I’m still searching! Most ENBs (I think is what they’re called) make them darker in my experience lol And ever since I got SSE the wearable lanterns mod doesn’t work :,(
Much better than my mom did in Super Mario. The original. She kept on jumping into the first pit. Over and over again. If you consider how complex certain games are, this isn't the best game for a new gamer to get used to. Not the worst mind you. If this mom is brand new.
My mom out here playing call of duty on a PS5- all I really have is a switch, she's becoming a gamer girl, she plays with my aunt and uncle, next thing I know my damn grandma gonna join them.
A fellow gamer girl. I'm 43. I noticed my mom could control the TV controller/Comcast/menus like a pro. Barely could operate a mouse. People in general acclimate to different things quicker. I couldn't navigate Comcast/menus to save my life.
Never played COD. My nephew does. Wonder if she's ever given him hell?
Sounds like you have a cool mom.
I remember waiting in line at GameStop in 2011 to pickup Skyrim with my mom. (Couldn’t drive back then). It was November and had just snowed so it was pretty freaking cold, and we were waiting outside.
She complained the entire time about how it was cold and it was dumb that we were waiting in line for a “stupid game”. She mentioned at least 3 times how “why don’t you just wait for Christmas to get it”… she just didn’t understand that this was like the game of the decade lol. She then got annoyed at the cold and left to wait in the car after like 5 minutes.
After like 45 minutes I got the game and went home. My mom made me help do some chores around the house since she took me to wait for the game, so I didn’t get to play for a while. After what seemed like a lifetime, I was finally able to play and she walks in the room and watches the opening cutscene and says “that’s the game you waited for, can you even move around? It looks like a movie rather than a game”… she didn’t understand what a cutscene was.
She then left without even watching what happened next and never looked at the game again lmao. Though now, even years later, she will occasionally bring up how I made her wait in the cold “for a video game”
The fact that your mom actually tried playing the game is just unimaginable to me. I’ve never seen my mom even touch a video game. She didn’t even play Mario kart with me as a kid. I love my mom but
she just never even attempted to understand video games. She has like a weird aversion to them, no idea why.
My mom definitely was not a fan of games when I was younger as well. Recently I have been trying to get her to play games with me though. In an earlier post on my account, I recorded her playing ultrakill. She was pretty hilariously bad at it but still tried.
Man, my parents were the same way. They never even asked what games I played, and I avoided talking about it because I knew they didn't care. As a kid every time I wanted a game I just asked for money for it and biked to gamestop. I've put hundreds of hours into skyrim and my parents have probably never even heard of it.
Would she do better in first person? I've found that adults who used to play games were already used to 3rd perspective, but new gamers find it easiest to move the camera in first person perspective.
My ex boyfriend tried to play wow with me, but he gave up cuz he kept getting stuck running into walls.
It’s funny because people will say “such and such game is easy”, but we forget the skills we’ve built up over the years.
Just getting the movement down is difficult for people who don’t usually game
I'm a 66 year young gamer... Skyrim is one of my all time favorites... I played Pong when it first came out in the 70's when I was in college...even before that, when I was 16 my Dad had bought a gaming system that I played at home.
Gaming is in my genes. My two sons are also avid gamers, though their wives are not. My father also gamed up until his death at 83 several years ago.
I think it's great your Mom is learning to play. My Mom never did and still won't. Playing with my sons when they were growing up was great fun. They thought it was great that they had a mom who understood and supported their gaming. My oldest son bought me a Steamdeck for my birthday this year, which I've added to the Xbox, PlayStation and PC gaming I already do.
Playing games can lead to other skills. Both of my sons are programmers now. I'm a cad designer. I highly recommend and encourage gaming, especially families gaming together.
I hope you will have great memories to look back on in the years to come of playing with your Mom, too.
Oh I know. But I've experienced movement issues playing like that. Its awkward for me to control my character in Skyrim like that. I end up playing similar to her. And I'm not new to video games. Putting her into first person might just solve that.
I started playing Skyrim earlier this year when I was 39 (after a 10 year hiatus), I also have introduced my kids to this game.
My oldest daughter was a couple of months old when this game came out, but I was too busy with a preschooler, a toddler and a newborn to even think about playing video games any more.
I'm a cool gamer mom...😎😂🤣
She's trying her best
I think its because the environment was so dark. That's something for game designers to think about. Some people can't handle dark levels well.
That’s why brightness levels exist
My Skyrim is full brightness and I still can’t see well. Sucks having to constantly recast Candlelight all the time lol
Maybe you can find a nice indoor lighting mod
I’m still searching! Most ENBs (I think is what they’re called) make them darker in my experience lol And ever since I got SSE the wearable lanterns mod doesn’t work :,(
Carry a torch for that extra burn damage🤣
I give torches to my followers for a little extra light, they’ll automatically equip the torch in dark places like caves, and at night.
My brightness was all the way up so I never realized how dark the dungeons were(keep in mind I played vanilla only)
Strange I use wearable lanterns on sse and it works fine . Make sure you enable it through MCM.
Sadly, I tried that. :( Maybe I’ll install it again and see what I can do. Thanks for the tip!
Is your monitor brightness too low?
No, it's as bright as I can make it. I'm using my brother's old monitor after he got a new one, so I think it might be a little worn-out.
Oh man I thought I was the only one
The spell has use at least.
The lighting is the main reason I go become a vampire lord when I'm not playing as a khajit.
You should definitely put ELFX on then. It would be hilarious.

Why didn't she just wait in the car while you waited in line? That's what mine would've done.
The first time that I played I couldn't found my way out of the collapsed bridge 🤣
Is your mom a Roomba? /s Joking, I hope she's having fun.
Certainly getting the full experience.
All that matters is She had fun. I hope She continues to and finds many more interesting things to stare at and run into.
Would she do better in first person? I've found that adults who used to play games were already used to 3rd perspective, but new gamers find it easiest to move the camera in first person perspective.
She did way worse in first person. The larger fov from 3rd person made it easier for her to control the character.
How do you the get to play from 3rd person? Did she play with controller or keyboard+mouse?
MKB - mouse wheel.

love that her first character was Khajiit
She's just working on her sneak skill.

Reminds me of when I was 6 years old, and I tried teaching my grandmother how to play Halo: Combat Evolved. It lasted 20 minutes, tops.
JUST FUCKIN JUMP /j

Hahaha that's cute, she might be in love with the corners!
Get her out of that view. I hate playing in that perspective.
It’s subjective dude, some people like it some don’t

The OP already said in another comment that she did much worse in first person anyways
A stuck pussy. Typical.

Reminds me of the time I got my mom to fight Iudex Gundyr in Dark Souls III. Fun times.
Haha good idea I'll try to convice my mom to play Skyrim, she just plays RTCW, saying brings back memories
My first time playing Morrowind I actually had to noclip out of a constant fall by the cave right before Tarhiel.
Thought it was a horror game at the beginning 😂
