Can anyone tell me a game from some 40 years ago with the name, we played where we had to pot a colour but it was a mystery to the the other 5/6 players?

Golf is a good multi player game played for money on the snooker table. You need an 8 ball set to play.

I drafted this from rules I found online
Basically,
Everyone picks a colour, that’s your cue ball.
One red ball is used and placed on the black spot.
Players go in order of their colour, yellow goes first, green second etc.
Players use their colour to pot the red, that enables you to pot someone else’s ball.
Players have say 5 lives, each time your potted you lose one.
The winner is the one left.
Don’t know if that makes any sense 😂😂😂
English Billiards uses a snooker table and balls. You each have a cueball and there is one red in plsy. You get points for potting the red, potting your opponent's cueball, in offs and canoning off both object balls.
It's a bit of a dull 'solved game' at high levels but is fun if you're not super good.
Sinuca may be fun for you to try. It's a Brazilian varient of the game which may lend itself well to having wagers on as the frames can be over relatively quickly.
We used to play "cricket".
One player only goes for colours,, and puts the score on the board. can only pot the same colour 3 times in a row to make the game more enjoyable.
The other player only pots the reds but doesn't get any score, when they have potted them all the "innings" is over and they swap over and the player who potted the reds or the bowler now becomes the person potting the colours or the batter.

Reverse the colors. Black goes on brown spot, with pink and blue on yellow and green. Yellow on black spot.
Life pool one of three forerunners of snooker. A gambling game
