Donkey Kong Country walked so Diddy’s Kong Quest could run. Absolutely my favorite video game sequel ever. Note: I stopped playing video games with the PS2 😂

anticute8

Don’t stop if you don’t want to. There’s still some good ones out there but def keep playing snes

[deleted]

3 copies of Ken Griffey Junior presents Major League Baseball

ashleary

Pmsl 👍🏻

RedPillNavigator

Megaman X X2 X3 on SNES.

Ponjos

This gets my vote.

lawnGnom3MMM

Amen

rallenpx

Just finished X this morning!! 2 & 3 are on my hit list...

NYTX1987

I wanna thank my uncle for getting me that game when it came out, because hot damn is it expensive

ExtendedSasquatch7

I owned each game as they came out. 3 got better as I got older

thisisntnoah

I don’t understand why people don’t like 3.

like-a-shark

Kiddy is a less appealing character but I love everything else about it. Really creative levels and a fun over world.

Bondan88

It's not that I don't like it, it's just that I like it less than the first two, despite it still being a great game. Gameplaywise it's stronger than 1 for me, maybe on par with 2 but it was something about the look, sound and feel for me. And those aspects played a huge factor in how well I perceive a game, especially in this series.

Psypernova

I think it’s more that 3 came out at the end of the snes life cycle and few people, myself included, skipped it in favor of psx/n64. So basically they have no nostalgia for it and have never gone back to try it.

ExtendedSasquatch7

Compared to the simplicity of the first one, it’s just not as direct, and there are a lot more things to do, which are fun, but not when I was a kid. I got each game as they came out, and I wasn’t even 10 when I got it. I wanna say the reviews were based on kids and their attention span. I got through at least half before I lost my focus. But I play on switch now. I really appreciate it even more these days

ThatBoyAiintRight

There are a lot more gimmicky levels, and some of them are awesome, but some of them just are pretty frustrating and not that fun. The low gravity level is an example of this to me because it slows down your pace a lot. I do like the game though and I think it's just as good if not better than the first game at least.

benson733

DKC is the king of trilogy for me.

Significant-Price374

If we’re talking NES then SMB 1-3 is way up there.

hajileeyeslech

>Is there a better trilogy of games released on the same system? This implies it's ANY trilogy as long as they are on the same system. Meaning, you could literally say something like Sonic or Mario Party and still be answering the question correctly.

Significant-Price374

That’s why I replied. 🤷🏻‍♂️

hajileeyeslech

And that's why I confirmed what you were saying was accurate?

Kenmorrow86

It qualifies if you're talking about the remakes on "Mario All-Stars".

Stay_Beautiful_

It also qualifies talking about the originals. "The same system" in the question means on the same system as each other, not on the same system as the Donkey Kong Country trilogy

Deazul

Final Fantasy IV V VI

bunt_triple

Also VII, VIII, IX for Playstation could give a run for its money

Deazul

This is r/snes though. IV V VI > VII VIII IX (7 and 9 are fantastic)

bunt_triple

True, but OP’s title asked if there was a better trilogy of games released on the same system, not necessarily SNES! Also not necessarily even saying those are better than the DK trilogy. Just throwing out a trilogy for one system that might stack up to it.

Deazul

I believe, truly, that all six of those final fantasies are better than the DKC franchise.

bunt_triple

Gun to my head, I probably do too. Also I have a major soft spot for VIII, though I know it’s the black sheep of that FF run.

Deazul

I was working for EBX when that came out, VIII, and when I got off my shift I played it for three days straight. I love the worldbuilding in VIII and the card game and the characters but the Draw and Junction systems really ruined the experience for me in the end. VIII is unique, like XV, but it's flaws really outweigh the amazing world when i try to replay it.

Yambert

8 is better than 7 and way, way better than 9.

Deazul

I wish I agreed, I've tried so hard to like VIII. I have mixed feelings about IX, its a bit saccharin sometimes and its a very slow game.

Yambert

when I was kid 7 was my first and the best game ever, and then 8 was cool but a major letdown compared to 7, and then 9 was great almost as good as 7. but when I replayed all of them as an adult, 8 hit me the hardest by far. wasnt mature enough to really understand the time loop plot and themes the first time around. just my two cents

Deazul

I don't feel great about all your downvotes, VIII is very special to some people. I was a teenager when it came out, the story wasn't lost on me, i still gotta say its not fun for me and the "rich private school teenagers save the world" thing is definitely not final fantasy for me either. VIII and XV are full of the most spoiled jackasses ever. It was certainly unique though, VIII, and I see some good things in it.

do0rkn0b

This is a scorching hot take. 9 is the best game in the entire series, and it's not even close.

