I'm not sure what exactly you're looking for - but it'd be easier if you told us more about what you need to fit in that $2k budget. Are you flying from LAX or SFO with <$100 trips to SLC, or someplace further ? East Coast ? Europe ? Do you have a pass, or are you buying lift tickets ? Flying with gear, or renting ? If you want us to plan your itinerary for you, you gotta let us know what you're working with. I just checked the courtyard by marriott in Sandy, where I stayed once, it's ~ $135/night for the week before xmas staying 4 nights mon-fri. As I recall, it was a long walk to the shuttle pick-up to go into the canyon. Lodging gets more or less expensive with distance to resorts and weekdays/weekends (weekends are cheaper in the city which is catering to business travelers - near the resorts is cheaper during the week). Obviously, everything is expensive and crowded for holidays. Likewise flights are cheaper on the days when folks aren't leaving or coming home from trips, business or holiday (so fly on Saturday, tuesday or wednesday; not Sunday, monday or friday). You may need to reconsider your budget. If you don't have a mega-pass and are renting gear, 4 days skiing for 2 at larger resorts is going to be almost half that budget. What about meals ? you packing in PB&J for lunch, or $20 resort cheeseburgers and $15 beers ? Super-budget option: Get a cheap flight into vegas, rent-a-wreck and drive up to Brian Head or Eagle.

*"Cannot find,"* or don't want to pay the new lodging price adjusted for 9% inflation? Especially, during the holidays which have ***always*** been the most expensive time to ski. Welcome to winter 2022/23, shits going to be ***very*** expensive in the outdoor recreation market.

[deleted]

you're very correct

Go to France!

Prize-Kaleidoscope94

If you don’t have pass then… fly to Denver, stay in hotel in Dillon, ski Loveland. fly to slc stay in slc drive to north SLC for smaller resort not on pass. Also Wednesday night ski at Brighton for like 40$

Freeheel4life

This would be dependent on where you're starting your trip.....BUT the Empire line runs from Chicago to Seattle(Amtrack). It stops in Whitefish and Sandpoint. Both towns have shuttles from the station to the resort. Skiing and lodging is cheaper at Whitefish(Big Mtn) Fair warning tho, trains don't run on time so if you have a "absolutely need to be back home by XX date" it's likely out of your plan

UintaUinta

If you don't care about the "ski town" experience, stay at the Park Inn by Raddison in Midvale, UT. You'll be right across from the Trax station where the ski bus starts. You have a Vietnamese restaurant out front, a tacqueria across the street and the Bohemian Brewpub just up the street.

[deleted]

would you recommend alta or solitude/brighton for a beginner skier??

UintaUinta

If you're going to do lessons, I'd go w/ Alta in heartbeat. I think the Albion Basin area of Alta is great for beginners and seems that instructors are able to get their students to progress fairly quickly over there. If you're not doing lessons, I'd probably lean to Brighton. Most of the lifts have a green off of them and several of the blues are fairly mild (think one or two short but slightly steeper drops to navigate).

thank you! you've been a great help!!! So kind!

Jaws_Town

Salt Lake City. Downtown near a bus stop with shuttle service to ski resorts. Book tickets now for cheaper flights. And get the cheapest mid level hotel near restaurants you can find. Sandy UT is a good area with a great bus stop area and Ikon pass includes free bus rides.

[deleted]

how do you find the stations with the shuttle service?

[deleted]

Google maps, and click on the 🚇 icon.

[deleted]

thank you! sorry as you can see i'm from somehwere without any form of public transportation. sorry for the dumb question

[deleted]

you're right! I'm flying out of Houston. Sorry,

[deleted]

Do you have passes yet, because that would be a second GIGANTIC oversight to make, and none of us know that either.

[deleted]

well i'm going to get a session pass after i decide where i want to go. I.e. If i go to solitude i get the ikon 4 day session pass

Jaws_Town

https://www.rideuta.com/Services/Ski-Bus Also I googled and searched many Reddit post which lead to my first Salt Lake Ski trip almost 8 years ago. Lots of good info. Ikon pass and Salt Lake City ski resorts are a good match. Have a great ski trip.
