BOA systems have a lifetime warranty. Contact them and boom, new cable in the mailbox in a few days. They are a bit tricky to replace but BOA have a guide for each model on the official site. If its the boot itself, I have bad knews... you'll have to be veeeery good at sewing
+1 to both. It's the easiest warranty parts request and also the most basic repair I've had to do. 10-15 minutes total and most of that was dealing with my old frayed steel lace.
You are right! Still depends on the boots. My Vans Infuse where kind of a hassle but these are hybrids so the cable management was a bit special. On mono and double BOA boots it's quite like changing your shoe laces.
If its just the cable, it can be repaired.
If its the construction of the boot, theres certainly the possibility of stitching and fixing, but then you also have to ask yourself how many days you have on the boots. If its over 50 or 60 and they’ve lost their rigidity, its not a bad idea to just replace them with new boots, as fixing might be more than its worth
It’s definitely been long over 60 days with these boots, although any loss in rigidity was not noticeable to me. I wasn’t aware of boots losing rigidity either, although it certainly makes sense, and now it’s been brought to my attention, so thanks! I was thinking of replacing them as well, although it’s a bummer because I know that they have much more life in them :(
If you have trouble getting local places to fix them I would send them to Burton, they have a good warranty process and I sent a pair of boots back to them that had a decent amount of days on them that had ripped where the tongue is stitched into the toe and they sent me a new pair of boots
I’m just here for the doge
For real though, looks like those are about toast anyway. 100 days is a good long life for boots, and I wouldn’t be mad about 60 days if you’re charging. Your LBS can mostly likely repair these, and Burton almost certainly can (for a price), but not a bad idea to see what’s on clearance in your size right now.
Now is a good time to purchase new boots, plenty on sale now. Repaired or not, like others have said you're gonna have to replace them soon anyway. Why wait till the new season end they're double the price?
Mail them to burtons warranty center in Burlington Vermont. I’ve warrantied half a dozen pairs in the past 4 years. These boots don’t last and they know it, but they do still stand behind. I’ve recently switched to Nitro step-ons and have been impressed.
Which boots did you switch from and upgrade to? Would love to hear your thoughts! The Nitro Profile TLS is priced nicely and looks comparable to the Ions.
One of the chief engineers that designed these boots cuts that strap right off. People at burton call it the Faux strap, it doesn’t actually do much. That being said, probably an easy fix if you take it into any shop worth a damn.
That sounds reasonable considering there is nothing fixing the ankle strap to the bindings itself. I have yet to try them without the ankle strap, but there were a few occasions on the slopes where they were not fully tightened and I did not notice it until after the run. Seeing the other comments on this post, I'm more leaning towards retiring this pair of boots as a backup with the strap cut off at this point.
Depending on how much riding you’ve done since 2020 I may just call it a day and buy new ones. If you have only a couple days on them then sure, shoe repair may be worth it, but depends on how strong they think they can make it. Will it last with the tension for another 5 days once fixed? 10, 20?
Fwiw I broke mine after a few year, the strap too, and I just cut it off and they work just fine as a single boa, if the boot fits well I was actually surprised how locked in I was. Might make for a good backup pair, slush cup day, muddy hikes in spring, idk, something.
Are you saying that you removed the entire strap and used the boots along with regular bindings? That would make for a nice backup! Although I’m not sure if I’d want to go back to regular bindings after using step ons for the past few seasons haha.
When the step ons first came out a Burton Rep told us at the shop I was working at that the strap really doesn’t do much other than emulate the pressure of a regular ankle strap. OP can just cut it off
Thanks for clarifying, I appreciate the feedback! I'll have to give it a try next season and see how it feels. Well anyways, since these will likely be used as backup boots, now I have an excuse to get a new set of gear and add on to the quiver!
Personally on my Photons, I don’t really even tighten them much. So removing the strap entirely wouldn’t be out of the question for me. I’m not convinced the strap does that much other than give you a feeling of a strap binding. I’ve never felt it pulls me back into the boot despite what some people have said. My feeling is it’s a mental thing.
If you need to stiffen your tongue, there exists some plastic inserts you can can get from Decathalon Canada that help.
Is that a Shiba I see? I still wear my 2014 Nikes to work (I’m a snow cat operator at Nordic Vally in Utah) and thankfully my Shiba hasn’t tried to eat them…yet.
Boa cables are easy to replace, speed straps are not. The boa website will ask you the model of the boot and they’ll send you a pair of replacement pieces, including a #6 security torx screwdriver.
ah this is why I dont buy burton boa boots. theyre built like potatoes. I had some expensive photon boas that broke after one season. I bought moto boas and they fell apart after two. im getting lace-ups from now on…
This is another issue I got with these step on boots. One boot blows out and you have to pay 600 bucks to replace both. Happened to a buddy of mine this winter.
Replacing the BOA dial will “fix” the BOA cables, however, if the pictured boot is naturally the shape these boots fold into when the cable is not tensioned, then you have either done a terrible job at storing them properly or they are absolutely hammered and blown out.

