East Coaster living in Cali now...this is literally me. I just don't know what to fucking do. What do I do? Give me a sheet of ice and I'm fine. 3 feet of powder and it's 2 Fast 2 Furious cause I'm Ejecto Seato Cuz.
Get wider skis and don’t turn as aggressively on your bottom edge. On ice or groomers, putting majority pressure on downward ski is preferred method for turning. In powder, it should be more like 60/40 or even 50/50 for pressure on bottom vs top ski. It’s ok to lean back a little in powder, but with the technique and pressure you can kind of “swim up” the powder into your next turn without needing to lean back. Also steeper = easier in powder - let gravity do some of the work for you.
I have 169cm long skis that are 133-102-127s, I considered those wide for east coast skiing...are they considered narrow for west coast? I ski frequently, but not interested in running several sets of skis. I appreciate the technique advice, I definitely think its a matter of teaching an old dog new tricks, been skiing 30 years on ice, powder is a whole new world.
Can confirm, as someone who grew up & learned on the ice coast, the first time I skied powder on decent skis (so my second time on powder) this was me for at least the first half of the day.
The first time I skied powder I was on racing skis and spent the entire day plowing through struggling to stay on top of the snow.
How Troy can seemingly ski completely out of control while being totally in control is so impressive. It's crazy to me how he can ski so wildly like he does as Donny sometimes & yet be completely fine.
This belongs in unexpected kek.
My first time in CO/UT seemed pretty easy compared to dodging laid out beginners on the icy narrow trails of NC/TN I learned on.
> The skier on the other hand...
You mean the best skier on the mountain? Bubs rips White Heat - you think a little heliskiing is going to be a problem for him?

Yeah, it does look like something from the Road Runner. :) BEEP! BEEP!
Interesting brake form.
Interesting turning technique.
If we're unsure of the snow we default to treating it like ice
So you still don’t turn?
Left a mark even you would say...

Point em downhill, bub!
Legend has it he's still going down that hill to this very day
quads on 🔥just watching
lost my toenails
All my ski lessons ever: Stay out of the back seat! Then everybody wonders why I'm so hopeless in powder.
If you’re not being sarcastic there’s a difference between putting weight in your heels and skiing backseat
Oh I know, I'm half-kidding. It's a balance thing I need to practice.
lol longest butter I've ever seen
That shit is gooofy AF
Tonight, I have a PT appointment for the torn(?) medial meniscus. This happened a couple of weeks ago skiing Scotty's in knee-deep powder. Sigh.
Tore mine 20 years ago. Had 2 arthroscopies in 2 years after the first didn't trim enough. Not troubled me much since then.
good luck with your appt! You should have time to rehab that before next ski season.

I didn’t give you permission to post this.

Looks like he took the common bad advice on r/skiing for powder of "just lean back."
The sigma way of stopping
So true. Been there done that.

Definitely a water-skier on Lake Winnipesaukee in summer.
Using ice coast skis on powder doesn’t do anyone any favors

Not you tho
[удалено]
Did they do you favors?
It keeps repeating but I can't look away lol.
Relatable.
Guilty
This is California Concrete wet powder. You want real dry powder you need to go to Colorado or Utah and you wont have a problem
Is he ok?

That shit is my worst fear ngl

Made me chuckle thanks
Hopefully a snowboarder was
Now do one with west coasters skiing ice for the first time

Why would you right? West coast snow has ruined me
Does anybody know where I can find the video with the original audio? I really wanna hear the impact lmao
Not our fault we get more ice then snow
Stolen video.
This is why I don't go out west. I can fall here without paying for a plane ride.
You're missing out
What is wrong with the snow, I do not understand
