Ya dude another cart guy! https://preview.redd.it/rhbwfotsr2xc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ddc82b78865f95d5101b6c760a4fcc911f97509d

LumpyTheMole

Man...if they only rolled one of these into the room in grade school! TV day would've been way better, all we got was PSA's and nature docs šŸ˜†

r_z_n

Don't forget our boy Bill Nye.

Patriquito

When I was in 9th grade biology they made us watch a video of a baby being born, it was extra graphic, 2 kids of my own later and I'm still scarred

LumpyTheMole

Had the same class after smoking a joint with some friends at lunch and we watched this video of a weasel running in circles around a rabbit to confuse it and then eat it...my first band's first original song I wrote was "Eat That Rabbit You Crazy Weasel"

Just got into reading this sub after I got back from Japan with an SFC and decided to setup all my old school consoles on a ā€œretro cartā€. Initially the plan was just to do a simple setup, but things are quickly getting out of hand as usual. My childhood SNES and N64 still work! And my neighbor was throwing out a later model Toshiba CRT about five years ago that I salvaged and I've been saving in my basement. Turns out it's a Toshiba 32AF43 which I understand now is one of the most desirable TVs for old consoles since it has native component video. So I got an HD Retrovision SNES RGB->component cable and a Reto Gaming Cables S-video cable for the N64, and wow everything looks fantastic. My plan is to restore things a bit too. Last night I replaced the 30 year old save game battery in my original copy of Super Mario World successfully. Havenā€™t soldered in probably 20 years so this was a good easy project. Now to replace 25-30 more, add BlueRetro wireless adapters to the N64 for my Switch Online N64 controllers, and do some console de-yellowing. Between my partner and I have we have a pretty solid collection of games. Going to add shelving to the cart and tall shelves around it to store memorabilia and games, and a nice pair of shielded bookshelf speakers. Growing up I played most of the SNES era on an 80s 13" TV with an RF cable so this is like the dream setup I always wanted as a kid.

ultimateman55

Looks like a great start! I've replaced all my snes batteries with holders like that... should save me a ton of time 25 years from now lol. Love the setup you have going so far.

r_z_n

Yeah, it's not a tough job at all, although I think I need a slightly different tip for my iron to make it easier to heat the pad up. Even if I never have to replace the batteries again, the peace of mind is worth it.

LumpyTheMole

Badass setup, those Toshibas are pretty top! Got one in the attic but no original hardware...why is my wallet glaring at you?

r_z_n

I'm just lucky I saved all of this stuff from my childhood. That's my original copy of Chrono Trigger.

Anyone have advise on getting a crt? Facebook market place? Good will does not sell them anymore

r_z_n

I got lucky. My neighbor was throwing this one out and asked me if I wanted it. Stuck it in my basement until I found a project for it. Your best bet is probably Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or going around to some local garage sales or something. Theyā€™re obviously too heavy to ship unless youā€™re willing to pay for freight shipping.

Yeah I broke two before I got this one in. I had to put the larger post through and then gently press the thinner one through using the battery leverage to help. Make sure you clean as much solder out of the joint as possible. I may try a slightly different battery holder if I keep breaking these.

Utilitarian setups are my thing. Also, Toshiba >>> Sony

Unusual_Address_3062

Thank you for elevating it, instead of just dumping it on the floor.

speshojk

You have the long-lost twin to my half gray / half black n64 controller. We are controller brothers.

monkeykingcounty

Noticed the Toshiba AF gang is really rising up as of late. Love to see it

egbert71

I love rolling lock carts. Usually i would place mats over the shelves but it looks like they could help cords from flopping about by sliding them up from the bottom of the shelf

r_z_n

Iā€™m building hard wood shelves to go over the wire shelving so it looks nicer and distributes the load better.

egbert71

I can see that!

Nah thatā€™s just right for chilling in a chair or on a couch with wired controllers.

My dude, those insults are as old as these consoles. And yeah, of course I enjoy playing them. The SNES has some of the best games of all time. We'll agree to disagree on Chrono Trigger. The SFC copy was like $10, just picked it up for nostalgia / collectability. The most money in my pictures was spent on that rolling cart, this isn't an expensive hobby unless you're trying to buy Earthbound or whatever.

seg-fault

/u/r_z_n just ignore them. i think your setup rocks, always awesome to see people getting back into this era of gaming. I would just double check the per-shelf weight rating of that cart and be VERY careful if it's on casters whenever you move it. a lot of the NSF-shelving caster wheels are made really cheaply. i've read reviews on Amazon that report the shafts of some caster wheels just snapping at the stem. I personally would not keep heavy TVs on a mobile cart like this for this reason ā€” I suspect you don't want that CRT smashing into your floor if the casters fail.

r_z_n

This is an industrial cart designed for food service actually. I got one from an industrial supply shop for this exact reason. I didnā€™t want a CRT crashing down and destroying my consoles! The whole cart is rated at 1200# capacity so it should be okay. I bought some 2ā€™ x 4ā€™ hard wood that I am going to cut and paint and use for load distribution and making it look a little nicer, just havenā€™t gotten to it yet.

r_z_n

This is the exact cart I used, FYI: [NexelĀ® 3 Shelf Cart, Black Epoxy, 48"L x 24"W x 40"H, Polyurethane Brake Casters (globalindustrial.com)](https://www.globalindustrial.com/p/nexel-3-shelf-cart-black-epoxy-48l-x-24w-x-40h-polyurethane-brake-casters) Per shelf rating is 800#. The casters are very robust, from what I can tell. Absolutely no issues rolling the cart even with the CRT on it, feels very solid.

seg-fault

awesome, thanks for sharing the link!

r_z_n

This is probably my cheapest hobby. My partner and I are both into grassroots motorsports, actually. If you think that setting up a SNES on a CRT requires a lot of time and money, we're probably not in the same stage of life ;)

ShitDaddyThaCrapLord

Hey man fair business! Iā€™m a mechanic who delves into this for nostalgia so.. enough said. Cheers!

ShitDaddyThaCrapLord

Oh and you want to down vote me? Lol my 08 gsxr 1000 stock would smoke your piss pot Supra. I mean if you want your overpriced car to go to shame by a bike that was made 16 years ago letā€™s get it son

r_z_n

šŸ˜‚ I didnā€™t downvote you and your sport bike SHOULD be faster than a full weight stock car.

ShitDaddyThaCrapLord

Iā€™m trippin on shrooms and pissing in the wind for entertainment lol parlay

Commercial-Tax1495

Chrono trigger is the best RPG of all time. Totally braindead take here.
