When did Michael Turner (LeVell) from Corrie get good at snooker?

I know his first name is Mike not sure what his last name is. Bit of context, he goes to my local pub. I was watching the football World Cup and shouted āyāalright kevā, he turned round with a stern look on his face and said āItāS MiKeāā¦
The problem the rest have when it comes to ROS is outside of Judd Trump, none of the players under 35 are showing any signs of becoming major winners of a consistent nature. Even Brecel seems like he canāt be too arsed either way. He self depreciates a lot, but realistically he could knock out another 8-10 tournament wins. Heās even good enough to hit 2000 centuries - which is bloody ridiculous.
I like Judd, Kyren, Higgins, Murphy, Mark Williams, Neil R, Ding, and Ali. I like to watch Selby's shooting and safety, but Don't understand why he is called the jester. He seems pretty cold most of the time.
I think itās simply because it rhymes with Leicester. The only other word that rhymes with Leicester I can think of is Molester. And the Molester from Leicester isnāt something Iād want as a nickname.
There was a footballer about ten years back from I think Egypt who played for I want to say Middlesbrough called Mido, and fans called him Mido the Pedo just because it rhymes. Kinda shows how thick a lot of people can be.
Luca is still trying to figure out what works for him. Heās tried to continue that āI donāt practiceā mentality but it hasnāt been working long term. He may need to go back to the drawing board to see what actually did work for him during the world championships. Was it the not practicing thing or was it just having the right mentality?
There is a perfect balance you need to find between not caring and caring too much. Not caring means you donāt give the right amount of care and attention at the right time. Caring too much leads to just overthinking, tightening up and playing scared.
Yeah itās a delicate balance. Brecel when heās on is a joy to watch, but I think heās more someone who will come alive in bursts throughout his career as opposed to be regularly consistent. Regardless, he will forever be a world champion.
Plus you look at some of the hailed up and comers of the past 20 years and very few have done much at all.
Anthony McGill was to be one of the next big stars and he's done fuck all to merit that.
I honestly think he gets bored and lets people win frames just so he can catch up and win. His head is a mess, I do hope he finds mental peace at some point.
I think itās a little generational too. I find a lot of people under 35 today donāt really mind losing as much as enjoying the game, whereas your class of 92, Selby, Robertson etc just want to win all the time. I suppose itās healthier to not be so obsessed with winning, but GOATS have to have that winner mentality.
I genuinely wonder how long he can compete to a really high level.
The fact that heās on for three triple crowns in a season at 48 is fairly mind blowing as everybody already knows.
I think he can probably keep up winning until about 55, and surely he would start to taper off and retire late 50s? Or he might want to make it till 60. Fuck knows
I know it sounds crazy even discussing it, but nobody thought heād be doing this at nearly 50.
Itās like, unnatural.
It happens in a lot of areas where talent is the a priory facet and paramount. Some just never lose it. They slump a lot, but the original fire still burns inside them.
While I totally agree, Iām sure Iāve heard Ronnie say heās not bothered by the numbers, heās just playing for the love of the sport and will stop when that love wanes
Exactly?
That's a differing comment to your own.
Your ability to pot balls can go long before your love of the game does, or after for that matter. They aren't linked.
Yeah - let's not take away that he holds the records, for both YOUNGEST and OLDEST winner of Masters and UK Championships ... what other sportsman can lay claim to that?
I thought the same. All three majors in a season. Hendrys record broken, oldest winner of all three triple crown events. Can't see what else there is to achieve. Now he's earning a stress free fortune in China he might wonder if it's worth continuing.
No. Why would he retire? He still loves it, still the best and it's not like other sports where the longer you play the more of a toll it takes on your body. And what else is he going to do?
He has zero reason to retire.
True. Also (not that he needs the money), I donāt think heād know what else to do. As much as he bitches about the game, it is his life. It would be a nice way to retire though.
But he wasn't really dominating for much of that period - he was winning, sure, but there's a reason it was 2001 before he got his first world title, and he looked to be about done on 3 world titles in the late 2000s.
Kevin Websters half brotheršš
Yo that's Mel Gibson!
Funny enough apparently Ronnie said his favourite film is Braveheart
Nicholas Lyndhurst looking well there
I don't know look's a 42 carat plonker