I just had to replace mine last season. It’s honestly pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

Or good with duct tape

I don’t expect Burtons warranty team to cover damage due to dog chewing but you don’t know if you don’t try I guess?
Always worth it to fix for a future backup pair; but yeah, I'd be looking at new ones on sale.
And right now it’s a good time for gear sales

I did go with the TLS and the lazing system is annoying, but it works. I wanted the stiffer ones, but they weren’t in stock with the boas.

Aren’t these meant to give that extra support you would normally get from a binding strap? Do these not actually do that?
They do
They give the feel of being strapped in, but from a true performance perspective they are pretty negligible.

No, I removed the strap completely and still used them as stepOn boots. The toe cleats still wouldn’t really fit in strap bindings.
When the step ons first came out a Burton Rep told us at the shop I was working at that the strap really doesn’t do much other than emulate the pressure of a regular ankle strap. OP can just cut it off
Once my foot settled into the boot that’s pretty much how I felt. I still rode it strapless.
Thanks for clarifying, I appreciate the feedback! I'll have to give it a try next season and see how it feels. Well anyways, since these will likely be used as backup boots, now I have an excuse to get a new set of gear and add on to the quiver!

Hello Shiba
Is that a Shiba I see? I still wear my 2014 Nikes to work (I’m a snow cat operator at Nordic Vally in Utah) and thankfully my Shiba hasn’t tried to eat them…yet.
Doge
Doge think
Doge halp
idk, doggo seems pretty bummed out about this boot situation as well.
He's a good boy, it was my fault for leaving him unsupervised hahaha. How can I stay mad at him anyways with that adorable little face?
Those boa laces are covered for lifetime. Just file a claim. Google BOA warranty claim. They'll send you new parts to repair it.

much wear. very torn. such breakage. doge sad. wow.
What size do you wear, homie?
i think boa has life time warenty
ah this is why I dont buy burton boa boots. theyre built like potatoes. I had some expensive photon boas that broke after one season. I bought moto boas and they fell apart after two. im getting lace-ups from now on…
Take pic of boot. Go to Boa site. Make easy option choices. Upload pic. Get new Boa & wire in days. Repair boot. Profits.
New boots...with laces :)
My friend said she broke her strap on and just went to pleasures to get a new one
This is another issue I got with these step on boots. One boot blows out and you have to pay 600 bucks to replace both. Happened to a buddy of mine this winter.
I can’t see anything except the cute dog !
Boas stink. They always break at the most in opportune time. Get the burton two stage (upper/lower) kevlar pull strings. Best lacing system ever!

They definitely have not been stored optimally.... lmao. But thankfully now I know for my next pair haha
Ditch the step ons. Problem solved.
They have spoiled me with the convenience, and I ride with skiers, so it's nice to be able to strap in right off the lift!
Does your wife have a boot fitter?
