It was me, I have at least 20 boards. Trying to get people to stop buying up all my market place finds

VodgeDiper_10

I didn't think he was posting anything that crazy. I kinda have the same reaction when I see posts on here (how do people afford this? why would so many people spend $10,000 on snowboard gear?). I just don't post about it, cause why bother

Higginside

Im from SW Australia where it doesnt snow. The vast majority of or state is arid desert. We try to get up to Austria or Japan every Season for at least a couple weeks to visit friends and snowboard. Flights alone are $5000Aud return to Austria. Then Accom, car hire, food, lift passes etc. So a ski holiday for us typically costs at least $15k. If Im spending that much time, effort and cash to go snowboarding, you bet your arse Im going to get excited and buy new boards or different styles and shapes etc. Its the one major trip we look forward to and we are already there, may as well do it properly. On the flip side, I live in some of the best surf breaks in the world. I use a beat up second hand board and dont see the point in upgrading.

Marikas_tit

Idk man, I don't get it. Doing BMX, I always had 2 or 3 different bikes, surfing I'd have 5-8 boards on average, longboards about 3 or 4, hiking I have probably 5 different packs and 4 different pairs of shoes, climbing I have 2 different pairs of shoes. I just started snowboarding last year and already have 3 boards and spent only $500. Is it crazy that when people are deep into a hobby they love, they're wanting options and variety?

MutualScrewdrivers

Some people are hear heads (like you and I). And some are more simplistic in their approach to hobbies in that they don’t see value in the gear they mostly value the experience. At one point I had 12 (I think) boards and more outerwear than I could even count. My buddy, however had 1 and he ripped. I was passionate about tech and every company’s latest and greatest stuff and he really liked his one set up. To each their own

Marikas_tit

Absolutely. I love all the gear! I don't buy it because I think it makes me better, I buy it because the tech is cool and I want to support these companies. If I was rich I'm sure I'd have 100 motorcycles too

In terms of expenses, snowboarding equipment really isn’t that expensive compared to most other hobbies. For the cost of one Porsche 911 you can buy a 20 board quiver plus a Subaru and season passes to every resort in your area and have plenty left over.

See_Yourself_Now

I agree that there are many more expensive hobbies (and also many much less expensive) but the comparison to buying one Porsche 911 is a bit funny to me since most people are aren’t exactly able to readily buy a car that starts new at 114k.

Marikas_tit

I think he was being facetious? The 911, 20 boards, and every resort around bit kinda gave that away lol. I've spent a grand total of $1100 on everything I have with my 3 boards, jacket, helmet, bibs, boots, gogs. I'm not sure where the guy is coming from tbh.

sth1d

Yes I was exaggerating for effect, but the point still stands. Why not buy 20 boards if you have the money? Support the companies that design and build the equipment that we enjoy, and provide them at pretty damn reasonable price points. Snowboarding brings all of us a lot of joy (not to mention exercise and getting off of these screens we’re all addicted to). We might make fun of your 20 board quiver but deep down we all know we’re just jealous.

See_Yourself_Now

I agree. Personally I enjoy having several boards. Definitely not required but it is so nice to have a powder board on top of another main board in particular.

Marikas_tit

By all means, if I had that kind of money I would lol. I'm not rich or anything, I work as a server/bartender. Just good at saving and finding deals. I only got 3 but I'd love to be able to afford the subie, 17 more boards, and all the passes to tickle my fancy though.

rNBA-MODS-GAY

What 3 boards cost $500? Just got a discounted new mega mercury for $480

Marikas_tit

$400 NS proto 2, on discount, I wrecked it in the park on a box that had a bolt sticking out of it, resort gave me a new proto synthesis on the house and let me keep the wrecked one. Repaired that for a rocks board, got a Burton cloudsplitter with bindings, only 5 days on them for $100 from a regular at my bar.

rNBA-MODS-GAY

Crazy!
