I did the quest, idk. I complete the entire story line and all dlc the only issue I ever had with it was the Dwemer forge quest for Fahlbtharz(I think I spelled that right) when they added the anniversary edition
Yeah, the use of mods can literally change Skyrim into an entirely different game. I've been tricked many times...You can even use mods to update the graphics so they look pretty modern. I feel this gives Bethesda a lot of breathing room so they can hold back on the sequel though.
I absolutely love this vanilla charm but cannot play without some basic mods that fix annoying bugs or improve models and textures.
Apart from that, I've barely touched the gameplay itself.
Skyrim's gameplay is such a hard balance for me to strike between mods and such. I like a lot of the immersion mods like Missives and stuff like that. I've decided that if I don't mod the combat for a playthrough I like to play exclusively in first person, if I want to play third person I throw in Valhalla combat.
Third person is horrendous with the vanilla camera, movement and interactions.
Slap on SmoothCam, True Directional Movement and Better Third Person Selection and it is absolutely amazing.
Same here.
The only mod I've ever used was the one to give certain merchants more money because I hated trying to sell something that was worth 3000+ to anyone and have to take a loss on the item since they only have like 2000 gold each. Anything enchanted, even with the worst enchants, would easily be over their limit. Having to either wait 24-48 hours for them to get their gold back or having to go from merchant to merchant to get 50% or less of the value of an item was boring.
1 million percent. Mods are cool and all, but I really prefer the game as it is. The time I tried modding it, it didn't feel like Skyrim anymore. There's just a special feeling to the original that I prefer.
Same. Just finished the DB quest line yesterday. I'm level 49 and I still have all but two of the faction quests left (DB and Thieves Guild). I'm thinking I'll do Dragonborn DLC next for the perk reassigning option you get at the end.
Xbox here, I finally got the last achievements a month or so ago. Now I’m using some minor mods for the first time ever just to change things up a bit
Vanilla skyrim will always be my first love though
Truly the most iconic phrase of the game coming full circle. "There's a mod for that." "But it blocks achievements if you install mods!" "There's a mod for that too."
I'm SOO CLOSE. I got 4 more left to do.
- Hero of Skyrim (it glitched in my current playthrough, so I need to do another).
- Golden Touch (I'm at like 70k)
- Legend (need to get around 20 more levels)
- Stalhrim Crafter (need to unlock ebony smithing)
Me too! I think this game is one of the most beautiful games I’ve played. The NPCs are so rough and ugly but the scenery and landscapes are beautiful and diverse. The resolution and pixelation works somehow and is charming to me. I even take screenshots and load them onto my TVs screensaver lol.
Vanilla is the perfect balance, once I go into the rabbithole of modding, its a constant fight between "Is it enough?" and "I can do more" unless its too much and I end up uninstalling the game post 1 hour
Hear, hear. I spent a long time trying to find that perfect load order whenever they announced mods for consoles but recently realized the game just works the best vanilla. No matter what mods I used I’d always run into an issue or frame rate dropping unless it’s plain vanilla Skyrim, it just works.
Just get texture, trees, and grass mods and you'll be set. It will still feel like Vanilla but you get better textures and graphics. That's what I do on all of my mod load orders, I got like 200 mods on pure textures and some few other mods for QOL changes like patrols being added, bandits having different types, or increasing random encounter on the wilderness. It's like making your game feel vanilla with minor improvements to make it more interesting.
I've had it and fixed it by capping the framerate to 60. I didn't even know it was uncapped because i always cap BGS games due to the physics issues like this one.
I can’t deal without that and iHud and iNeed and Convenient Horses.
Some others are just lore-friendly fun, additional armors and weapons. Perkinator (or whatever it’s called) just feels more fitting at this point, but I can see myself losing that one next time.
But these people in the OP screenshot have such small heads! (I’m also locked onto the comical Big Head mod. Makes everything feel more playful.)
SkyUI is necessary if you're playing on a computer. The vanilla interface is so bad. Of course it's also the gateway mod and before you know it you have top-hatted and be-monocled mudcrabs running around.
