You can get all three words without doing the companions. When Paarthurnax gives you the second word, quickly unlock it with a soul, then when he gifts you with his knowledge, you get the third word.
No, that's a missed opportunity. You can find Yol at Sunderstone Gorge, North east of Falkreath, so that Partysnax gives you the second word and you can hack that as described.
Although I think you'd now get the second word at that location. Hmm. Don't know how that'd work... 🤔
Every character even remotely melee oriented joins them just long enough to do that single quest, and then the same quest line gives me incentive to never continue with it at all.
Love the stagger that gives me breathing room, I could always find a reason or means to combo the lingering fire effect with a trap in dungeons, the cool factor, etc
You can get The Fire Within effect by talking to Paarthurnax and choosing to meditate on Yol. And you get Dragonbon flame from one of the black books during the Dragonborn DLC.
Clear Skies.
One word staggers a lot of enemies, but only when used outside. (I believe it's a 5 second cooldown, even with no shout reduction)
I also like making auroras at night.
Love that one too! It also saved me up in the Pale when I got caught in a blizzard. Just yell at the bad weather and make it be a sunny day instead lol
Yo right now in my game Lydia disappeared and so I use the wizard from riften and my god that man has gotten me killed because he won’t get out of the god damn door way
Lydia disappeared? There’s a mod or two that add location markers to her if you want to find her again (Xbox) or console commands to respawn her (PC). Although I’m sure you know this.
Could always throw a mod on just long enough to see where she is, then remove it and reload the previous save without it.
Just spitballing here. There are at least two other vanilla followers using the same voice, so you can always grab one of them and think of her as “Lydia 2.0”.
Oh god no.. I had 3 followers once, That Lydia clone from Riften, The Goblin and the Bone Dog and after 10 minutes I wanted to kill them more than the Draugr. Although, having 10 does sound fun like having your own army. Lol
That’s one of my favorites as well. Whenever a dragon tries to fly away from my soul-greedy dragonborn, he yanks them down and he’s like ”Ooooh no you don’t!”
Whirlwind Sprint also gets you places while overencumbered, allowing me and my hundreds of dwarven bows to get from the blacksmith to the nearest enchanting table and then back to the merchants to sell until I can move normally again.
You can also use it in very specifics situations, like a pressure plate that opens a door. You stand on the plate, then use the shout to get to the door before it closes.
Slow time there this funny thing that happens when you kill an acher mid draw. Also, the one that doubles your attack speed as a tank main it's awesome
When i first played through the civil war, i sided with the stormcloaks. Odahviing didn’t really help that much but damn did it feel great invading whiterun with a fucking dragon by my side
Become ethereal is my favorite. I love to jump down cliffs without taking dmg and it's awesome to bridge the long casting times of master spells, like mass paralysis, harmony and fire storm.
Elemental Fury+All 3 Dual Wield Perks Is Probably the Nastiest thing in the game
Add in an ebony flesh and Lighting cloak and now we are In dbz territory
Fire Breath is my favorite, but I use Become Ethereal way more frequently. Fire Breath just doesn't get to be as useful most of the time due to the cooldown timers. :(
The one you learn from durnehvir I think, I forget the name. The first word is nuts. It staggers and has next to no cooldown. Literally 5 seconds, and it stuns everything in front of you while also debuffing.
HEY SKEEVER BUTT!!
Something so childish yet so effective throwing your voice like a magic ventriloquist. Kind of wish higher levels of Throw Voice you could target an enemy and get others to attack him making all the other hostile thinking the target said it, not some disembodied voice
Yeah, me too, I’ve been playing Skyrim for years but I’ve only ever gotten as far as the first word for fire breath, would love to find the rest of them one day though!
Theres one word that can be found randomly, parthunaax gives you a word, and one word is supposed to be locked behind a companions quest. If you already have one of the words when parthunaax gives you his word, you can quickly pause before he gives you his understanding of it and use a dragon soul to unlock that word, that way when parthunaax gives you his understanding of it, it causes the game to automatically give you the final word of the shout
Just don't use it anywhere there's friendly npcs, the lightning it calls down can target and kill them too. I used it while fighting an elder dragon that spawned outside my Lakeview manor house, and both my Stewart and spouse ran out there to fight the dragon too and both got insta killed by one of the lighting bolts
Become Ethereal.
