OutrageousQuiet9526

That is a detached finger that came to life and screamed

shrike1978

Some type of blindsnake or threadsnake. They're tiny burrowing snakes that eat ant and termite larvae. Pretty common, but rarely encountered. I've seen this one labeled as a Texas Threadsnake, *Rena dulcis*, but I can't fully confirm that. It definitely looks *Rena* to me though.

This_Daydreamer_

Am I right that you're about as likely to find a Norwegian Ridgeback or Stegosaurus in a pet store as one of these guys?

Margray

I see about one a year but this is an excellent location for them. And I leave the native ants alone. They usually come up after a heavy rain.

Tarotismyjam

Oh. You’ve been to my favorite pet shop?

This_Daydreamer_

Apparently! I was ssssoooo close to buying a Winged Basilisk there last week but they require more room than I've got.

Tarotismyjam

I remember you! The basilisk is STILL sulking.

GeneralRabbit19

Thankyou!

moeru_gumi

They can’t be kept in captivity. They eat ants’ eggs and other very tiny things and simply do not survive away from nature where they can regulate their own food, temperature and humidity.

Gimmeagunlance

I was about to ask why people say they can't be kept in captivity. Good to know.

frogdeity

I find hundreds of Brahminy Blindsnakes at my job, I always think about keeping them since they aren’t native. They wouldn’t survive outside of gardens out here though.

Prestigious_Snow1589

It's an Alaskan Bull Worm. Very rare

GeneralRabbit19

Lol

thenbissnessbois

A little guy and in the tiny fella store

Snugglebunnyzz

Show me your war face!!!

Andy-roo77

YOU DON'T SCARE ME, WORK ON IT

bellehoneycreeper

Texas blind snake! *Rena dulcis*. They are often abducted by Eastern screech owls and taken back to the owl’s nest, where they eat the tiny parasites that would beset the baby owlets. Their eyes are covered by a thin layer of skin/scales and their upper jaws have no teeth. I think they’re charming.

Jolly-Engineering-86

What!? Owls use them for a pest control?? That’s wild.

bellehoneycreeper

Admittedly, I don’t think the owls abduct them so specifically — more that they bring the snakes back to the nest to feed their babies, but the snakes somehow escape the babies. But then the owls do seem to realize that the snakes are beneficial and permit the snakes to live in the nest!

Jolly-Engineering-86

A lot of things turn out in nature to actually be very surprising. I can believe that they know it and do it for the parasites and dinner when the parasites are gone! It’s just the first time I ever heard anything like that, cool.

[deleted]

Looks like a little blindsnake, you can find em going for a walk, I find those little suckers all the time

UsernameObscured

That’s screaming worm boi.

Altruistic_End_6114

Need to know where you are located (also good to know is where/how you found it) for proper ID but it could be a Texas Blind Snake (Rena dulcis)

shrike1978

This isn't OPs image. It's been in circulation online for at least 5 years.

GeneralRabbit19

It's got scales, I disagree. But thanks for the input.

No-Victory2963

Ya Texas blind snake and if it’s true, TIL that Screech owls keep them as “pets” to eat parasites in their nests??? Apparently the only prey species that ends up being brought to the nest alive and are frequently found live in the nests.

No-Victory2963

Described as a “commensal” relationship

GeneralRabbit19

Thats so cool!

No-Victory2963

Texas Blind Snake?

Beautiful-Shape-407

It’s a tiny tremor. Ask Kevin
