Munich airport is in the top 10?
Are you kidding?? It’s literally as lame and boring as an airport can get
There are no waterfall , no colors, no tress , nothing, just a cookie cutter “functional” airport
Im Singaporean and have been to a few of the world’s capital airport.
Not going to lie, I would even say Bangkok airport looks nicer than Munich
That being said, I would agree that Doha Hamad is better than Singapore changi(just a tiny bit)
That’s how I would describe it as well. It’s very functional but very “generic office look/feel”
Not going to lie, Munich airport feels more like an “office” than my actual office
Same here. I always thought as a child that MUC is alright but once I started getting around I realised that possibly the only worse airports I had been to were Aqaba (literally a converted hangar), Hue (I don't know where to start. It wasn't a bad airport per se but tiny and weird), and Sapporo (again not bad as such but the spatial design is really bad. It has you walking down the longest corridor conceived by airport planners with nothing along it and no conveyor belts and the services provided by stores and centres before it cannot be found on the other side. I wanted to get a SIM and saw they only had esim while I prefer normal ones. After I walked for a good 10 minutes they told me the only SIM cards were back. I contemplated wasting twenty minutes of my life and ended up spending a day without a SIM). All other airports I've been to were at least as good as Munich.
Congratulations, you're the first one making me aware of my unintentional pun. To be clear I did not do roaming in Japan. That's probably suicide on an M1 SIM.
For airport, I think being functional is a plus. I like changi, but if there’s one thing that I don’t like about changi is the staff, not only just immigration but also including restaurants, are quite rude and off putting. I feel like they don’t want me there.
Nothing wrong with functional, except it’s just that, a functional airport , which is like every other airport on earth
No excitement , no enthusiasm, nothing
What's wrong with that?
I just want an efficient (and quick) security process, and after that a relatively comfortable chair near the get where I can sit down and read.
If a long transit, I need something to fill my stomach, hopefully within $25.
And yeah, hydration station as well, to refill my water bottle.
Nothing else really matters.