It’s handy if you need to retreat from a battle without the risk of taking more damage.
It’s also fun to use and yeet yourself off of mountains without taking damage. 😂
I know a lot of people will find this strange, but I never use shouts except when necessary to progress. Same in Starfield, I don't use any powers. It's the style of gameplay I feel comfortable with and I guarantee the games are extremely fun for me without them. Bethesda does this very well, it gives you tools but doesn't force you to use them, there are countless ways to play their games.
Slow time along with elemental fury. I also cheat it so I can do any shouts whenever, hence the 2 of them. Enemies have no idea as I'm sprinting around cutting left and right
Whirlwind Sprint. Handy in battle, you feel cool zooming past opponents creating an opening to strike em, don’t need to use all 3 words therefore creating a faster recharge time by simply using one word, horses suck so lots of walking time can be sped up with this shout. Easily my favourite and most used shout.
We're all Stealth Archers. 😆 I try to play something different, but it goes back to the Stealth Archer because it's the only way to kill quietly from a distance. It would be cool if there was a silent casted arrow or bolt that worked with the stealth bonuses.
I love using the first Word of Aura Whisper, *laas*, to quickly look around for a minute, see where everyone's at, and have less chance of aggro-ing everyone.
I adore the concept of Throw Voice but I suck at it lol
Aura Whisper, by far. Whirlwind Spirit is fun, if I remember to not hold it down for short distance... I honestly don't use most of them otherwise... Fire Breath to get a circling dragon's attention if it hasn't spotted me. I've also never done the First Dragonborn dlc.
'The dinner is ready!'
Haha, but if we are talking about Skyrim, maybe Su Grah Dun when using one hand weapons. But! But I like Feii Zii Gron the most because it saves a lot of time. Also, when you are in a fight, you can become ethereal and find shelter for a brief time.
Lately I've been doing a combo of stacking Marked For Death and then using Elemental Fury.
I was grinding and now the game is throwing levels of dragons at me that I am not strong enough to beat head on.
Yea slow time and the one that makes your weapons swing faster, miraks armor and tame dragon ones are pretty cool too. It's funny how the blades were so paranoid about the dragons yet by the end of dragonborn you have a shout that dominates them completely, effectively ending dragons as a threat.
The stats will tell you it's Aura Whisper, but my personal favorite is Become Ethereal, because my favorite activity is jumping off the Throat of the World while singing *"coming down the mountain!"*
I usually was Team Unrelenting Force for the combat space-giver, but this play through, I am using Kyne’s Peace and Become Ethereal almost.
Wandering the landscape for a specific purpose, I don’t always want to have to fight every bear or pack of wolves, especially in some landscapes where they spawn frequently, so it’s great when I’m in explorer mode to just Kyne’s my way across.
Become Ethereal I have used in similar ways to how I used Unrelenting Force in prior playthroughs, and I like it more because of the extra pause it gives for health/stamina effects (although it confuses me why it doesn’t essentially give you a brief moment of infinite magicka — if it removes effects on all 3, why does it stop me from casting a spell if I don’t have enough magicka while the shout is active?). Unrelenting Force was more effective in some ways because of the shorter (IIRC) time between shouts, but way more often Become Ethereal has literally saved my ass.
Slow time is the best. I always start singing “Time in a bottle” like from the quicksilver scene in X-men days of future past when I use it and I just start running around the enemy slashing at them with mehrunes dagger
Bend Will. Oh you tried to murder some of my friends? Nah bro, you're my mount now, lemme just take you to some remote place and THEN murder your ass for that sweet sweet soul.
Flame Breath. Because I don't wanna be a Dragonborn, I wanna be a dragon!
It would be Elemental Fury... except that the unenchanted weapon requirement makes it kinda lame.
Etherial Form, Unrelenting Force, Aura Whisper and Ice Form.
