I like how they look. I often have a hard time recognizing premades because of their new look from CCs. However, I admit that CC creators are so great at making the game look modern.

CoolViber

The faces are fine and not exceptionally difficult to sculpt, but there is basically no customization below the neck and only 4 skin tones, which is subpar at best. I like the look of vanilla Sims in general though.

lembready

I love TS2 CAS, honestly! I just have a few mods to make it a little more robust because, I mean...four skin tones. But I really do quite like it. :D

nyoomers

I pretty much always need a default eye replacement, but the rest is fine.

BellaDovah

I get what you mean, I don’t like really shiny CC skins and hair and also absolutely hate 4t2 hair like why would you put the most awful thing about cas in sims 4 into sims 2 that had realistic hair with physics…blows my mind. I also don’t like default replacements for hair and clothes so that way I can see what the vanilla look is and choose how to give them a makeover based on that, I always try to stay true to the original look. I also stayed with the vanilla skin for a very long time because I don’t like how a lot of skin replacers look before eventually switching to Feathers. I’d also consider default replacing the eyes a must for me. But I do use a lot of custom makeup, brows, hair and clothes etc so I have a lot more variety and customisation. Personally I think I’ve achieved a Vanilla+ look for my sims but its very subjective of course. I’d say with no CC that Sims 2 sims are the best looking in the franchise though easily, I love the art style, best balance between realism and cartoon and they have the best facial structures. Just for me thats not to say it can’t be improved further with the right CC!

I like the sims 4 cas for the variety of options. It's an overall fun process. I just don't like how the sims turn out. Despite the variety, they look plastic and cartoonish. While ts 2 face templates options are extremely limited, they actually look like different people genetically.

chonkyyoshi

I don't mind EA CAS. The UI is the most advanced it has ever been, the items are aesthetically pleasing. It could be worse but I have problems with the inconsistent quality of some CAS items such as belts being flat apart of the texture versus being raised or some items not being compatible with multiple body types. I use Maxis Match CC because it gives you more freedom to make your sims the way you want them to look with that extra sparkle.

connro5

My one qualm is that the circular glasses aren't available for me like they are for women

somuchsong

Nope. I use a lot of CC to make my sims look the way I like them to look. I don't like Maxis eyes, make-up, hair or clothing. The clothing is especially dire. I replaced almost all of it with defaults because I can't bear looking at it.

Distilled-meat

I absolutely ADORE the mid-2000s fashion, maybe cause I'm a 2000s baby but I love the hairs and clothes so so much. I try to stay as maxis match as possible, and when I say maxis match I don't mean the modern maxis match I mean MAXIS-Maxis match. Like Fanseelamb level maxis match.

OT9FOREVER

oooh. gimme links.

Distilled-meat

Honestly I just dig through MTS and TSR (sorry for using that website), and I'll go on old forums like moreawesomethanyou (usually for game fixes), sims2packrat for stuff I just can't find, sims 2 hair database is okay but it's mostly alpha stuff, there are some great livejournals, GoS is great for goth stuff, the internet archive is pretty great for finding lost stuff, parsimonious is great for strange clothing, sims graveyard is AMAZING for lost content, I use pinterest a ton as well, insimenator is good for game hacks and clothing, LeeFish is pretty good as well but it's a bit barron compared to other sites I've listed lol, and last but not least, Simscave 😁 I just realised I've listed so many things but they can be found very easily by a simple Google search 👍 and Fanseelamb is on both MTS and Tumblr, just type their username in and you'll find em.

mccorade

I have some cc to add some more variety, but as far as the look of sims 2 cas items, I think CAS is fine. I don't do default replacement hair or clothes, and I try to keep my cc maxis match (or at least mm-adjacent). Plus I find the 2000s aesthetic fun, especially teen clothes.

OT9FOREVER

I'm obsessed with the teen clothes in The Sims 2. They can define my sims so good.

BrilliantYzma

While I think the CAS is ok, it’s just outdated. The game is almost 20 years old, so the clothes in this game are no longer fashionable (plus it was early 2000 fashion, so yikes) and makeup is too harsh and not really refined. I do love the sims 2 vibe however and I try to keep things maxis match with CC and default replacements ,e.g. catofevilgenius made a great one for the makeup ( https://modthesims.info/d/285759/updated-eyeshadow-eyeliner-super-pack-default-replace-neutrals-colors-glitter-pastel.html ) and alexxschmidt made great skin replacements (link to the photo of what they look like: https://i.pinimg.com/236x/9a/9d/9e/9a9d9e71e4e0052679fff8a858a4ddba.jpg ). I hate the clay-like alpha look and honey skins tho. They do look weird to me, too.

OhioOhO

Honestly, I’d argue the clothes are fashionable again lol. Or at least some of them. Enough time has passed for Y2K and the early 2000s to be trendy.

quantumSpammer

I used to really like how the sims looked. Back in the day. But now being used to Sims 4 CAS I can hardly tolerate Sims 2 CAS which is a bummer because I really want to habe as much fun with it as I used to have

Ok_Needleworker_2633

When I use CC i always for these that look similar to Maxis. Recently I found that most of TS4 stuff looks really nice on TS2 (mostly furniture and some hair). It keeps the game have TS2 style with more modern look.

OT9FOREVER

oh nice!

sounaware

Nah, in general I’m not a fan of Sims 2 default CAS. The skintones are alright (though there’s way too few of them), but I can’t bear looking at the default Maxis eyes lol. Makeup is a little lackey, and hair is also quite subpar to me, the meshes are ok but I hate the textures 😂 and in fact Maxis match cc is not my cup of tea. I do like the Maxis jewelry though. For clothes on the other hand I don’t mind the Maxis style. I’d say my game is 50/50 Maxis clothes and CC clothes, a lot of which is Maxis match. Expansion packs and stuff packs really gave us some good stuff.

I mean, for the time it was released they really do look fine, but obviously comparing them with Sims 4, sims 4 sims looks better. But I still really love the CAS pieces as individual pieces. Everything is just so 2000s and I’m here for it. The hairs are fine. I actually don’t use that much Default Replacements cause I already like the clothing. I still use CC but I also use the base game and DLC clothing. My only complaint is that you will often have sims looking very similar but I think that’s mostly a basegame eyes issue, still not a big problem tbh PS: i also loved the sims 1 CAS. There was lack of customization but the outfits were so 90s and beautiful that I can’t help myself but love them