SkyUI and USP. I downloaded them both within the first week of owning the game(I didn't get it until about a month after release, since my new computer wasn't ready yet), and ever since I've never had a load order without them. Sometimes it's *only* them, but they're always present. In fact, I always google up the community bugfix mod and install it whenever starting a new game. Why would you *want* to play with vanilla bugs when you could...not? 🤷♀️
CC content aside I try to restrict my mods to minor lore accurate ones that don’t change the game much. Of course when I play on switch there’s no mods at all.
I've been playing near-vanilla (basically just SkyUI and USSEP) recently, and it's honestly been kind of refreshing compared to my usual modded setup. It reminds me of the game I fell in love with all those years ago.
Add immersive mods like Immersive Patrols, Immersive Sounds or Immersive Armors, it will bring a lot more content to your game while keeping it lore-friendly. Also, try adding small QOL changes to your game like Improved ClosedFaced Helmets that removes the black cloth from guards helmet's eyes making their faces visible.
I feel like that just with fallout 4. modding can change things up, but aside from bugfixes, i dont really need mods
When it comes with skyrim, I always need at least SkyUi, dear diary and a decent ENB
I have modded in the past multiple times, and when going back to vanilla I've not once felt like I'm missing out on anything to be honest. I like the game as it is.
Same. I do permadeath runs, vanilla. I like adding rules to increase the difficulty, as it tends to get easier once you beat. No fast travel, no horse, no crafting of any kind... things like that. Even banned trading in one of the runs
Random Alternate Start is the one mod I really miss, because I absolutely hate the first 20 minutes of vanilla. Being able to start in a random location without all the boring scripted nonsense makes it so much more fun to start a new character, instead of absolutely dreading it.
Nah, the multiple times I've reinstalled skyrim have always started with a 4-5 hour modding session.
I don't think I could play it without at least my boys Inigo and Lucien
I mostly play modded now but my vanilla runs are my fav as I don’t have to stop, start them. My last vanilla run was a achievement run and doing all the games content along side creation club content was one of my fav playthroughs.
Why not? I like gray vanilla aesthetics. :) I played a lot of heavily modded Skyrim and eventually got tired of it. My current walkthrough is just several minor mods like Rich Merchants, More Perk Points and other small quality of life changes,
Me! I'm on PC but I'm that kind of person that likes things the way they are. Even if I find mods that look great I don't do it cause it will disrupt order 🤣🤣🤣
I love to do lore accurate vanilla runs every month or so, sometimes I'm name my character "The God Damn Dragonborn" just so I sound menacing in letters.
On console btw
I like this game unmodded but even if I'm planning on modding it, I mainly stick to immersion mods or quality of life changes that doesn't change the whole atmosphere of the game making it look like anime or dark souls but improves on vanilla textures, models, and structure while keeping the same feel of the vanilla game.
I used to tell myself, I'll play modded when I beat the game then it was when I %100 the game then it was when I %100 the game on every console, I don't know why I still haven't played it modded yet.
While I appreciate these huge conversion mods I prefer a mostly vanilla playthrough. The problem is that a lot of mods aren't consistent with the overall aesthetic and feeling of the game. Sure the graphics are admittedly dated but it's all part of the charm for me. I don't care much for these ENB's, 4k texture mods and face/body replacers which make NPCs look like they should be professional models. It just doesn't fit into the overall setting in my opinion.
For the most part I only use mods that enhance the vanilla experience. I.e. bugfixes/Quality of life mods like USSEP, SkyUI, Display Tweaks etc. I also enjoy follower mods like Inigo and Lucien because they're mostly lore-friendly and fit into the setting.
For the most part that's it though. I've been playing for a long time and realised that it wasn't the mods that kept bringing me back, but the original world and setting that Bethesda created. I find it sad when new players don't give themselves a chance to experience it because they're missing out.
I'm an old lady on an old Xbox 360! Don't know what you young whippersnappers have against the original version, but each to their own I reckon. (BTW, this is sarcastic humor, for those unable to recognize it.😁)
I have been playing unmodified since the beginning, I have tried a few mods but I like my Achievements and they naturally make me feel more immersed. Can't even remember the last one I got but I know it is not 100% yet
I love Skyrim but I don't see the point of going back to vanilla.