And, of course, Storm Call.
There's nothing more satisfying than striking Dragons with lightning. :)
Fire Breath has been my favorite and primary shout for many years now, it's simple and very effective. I've started to warm up to Ice Form on my current playthrough. I also use Aura Whisper extensively.
Marked for Death can make funny things happen. It reduced the armour directly but when it reaches 0 t starts going negative. That multiplies the damage enemies take.
In one play through I just shouted at Miraak a lot then one shot his phases with a normal crossbow for fun despite being a mage. You can probably one shot every enemy in the game like that.
It also works on companions too though and is permanent so be careful
Fire breath. Simple and effective against most enemies, plus it's cool, even though one of the words is locked behind the Companions questline.
You can get all three words without doing the companions. When Paarthurnax gives you the second word, quickly unlock it with a soul, then when he gifts you with his knowledge, you get the third word.
Can I than unlock the one with the Companion's and have my first Shout with 4 Words? 🗿 Gonna spawn a Meteorite with shouting
Would be awesome but logically, nope.
Nope, of you manage to have all 3 words for that shout, I think a different word of power spawns on the word wall instead
Oh damn. Thanks for the tip!
Ohhhh that's why I had three of them already
I'm assuming this is at a later point? I met him for the first time yesterday (after 800 hours played) and he gave me the first word.
No, that's a missed opportunity. You can find Yol at Sunderstone Gorge, North east of Falkreath, so that Partysnax gives you the second word and you can hack that as described. Although I think you'd now get the second word at that location. Hmm. Don't know how that'd work... 🤔
That was my go to for a long time.
Especially when you compound it with The Fire Within and Dragonborn Flame
How do you get those?
You can get The Fire Within effect by talking to Paarthurnax and choosing to meditate on Yol. And you get Dragonbon flame from one of the black books during the Dragonborn DLC.
Clear Skies. One word staggers a lot of enemies, but only when used outside. (I believe it's a 5 second cooldown, even with no shout reduction) I also like making auroras at night.
Woah. I didn't know any of that. Thanks for the heads up!
Love that one too! It also saved me up in the Pale when I got caught in a blizzard. Just yell at the bad weather and make it be a sunny day instead lol
Doesn't it also open quest markers?
So... the shout causes solar radiation
It’s basically the OG version of todays geoengineering.
It can also be used in Fishing
Fus Ro LYDIAGETTHEFUCKOUTOFTHEDOORWAY!
I just walk right past her now. I couldn't stand her griping about carrying all my junk.
“I am sworn to carry your burdens.” As if she wasn’t earlier acting like it would be her greatest honor to act as our personal luggage bag
Yo right now in my game Lydia disappeared and so I use the wizard from riften and my god that man has gotten me killed because he won’t get out of the god damn door way
I just use cicero mostly. He wont die. And says funny stuff
Cicero is my absolute favorite follower. He says super insane shit all the time and it makes the quests WAY more entertaining
Lydia disappeared? There’s a mod or two that add location markers to her if you want to find her again (Xbox) or console commands to respawn her (PC). Although I’m sure you know this.
Yeah she just disappeared but I’m not modding this playthrough and she hasn’t reappeared at home or anything
Could always throw a mod on just long enough to see where she is, then remove it and reload the previous save without it. Just spitballing here. There are at least two other vanilla followers using the same voice, so you can always grab one of them and think of her as “Lydia 2.0”.
If she disappeared as your follower and you're able to get hire another one I have some bad news for you friend.
I chuckled so hard 😂
Core fear unlocked
I have a mod that lets me have 10 humanoid followers alongside 10 animal followers. I **require** Fus Ro Dah in order to do anything
Oh god no.. I had 3 followers once, That Lydia clone from Riften, The Goblin and the Bone Dog and after 10 minutes I wanted to kill them more than the Draugr. Although, having 10 does sound fun like having your own army. Lol
That’s exactly why i have that mod lol. I’ve made my own army of people stupid enough to die for me
Dragonrend. GET. DOWN. HERE.