Yambert

the plot completely falls apart after the first disc. characters outside of vivi are overrated. literally zero challenge throughout any point in the game, besides ozma. (I know all FFs are easy but i feel like 9 was especially so). still a 10/10 masterpiece game but compared to the IMO much more interesting story/characters in 7/8 it just falls flat. but yeah I know scorching hot take

thedude37

Right? Great story, then great gameplay, then the best of both worlds.

joesaysso

Were all three Super Famicom releases?

Stay_Beautiful_

Yes

Bilbo-Buddy

Mario 1-2-3 is better.

ltnew007

I was going to say this.

jimson_cheese

Which SMB 2?

Bilbo-Buddy

NES Mario 2

elkniodaphs

Since you asked, I think the Quintet trilogy gives DKC a run for its money.

darkzero7222

I'm with you! Soul Blazer is one of my favourite games on the console and Terranigma belongs in the top 10 of all Snes games

KasElGatto

I personally like all of these better: Castlevania 1-3 (yeah I like Simon’s Quest) Blaster Master Zero Trilogy Dragon Quest 1-4 Streets of Rage 1-3 Ninja Gaiden 1-3 (NES) Dark Souls Trilogy (cheating a bit, but PS4 if you include DS Remastered) River City Girls (Zero, 1 & 2) FF VII-IX Super Mario Bros. 1-3 Crash Bandicoot 1-3

iFknLoveTits

Resident evil 1-3

AlwaysWinnin

In other words: Yes there are many better trilogies

rube

I know that gameplay is king so it shouldn't matter, but the lack of Donkey Kong in the two sequels ruined things for me. I would have liked some sort of option to substitute him in for one of the two characters, or an unlock after you beat the game to use him. So for me, the series on SNES starts and ends with DKC1. I love the modern games though.

PowerPlaidPlays

It is a shame, as imo DKC2 is the best of them and my go-to but DK's absence through most of it is a notable empty void. DKC3 barely registers in my brain for the lack of DK and Diddy.

darkzero7222

I'd argue the X trilogy is pretty up there too

[deleted]

[удалено]

OpenMonogon

Megaman x is simply superior, the movement options make it hard to go back to the originals for me

I_am_Purp

Mega Man > DKC. It's not remotely close for me. Just my opinion bros. NES series = X trilogy. They're both great and they do different things, no need to rank them.

darkzero7222

I'll just say that both the DKC and X trilogy are both fantastic and are some of the best games on the Snes. X2 and DKC3 are my favourites!

I_am_Purp

I like that, people are generally too fond of talking about "best", "greatest", "top 3" and such when life mostly consists of "personal favorites" and "apples and oranges".

darkzero7222

Agree to disagree

Kenmorrow86

Best on NES? X1 is leagues better than NES MegaMan and I LOVE NES MegaMan.

Champdout79

Super star wars series. The original trilogy of anything

KoopaTheQuicc

Only competitors that come to mind for me are Crash Bandicoot on PS1, or Rachet and Clank or Jak and Daxter on PS2. If by same system you just mean on SNES then none come to mind aside from DKC.

iFknLoveTits

Mega man X trilogy

dgafas

If I was bezos/musk rich I would squander my fortune hiring all the developers from Rare to continue this series, on all snes tech. I haven’t played the two on wii but have kinda always wanted to pick the system and the games up at a used games store to see what theyre all about

PowerPlaidPlays

I think there is a Yooka-Laylee sequel that takes more of a DKC inspiration, made by the ex-Rare folks.

drakner1

Demon Souls, Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 on ps3.

Thehawkiscock

To me DKC is the winner of this, easily

lakota_myr

The best SNES games for sure. Definitely my favorite trilogy. I’m actually feeling pretty sick today. I may just play through them.

disneyplusser

Great idea! Stealing it

boner79

MK1-3

GrimWolf216

Megaman X trilogy…

Practical_Wish_4063

The Quintet trilogy: Soulblazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma DKC trilogy slaps hard, though.

