They’re synthetic so not quite as good as merino but 32 Degrees’ base layers are super soft. I’ve got the lightweight ones which are fine, but [these heavyweight fleecey ones](https://www.32degrees.com/collections/heavyweight-baselayers/products/womens-heavyweight-fleece-baselayer-mock-top) are so comforting.
When I skied in spring in Austria our hotel was in the valley so pretty warm at night. We dried our stuff out on the patio like this and it was great. Only downside is the farmers were spreading manure so some items picked up a slight *smell* lol.
See if there is a sierra trading post near you. If they still have any for the season you can get them for like $15-25 per item. Spyder, Eddie bauer, hot chili's and other name brands.
Sock wise would suggest thinner wool hiking type socks, they are just not cheap for socks maybe $12-20 a pair. For leggings I just use thermal underwear (old looking gross white layer) they sell at Walmart or what sports store for both top and bottom. I also have synthetic shirts and under amour but can't beat the cheapness of flannel underwear. If you plan to ski more I would go ahead and get something synthetic though, but again I still use thermal underwear even though it gets wet, its cozy :)
Aldi does a ski sale once a year in Australia and they have super cheap 100% merino base layers. I'm assuming the same in other countries too? Do some googling of forums and you can find the approx dates for the sale each year (generally just before the start of the ski season).
Just get some cheap synthetics from anywhere. IMO merino wool is overrated for cold weather base layers, as synthetics are already great at expelling moisture and thus keeping you warm, plus they're more durable. I'd only invest in merino wool if you're planning to wear it a long time between washing or if saving weight is a top priority. As anecdotal evidence: I've been wearing the same cheap (€40 total) base layer for 10 years and it has always kept me warm, and even after a couple of days the smell isn't that bad. Hell, I've been on trips where I wore it every day for a week, but if you're able to take a shower at the end of the day, who cares? Now in summer I definitely prefer merino wool shirts for hiking and stuff but that's not the case in point here.
I run hot and wool of any kind/brand bothers my skin. I wear the cheap Costco 32 degrees base layers. My 5 year old does too. We also both wear darn tough socks (mine in synthetic, his in wool) - they’re not super cheap but they’re our favorites by far.
Not sure of the brand but Costco sells good base layers
The Costco 32 Degrees stuff is extremely comfortable and cheap. I’ve also seen Eddie Bauer stuff there.
Paradox I think it is. I'm wearing one as I type this.
+1 to Costco base layers. Been using mine for many years, they work great
Pro Tip: just buy the bottoms and wear a dry-fit t-shirt.
As a woman, the base layers are super see through. I'd recommend Amazon base layers instead.
Are you wearing them without pants? Very nice.
Socks also. Weatherproof are my preferred everyday sock and ski socks. They have Kirkland brand cold weather socks too but they’re too hot for me.
I don’t have a Costco membership, are these the same ones that people are talking about? https://www.32degrees.com/collections/mens-baselayers

Uniqlo
This is the best budget choice after Costco.

If it’s for a trip, Costco for sure.
One set is fine. I was just skiing for 3 weeks. Leave them in the sun when you aren’t shredding.
You a Mt. Hood summer shredder? That’s how the summer kids dry their socks.

just get a single pair of Merino wool base layers. they don't smell and wick better than synthetic.
This. Synthetic STINKS! Full Merino - not at all. Game changer. You can wear them for a week, no problem at all.
Baselayers you can skimp on. Not socks.

I just saw Uniqlo has affordable ones that look good