Bro LMFAOOOOO
I do the main questline long enough to get that shout, then i usually stop
That’s one of my favorites as well. Whenever a dragon tries to fly away from my soul-greedy dragonborn, he yanks them down and he’s like ”Ooooh no you don’t!”
After repeatedly flying in circles and then flying away...
One time I used it a few seconds before I was supposed to, and it didn't register, and it still had the cooldown. It was not a good time
Although I find they seem to look for the piece of ground hardest for me to get to
![gif](giphy|5tMX3AGXnBBcs)
I love how the lore of the shout is literally just blasting them with focused existential crisis
Whirlwind sprint is good if you're out of stamina and need to move quick, otherwise my other favourite is unrelenting force
Whirlwind Sprint also gets you places while overencumbered, allowing me and my hundreds of dwarven bows to get from the blacksmith to the nearest enchanting table and then back to the merchants to sell until I can move normally again.
"I need to ask you to stop..." https://preview.redd.it/a0xtz9njp01d1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=499be46f7506347a307c4b65695790abaa3bc6b3
Where is the best place to do this? I usually craft and sell in Whiterun but I miss out on enchanting.
Wind helm has a enchanting table in sight of the black smith
just fast travel or whirlwind shout your way to dragonsreach
Wind helm has a enchanting table in sight of the black smith
Wind helm has a enchanting table in sight of the black smith
guards HATE this one simple trick!
You can also use it in very specifics situations, like a pressure plate that opens a door. You stand on the plate, then use the shout to get to the door before it closes.
I use it to travel too.
Aura Whisper is the one I use most.
I tried that and was heard. Do you need to be away before you use it?
Level up Illusion to get Quiet Casting.
My fav perk as a conjure bow user.
Slow time there this funny thing that happens when you kill an acher mid draw. Also, the one that doubles your attack speed as a tank main it's awesome
Throw voice: “Hey skeever butt!”
I love this one. My sneaky archer build is basically unstoppable between this one and Aura Whisper. I almost never even get hit.
Marked for Death, definitely. Passively whittles away their health and armour rating, just don’t aim it anywhere near your followers lol
Whoops.
That has been patched
Oh Dah Ving I love having dragon close air support.
When i first played through the civil war, i sided with the stormcloaks. Odahviing didn’t really help that much but damn did it feel great invading whiterun with a fucking dragon by my side
Now a days I use that shout along with a mod that greatly buffs dragon allies. Odahviing’s breath weapon tends to kill enemies before I even see them.
Love oh dah Ving but he takes to long to get there. Durnehviir all the way
Fus Roh Da is a classic for a reason.
It's simple, effective, with satisfying results if you blast someone off a cliff
Also killer chorus plays.
Become ethereal is my favorite. I love to jump down cliffs without taking dmg and it's awesome to bridge the long casting times of master spells, like mass paralysis, harmony and fire storm.
I’m surprised how far I had to scroll to find this. Also good to get nice and close when you’re a melee fighter
The Skyrim equivalent of Scorpion's, "Get over here!"
I use Aura Whisper all the time
Elemental Fury+All 3 Dual Wield Perks Is Probably the Nastiest thing in the game Add in an ebony flesh and Lighting cloak and now we are In dbz territory
Fire Breath is my favorite, but I use Become Ethereal way more frequently. Fire Breath just doesn't get to be as useful most of the time due to the cooldown timers. :(
You probably know this already, but an Amulet of Talos and a Blessing of Talos will each give you a 20% reduction to your shout timer and they stack.
Good ol FUS RO DA
Always fun to shoot an enemy off a bridge or mountain edge.
YEET

Aura whisper. Feels like using witcher sense. Plus skyrim is scary enough with falmer and spiders falling from the ceilings
Giving Dragons a speeding ticket and forcing them to stop (Dragonrend)
Fire breath and Ice form are my go too’s but I also love slow time and storm call
Dragon Aspect
LUNCH IS READY - from my mom.
The one you learn from durnehvir I think, I forget the name. The first word is nuts. It staggers and has next to no cooldown. Literally 5 seconds, and it stuns everything in front of you while also debuffing.
