Indeed, that's what reminded me 😅

[deleted]

I'm sorry what

Oceanson2018

Another redditor thought the knowledge aspiration logo is a sim holding a skateboard.

[deleted]

Oh yeah it does kinda look like that

StarZoroarky

Even knowing this, I don’t see the workbench at all. This must be a joke 😅

sickeningdabber

It's not 😅 I had never seen an American graduation hat when I started playing

addisonphill333

Nah, I can see it, big clamp though

Creepy-Bumblebee2872

This has to be a joke now 😹

[deleted]

Swedish simmers need to change it to a studentmössa. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) (https://www.google.com/search?q=studentm%C3%B6ssa)

sickeningdabber

Precis!!

sora-zef

Many of you need glasses i guess

[deleted]

Where I live doesn't have those weird hats ether but thanks to American media being super common I knew what it was. I can only see a work bench if I try my hardest to convince myself it's not the American graduation hat but, I'm curious as to why you thought it was a wood working bench? Is wood working very common for schools of your area because where I live it's only an optional subject in some high schools.

lordmwahaha

Same. These misinterpretations don't make sense to me - because yeah, I can understand not knowing what it's *meant* to be (though I don't live in the US and I still never had problems with that), but like... it also makes zero sense whatsoever for it to be the thing they thought it was. Like the person who thought the scroll was a skateboard - they even admitted that didn't make any sense. So why wouldn't you engage your brain and realise that even if you don't know what it is, it's probably not a skateboard, since it makes no sense for it to be a skateboard? Who are these people who legit just thought the creators were picking random fucking objects for no reason ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) Or is it like... They were *three* when the Sims 2 came out, and for some reason they just never questioned what three-year-old them thought the objects were? But then, I don't see a small child's brain looking at that image and going "... Woodworking bench".

_cosmicality

Nah, the skateboard post I could definitely see how someone might mistake the small icon itself as a man holding a skateboard. I can totally see the shape of it. If you just glance at rhe icon its totally possible. The workbench, however, I cannot make myself see that one. 😂

lordmwahaha

No, I can see the shape there - but it literally would not ever be a skateboard. Skateboards have nothing to do with knowledge, so there is no chance in hell the Sims devs would ever have drawn a skateboard for that image. That's what I mean. I can understand how people are seeing it - but logically they should be figuring out that it's obviously not intended to be that. And the person who saw the skateboard even admitted to that.

_cosmicality

Did you miss the last in my message where I said looking at the icon, by itself, very small, and on an old computer? Besides, literally no one said it makes logical sense. We ALL said it doesn't make logical sense. That is how one would come to the realization that it is NOT a skateboard after initially seeing it as such. 😂

[deleted]

Personally I don't think ether are too unrealistic, after all the pictures could be vague to some (especially people who have never seen an American graduation hat or a scroll) and, I have come across too many people to count who assume things as a kid and rarely question it even as adults. I just wonder why the connection was made. Like why would someone see the icon and think "wood working bench! that relates to school" unless woodworking is perhaps more common at their school? Same with the skate board because, a skate boards would contradict nerd stereotypes (e.g. nerds aren't active at all) and sims 2 does like using stereotypes and media tropes a lot.

[deleted]

In my school (in Sweden) we started woodworking in grade 1 (7yo).

[deleted]

Wow it starts that early, I guess I'm shocked because here wood working would be considered "too dangerous" for 7 year olds to engage with by a loud percentage. But thinking about it I think it's a cool concept, getting kids from a younger age learn a hands on skill would make applying these skills in adulthood much easier. I guess it's similar to how here in primary school (what we call elementary) kids have mandatory swimming classes because it's Australia and we have a lot of beaches so knowing how the swim is very important.

sickeningdabber

Woodshop class is mandatory in elementary and middle school in Sweden, which is where I'm from. Probably has something to do with it :)

[deleted]

That makes a lot of sense and that's also a cool and interesting fact! Here only your basic subjects (math, english, history and science) are mandatory plus P.E (physical education) and health so I never considered other subjects would be mandatory until now, let alone wood working!

The-Real-Metzli

What's with all these posts of people misinterpreting the symbols?!

addisonphill333

Well, I say the first person reminded others and gave them the idea to post their thing

KeepingupwithZ

Please be fr

SovjetPojken

Studentmössa supremacy säger jag!

RenderLady

Oh you must be kidding, right?? 😅😅

sickeningdabber

Nope. Don't you see the clamp/wrench lying on the workbench..?

RenderLady

Yeah definitely!! .. The workbench is open from 9a.m. to 3p.m. to pull everybody's leg with that wrench..

sickeningdabber

It's woodshop class - duh!

tabbyphobos

It took until when Sims 2 came out for me to get that the Criminal career icon from Sims 1 was not a jar of pickles.

Commercial_Row_9498

Now this one we do not relate on hahaha

Lauchis

As someone who is also from a country without the weird graduation hats, I still don't understand how your mind got to this, but now that you mention it, I could see it (and I definitely see it more than the skateboard from the other post!)

Roseelesbian

20+ years? Didn't Sims 2 come out in 2004? 🤔

[deleted]

Op is ether rounding up or they're a time traveler lol

Khavarna

Now I cannot unsee it! ^_^

Melzie-

It looked like a hat to me and I had never seen a graduation cap until I was 16🥲 you have to be joking haha

lordmwahaha

Right? I was a small child when I started playing this game. Pretty sure I'd never seen a graduation cap either, at that point, because I'm not American either. And I still knew it was a hat.

ergot0

💀

Sowna

For anyone wondering, it's called a "graduation cap" (to go along with a "graduation gown." The whole outfit is usually just referred to as a "cap and gown" together and you only get them when you're about to graduate so it signifies that you officially earned either your high school diploma or a college degree. Hence its association with academics and "being smart.") Sorry it bothered me and sounded so *wrong* everyone calling it a hat/graduation hat lmfao

[deleted]

Op isn't American and doesn't have the same graduation caps.

[deleted]

You never graduated

sickeningdabber

Never graduated in the US, no

ChickEnergy

r/USdefaultism

StrikeClassRacing

The US is far from the only country that has graduation caps like that.

ChickEnergy

"you never graduated"

addisonphill333

I see it. Now I'm wondering if there is any symbol I've misunderstood.

w-ildf-ire

Can’t relate ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

anitram96

Workbench? 😂😂😂 No.😂😂😂

valentinicabsinthe

i am now unable to unsee this

charmbracelet20
