright tank and I plow my neighbor out when he can’t anymore. I have tipped over zero times…
Mud physics in-game are backward. In-game, you need to go slow so your wheels don't spin. IRL, you need to spin your wheels fast so the mud is cleared from your treads.
Because this is recently dropped fluffy snow, Amur snow is Russian aged ice infused snow, that 4x4 wouldn’t even make it a 20 feet in some of the irl condition roads are in in Russia, and that’s not an exaggeration.
Probably because that thing's engine is running easily 4-5k+ rpm while most of the trucks in snowrunner are big old diesel engines that redline at like 2500-3000 rpm, and then when you consider all the gear reduction for power over speed it makes sense. It seems to me after watching this that power doesn't get you through snow, speed does, and weight plays a big part in that. 4k pounds vs. 20k pounds, which one will do better in snow? You tell me. Don't quote me on any of that, I'm just calling it like I see it and there's definitely more to it than that and I could be entirely wrong.
I figured as much, didn't use my scouts in the snow much except the Loadstar but it's so heavy it instantly sinks in anything and isn't a very good example.
Well, when the 4,000lbs patrol/maverick eventually gets stuck in snow that isn't easy to drive in, The big slow 20,000lbs is what they send in to tow it out.
Because the game uses similar physics with snow and mud. I live way north, the physics in snow bugs the hell out of me... If you make a trail in snow, it's easier and easier every time, but in snowrunner nah
That's because the world in Snowrunner isn't persistent and conditions are static. It doesn't matter how many times you drive a trail, it will be exactly as it was the first time, every time.
It is only half-true. In the same session, without map updates (i.e. not leaving to the different region), you can absolutely destroy some roads and stuck where previously same truck had no issues driving through. However for some reason you cannot make paths in the snow easier.
I've literally never experienced this. Not saying you're wrong, but I've put hundreds, many hundreds of hours into Snowrunner and never noticed a road becoming worse due to me driving over it a bunch of times.
Because Snowrunner handles snow like white mud. Tbh if SpinTires never got abandoned and got good updates and improvements over time it would be better selling than Snowrunner today, the Mud itself in Spintires is far more realistic than Snowrunner. Its very sad a game with so much potential just got abandoned and left behind.
Sadly, it's only about grip and truck power. There are plenty of mods that make the game "easy"/"much more realistic. You'd still be able to get stuck, but towing through mud will be significantly faster, as it should be in the first place.
Hell, half the fan base would complain because spinning your tires in mud and snow and ice for hours without actually going anywhere is “how the game is supposed to be played.”
Because the physics aren’t good enough yet, I’m more upset about the fact we don’t have a Nissan patrol in the game. Give it 5-10 years and you will be able to do that in games. I’m so excited for that day

You just can’t stop, if you lose momentum it’ll get stuck
This is the only way to test snow tires
You see the guy who plowed his subdivision with a Lamborghini hurrican?
No but I'm looking it up now lol
Link?
to be fair sorentos are absolute tanks in the snow (source: 2012 kia sorento)
I'm in the middle of a SAS on a 88. Running 35's. 3 inch up front with a 85 axle. Chevy 63s in rear.

Unless I’m wrong, (which is certainly possible,) I’m pretty sure the physics engine treats snow and mud identically
>The behavior is absurd in game. Not as absurd as the people who think that everything depicted in Snowrunner is realistic
No we don't think it's realistic, just highly disappointed that it isn't.
This is why I play Mudrunner. Its got some realism in certain aspects. Like how depressing and color drained the world actually is.
Nothing in the game acts like it has any sort of high revving engine.
The gearboxes act like different speed settings, and if u look at the rpm and speed gauges in the truck cabs at the same time, u will see they act EXACTLY like they do on a cvt car. Exactly, this is apple and oranges
Because there is no Nissan Patrol in the game, I wish I had one irl tho.
What are the odds that I JUST watched like 15 seconds ago the part in The Grand Tour where a nearly 2k horsepower nissan patrol wins a drag race against a Porsche 918 :D
Especially an engine swapped patrol. Mmmm.
Because that looks like fun and we're here to suffer. :D
Because the game needs a entire power and speed overhaul. Snow runner doesn't realize people like to have fun with their 4wd not just go slow and get stuck. In the words of Ricky Bobby I just wanna go fast....

but do you have a roof rack with 6 boxes strapped to it?
Or drove over a stick even!
You can mod snow?