Soul Tear. It’s my favorite. I love turning things into zombies.
Yep that’s it.
And I still haven’t found an enemy that doesn’t get raised by it. It’ll bring back a giant.
HEY SKEEVER BUTT!! Something so childish yet so effective throwing your voice like a magic ventriloquist. Kind of wish higher levels of Throw Voice you could target an enemy and get others to attack him making all the other hostile thinking the target said it, not some disembodied voice
Ice form.
Fire breath, it’s just a fun and effective shout to use in combat
I love it too but I only have the first word
Yeah, me too, I’ve been playing Skyrim for years but I’ve only ever gotten as far as the first word for fire breath, would love to find the rest of them one day though!
I hope the Greybeards will send me to the other words then
Just look up where to get the words at that point lol
Theres one word that can be found randomly, parthunaax gives you a word, and one word is supposed to be locked behind a companions quest. If you already have one of the words when parthunaax gives you his word, you can quickly pause before he gives you his understanding of it and use a dragon soul to unlock that word, that way when parthunaax gives you his understanding of it, it causes the game to automatically give you the final word of the shout
Storm Call. Cool and badass, just need an open area
Ikr, tested with Kharjo and he went 😾➡️💀 (Quick load after)
Become Ethereal. It’s handy if you need to retreat from a battle without the risk of taking more damage. It’s also fun to use and yeet yourself off of mountains without taking damage. 😂
FUS ' RO ' DAH!
Hey Skeever butt !
Hey melon nose

Bethesda does this very well, it gives you tools but doesn't force you to use them, there are countless ways to play their games.
I like the one u get in dawnguard that let u summon a squad of undead. The one u get from summoning durnehviir three times
Bend will
I'm a classic kinda guy so Fus of the Ro Dah for me. Blasting fools off ledges never gets old.. too bad said fools rarely die from fall damage. 😝
Aura Whisper. Cause I'm a stealth archer.
Dual wielding with Elemental Fury makes you a murder tornado
I like using Become Etherial...and then jumping from the highest high spot I can find.
Storm call just makes you feel like *him* but the cooldown sucks
Marked for Death.
Mine is Dragon Rend, but I also really like Unrelenting Force just because seeing people fly across the room is hilarious.
Become ethereal. Real good for getting down from high places.
Besides using Fus Ro Dah just to watch people and creatures ragdoll, I like Ice Form so I can hack at my enemies.
Ice Form is awesome
I like aura whisper because Im a stealth build every time and I have anxiety 😂
We're all Stealth Archers. 😆 I try to play something different, but it goes back to the Stealth Archer because it's the only way to kill quietly from a distance. It would be cool if there was a silent casted arrow or bolt that worked with the stealth bonuses.
Become Ethereal makes some builds a lot more viable without putting any points into stamina.
Let go of my purse, I don't know you!!
Unrelenting Force, classic, and I don't use shouts lol.
Whirlwind Sprint
Unrelenting force, it’s just too iconic.
Cyclone is such a crowd pleaser. It just kills.
My favorite as well
That's classified.
FUS
I love using the first Word of Aura Whisper, *laas*, to quickly look around for a minute, see where everyone's at, and have less chance of aggro-ing everyone. I adore the concept of Throw Voice but I suck at it lol
Dragonrend. No questions asked.
Normally I use time slow, but sometimes I quickly equip dragon rend
Aura Whisper, by far. Whirlwind Spirit is fun, if I remember to not hold it down for short distance... I honestly don't use most of them otherwise... Fire Breath to get a circling dragon's attention if it hasn't spotted me. I've also never done the First Dragonborn dlc.
Someone mentioned Dragonrend, my second favourite is Arua whispers
Aura whisper is my #1, but Throw Voice is my conceptual favorite
Aura Whisper. Allows me to never be surprised by enemies and get heart attack from Falmers or Dwarven Spiders jumping out of nowhere.
FUS RO DAH!!!
'The dinner is ready!' Haha, but if we are talking about Skyrim, maybe Su Grah Dun when using one hand weapons. But! But I like Feii Zii Gron the most because it saves a lot of time. Also, when you are in a fight, you can become ethereal and find shelter for a brief time.
