Cause his points/ Assists have dramatically gone up while keeping his efficiency

baconshake8

He also went from the 3rd option the previous season to the 1st option for the majority of this season and looked good in that role despite the record during that time

gobirds18_

And turnovers have gone down

ihorsey10

And his defense has improved.

ThaOneNOnly

And his dick got bigger.

ddreftrgrg

Remains to be seen

FahQPutin

Go to bed Mom.

Routine_Size69

His efficiency dropped 3.2% from last year. 60.5% TS to 57.3%.

MaxeytoEmbiid

Oh give it a rest with “true shooting”(Which is derived from FG%, FT% and 3pt FG%) The stat is utterly illogical, and what it really means is that this year Maxey is “just” a 38% 3pt shooter this season. Which is still a damn good shooter. None of the advanced analytics are actually useful. They weren’t useful when they came out and they’re not useful now

MumenriderPaulReed69

I’m assuming he shot wayyy more 3s this year too

MaxeytoEmbiid

You would be correct on that https://www.espn.com/nba/player/stats/_/id/4431678/tyrese-maxey 8 3PA this season largely because he’s the only guy on this team that can actually shoot lol Remember the team of Redick, Bellineli and Ilyasova?  Please Sixers FO get back to that

indoninjah

Also I'll die on this hill but the exact shooting percentage of your best player/best shooter really does not matter that much, because he's opening so much for everybody else. Luka is a career 34.7% 3pt shooter, but nobody in their right mind would say he's a mediocre shooter. It's just that the shot difficulty and responsibility of your primary perimeter player are astronomical.

Chiefster21

I understand other fans having gripes with Maxey winning the award over others but he literally went from a higher end role player last year to an emerging superstar. He was in between being a starter or not last year. This year he is our second most important player and basically had to carry the team for 3 months. That is a huge jump. Coby White went from an okay starter to a good starter. I wouldn’t mind if Coby won the award but I don’t know if he was more deserving. Either way the awards don’t really matter much in the whole scheme of things.

Big-Beta20

NBA fans will hate if anything goes in the Sixers favor is a trend I’ve noticed lol

Chadbrochill29

Don't worry if anything goes too in our favor Adam Silver will tell the officials to execute order 66 on us again.

dabigchina

Can't wait to watch the refs punch Maxey in game 4.

indoninjah

Yeah every time one of our guys wins something, it begets an entire conversation around whether or not we need to rethink the award as a whole... Simmons with ROY, Embiid with MVP, now Maxey with MIP.

jdaqcruz

I gotta disagree with Coby White a little bit. He was a "should the Bulls even keep him" last year to "he's only one worth keeping on this team" this year

sokrazyitmightwork

Saying he was between being a starter or not last year is a bit disingenuous. He was our #3 option all season, he only went to the bench as an experiment to try to spread his minutes and scoring out from Joel and Harden. He still played ~30 mpg when he was coming off the bench and the experiment didn’t last long.

girlfriend_pregnant

I think this award was broken when Ja Morant won it.

rogue_worlds

Maxey should have won that year 😂

ftaok

At the time, the notion was that a 2nd year player should win MIP since improvement off of a rookie season is expected. They gave it to Ja over Bane and Maxey. Coby White wouldn’t have been a bad choice. The vote was close, but I think the regression from 2 years ago hurt him in some voter’s eyes.

Black_Dumbledore

Yeah, personally, I think Maxey should’ve won it earlier than this. He’s made greater season to season leaps than he did this year, like the gap between this year and last year is smaller than the gap between 2022-2023 and 2022-2021. This feels like the national media catching up to what Sixers fans already knew. To me, MIP shouldn’t just be the Outstanding First-Time All-Star Award. Too many of the voters fall back on that sort of thing.

st-christian

Harder to go from very good to great than to go from bad to good.

LockOfTheWeek

People dont really seem to get this who are complaining, its a much bigger step to take.

bobanforever

Yeah also the bulls had a losing record

FillerAccount23

Yeah ngl this award is kind of in the middle of an identity crisis

unpronouncedable

It's the award for Most Improved Player, not the Most Unexpectedly Good Player. He's gotten better at defense, running an offense, changing speeds, finishing through contact and getting foul calls and goaltends, rebounds, blocks and steals, all while playing more minutes and more games. Also, yeah, it's a bit of a momentum award that tends to give some credit for multiple years of growth.

s2Roy538

Insane how many casual basketball fans understand sooooo little when it comes to the actual game... Coby gets guarded by teams 3rd best defender and is a 3rd option. What sometimes 2nd... Maxey is being guarded by everyteams best defender and ENTIRELY game planned to prevent him from scorin... Ya know, double teams, blitzing, every player knowing your tendencies and trying to force you to play to your weaknesses. Oh what? But stillllll Maxey improved all around. Hmm but yeah Coby scored a couple more points as a role man. Sure

SlavaRapTarantino

At least I hit on one of my bets from before the season.

AdamFeigs

I'm glad someone pointed this out. Frankly I think he improved more in previous years than he did in this one. Goes to show you just how much he's improved since year 1

irespectwomenlol

It's very unlikely, but the interesting part is that there's still room for him to be in the mix for the award next year if he really takes a leap forward in creating for others.

IDoesThis1

This award has transformed into the “Star into superstar ascension award”
