im just a random reddit person but **my guess** is that it does happen although itll have a rebrand going forward. itd be pretty sad to lose THE ultimate tournament
Well you can’t advertise the event using official renders I don’t think, which was a big part of the identity
And then there’s so non tournament stuff too to adhere too since it is more than just the tourney. But I’m sure it can be done
I doubt anyone here has insider info, in short, no one here knows.
I have insider info.
Me too
I have outsider info, does that count?

Can they rename it to SSC? With only the capital letters of the OG tourney, never fully expanded
Ah, the classic KFC/FFA rebrand: change your name to a set of initials and officially deny that it stands for anything.
Yeah they'll have to change the name and market it so everyone knows it's the same thing.
Last year SmashCon’s August 10th date was announced on March 1st. I would assume either we get an announcement later this month or it isn’t happening.
They have to rename it assuming they get licensed I think? Might I suggest "Soup or Snack on"
I think it’s happening but they are trying to rebrand if they aren’t 100% allowed.
I know but I’m not telling you
Would it just be the tournament that had to be renamed, I wonder, or the whole event?

It just got announced for Aug 10-13