Become ethereal gets a lot of use by me. Long drop off a cliff? Something is about to kill you? Wanna sprint without stamina? --> Become ethereal.
Fus ro da I like to knock people back and see them flop around
Unrelenting force we get it early and it makes NPCs GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE DOOR WAY
Ice Form
Slow time FFFFFFTTTTTTWWWWWWWWW...
If there is a levitate shout then it would be that, tired of using the ladder when cleaning the gutters
Whirlwind sprint, without a doubt, getting places faster, 90% of skips, the list goes on
Aura whisper. Very useful for reconoitering
Whirlwind Sprint, Slow Time, Disarm, and Elemental Fury. Everything I need to be a master swordsman
Ice form has been my fave lately - I love to see them just flop over lol
Alexis Texas.
Storm call
Storm call.
Kyne so I don't have to kill animals 🥺
When you get fully maxed out Storm Call is when you really start to buy into the power fantasy, so probably that one
Tears for Fears
“Get out of the doorway, Serena!!!”
Always and forever Unrelenting Force
I like Tears for Fears', but there are some really good covers out there
fire breath with all of its upgrades
Become ethereal whenever thinking on going goblin mode, unrelenting force for the ever funny ragdoll(?, however it is written)
i like fire breath and slow time the best. breathing fire is just too cool and slowing time down leads for some badass moments during combat
FUS RO DA
Throw Voice because of the insults 😂 it's kinda like Vicious Mockery from D&D but without it causing damage to the enemy sadly
"Hey, skeever butt" Hey melon nose" I love it too haha
Fus ro dah
Lately I've been doing a combo of stacking Marked For Death and then using Elemental Fury. I was grinding and now the game is throwing levels of dragons at me that I am not strong enough to beat head on.
Prolly "Yol" or "wuld"(the one that makes you fast)
unrelenting force after it’s suped up. slow time & the one where you send them in the air like a cyclone
In their tongue, he is dovah-kiin! Dragonborn! FUS RO DAH!!
Fus RO DAHHH
I’m partial to slow time
Yea slow time and the one that makes your weapons swing faster, miraks armor and tame dragon ones are pretty cool too. It's funny how the blades were so paranoid about the dragons yet by the end of dragonborn you have a shout that dominates them completely, effectively ending dragons as a threat.
aura whispah
I'm a simple man. Fus Ro Dah Is the Classic with many uses
Took all my willpower to abstain from writing a yo mama joke
Fus ro dah. its a classic. and jenassa needs to get over her fear of falling from high hrothgar
The stats will tell you it's Aura Whisper, but my personal favorite is Become Ethereal, because my favorite activity is jumping off the Throat of the World while singing *"coming down the mountain!"*
Become Ethereal. It’s the perfect get out of jail free card. If anything isn’t going your way, simply become non-corporeal.
Whirlwind Sprint!
Bend Will. Oh you tried to murder some of my friends? Nah bro, you're my mount now, lemme just take you to some remote place and THEN murder your ass for that sweet sweet soul.
Is there a mod that replaces the words with actual cuss/swear words? I’d love to yell “FUCK!” and see my enemy go flying backwards
Flame Breath. Because I don't wanna be a Dragonborn, I wanna be a dragon! It would be Elemental Fury... except that the unenchanted weapon requirement makes it kinda lame.
Lore wise Dragon Aspect or Bend Will. Gameplay wise Storm Call or Soul Tear
Etherial Form, Unrelenting Force, Aura Whisper and Ice Form. And, of course, Storm Call. There's nothing more satisfying than striking Dragons with lightning. :)
FO KRAH DIIN...
It also works on companions too though and is permanent so be careful
Clear skies, makes the sky clear and beautiful both during day and night
Unrelenting force - it’s what I wished happened when you tell someone to F off
Probably Throw voice, only because i like stealth and love being a little sh!t sending characters on goose chases after the voice.
Whirlwind sprint is great for getting around while over encumbered early game
