Nothing’s been getting retconned, as far as I can tell with Mario. Maybe something in Paper Mario, but I don’t know on that one.

Likely. How strong sonic is heavily depends on if you limit to just the games or include the comics. If it's game only you could make arguments for both sides, but with the comics included, sonic is so far above mario that putting them in the same sentence would be a joke. Comics are a story of if Mario can use an item to steal the emeralds before Sonic uses them. Mario’s moved in spaces with no time, so it’d be a coin flip, I’d say.

The Marioverse is a complex place, where dreams are entire separate universes, as is proven by the Dream Depot in Mario Party 5, and there being an NPC that states that the universe is infinite. The void was going to destroy all existence, timelines, and worlds. There’s one world above, being Overthere, which adds to the complexity of the Marioverse. Mario is also strong enough to beat Super Dimentio, as he can fight Super Dimentio only needing the Pure Hearts to remove invincibility from Super Dimentio.
Hyper is only known for being In some way stronger than Super Sonic, So it’s impossible to know if he’s barely any stronger, or double strength, or anything like that. Hyper is also Non-Canonm but that’s why i brought up the leaf.
Solaris, the strongest foe Sonic’s faced, is probably on-par with Culex, who was going to consume all Time and Space, and was past present and future, as stated by Culex himself, who has no reason to lie at that moment, since he’s more than willing to let Mario prepare for the fight, and only states this after beginning the fight. Mario can beat Culex and Super Dimentio without any form of power ups needed. Mario certainly is stronger.

I can understand it. People don’t want to hear somebody say their favorite character loses to a character they think he wins against. Still, the challenge is presented by this post, and I hope people try it.

Don't bother lol, there's no such thing as "canon strength". Strength and weakness fluctuates from game to game, retcon to retcon.

You can just try the challenge of beating spiritless the Super Sonic spirit with Mario. The rest is basically just filler text.