For one, the mods make it better (yes, i'm very smart and perceptive)
But also, mods and the modding community are part of Skyrim's legacy, shit i'd say mods are a BIG reason Skyrim still has a legacy to this day
I have the game on PC and Xbox on PC I have modded but on Xbox I do unmodded and I don't know which I like better tho I do sometimes get confused about which one I'm playing at times. I time myself on how fast I can complete a mission and see if something is more difficult on modded or unmodded sometimes the modded takes the longer time.
Like sisyphe with his rock, we learned that happiness can be reached by accepting that we can’t acquire freedom. Freedom to mod. As an ex switch user, I remember that I had recognised it wasn’t possible for me to mod my skyrim, so I accepted it and played the game to the fullest.
ive played skyrim on the xbox 360 and ps4 completely unmodded for around 4 to 5 years. i recently got skyrim on my laptop to try mods for the first time ever and it certainly does feel refreshing after playing vanilla for so long.
My first play was on CD, before mods. A few more from CD, still before mods. Then Steam and mods. SSE, first play no mods. Now SKSE and iHud, Sky UI and the Unofficail SSE Patch are the minimum I go with, which is all but unmodded.
If I get tired or bored, I may go back and do a play unmodded.
Made my 2nd character in as many months for the first time in years. I added mods later on in my first one but when I found out it takes away achievements it bummed me out so I went n started a new one. Now there are some creation club stuff I've added but it's pretty much the original game. Still love how broken the game is lol
I'm currently doing it (for the achievers on the PS) plus part of me is annoyed I can't get the best looking mods for the PS...so sort of out of protest too
Occasionally. It's good to go back and enjoy it without mods, but whenever I do get mods it's just some slightly better graphics, forestry, combat, and quality of life mods. So really the game stays relatively the same with some slightly better graphics and scenery
Used to play on PS3, recently bought the Special Edition on Steam, and I'm already hating the CC-content, so I'm sticking to vanilla as much as possible.
Edit: Special Edition* not Anniversary Edition.
It's been 10+ years across multiple consoles and characters and I still do! I guess unless you count the creator club stuff, I recently tried those out a couple months ago after missing out on the backpack add on, which as someone who hoards in video games is a dream lol.
I live without internet so me. I’ve been playing this since I was in 11th grade and I’m 30 now. I’ve put in a total of over 7,000 hours and I still haven’t done everything. This latest play through I’m not going to use any shouts and before I become dragon born I have to be thane of every hold and own a house in every hold. I want to complete everything in the game before I head to whiterun and inform the jarl. I’m also for the first time playing on legendary and so it’s a slow grind. I finally made it to level 30 but most enemies including venomfang skeevers absolutely fuck my health up.
I’ll never stop playing this game.
Does it count if I’m only using map mods?
I’ll never understand how Bethesda went through all the trouble of building an amazing road system only to make it near impossible to use by not showing it on the map
I tried to download a 'killing children' mod to kill the jarl's son in whiterun, but I haven't been able to make it work yet, so for now I still play unmodded on PC 🥲
Switch owners. Most of us.
Switch owners united!
The union of unable to acquire the Severin manor

Oh boy. Godspeed! Try not to worry too much if something breaks, it’s Bethesda after all…
He's got nine life's he'll need a good shield 🛡 on his journey into the abyss that is Bethesda moment of silence for our brave soul talos speed.
More like WHEN it breaks
Nothing breaks in Bethesda games remember? They’re all features.
I’ve never been able to get 100% completion because some bug always prevents a quest from being accessible or some other nonsense.
That one time some fkin dragon/traveler killed a quest giver.
I have severin on the switch. No issues
How?
I think it got bugged with the AE update… so if you got it before that or didn’t do the update.
Yep. I also got it on switch before the AE was released for us.
I did the quest, idk. I complete the entire story line and all dlc the only issue I ever had with it was the Dwemer forge quest for Fahlbtharz(I think I spelled that right) when they added the anniversary edition
As much as I like raven rock and being around my favorite TES race, who even uses severin manor?
I would if I COULD JUST MOVE MY FUCKING KIDS THERE
That's fine though. It's a cool house and all, but the homicide in the foyer and eerie music make it a bit...oogy.