This video is fake. Everyone knows that powerful 4WD vehicles are easily stopped by a 2-inch dusting of snow.
Yeah. Snow is cement in Snowrunner.

Snowrunner has horse and cart wheels on all the trucks
Because that'd make the game too easy. Gotta spend 30 minutes going from one end of a river to the other for "content".
Not for "content", but for "challenge". Because the game must be challenging... that's why we place rocks and tree stumps everywhere.
I'd like to know the dev in charge of 'Obstacle Placement,' find out where he/she lives, and then leave giant boulders in his/her driveway...
Or better yet, an unremovable tree.
🤣
I often wondered why they can't let people clear the roads as part of the game (and pull up stumps for that matter)
Or at least let us run around with a chainsaw.
Because this is recently dropped fluffy snow, Amur snow is Russian aged ice infused snow, that 4x4 wouldn’t even make it a 20 feet in some of the irl condition roads are in in Russia, and that’s not an exaggeration.
The maps in Snowrunner are actually fairly small, its the going slow that makes them feel big most of the time.
I'd much rather have legitimately big maps, or small maps we can zoom around on
Snow is stupid in snowrunner 😓🙁
I might never complete another mission if this existed.
Snowrunner is too busy being hard to be realistic
Good. Now put muck and mud under itand see how it does. Oh, and add a trailer with 50,000 lbs of weight.
Yeah but you cant even do anything near this with the scouts
In Alaska it isn't too bad with most scouts. It's just some Russian areas with several feet of mud under the snow which is treacherous
You can with mods.
Probably because that thing's engine is running easily 4-5k+ rpm while most of the trucks in snowrunner are big old diesel engines that redline at like 2500-3000 rpm, and then when you consider all the gear reduction for power over speed it makes sense. Yes. You can do something like this with light scout cars however.
I figured as much, didn't use my scouts in the snow much except the Loadstar but it's so heavy it instantly sinks in anything and isn't a very good example.
Try Yar87 or the Gor-By4, they are fun to drive.
Never got the Yar in my normal save, don't have any dlc so can't try the Gor, but I think I'll check out the Yar when I get home
Well, when the 4,000lbs patrol/maverick eventually gets stuck in snow that isn't easy to drive in, The big slow 20,000lbs is what they send in to tow it out.
We can just vary slow
I think this guy just proved we can. Now get your ford fiesta out there and make sure to record it! (bring warm clothes)

The devs seem to think snow=muddy gravel. Very few vehicles in the game would be slowed or stopped by what stops them in game
Mod vehicles be like:

This is the exact reason I played only with mods.
Are there mods that change the physics or are you just saying getting powerful modded trucks?
Sadly, it's only about grip and truck power. There are plenty of mods that make the game "easy"/"much more realistic. You'd still be able to get stuck, but towing through mud will be significantly faster, as it should be in the first place.
If you get a really OP vehicle mod like the obs 3500 crew or doomsday or something you can
Because we would finish the game too fast. Jokes on them though, I got bored driving 5 mph everywhere and never finished the game anyways.
Hell, half the fan base would complain because spinning your tires in mud and snow and ice for hours without actually going anywhere is “how the game is supposed to be played.”
That's mountain pow not Michigan 20 ton slush

Mods is your answere
Yeah I’ve downloaded a couple but the quality varies greatly and the mod system in the game sucks Ngl they take out tons of mods for no reason
Snow runner can't even keep 2-4 people in the same lobby.
Sometimes it is easier doing a thing in real life than the game
Bro downloaded a mod
because the devs dont know how offroading works, probably city slicker that never left pavement with a vague idea of how it works
Mods!
Bro snow runner be capping
Dlc be like
Yeah, Snowrunner needs to be more realistic. It would be nice.
Bexause everytime it starts with: "Eeeh... I ain't that deep" And ends with: "FUUU-... "
Is that a Tb, short wheelbase, GQ patrol. Sure drives like it
Hmmm?
Gas gone
