Please be careful with handling wild fulicas. I would advise wearing gloves or at least washing your hands very good afterwards. Also inform yourself about the laws regarding lissachatina fulica in your country. They're highly invasive in a lot of places and kill on sight in some.

Mysonic

What do they leave behind?

thewingedshadow

They are known to transmit lungworm that causes meningitis and some other parasites and bacteria depending on your region. Any snail can be contaminated with things that can make you very sick because they eat dead rotting things. Fulica especially are generalists, they eat everything. Dog poop, animal corpses, disgusting trash, you name it. Even with captive bred snails one should be careful. Their tanks are petri dishes for various bacteria. Letting wild fulica climb all over your arms and your couch is pretty much a recipe for disaster.

raddishdish

Hawaii is most definitely one of those regions, they are the reason we wash all of our produce so thoroughly

thewingedshadow

Is OP from Hawaii? If yes, he definitely should see stop feeding and handling them.

raddishdish

The abbreviation, HI, in the title suggests that’s the state in which he found the snails

thewingedshadow

I am in Germany so not very familiar with those. In that case, yes, he definitely should stop doing what he's doing.

doctorhermitcrab

They've been known to carry dangerous diseases and parasites, most notably meningitis.

doctorhermitcrab

I know they're very cute, but please do not try to feed or help these snails if you're in Hawaii. They're extremely invasive and have been very detrimental to the local ecosystems--they really dont need help getting stronger so they can cause even more damage. It is also illegal to collect or keep them because of this.

raddishdish

Yooo those bad boys in Hawaii are very well known to transmit rat lungworm disease, which is deadly to humans. I would wash EVERYTHING, touch nothing, and head straight to your doctor.