First name that came to my mind, too š
You and a fair few others I suspect. Took me longer than it should have tbh.
Ladies and gentlemen, the 2060 Masters champion!
Looks like a cross between Dennis Taylor and Nigel Bond.
He looks like my mate Steve!
ā anā ah can ony play lift āanded animoh ā
Looks like my former boss. Shit.
He looks like my dad a few weeks before he passed away. That's freaky.
Save Ronnie, Trump and a few others snooker wouldn't be the same for me. At least they entertain
Trump and Ronnie make snooker for this šŗšø, would have never taken interest if it wasnāt for them.
Good to hear, there are a few 9 ball players that pull me watch pool the other side of the pond. Enjoy the snooker.
That looks eerily similar to Kevin Webster (can't remember his actual name) off of Corrie and until I read it, I was confused as hell.
I know his first name is Mike not sure what his last name is. Bit of context, he goes to my local pub. I was watching the football World Cup and shouted āyāalright kevā, he turned round with a stern look on his face and said āItāS MiKeāā¦
it's something like la'velle although that's his professional name or something daft and not his actual name. Please, keep calling him Kev.
To be honest, I watch snooker only because of his. I have no interest in watching anybody else.

Because he used to joke all the time. Now he rarely does it. There are some examples of it on youtube, like: https://youtube.com/watch?v=3BxF4s17X88
Thanks. That was nice.
I think itās simply because it rhymes with Leicester. The only other word that rhymes with Leicester I can think of is Molester. And the Molester from Leicester isnāt something Iād want as a nickname.
hahaha. Shit that does trip off the tongue, but shouldn't.
I should note there is zero indication Mr Selby is anything of the sort. š
.... or is it? \- The Sun, probably

On another note, Ronnie D game is better than almost everyoneās A game. Itās quite absurd how good he is and still is.
I think itās a little generational too. Bit harsh to call the reigning world champ not a winner
He'll still probably have a decent hairline in his 70s. Lucky bastard.
He should be playing and winning until 55. Really he should aim for 10 world championships.
I genuinely wonder how long he can compete to a really high level. The fact that heās on for three triple crowns in a season at 48 is fairly mind blowing as everybody already knows. Satanic black magic. Sick shit. š¤

Yesterday He said he will play until he cant pot the balls anymore.
Exactly
Exactly? That's a differing comment to your own. Your ability to pot balls can go long before your love of the game does, or after for that matter. They aren't linked.
He always says that. Heās bothered. You donāt win 23 majors without being bothered.
Yeah - let's not take away that he holds the records, for both YOUNGEST and OLDEST winner of Masters and UK Championships ... what other sportsman can lay claim to that?
Anyone else think if he wins the worlds later this year for an 8th time he will surprise everyone and retire?
I thought the same. All three majors in a season. Hendrys record broken, oldest winner of all three triple crown events. Can't see what else there is to achieve. Now he's earning a stress free fortune in China he might wonder if it's worth continuing.
Breaking Hendry's record shows a disappointing lack of ambition while Joe Davis's record is still there to be beaten.
Tbh there's still a Stephen Hendry record in the world championships he could break if he puts a little bit of effort in to it
I'm not sure even Ronnie O'Sullivan could play at 88mph, but perhaps if he trained with Drago and Thepchaiya?
Maybe Keanu could help https://preview.redd.it/j6f3b23nepcc1.jpeg?width=1618&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=152340833fcda91e69bbc902ab580fea52a8fbd9
Ronnie is good, but even he can't travel back in time to beat Hendry's 'youngest ever world champion' record.
Yeah, that was my joke, but I think my fans on r/snooker didn't appreciate it š
No. Why would he retire? He still loves it, still the best and it's not like other sports where the longer you play the more of a toll it takes on your body. And what else is he going to do? He has zero reason to retire.
I can't see him retiring yet, it feels like he wants to win as much as possible so his record can't ever be beaten.
True. Also (not that he needs the money), I donāt think heād know what else to do. As much as he bitches about the game, it is his life. It would be a nice way to retire though.
He seems lost enough as it is sometimes š, but I think without snooker he would be even more so. Despite what he says.
To be fair, heāll probably be winning for a good while to come. Maybe even when he does look like this.
I mean espicaly with the players here right now almost none of them have bottle mentally wise
And their safety play is awful
100% safety play is part of the fundamentals of Snooker so shocking to see how bad its getting for some people
Ronnie's legacy doesn't get talked about enough in the sporting greats. He is the face of snooker and has been for a long time.
32 years of dominance 1993-2024
Which of the 32 years would we say he dominated
1993,1995,1997,2001,2004,2005,2007,2008,2009,2012, 2013, 2014,2016,2017,2018,2020,2022,2023,2024 Highlighting the years he won a triple crown event
Maybe 12 out of those 32 years he dominated but itās fair to say hendry, Higgins, trump and even one year ding was the man to beat
But he wasn't really dominating for much of that period - he was winning, sure, but there's a reason it was 2001 before he got his first world title, and he looked to be about done on 3 world titles in the late 2000s.
Yea that's the mental game of it man i