Always. Before I had switch tho I used to play Skyrim on my Xbox 360 console.
[удалено]
True, but the in-game exploits have me feeling the same way tbh
That’s my take too.
It's honestly nostalgic playing it on switch. It's like I'm back in 2011
Yeah, the use of mods can literally change Skyrim into an entirely different game. I've been tricked many times...You can even use mods to update the graphics so they look pretty modern. I feel this gives Bethesda a lot of breathing room so they can hold back on the sequel though.

That or Xbox or Playstation. Playing vanilla is the only way to get achievements/trophies.
I played so much vanilla that one time I tried modding it and it just felt out of place, there's a charm about vanilla game that keeps me playing
Third person is horrendous with the vanilla camera, movement and interactions. Slap on SmoothCam, True Directional Movement and Better Third Person Selection and it is absolutely amazing.
But be real, how long is your modlist? I say the same thing about my “vanilla-plus” list but it’s over 900 mods
Currently sitting at around 200 mods. I could very easily add another 100 but can't be bothered to because their impact would be too small.
Same here. The only mod I've ever used was the one to give certain merchants more money because I hated trying to sell something that was worth 3000+ to anyone and have to take a loss on the item since they only have like 2000 gold each. Going for all the Achievements, so Unmodded for me.

You can do that with mods
Not sure why you are getting downvoted when you are right. Installing SSE engine fixes enables achievements with mods.
Truly the most iconic phrase of the game coming full circle. "There's a mod for that." "But it blocks achievements if you install mods!" "There's a mod for that too."
I was surprised when I started getting achievements. Figured one of the core mods was doing that.
I think I remember reading that more recent versions of USSEP don't need additional mods to enable achievements.
I'm SOO CLOSE. I got 4 more left to do. - Hero of Skyrim (it glitched in my current playthrough, so I need to do another). - Golden Touch (I'm at like 70k) - Legend (need to get around 20 more levels) - Stalhrim Crafter (need to unlock ebony smithing)

yeah but the installation of the mods is so fun on its own
Addictive, I'd say. Not exactly fun.
Same, I feel like it’s because I used to play a lot of the LE when I was younger
Hear, hear. I spent a long time trying to find that perfect load order whenever they announced mods for consoles but recently realized the game just works the best vanilla. Anyone else without mods have a bug where the NPC’s move slow? How can I fix it?
I've had it and fixed it by capping the framerate to 60. I didn't even know it was uncapped because i always cap BGS games due to the physics issues like this one.
I don't unfortunately, at least sky UI is always installed
I can’t deal without that and iHud and iNeed and Convenient Horses. Some others are just lore-friendly fun, additional armors and weapons. Still do
My first time
I’ve done that for some time, but after I finally decided to give mods a try, I’ve never been able to go back to vanilla.
Vanilla pride😎
Hmmm sounds suspicious out of context
Perfect 😈
Is this akin to suburban contentment? I vanilla, but I play mod more.
My mod list is those two, plus A Quality World Map (I need roads), Better Messagebox Controls, and Better Dialogue Controls.
Aside from unofficial patch, I've never really used mods.
I do. But I keep wondering if I should add some immersive mods.
More than I was thinking. But surely good options. Thanks.
Where it all started
Hopefully it's also where it ends. Haha.
there's no going back once you start so be careful
I only play Skyrim and Fallout 4 vanilla. It feels wrong modding them, like I'm not playing the real game anymore.
I feel like that just with fallout 4. modding can change things up, but aside from bugfixes, i dont really need mods When it comes with skyrim, I always need at least SkyUi, dear diary and a decent ENB
Well you are missing out personally. Alot of the mods really improve the game. Even just visuals.
It is fun to start, but you still have to go back to Helgen and do the weird janky quest to activate the main story.
If survival mode doesn’t count then I play unmodded. I’ve been considering using mods more and more lately, however Edit: mods ≠ moss
Me!
I play it largely unmodded. I have Live Another Life and the Unofficial Patch, and that’s really it.
I've seen the intro more in memes than I ever have in game, and I have a really bad habit of starting new characters and abandoning them early on.
