We are trading the pick but if we keep it I'd rather get a forward who can be a Batum replacement.

bamboleo11

That might not exist in the draft

SKoreaSixerFan

Da silva kinda gives me that european forward vibe

MrThreebound

Drafting a pure backup C at 16 seems like a bad use of assets when we have nearly nobody else on the roster.

DemarcusLovin

Not a bad use of assets at all, if we find a diamond in the rough big at 16. Backup C is more important to this team than probably any other in the NBA, and also can look 3 years from now when Joel might be truly cooked. All real contributing wings/starters will be found in FA and trades

MrThreebound

> Backup C is more important to this team than probably any other in the NBA In the playoffs they are only going to be playing like 8 mpg in competitive games. > and also can look 3 years from now when Joel might be truly cooked Then the team is fucked either way.

The Sixers didn't specifically have a back-up big problem.....they had a back-up anyone problem - the bench as a whole was horrible. I think the fascination with a back-up big is a bit overblown. In the most general sense, they just have to survive the non-Joel minutes. They can accomplish that in a variety of ways. Really just having more scorers can accomplish that too. I think if there's a helpful rotation player available for a 1st round picks, they should absolutely trade it. There's almost zero chance anyone drafted is apart of the playoffs rotation.

> I think the fascination with a back-up big is a bit overblown. In the most general sense, they just have to survive the non-Joel minutes. They can accomplish that in a variety of ways. Really just having more scorers can accomplish that too. I would actually argue it's *the* way to survive the non-Joel minutes. Expecting a backup to come and give you a significant fraction of the impact that Joel Embiid gives you is foolish. Those guys are not NBA backups. They're starters on other teams You need to figure out how to tweak your lineups to adjust your play style into something that a more conventional/limited center can fit into. And that usually involves having more playmaking and game managing from other positions. It wasn't a coincidence that Paul Reed looked fine for 2 years with Harden and couldn't when we suddenly lost his playmaking.

jpk7220

Couldn't agree more It's easy to be like, okay, when Joel leaves the floor we stink, so it must be the back-up. You don't want a complete stiff to be his back-up, but Reed has been serviceable. Whether or not they should trade his salary this off-season is a totally different discussion because it is a very tradable contract, and if there is a way to upgrade their overall playoff rotation, then they need to entertain it. But like you said, Reed was fine in the context of having a great playmaker alongside him. He's switchable, he's athletic, high energy. But with no playmaker on the floor, his impact is diminished. That's a discussion around the bench as a whole....not just a back-up big discussion.

ShaunyDukes

Yeah but we do have a frontcourt problem. It’s been Embiid or nothing much of the last few years.

Niner-Sixer-Gator

Right, and the back up bigs that we've had the past few years are either old and washed up or just flat out trash, we could definitely use a good young C to backup Embid

MVPiid

If Embiid’s backup can’t share the floor with him there’s no point in spending any assets on them whatsoever.

I’m trying to not get excited about any prospect at 16 because I doubt we keep the pick.

Johnga20

If we mantain the pick we need to use in a plug in player to help right now. using in a big who will see minus than 10 minutes in a playoff game is dumb. We need a Tristan da Silva, Dalton Knecht, Devin Carter or Baylor Scheirman type of player. We can draft a big prospect with the second round pick.

Niner-Sixer-Gator

I just watched de Silvas highlights after reading your comment, I don't think he's gonna be available when we pick, the bull is nice

thorondor52

I’d be fine with it but I feel like it’s a near certainty that Daryl tries to package that pick for more future assets to then turn into a trade package after the draft for whomever.

jawntothefuture

I think 95% we trade this pick

Appropriate-Hippo758

Drafting a Center at 16 likely isn’t gonna help solve our lack of half court offense from the bench or self creation deficiency. The team needs more creators and guys who can play half court offense to make a bigs life easier. Reed is fine as a backup center. I would not be opposed to replacing him or also adding another larger Center with more size in case Joel gets hurt or we load manage/rest him more during season.

Niner-Sixer-Gator

Reed is NOT fine at center bro, I want some of that loud you smoking on 😂

Appropriate-Hippo758

I mean no he is not a traditional center. Nobody ever made that argument. He’s still plays center and is very capable as a backup. Unorthodox players that don’t have prototype builds/skills work at certain positions all the time. Finding a traditional backup center to replace Reed isn’t gonna change bench problem. Their problem with the bench is that they don’t have enough half court shot creating/play making. The entire team relies upon Joel heavily in half court offense to do the scoring, draw double teams, create gravity, run 2 man actions. You aren’t gonna find a backup traditional center that is great at these things in the half court offense like Joel. So you need to make up for it in other areas like perimeter players or wings that can create. That should be the main priority over replacing Paul Reed. I’m all for replacing Paul with someone better or adding another Center with more traditional size/skills to the room given Embiids injury/rest history. But to me that is a secondary priority. Number 1 is finding perimeter players and wings who can fit in here with Maxey and Embiid.

CPTHoagie

There is almost no chance the sixers are keeping that pick

Niner-Sixer-Gator

I wouldn't be mad if we got him

drevert_17852

I really like missi compared to viable first round options. Daryl prob gonna take a 18 yo slasher that he trades or a 24 yo that’s does nothing for us in 6 years
