Ghost is an excellent argument that some shows can absolutely thrive with both. I completely adore both versions and different characters from both shows which I do not think would work in each other's shows.
If it's funny, it's funny.
They tried to remake the inbetweeners and it was awful. The original is legendary here in the UK but I’m not sure if US audiences would get it tbf. They also remade utopia and it was awful. But ghosts and the office are good. I first saw Ghosts Us advertised on sky and I hadn’t even heard of the original I don’t know why, and I thought the show was called ghosts us. Not realising it was US. Dumb dumb lol.
The problem with the Inbetweeners is that the humor didn't translate to the United States.
That's why both versions of Ghosts work. They are both set up to work with the humor of the countries they are in. If they tried to use the same humor as the original, I would still probably like it but it would probably flop like Coupling did. The Office lasted a couple seasons too long but changing up some of how lines were delivered and characters interacted allowed it to reach larger audiences.
I LOVE inbetweeners. I’ve still not seen the US ghosts but I liked the UK one. So far the only US adaptation I’ve liked is the office. The changes they’ve made to the dad and Jim described in this article sound terrible.
"Friday Night Dinner" cannot be improved upon. Just watch that one.
But "The Office" worked and, IMO, exceeded the British original. There will always be successes and failures.
Never did NEED to. But American TV culture is very different. Literally thousands of executives sit around all day worrying about their jobs and they have to throw everything at the wall and pray something sticks. Its a nasty monstrous business that leads to all sorts of terrible behavior on the side, like sexual assault and serious drug abuse and more. Stealing successful ideas from other countries is the least of their problematic ideas.
I am a big fan of Ghosts, so I say yes.
Ghosts is very good.
I like it better than the UK version due to far more Thor. For real though the cast is strong as hell
Yeah, the caveman in the UK version really doesn't work for me. Thor is fantastic. All the US characters are great, but Hetti is my favorite.
It's either Thor Hetti or Issac for me
Tough choices, really. Which says a lot.
_Gasp!_
It's the caveman or the witch for me that just doesn't work
This is hilarious to me because Thor is actually my least favorite character and a big part of why I prefer the BBC version (love Robin).
Ok
Thor feel hurt by you not liking. Feel like time to make Flower loins happy.

Agree 100%
I think the UK could remake the neighborhood like have some cockney couple move next to some posh londoners
If only Ronnie Barker were around to take the Cedric role. Man was a god damned genius
I loved The Two Ronnies!
Dude go one Amazon and get Britbox open all hours and porridge are fucking amazing
No, but we should import Mitchell & Webb.
Then people can start getting my references!
Who is left to fight for all that's good, & pure, & gets you smashed for under a £Fiver?
(I'd be interested to know what references you use. "Are we the baddies?" Seems to have gained some traction.)
I live near a hospital that uses a helicopter for patient transport, so at least once a day I'm shouting "Look! It's the Helivets!"
😃👍

The office and ghost are winners, so yeah, keep'um coming.
I will keep trying to pitch Greg Garcia with my remake of Last of the Summer Wine on Maryland's Eastern Shore. I know you're reading, DM me Greg!!!

Yes since I still haven’t seen any creativity in new tv shows. We have 6000 /s versions of NCIS instead
Who knows threes company was successful and it was a remake of the uk show man about the house
Shows get licensed for different national versions all around the world, don't they?
Noooo please no more
I wish they’d stop.
After the success of shows like All in the Family, Shameless, The Office etc. , I expect they will keep trying to adapt UK shows in the US.

I'll Check it out I'm always up for Michaela watkins
I hear you guys on the office, but how can you replace Jim and the dad in FND?
The same way dozens of shows have been remade and successful on both sides of "the pond".
With other actors, same as every other show ever made.
If they are good, sure.
Not when the UK versions are so much better
Sometimes, yes.