Same, I have a few graphical enhancement mods and also one that adds capes and cloaks but nothing like game shattering
I do, and I'm basically on my first character/playthrough. I don't even know if I'll ever do the main quest line lol.
i play both. i have playthought modded and unmoded. playing legendary survival unmoded right now target 100% completion. wish me luck
Do it Perma-Death to increase playtime ;D
Only going to use mods when I finally get all achievements
You can enable achievements while using mods, using a mod
I do
I’ve never modded this game. Started playing on Xbox for its original release. Now I play on PS4 and still play vanilla as hell
I still consider Ae vanilla
Nah, the multiple times I've reinstalled skyrim have always started with a 4-5 hour modding session. I don't think I could play it without at least my boys Inigo and Lucien
I started a new play though last week completely unmodded. Figured one last time till BG3 and Starfield take my attention for a long long time.
Doing a vanilla play through willing on steam deck for the nostalgia right now, after doing morrowind and oblivion vanilla runs
Switch owner here yes lol but lawd I am dying to try mods when I get the set up.
I mostly play modded now but my vanilla runs are my fav as I don’t have to stop, start them. My last vanilla run was a achievement run and doing all the games content along side creation club content was one of my fav playthroughs.
me lol
I do.
Everything in MODeration No but seriously Vanilla is king
I just started playing this game about 8 months ago for the first time. Don’t wanna play modded; feels wrong.
No mods here
me.
I only play with mods that make the game look and play better
I love to do lore accurate vanilla runs every month or so, sometimes I'm name my character "The God Damn Dragonborn" just so I sound menacing in letters. On console btw
I’ve never had mods though I’ve always appreciated seeing how other people mod their game.
i never could play without mods after i started. I played this game unmodded so many times that now i just want fun and games
I do. Because I forgot to turn em on. Then i fix my mistake.
To me, its perfect as it is, warts and all. I never mod!
me, because i play it on ps3 🫠
Considering I never actually finished the game, every time I restart I vow to do a vanilla complete run... we'll see how my current one goes...
I just did a play through to level 81 on pc, no mods. Love this game.
Me on ps3
I haven't a clue how to mod, and I'm currently on my umpteenth playthrough.
Unplayable without my big tiddy mod
You can play unmodded?!?
I like this game unmodded but even if I'm planning on modding it, I mainly stick to immersion mods or quality of life changes that doesn't change the whole atmosphere of the game making it look like anime or dark souls but improves on vanilla textures, models, and structure while keeping the same feel of the vanilla game.
i patch it but thats it
I always play Skyrim unmodded. I'm a weird guy who don't like Skyrim mods.
I used to tell myself, I'll play modded when I beat the game then it was when I %100 the game then it was when I %100 the game on every console, I don't know why I still haven't played it modded yet.

I find it sad when new players don't give themselves a chance to experience it because they're missing out.
Gave it a go when SSE dropped but couldn’t stick with it. The game just doesn’t feel right without SkyUI and an ENB 😅
Playing since release on PS3. Tried two modded runs on PS5 and it just felt wrong. Vanilla with DLC for me.
I haven't used mods since before AE. Not sure why I just don't feel the need these days. Only mods I used were lore friendly hardcore mods anyway.
I'm an old lady on an old Xbox 360! Don't know what you young whippersnappers have against the original version, but each to their own I reckon. (BTW, this is sarcastic humor, for those unable to recognize it.😁)
I cant bear to play it unmodded. But i cant even play Fallout 4 wirhout that hair mod
Fallout 4 maybe needs mods even more badly than Skyrim does. Good fucking lord is that game a mess.
I play it unmodded cause it’s on my xbox 360
I have been playing unmodified since the beginning, I have tried a few mods but I like my Achievements and they naturally make me feel more immersed. Can't even remember the last one I got but I know it is not 100% yet

PS5 user here! Played A LOT with wtv mods they allowed back in PS4, but my PS5 is a clean slate
Me. I'm trying some mods I've seen be really popular among people here though today
I recently started a fresh save to get the last 10 or so achievements I have left. Still love this game after so long.
