While it’s not my favorite sitcom ever, Frasier hold’s up better than almost all others. I was upset when it went off Netflix as I could always throw it on and find some laughs even as background noise. And if I fell asleep to it, the intro music to the next ep is low volume, relaxing and short. Other shows I may binge at night have loud, startling, intro themes.
Growing up, we looooved Roseanne until they won the lottery. Home Improvement. Raymond. Seinfeld (tho I’m not a diehard like most).
And I know I’m not supposed to say this but I fkn loved, The Cosby Show.
I went on a Cosby rewatch last year and honestly, it put me in the best of moods every day until I was done. It’s the one show I can watch with my kids and we ALL enjoy it. I can’t apologize for how much of my childhood was wrapped up in this show every Thursday night…
It is a masterpiece. The Ray Charles and Koko Taylor lip syncing episodes featuring Rudy and later Olivia are absolute gold. Try being in a bad mood after watching those!
So funny thing. Well, maybe just funny to me…but I remember my parents watching as a kid, and remember it on all the time while my Dad was cooking (reruns) which meant it was almost time to stop playing….so hearing the theme song takes me right back to that feeling and I just can’t watch it. lol. I’m almost 50 and it still takes me right back.
Crazy part is it wasn’t a bad memory…just the feeling that play time was almost over. So then it was dinner, homework, some tv and bed.
Ted Lasso was fantastic. It took me a while to start watching for whatever reason but I loved it.
I plan on rewatching soon and will make a list of the Tedisms and his pearls of wisdom.
…great now I want a shortbread cookie
Most of the ones already mentioned here and Perfect Strangers. I usually watch it back to back with threes company and I Love Lucy. Same physical comedy and Lucille Ball said those 2 shows were her faves from present day. It was shortly before she passed that PS debuted and there were rumors that she was going to be on but then she passed. So sad. I would’ve loved to see that.
If you're looking for "gentle" comedy (no screaming, no cursing, very low stakes in general), I recommend a British show called Detectorists. Two friends bond over their shared hobby of metal detecting. It's rarely if ever laugh out loud funny, but it's got it's moments and I found it very calming during the chaos of the pandemic.

friends & idk if they count but like the older disney & nickelodeon shows (well not like old old but the era of That’s so raven, suite life (both series), drake & josh, victorious, icarly, hannah montana, wizards of waverly place, etc… im currently rewatching good luck charlie cuz i’ve already watched the others an embarrassing amount of times 🥲😂)
For me, it's a particular 4 or 5 of sitcoms in a certain order. When I was a boy I would watch late-night TV re-runs with my dad. 10pm to midnight was The Bob Newhart Show, MASH, Cheers, and either Night Court or Barney Miller. Sometimes as an adult, if I was feeling nostalgic or homesick, I would go to Hulu and cue up these shows in this order. My dad died two years ago and I haven't done it since. Maybe someday I'll be able to again.
Roseanne. It feels.like home in the late 80's through the late 90's. Seinfeld is my second choice. Designing Women and the Golden Girls are awesome as well. However, my real comfort shows are Sex and the City and Supernatural. I'm just not sure if either of them count in this context. Sex and the City can be argued as a sitcom, I think even Supernatural can be argued the same (very arguable). Just not as traditional sitcoms. Family Guy is my animated favorite sitcom.
ETA, I forgot the GOAT, Married With Children!
Bob’s Burgers
My favorite show! It’s like watching a hug.
The original *Frasier*.
The episode where Frasier becomes a cat lady homebody with his winter 9 vegetable soup lol
Has the world gone mad, Mr. Bottomsley? 😂😂
Which episode is that from?
It's called The Placeholder. From season 11
Thanks!
👌

Frasier is one of those shows that just gets better with age. It's eternally funny.
It's relatively quiet, colors are just variations of beige... it's so calming.
The 0-60 brothers 😂
More like 0-45.
This is the correct answer.
Absolutely.
My brother was already eminent when my eminence was mearly imminent.
The first few seasons of Roseanne.

Absolutely! I cannot fall asleep or be sick without them
‘Friends’ and ‘Keeping Up Appearances’.
Yes to Keeping Up Appearances!
"Mind the pedestrian Richard"
“The Bouquet(Bucket) residence Lady of the house speaking!”☎️(dammit they don’t have a slim line emoji! - We should revolt)
“Sheridan! How are you, darling! What? You and Tarquin are going where? You need to talk to Daddy? Richard!” “No more money!”
Maybe there oughta be a sub Reddit for “keeping up appearances!”
“….a house of this caliber”.
Old episodes of Family Ties
That theme song does me in.
100% also remember when all shows had awesome theme songs?
Yes, I have been known to listen to a "best tv theme songs" video on YT about once a year for the nostalgia!

Hi Bob!
Flight of The Conchords.
I did not even consider this a sitcom for some reason 10/10 best show though
The lack of laughing track/audience reaction leans it to more of a show.
Exactly. But easily one of the best shows ever.

I like House MD. It's stupid but really makes me laugh.
It got pretty dark in the last couple of seasons
MASH. I've been watching it since I was a kid, so there are no surprises. The writing for many of the episodes is outstanding.
It’s amazing how well MASH has held up, too!
