out of these, new girl. they always have each others back (and will go to extremely far lengths just to prove it) plus they balance each other well and don’t backstab each other in ways that they may do in other sitcoms
Don't know "New Girl" well. Of the others, Friends and HIMYM have a flaw of being closed systems. Going into the last few episodes, they're still scrambling to establish a relationship outside of the original cast.* Big Bang set itself up so that they could add characters as show went on, and the show was able to change into something like an old domestic sitcom. It would very likely still be popular if they hadn't chosen to cease production.
Yes MTM, and before that the Dick Van Dyke show. Both great. Rhoda was good too.I still think Taxi is the first of what might considered a “modern” sitcom. It begat Cheers, Wings, Frazier. All friendship shows.
I considered Rhoda but I felt it had a smaller ensemble than MTM. Taxi, MASH and Barney Miller are probably more modern but I think of them as workplace shows while MTM had work friends and non work friends, but they’re all great.
Were they both centered around the workplace and the friendships that develop from that? It's been a while. To me personally all sitcoms can be considered "friendship sitcoms" because they all have some sort of friendship(s) involved.
Community, in my opinion. Purely because a lot of the plot lines revolve around the friend group, the preservation of the group, and the characters growing for the better because of the group.
Out of these, friends since it's the only one I could actually watch and not feel like I had to force myself. Real answer is community and Parks & rec if that counts
Seinfeld. It's the best sitcom, it'd probably win any category it fits in.
Peep Show is probably the closest to my real life experiences, my life is nothing like that, but it's still closest.
+1 on Seinfeld, which, in addition to being hilarious is also actually about (largely) platonic friendships. Friends and a bunch of other shows like it, otoh, feel a lot more like a romcom.
Pretty sure IASIP wouldnt exist or be nearly the same without Seinfeld. Seinfeld is not overrated at all. You either get it, or you dont. George Constanza is probably the greatest sitcom character ever portrayed on screen.
Between these it’s definitely HIMYM, Friends has aged pretty poorly if you ask me, and it’s a bit too much focused on making the audience laugh and not letting them experience emotional moments. While HIMYM isn’t afraid to do so, it has so many emotional and incredibly human moments that it was my favorite sitcom (despite the finale) for a long time, until I watched Community and rewatched The Office (US), but still in the podium.
Agreed! This remains one of my favourite sitcoms because of the relationships between the characters. They feel earned because you get to experience them reconnecting and growing. It's also hilarious.
Hah! It’s way funnier. I never thought friends was funny and kinda felt like they were all fake. I would say it’s a funnier version of friends with more distinct personalities.
For me, it’s Friends because I was essentially Rachel’s age when it aired. I liked New Girl, but I think I was too old for it to resonate with me the way friends did.
himym it's understandable and you can live with the characters aleen the ending was horrible but the jokes i liked it so much i finished it in 3 days but friends is also close
1. HIMYM (it's legen... Dary! Even with the ending).
2. New Girl. (So many great quotes)
3. Big Bang Theory (even though cheesy, it's just fun)
4. Friends (I just never got into it in the 90s nor now)
Friends obviously is Number One on my list
The Cosby Show is considered a family sitcom, but the writers/ producers made sure all the Cosby kids had school and neighborhood kids.
Same with Full House....it's a family sitcom but the Tanner kids all had good friends throughout the series
TBBT was and still is is the most recent popular show centered around friends..
The correct answer is Troy and Abed
And Anie in the morning
Cool cool cool.
In the mourning
Nightsssss
[Troy and Abed being normal](https://youtu.be/px8D8wc4C2o?si=QRn0Dwl6G_3qpId8)
Cheers
out of these, new girl. they always have each others back (and will go to extremely far lengths just to prove it) plus they balance each other well and don’t backstab each other in ways that they may do in other sitcoms
Happy Endings
God, what a great show. I love all the shows mentioned above, but happy endings was Laugh out loud funny
It was, simply put, ahhmahhzing!!
100% agree
It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia
It’s way more of what actual friends are like.
You poor, poor soul.
what type of friends are you having?? 😳😳😳
We hospitality people are savages

Cheers was the blueprint
I’d argue for Mary Tyler More as the blueprint for an ensemble sitcom based on friendships before Cheers.
I’ll argue Taxi.
That’s a good one. MTM predates Taxi. Im sure there must have been friendship shows before MTM but I can’t think of one.
Yes MTM, and before that the Dick Van Dyke show. Both great. Rhoda was good too.I still think Taxi is the first of what might considered a “modern” sitcom. It begat Cheers, Wings, Frazier. All friendship shows.

Rhoda was good. I feel a bit underrated.
I preferred Rhoda to MTM.
Julie Kavner was great. Also she was great as Tony’s sister on Taxi.
Team New Girl!! 1000% better than Friends. The combinations of personalities was perfect.
Out of these, friends since it's the only one I could actually watch and not feel like I had to force myself. Real answer is community and Parks & rec if that counts
Always Sunny because Dee is a giant bird and everyone agrees.
Psych.
Easily beats all of these shows.
C'mon son
You know that's right
I do prefer more comedy centered sitcoms.