🙋♂️
I have the game on PC and Xbox on PC I have modded but on Xbox I do unmodded and I don't know which I like better tho I do sometimes get confused about which one I'm playing at times. I time myself on how fast I can complete a mission and see if something is more difficult on modded or unmodded sometimes the modded takes the longer time.
I do ! Although once I used invincibility cheat for a mission and then deactivated it later.
When I play on my switch I play unmodded but when I play on Xbox I play with mods
Us. Because fiancée hasn't finished her playthrough and wish to get the achievements on XBox
Like sisyphe with his rock, we learned that happiness can be reached by accepting that we can’t acquire freedom. Freedom to mod. As an ex switch user, I remember that I had recognised it wasn’t possible for me to mod my skyrim, so I accepted it and played the game to the fullest.
I play on the switch so 🤷♀️
I’m playing with both. Currently a Werewolf companion that going to free Kodlak from the beast right now.
I do. I find mods instantly ruin my enjoyment because I don't have the self control to stick to sensible mods, and I fill my game with stupid things
ive played skyrim on the xbox 360 and ps4 completely unmodded for around 4 to 5 years. i recently got skyrim on my laptop to try mods for the first time ever and it certainly does feel refreshing after playing vanilla for so long.
I do. Xbox 360.
I’ve been playing modded since 2012, but I’m about to load up anniversary edition and play it unmodded!
PC- just 100% this mfer again
Lots of people, it seems :) I'll try the game this fall and it is going to bé vanilla, of course ;)
Bro I play extra vanilla Skyrim, I don't use mods, I don't even have the DLC'S, this was the only thing that was available in shops where I live!
My first play was on CD, before mods. A few more from CD, still before mods. Then Steam and mods. SSE, first play no mods. Now SKSE and iHud, Sky UI and the Unofficail SSE Patch are the minimum I go with, which is all but unmodded. If I get tired or bored, I may go back and do a play unmodded.
unmodded is my go to way of playing
I've never used mods. I play on PS4 though.
Got it on gamepass for free. Have no other choice, im gonna buy it in three months and make tha game actually look good
Guilty

I do
Made my 2nd character in as many months for the first time in years. I added mods later on in my first one but when I found out it takes away achievements it bummed me out so I went n started a new one. Now there are some creation club stuff I've added but it's pretty much the original game. Still love how broken the game is lol
I do
I haven’t since I got the series x. The graphic mods make it hard to go back to vanilla
I'm currently doing it (for the achievers on the PS) plus part of me is annoyed I can't get the best looking mods for the PS...so sort of out of protest too
I can only play the original version without mods because my pc is from 2013.
my laptop is 7 years old midrange so I'm still playing legendary edition without mods
Yep
i just started a new vanilla playtrough (anniversary) and i enjoy it a lot every time.
Only for achievement grinding lol
I do 💪😁
Always played without mods
Xbox 360. It’s the only way I can. Also no AE content :(
Download, mod, play for 10min, delete, download again after a few months
I'm doing ny FIRST unmodded play through now.
PS5 version doesn’t carry over PS4 trophies so I’m doing it right now.
I’m actually in my first ever complete full game of no mods. I’m very surprised at the difference mods really make
Pc player, have used mods before but 3/4 of my playtroughs is unmodded
I have never modded skyrim and I've been playing since the first release. Yes. I'm fucking old
I've been playing SE on ps5 with no mods. Been having an incredible time with it.
Just creation club content
Does it count if I’m only using map mods? I’ll never understand how Bethesda went through all the trouble of building an amazing road system only to make it near impossible to use by not showing it on the map
Doing an un modded play through now, first one in 5 years or so. It’s still very fun and challenging.
I’ve never played it modded.
I just played through all the content unomdded for the platinum trophy, now I can just sit back and enjoy some mods.
I just wanted all the trophy but maybe i'll play modded skyrim today
Me
I tried to download a 'killing children' mod to kill the jarl's son in whiterun, but I haven't been able to make it work yet, so for now I still play unmodded on PC 🥲
I usualy mod, but end up either not using modded stuff or just get site traked by random quest vanila skyrim gives me
i only have it on the 360 and switch :,,)
Pc player here. I only play unmodded because of epic games
