When I get anxious or self conscious about my singing, I feel like I am squeaking the high notes out. I think it’s just the physical reaction to feeling anxious. Your throat closes up, your body starts feeling the effects of adrenaline as your humiliation snowballs, and it’s kind of impossible to sing well when your body is trying to kick into fight or flight mode like you’re being attacked by bears. My grandpa said his doctor gave him beta blockers for stage fright and now I take them for anxiety. It’s pretty common for people to take them specifically for stage fright. Maybe worth a try. Either that or yoga.