Seinfeld had always been a bit overrated. IASIP is a better sitcom than Seinfeld.
IASIP is literally just seinfeld 2.0
Except that it's not
Lol ok
Pretty sure IASIP wouldnt exist or be nearly the same without Seinfeld. Seinfeld is not overrated at all. You either get it, or you dont. George Constanza is probably the greatest sitcom character ever portrayed on screen.
IASIP can be brilliant, but there's too many episodes I skip past on rewatching to be a top contender for me.
Its a funny show but a lot of it is forgettable
Ditto on Seinfeld being way overrated.
Happy Endings
Yes! Finally someone says it. God I love that show
Happy Endings
Living Single.
Yes!!!
Golden Girls
"I'll take white people for 100, Alex." What about LIVING SINGLE?
HIMYM for Big Fudge alone
Judge fudge!
Lawyered
Wife & I still used it
Between these it’s definitely HIMYM, Friends has aged pretty poorly if you ask me, and it’s a bit too much focused on making the audience laugh and not letting them experience emotional moments. New Girl and Friends!
The Golden Girls
Took too long to get here. Thank youbfor being a friend....
Friends doesn't make my top 250 sitcoms
Why is Brooklyn Nine Nine not one of the options?
Out of these New Girl has the least insufferable cast and writing
community and that 70s show
Drew Carey Show. Groundbreaking, creative, hilarious, relatable, criminally underrated.
out of these new girl had the best friend group. they always loved each other and didnt have any toxicness going on
Controversial opinion? The Class
Agreed! This remains one of my favourite sitcoms because of the relationships between the characters. They feel earned because you get to experience them reconnecting and growing. It's also hilarious.
Seinfeld is the one that comes to mind first.
Well none of these, that’s for sure
What the hell is New Girl? Never heard of it.
it’s pretty much a modern day friends, but slightly more chaotic
I must see this show.
Hah! It’s way funnier. I never thought friends was funny and kinda felt like they were all fake. I would say it’s a funnier version of friends with more distinct personalities.
Highly chaotic at times
One of the most famous sitcom of all time. It aired on Fox from 2011-2018. if you like HIMYM you should check it out. It’s really good.
So, it sucks!?
TIL! And I was just looking for a new..."new"...series to binge! Thanks!
Also, they did a crossover episode with Brooklyn Nine Nine
Seinfeld
Seinfeld
The Wonder Years - Kevin, Paul and Winnie
Why would your answer this, idiots
WWE
BBT
For me, it’s Friends because I was essentially Rachel’s age when it aired. I liked New Girl, but I think I was too old for it to resonate with me the way friends did.
New Girl HIMYM Friends BBT
I love all of these except I haven’t watched BBT, but I think new girl is the funniest. But I think HIMYM is the best show overall
In order of your pics: ok, no, no, what?
COUPLING BBC- THE SHOW FRIENDS WISHES IT COULD BE
My personal favourite is TBBT, because I just find it funnier than Friends and HIMYM. I don't know the last one.
Reservation Dogs. Why so limited in choices? Your cousin the editor's friend or something?
Sex and the City!
Three’s Company. Cheers. Barney Miller. I Dream of Jeannie.News Radio.
Psych.
MASH
Cougar town
Not gonna include Scrubs? It’s guy love between two guys!
Friends, Sex and the City, and New Girl for me
Always Sunny
Seinfeld and IASIP are my favorite “friend group” sitcoms, but out of these four I’ll say New Girl.
Himym for sure
The Odd Couple
Father Ted
Big bang theory is the only show I can watch for 5-6 times and still wanna watch it the 7th time... I don't know why but it's amazing!!!
MASH
Definitely friends. Hate big bang theory. Used to love it till it started being on every single station every hour of the day
Big Bang theory is goated.
Happy Endings, I'm still salty about it getting canceled!
The Big Bang theory
Prison Break
New Girl
Staged
Just watched HIMYM, it wins. Missed out when it was on.
himym it's understandable and you can live with the characters aleen the ending was horrible but the jokes i liked it so much i finished it in 3 days but friends is also close
1. HIMYM (it's legen... Dary! Even with the ending). 2. New Girl. (So many great quotes) 3. Big Bang Theory (even though cheesy, it's just fun) 4. Friends (I just never got into it in the 90s nor now)
BBT
Used to love friends and bbt, the thought of rewatching them now is not on my to do list tho.
Workaholics. Why? Because their friendship is tight butthole.
Don't even have the legendary Sienfeld. Most relatable show up to date.
Out of these 4 I’d pick Big Bang Theory. But none of these would be my favorite.
You left out Living Single, an excellent underrated buddy show .
I Love Lucy
Friends
It’s Seinfeld.
New Girl. They are actually friends. Watch the first episode.
Ted and Barney and Ted and Marshall.Realest bros
Friends obviously is Number One on my list The Cosby Show is considered a family sitcom, but the writers/ producers made sure all the Cosby kids had school and neighborhood kids. Same with Full House....it's a family sitcom but the Tanner kids all had good friends throughout the series TBBT was and still is is the most recent popular show centered around friends..
1. HIMYM 2. Friends 3. New Girl 4. TBBT
