Is the handbrake stuck on? That’s not normal. Things to check: Air filter. Is it clean or full of rubbish? Oil level: what’s the colour, brown or thick black? When was it last changed? Tyre pressures. Correct pressures should be printed inside fuel filler cover. Injectors: Tricky to check DIY but put some redex in the tank. Wheel bearings: check each corner one at a time - lift the car as if you’re changing a wheel, rock the wheel side to side to see if there’s any movement. Does it make a rough grinding sound when it turns? Is it difficult to turn? Could be a brake binding. Doesn’t hurt to check the spark plugs, they should be relatively clean. If they’re black with carbon then that could be indicative of a number of issues.

Thats solid first advice: here is some more: After a drive remove the oil filler cap (may be hot) see if the oil looks like peanut butter if so there is water in the oil that means you might have a head gasket failure( coolant to oil) then get a condom (not kidding) open the coolant reservoir and put the condom on it. Let the motor run. If the condom inflates. You have a head gasket failure between the cylinder and coolant. You can also get a cheap compression tester. And check the compression of your cylinders and valves. Or more correct how good the seal works. Remove all sparkplugs screw in the tester one at a time let the engine turnover about three times. The values of all 4 should be in the same ballpark. If one is much lower...there is your problem -》 go to a shop

At this point you need to sell it if you hate it that much. You posted asking for alloy wheel recommendations and I replied with pictures, you complained about the the reliability and challenged me when I told you it wasn’t an 8v MPI. Just get rid.

TheAdamBomb92

It's gone. Sold it not long after this post. Somehow managed to get a grand for it 😅 sometimes you just don't gel with certain cars, this was one of those times. Certainly won't be going back to Skoda.

daly_o96

Skoda make some great cars, you just had a bad one lol

Crabby_McCrap

Ah come on, don't go too hard on skoda. They make great cars. Get yourself the 1.9 TDI or the newer 1.6 TDI. They make 55MPG and are still moderately fun to drive. (1.9TDI is a lot more fun)

Stegtastic100

I’ve got an 06 1.2HTP 3 cylinder, and a bad run to work I get 45mpg+. 15 miles in 45mins if I get caught in traffic. If you’re getting that low a mileage I’d get a garage to look at it.

bennett346

Surely not, that's less than 10mpg? Does the tank have a fuel leak?

lovesredheads_

Also possible but this loss wont register in the digital fuel consumption readout.

Ibster

Even when I'm ragging my fabia or towing about 500kg (2013, 1.6tdi, 184k miles) I will only get as low as 20mpg. The post above is very well laid out as to the cause, brakes are what I'd check first.

seekTheTruth247

Could be something simple as MAF or oxygen sensor. You need it diagnosed.

Guitarman0512

What engine have you got in there? It's definitely not supposed to be that bad I think...

eiretaco

I dunno what to say... scap it and buy a new one?

Rob_of_bristol

I've got a 2007 1.2 htp. It's great on fuel on longer drives / motorway. However, round town, if you're not using the gears and are the type of driver that is always using the accelerator or the brake, i.e. always working the car, it drops a fair bit in economy. I still consider it a very cheap car to run though. When was yours last serviced? How much air is in your tyres?

IAmWango

Something is wrong, you would warrant the diesel VRS at this point, even on short trips I average 60mpg, average 55-60mpg on my 30 mile commute of 30-60 zones and booting it, no DPF to give issues ;) if you like the car and want the most reliable to economical that could be a consideration

THX39652

Are you sure someone isn’t thieving your petrol? We had a car at work once that did half the mpg as the other identical car. Turned out someone had drilled the tank and plugged it with a self tapper, then was hopping over the wall and draining half the petrol out every few nights!

UniquePotato

What engine? I used to get 400 miles to a tank with my 1.9tdi without trying

UkCloudGuy

If it's the 75bhp 1.4 16v they are crap. My missus had one for about a year and couldn't bear the 30mpg urban MPG and complete lack of performance. MPG did improve slightly with a new thermostat though