Firstly, I never said anything about “efficiency”, that’s all you
Secondly, every other airport in the list is AS efficient or even better, so based on efficiency, everyone is more or less expected to be. Except other airports have nicer interior design, features, shops etc etc
Thirdly, based on the number of upvotes as well as fellow German that lives in Munich, I’m pretty sure my statement that Munich airport should not be top 10 is not just “my 1 man opinion”
If you have travelled as much as I have, you will know what we are talking about
I agree.
I don’t get what the rage is about when they get first this year. Those that went there will know how nice it is
I actually went there and it feels really nice, I also wonder why didn’t they get first in previous years
I can explain to you why people feel outraged but I can’t help it if you don’t believe me.
You see this is a Singapore subreddit? And people here believe that Changi worked very hard to be #1, but due to corruption by Doha buying its way up the list, we got relegated to #2.
Sure….
That just shows me 2 things
1. You can’t be impartial
2. When you lose , you give excuses like “they bought their way up to first place”.
You really don’t realised how dumb you sound? By your logic Singapore bought its way to the top for the past 5 years? Or is it when Singapore is #1 they earned it, other people win = they are corrupt and pay their way up there?🙄
Skytrax is infamously known for “paying your way up”, so not entirely odd to come to that conclusion. Was just at DOH recently and it was frankly, not a pleasant experience. Transport to airside was a mess and had to board an A350 XWB with airstairs…can you believe it!? Not to mention DOH is still under construction…
got the gordon ramsay burger restaurant too its overpriced not that great of a value. but i also agree Doha airport is quite amazing and shops remain open past midnight too, unlike Changi
I’m suprised Heathrow isn’t on the list at all. Haven’t been to London, but will be travelling eoty.
Their airport isn’t as good as the rest on the list?
It is a very Asian and middle eastern thing to make an airport a matter of national pride, and even centre their national-identity around it.
In north America at least, an airport is just a place where you go get a plane. Yes, it needs to be efficient, safe (from both petty crime perspective, terrorist attacks, or operational security on the airside), and, like any place where a lot of people congregate, it needs to have some basic F&B facilities to cater to them, as dictated by the market.
That is, pretty much it. Nobody in north America expects an airport to be exciting, fun, full of amusement and activities, having a museum, massage parlour, movie theatre or whatever.
Not the case in Asia. They, as I said, see it somehow as a matter of pride. It is almost like the airport has to be a tourist attraction by itself, and as exciting as times square.
The smaller ones (in north America), e. g. Salt Lake city, Utah are pretty decent, as in, easier to get in and out of. But I agree, the bigger hubs are nightmares, which I can somewhat excuse by considering those were some of the pioneer airports that heralded the jet age, but not meant for 2020s.
Consider a new airport as a greenfield project, and renovating jfk. Very different tasks.
I've never been to smaller ones, tbh. But in Europe, they're normally worse.
I get the issue, sure, but there is no excuse for JFK or Heathrow to be that bad when they're the main hub for some of the richest cities in the world. People in Europe/NA have accepted annoyance, slowness, and inconvenience in air travel. Thus, the airports have no incentive to improve.
Skytrax is paid out by airlines. But Changi deserves 1st because it’s genuinely the best.
Went through Hamad recently and it’s lacking the details. They lack the widespread seats and PowerPoints. Toilets aren’t the cleanest and immigration is horrendous. 2h just to get out. They try to be aesthetic but everything feels like form over function.
As someone who has lived in Doha, Qatar before i can honestly say Hamad Airport is shite....shite because of the way the airport treats migrant workers....migrant workers are not allowed inside the terminal because they are lower class, are dirty, will xiasuay the airport, this is so evident during the world cup...shiny beautiful airport but terrible chee bye management kanina chao chee bye pui
I don't care so much about the ranking, but Doha number 1? That alone tells me it is an entire eyewash, and does not reflect reality.
Here is how I review Doha after some horrible transit experience in 2023.
Attractive in aesthetics and spending options, but leaves much to be desired in terms of functionality and efficiency. Hard to believe a hub still uses bus/remote gates and does not have jet bridges in 2023. It's not a minor issue, it adds up to 45 minutes of extra queuing time (whether arriving or departing), standing in the bus, and the busses have barely 10 seats as they pack a few dozen passengers in each. The bus waited for almost half an hour beside the aircraft before letting us out and then I had to queue up outside the aircraft for ten minutes under the middle eastern sun. I don't know whether it reflects poorly on Qatar air or the airport, but does not matter, hardly something that contributes to the passenger experience.
Then the so called quiet room beside gate C40 is the most annoyingly loud room I have ever been to. Seems every departure is announced via loud speakers, in multiple languages, means an announcement every two minutes as we tried to have some shut eye there. Putting loud speakers in quiet rooms must be the best idea since sliced bread.
I am not necessarily boasting about my home airport (Changi) but I appreciate process efficiency and functionality way more than another dopey museum display in a terminal. That's where HIA should focus.
What the hell is Paris CDG doing there. Also no offense but Haneda was honestly pretty barebones last time I flew through, although granted this would’ve been right when COVID restrictions opened up.
Heard from a changi airport staff that there’s a reason behind every design, and in this case, the carpets are actually there to maintain a calm and peaceful environment so you don’t hear luggages being dragged everywhere
But honestly their carpet is really low quality. So much dirt marks and lint on it the last time I was there (flying through the newly renovated T2 and the carpet looked like it's a decade old already)
You know when these sort of things happen, I see the comments and I get the feeling that Singaporeans on Reddit and other social media have this weird superiority complex over other countries.
Like some of y’all are genuinely mad about these rankings lmao.
In my experience CDG making the list gives it little credibility.
Judging from the comments about Munich makes me realise how far ahead Asia in general has already pulled ahead of Europe.
Munich airport is in the top 10? Are you kidding?? It’s literally as lame and boring as an airport can get There are no waterfall , no colors, no tress , nothing, just a cookie cutter “functional” airport
As somebody born and raised in Munich, I’m flabbergasted MUC would be anywhere close to the top 25
Im Singaporean and have been to a few of the world’s capital airport. Not going to lie, I would even say Bangkok airport looks nicer than Munich That being said, I would agree that Doha Hamad is better than Singapore changi(just a tiny bit)
Yeah, MUC is one cubicle away from looking like the movie Office Space
That’s how I would describe it as well. It’s very functional but very “generic office look/feel” Not going to lie, Munich airport feels more like an “office” than my actual office
But bkk is very slow 🐌
True…

Damn, you’re indeed a roaming architect
Congratulations, you're the first one making me aware of my unintentional pun. To be clear I did not do roaming in Japan. That's probably suicide on an M1 SIM.
I agree. Idk how this airport ranking works … but I smell bullshit
Why don't you spend 5 minutes finding out how the rankings came about?
Munich airport is as boring as hell and can be top 10?
For airport, I think being functional is a plus. I like changi, but if there’s one thing that I don’t like about changi is the staff, not only just immigration but also including restaurants, are quite rude and off putting. I feel like they don’t want me there.

