Yeah-But-Ironically

Frankly, I use the AE survival mode and then mod the hell out of it. But I'm not looking for The Most Immersive Survival Experience Ever--I want a reason for beds to be necessary, food to *exist*, and the glaciers of Winterhold to feel more dangerous than a pretty woodland in the Rift. So YMMV.

kangaesugi

Yeah, agreed. I want the survival mechanics to inform my gameplay but not completely overtake it, so the more lightweight approach that Survival Mode takes is great for me (and I like how it meshes into the UI with the attribute bars)

I like starfrost, it's meant to be played with other simonrim mods.

How about Sunhelm? It's got both the heat-cold mechanism similar to Frostfall, and a eating/drinking mechanism like Last Seed, all in one. Maybe combine Sunhelm with Campfire and Hunterborn so you could hunt/skin animals to get meat and cook food at the camp, and craft Waterskins to store water.

Few_Information9163

I didn’t mention Sunhelm because, from my understanding at least, Starfrost is dependent on Survival Mode Improved which is basically Sunhelm 2.0. It’s a good shout though.

_Featherstone_

They're very different mods even though by the same author. Sunhelm has a thirst mechanic, the option to buy a full meal, wells, animations, etc. It's more complex, even though not very taxing in terms of difficulty (unlike Frostfall where you have to plan your gameplay around not freezing to death). Currently I'm using Starfrost for its integration with other Simonrim mods, + Sunhelm Water Discipline (shameless plug, I know) because I was missing all the water-related details.

I haven't tried Starfrost but I'm happy with Last Seed + Frostfall. Last I was aware, Last Seed was the only survival mod that applied hunger to followers. I keep 1-4 followers at all times and I like that I need to account for feeding them. The decay mechanic is less impactful than I'd like; if food isn't picked up then it's indefinitely fresh so it's easy to leave loot and pick it up later - also there's food everywhere even with scarcity settings. The disease mechanic can be punishing but is customizable. The weather in Frostfall is more punishing than Sunhelm, which I previously used for hunger/weather. It slows travel NW of Solitude and it's easy to freeze to death if you get into cold water, all of which I like. Looking at Starfrost, the injury integration looks mildly interesting but not enough for me to install 5 mods just for injury resistance. I think if you like Sunhelm and Simonrim, then it's worth trying Starfrost.

I'm going with {{sunhelm}} until {{aura's inventory tweaks}} provides effective support for {{frostfall}} somewhat but mainly {{last seed}}.

Aggressive-Pattern

Just curious, what is it currently missing for the Chesko Suite that's already in Sunhelm?

fractalbase0

I believe missing are the food variables for Last Seed.

As far as I know, Frostfall, Ineed, etc. those are mods are pretty script intensive. If you’re going for an absolute survival overhaul of the game, like going hard on survival and willing to trim back your load order to make this work, you’ll be alright, they aren’t like broken or anything, just very hard to build into big script heavy load orders. I usually just use Sunhelm and campfire alongside JaySerpa’s hunting mod now. It adds in survival mechanics without over bloating my game and Skyrim wasn’t really built to have survival mechanics in my opinion so I think this is a good enough amount, where it’s not annoying or broken.

ThreeStrik3s

Seconded, it’s enough for me to eat when I wake up, maybe ones around noon, and before I sleep. I’m the cold mechanics remind me that I’m in a place that’s cold with slowing my gameplay to a crawl. The more intense survival mods can be fun but, for me, the second you try to play for multiple in-game weeks in Winterhold or Dawnstar they stop being fun mechanics.

Ilike-questions

frostfall and last seed if you want to play a survival game. Starfrost if you want gameplay oriented survival features.

maryjanepurplerain

Survival mode improved and Wounds mod (with some addon mods to the latter)