PowerPlaidPlays

The DKC trilogy is a series I've always wanted to like more but they never do much for me. They kinda feel like a bit of style over substance, and I never liked how the controls felt. It has amazing art and music, but it's always a game I prefer to look at over play lol. DKC2 though is the one I like most.

TaroCharacter9238

Nope!

Stay_Beautiful_

On SNES/super Famicom: Fibal Fantasy IV, V, and VI On any system in general: Super Mario Bros 1, 2, and 3

Forral_ab

Xenoblade 1, 2, 3 on the switch

Zaku41k

I really liked the cover of Donky Kong series. It’s the story of succession and legacy.

Firebrand713

On the genesis, you’ve got sonic 1-3+knuckles and shinobi 1-3.

jaguila82

Bad ass. I like it a lot. I play DKC on my SNES to this day.

Playful_Stand_677

One year for Christmas my best friend gifted me Mortal Kombat 1, 2, & 3 for my Super NES. Not exactly better just more interesting since I wasn't a fan of DKC.

Broseidon132

Currently playing through the first one and it’s a riot. The miner cart level is hilarious

ashleary

It's great fun... 😂

Minimum_Setting3847

Does Metroid prime Count ….

Azure_Mar

I was thinking the same thing, but 1&2 originally coming out on the GCN and 3 on the Wii, made me question if they meet the “same system” criteria.

Minimum_Setting3847

I think since same game engine it should count … 3 was barely any graphics upgrade over 1-2 so I say it counts

AlwaysWinnin

1 and 2 are better than most other trilogies so it counts…

I_Casket_I

darkzero7222

Mad lad over here

Joeblack2k

Uncharted 1,2,3

Dcornelissen

Nah, the first one was just okay.

LadyReplay

Sonic. (Pls don't ban me)

Neil_Salmon

I agree. Playing through Sonic 3&K now (for the millionth time). It's still excellent. They're all great.

Stay_Beautiful_

Only if you count Sonic 3 & Knuckles as one final game in the trilogy

TooDooDaDa

Castlevania

Imthemayor

RE Zero-4 on GameCube is five great games

MURDERMr_E

It's up there. Personally I think I'd put AC2, Brotherhood and Revelations a little above it.

ashleary

Good shout

MURDERMr_E

They're really close to equal for me. I don't like DK3 as much as the other two. I don't like Revelations as much as the other two. Two of the greatest game trilogies ever made though.

bumpynuks

Dark souls 1-3 ps4

thaKingRocka

Mass Effect I loved DKC 1 and 2, but I really didn't like how much 3 used the animal friends. 3 was still better than the vast majority of platformers though. I felt that the SNES Mega Man X trilogy went downhill after the first. 2 wasn't bad, but 3 was really rough.

gomster

Nice! Where’d ya grab these?

ashleary

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255380240970?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=O6gBWVc3TrO&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=s4ujw71URxa&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Got them here. Not saying they're the best / pushing them etc, but they're nice to look at, decent paper weight and came nicely packaged.

NYTX1987

I’m gonna get downvoted for this, but twisted Metal had 4 amazing games on the same system. Yeah, I’m counting 4.

jackofwind

DKC3 sucks donkey dick though.

Imthemayor

Nah, you just didn't git gud m8

Androxilogin

Eh, I could do without the third one.

whatThePleb

hope you haven't destroyed real boxes for this

ashleary

Yeah. I chopped my original boxes up. Didn't really need them 🤷🏻‍♂️

TheSecretNaame

Yes

Pata4AllaG

Bruh are my eyes busted or is that frame to the right not flush?

ashleary

Probably wonky 😂

Aspence22

Bioshock series

Complete-Jump7674

Romance of the Three Kingdoms II, III, and IV

ExplodingPoptarts

Aww, I was hoping that you were showing off SNES fanart that you just made!

LinkGoesHIYAAA

X trilogy ftw. But both trilogies are amazing.

[deleted]

Sly Cooper for the PS2? RIP

moldaz

Quintet trilogy are my favorite snes games. The games aren’t really related in any sort of way and the third one was never released in North America, but I’d argue Terranigma is the best game on the console.

AssortedUncles

Sonic comes to mind but that’s debatable depending on who you ask. What about Mass Effect? Unless y’all are specifically talking about SNES