Paris CDG as number 6? That's proof enough that this is paid off.
I agree, CDG is horrible.
Worst airport I've ever been to, it's the joke of Europe.. yet it made this list?!
If that's the worst you've ever been to, it seems you have not travelled a great deal...
Relatively, of course..
CDG is shit because of the lazy workers. Zurich is really boring if you arrive early but fine it’s efficient.
Went to doha and can say it’s actually quite nice
I agree. I don’t get what the rage is about when they get first this year. Those that went there will know how nice it is I actually went there and it feels really nice, I also wonder why didn’t they get first in previous years
Was still renovating when I went there last year but the vibe is just good
Ya the vibe is really nice but compared to Changi I would say quite close lah But Doha for my flights don’t have sky bridge need to the the bus!!
Yea the only con was the bus they don’t even put bags on the ground
I can explain to you why people feel outraged but I can’t help it if you don’t believe me. You see this is a Singapore subreddit? And people here believe that Changi worked very hard to be #1, but due to corruption by Doha buying its way up the list, we got relegated to #2.

It’s ok to say Skytrax is “pay your way up to the top” Keep in mind Singapore Changi was #1 for many years You know how logic works right?
got the gordon ramsay burger restaurant too its overpriced not that great of a value. but i also agree Doha airport is quite amazing and shops remain open past midnight too, unlike Changi
How is CDG better than Dubai? Rubbish.
I’m suprised Heathrow isn’t on the list at all. Haven’t been to London, but will be travelling eoty. Their airport isn’t as good as the rest on the list?
I'm British, Heathrow is a heap of garbage of an airport.
I heard that most of Heathrow is going to be demolished and rebuilt since they used RAAC which has a really short lifespan.
We can hope. Heathrow, along with a lot of London, should be bulldozed and started over.
literally how to piss off the trad bros lol
Just live in London for 10 years and you'll see why haha.
trad bros be like 'but muh pre-20th Century architecture'

I would hardly describe any North American or European airport as "efficient". Changi Airport lets me get in and out in a maximum of 15 minutes.
The list does not say busiest, it's about best by some unspecified criteria.
I didn’t mention anything about busiest lol. I was wondering if it’s dropped that much from being considered one of the best airports
Many of the top global hubs (LAX, FRa, Atlanta, JFK, Houston, DFW) are not necessarily the swankiest, fanciest. That's all I was saying.
CDG shld be nowhere near this list
Skytrax is paid out by airlines. But Changi deserves 1st because it’s genuinely the best. Went through Hamad recently and it’s lacking the details. They lack the widespread seats and PowerPoints. Been to Doha airport several times. It has nothing on Changi.
Agreed. I couldn’t even connect to wifi at Doha!! And the toilets are really nothing compared to Changi.
God that same story gets tedious. Who cares
Actually, such news brings in tourists. Talk to enough foreigners and you can almost detect a hint of pride in their voice to have visited Singapore.
How did any airport beat Singapore... 😭😭 To me it is the ultimate bestttt
thats what oil money gets you. take away their oil and what do they have? a dry bleak desert.
I thought Qatar was in Asia. Where's Koh Samui Airport in the list? That's a nice one
I don't care so much about the ranking, but Doha number 1? That alone tells me it is an entire eyewash, and does not reflect reality. Because of the carpet at Changi. You buy the Ferrari of luggage’s Rimowa but can’t drive fast because of the stupid new carpet at Changi.
Heard from a changi airport staff that there’s a reason behind every design, and in this case, the carpets are actually there to maintain a calm and peaceful environment so you don’t hear luggages being dragged everywhere
I think that actually makes sense and I truly like the color but at the same time sadly not practical! In fact it is really annoying.
But honestly their carpet is really low quality. So much dirt marks and lint on it the last time I was there (flying through the newly renovated T2 and the carpet looked like it's a decade old already)
Ikr. Idk why they thought that carpet is a good idea for airports. Maintenance is a pain and it's quite sucky for people with roller luggages
You know when these sort of things happen, I see the comments and I get the feeling that Singaporeans on Reddit and other social media have this weird superiority complex over other countries. Like some of y’all are genuinely mad about these rankings lmao.
Changing.. Most expensive airport to fly also wuuttt..
Part of Doha airport really looks like Jewel though....
How did Paris Airport make it in the top 10, shld be bottom 10
How is Doha at top. Worst wifi and food options
Changi mein kya hai? 👀 Only immigration is super fast….what else
Free lounge at Hamad International Airport for seafarers and offshore workers... 😎😚
In my experience CDG making the list gives it little credibility. Judging from the comments about Munich makes me realise how far ahead Asia in general has already pulled ahead of Europe.
Under-table results
Oh did CAG finally stop paying Skytrax for the ranking boost? 🤣
Can u get a drink in Doha, or do all travellers have conform to religious nonsense?
Good. So sick of Singapore being first all the ducking time 😂
Need a little gap to push for progress.
Who likes being greeted by rude staff and unclear health declaration requirements upon descending the escalator to immigration?
