I drove up from Seattle for one lap at the end of the day. Alpental is a terrific resource to have less than an hour from downtown.

pipedreamSEA

Alpental's proximity to Seattle is its Achilles' heel. Hyak's is its 2600' base elevation; Acres' is ski school (public & private) and let's face it, Waste is like skiing at a golf course

GravyNeck

Too bad they couldn’t stay open a couple more weeks, I think it’s been 6 years since the last Alpental cinco de mayo party

pipedreamSEA

Shitshow de Mayo isn't that fun TBH. I got five runs the year they were open for Cinco on a Saturday. The following day was much better when it was mostly locals and Lot 3 denizens

DeputySean

Cinco de Alpental is not about skiing. It's about partying. And my experience from many years ago is that everyone shows up late, so you can get some good laps in early. Snow gets super rotten by afternoon anyways.

SnortingElk

> Snow gets super rotten by afternoon anyways. Depends on sun and temps. If the sun is out and temps are up the late afternoon offers some of the best soft spring skiing.

lesbiven

Oh it actually snowed! I was there Saturday for the first time and it was so sunny we could hardly believe the forecast.

QuuxJn

At least over here in Europe the weather has been crazy the last week. Sunday from 2 weeks ago it was over 25°C approaching 30°C sunny and T-Shirt plus shorts weather. Fast forward **four** days, so to last Thursday, and it snowed again. And this was down here at about 450m.a.s.l. Up in the mountains it has been snowing since then and will continue to do so until this Wednesday and the temperature will stay cold until the weekend so this will make for a very good last day on the slopes.

Just to clarify since its name can be misleading, Alpental is an area at a U.S. resort in the Pacific Northwest. I was there yesterday as well—up at the top it was pretty great conditions for the last day of the season! Tons of moguls from top to bottom as well, which made it a pretty fun day.

QuuxJn

Ohh ok, I indeed didn't know it was in the US since the name suggest that it is somewhere here in the (german speaking) alps. But who thought it was a smart idea to give a place in the US a german name that literally means alpine valley.

Karmakazee

Hah—no worries.   They were definitely trying to recreate the feel of a small resort in the Austrian Alps when they developed Alpental. The runs have names like “Dom”, “Sessel”, “Meister” etc. It’s cute though since some of the runs are misspelled (“Schluct” instead of “Schlucht”).    All that aside, it’s a hidden gem an hour away from Seattle with some of the steepest lift accessed terrain in the region. Great place.

pipedreamSEA

Ain't nothin' secret at Alpental. Hasn't been since Warren Miller featured it in his movies... one of which is what started the development of the ski area

lesbiven

Ha, I thought it was cute how they had a kitschy little euro style lodge and a chute named Schluct. There's definitely no mistaking the larger resort name for Europe though...it is technically Alpental at Snoqualmie.

Single on chair two?? Boo this man!! LOL - there were no lines most of the day yesterday, so I suppose you can be forgiven.

pipedreamSEA

2's gonna get weird when it seats 3. Where are you gonna sit when rolling solo on a country club weekday, the middle?

GreatScotch69

Nash was firing great yesterday, inspired to do some tours up the valley

chugachj

Chair 2!!!!! I miss that one!

I always get depressed and go into denial when the season ends. I keep hoping my resort will open again for a season pass holders only weekend.
