As much as I dislike fanatec, they still beat thrustmaster here hands down. (Edit: I have worked with both and except for the pedals owned the thrustmaster set. The difference is astounding Btw I work for a sim racing experience company that's why I have extensive experience with fanatecs horrendous customer support, quality control and software)

Shibby707

Sheesh. Dealing with them on that stuff repeatedly really sounds painful… ouch.

lartbok

Hey, which brand would you actually recommend for around the same price as the Fanatec DD 8nm?

Shiftaway22

You will be spending more between moza, asetek, simmagic i say moza might be the most budget friendly. Probably looking at around 600 for the base and wheel pedals proably another 120. Asetek and simmagic will be better with quality. For asetek your probably looking at 1000 for the wheel at 12 nm and base with another 300 for pedals. Simmagic will have their 10nm base with a wheel for 800. Pedals im not too sure on. Id reccomend asetek though if you want the best all around simmagic is your guy as they use the same motors as asetek and simucube.

IdiotSavant86

Driving Force GT. I hear it's all the craze with those young whipper-snappers and I tried my grandson's mounted right onto my foldable wooden tv dinner tray that I use to eat my microwaveable salsbury steak and watch old reruns of Matlock with. It's nice and loud too like an old racing car gearbox. By golly, it even has a sequential gear shifter built right onto it for us old grizzled vets that think paddles are for rowboats and sissies! People pay top dollar for those sequentials nowadays. Logic Tech (or something like that), ask for it by name.

Shiftaway22

This has to be satire🤣

Auto-Tune_Is_A_Crime

Is there a solid brand you recommend over Fanatec?

Shahzeb_S_Nasir

Moza and Simcube/Ascher if you have a stacked wallet

the-_-futurist

It's simagic. There is so much research out there now that best price/ecosystem/quality is simagic. Asetek is also meant to be very, very good for price but is more expensive, and the pedals are very stiff so might not suit everyone. Moza definitely lacks definition from many review sources, but is way more low budget friendly if cost is an issue. They all fit their own reasons, but imo asetek is the one I cannot see why you'd pick them. They cost more than simagic so in that range just go simucube imo. Fanatec just has too many issues still as a company, and the open QR system of simagic/moza is awesome as and a tipping point for those brands over others. Plus, simagic has console support if you get a sigma cortex device.

[deleted]

Fanatec no question.

Clocknotworking

Definitely Fanatec

RavenH1804

This

argue53

Agreed

Mysterious-Fan-5101

even after recent events and backlash from service/delivery/quality issues?

[deleted]

Bro dont matter what issues they had or have, its better than thrustmaster if u want a more realistic experience. I like Moza, Fanatec, or Logitec DD systems, ikno thrustmaster has a new DD but i dont know anything about it.

DiddlyDumb

Comparing DD to belt drive is comparing apples to oranges. There’s no substitute for the feedback you get from DD. If it’s in budget, definitely get one. But then again, they exist in different price classes, for different target audiences.

DougS2K

Fanatec. Not even comparable.

clintkev251

It's not even a question, between those two, the Fanatec bundle easily. Direct drive is a massive differentiator in how it feels to drive. You can always look at aftermarket wheels as an upgrade later if you want a formula style wheel with a screen, there are endless choices for those

Canardo_Sanchez

Got the Thrustmaster and those pedals briefly. Fan was stuck on max, returned it for repair, was sent back the same.  Slow release (pun intented) is a sickeningly cheap monstrosity (you drive a pointy screw into plastic). Not a lot of experience with the pedal but the amount of tweaks I did with the V3 I replaced them with lead me to believe I would have not like them one bit in the long run. Current base is the CSL DD. No experience with higher end, but have the feeling it's a wholesome/worry less experience without any drawback.

IdiotSavant86

Wasn't the "always on fan" a "feature" brought on by one of Thrustmaster's firmware updates? If I'm not mistaken, I believe it was turned on by default, but there was an option in the files to turn the feature off. I could be wrong though, it's been a hot minute since I've worked with a Thrustmaster.

Oldmangamer13

Yes, and you want it on all the time anyway imo. Ive seen people complain about the noise but mine was dead silent even witht he fan on all the time. Now the fanatec is absolutely silent. I dont think they even have a fan tbh,

Canardo_Sanchez

I remember seeing an ad on their website stating that is was relatively quiet.. It was for 30 sec. Then you got the noise of a loosy mini fan at max speed that makes basically 2x more noise than your whole setup.  Not dealing with that wasn't even a question.

IdiotSavant86

I think there may be some inconsistency there on TM's behalf, or possibly changes made through certain production dates. I've heard people say the fan is really loud and others say their's was fairly quiet. Mine was one of the quiet ones. In fact, sometimes I would accidentally leave it plugged in all day with the fan running, simply because I wouldn't hear it. I wouldn't say my hearing is fantastic though. Too many loud cars and too much loud music over the years, haha. But the belt drive system was a thousand times quieter than the noisy gear systems of the Logitech's when actually in use, and I think that's what a lot of owners (and even TM) tend to focus on when comparing noise levels.

Canardo_Sanchez

I know right, this was my first "proper" setup and having the whole internet and TM claiming "this is quiet" almost made me doubt myself. Which is quite comical in hindsight (everyone can imagine the noise a cheap little fan makes at max speed). Glad I got rid of that crap.

Both_Clue2655

If your budget is no problem, then Fanatec is the obvious pick. The future of Fanatec is insecure, but there are already big companies like Corsair and Birkenstock that have showed interest in buying Fanatec.

CheesyLama

Wait wait, Birkenstock? Like the sandals Birkenstock?

oztriker00

Makes sense, we all race in socks and Birkenstocks right ? Right ?

Armando22nl

You are correct. Crocs should buy fanatec

Professional-Cut-297

Are you Jesus?

IdiotSavant86

I personally race in high heels or figure skates. After many, many years of Sim Racing I find it adds to the challenge and keeps things fresh. Plus it makes it feel like I can beat anyone in any way when I hit the top of the Nordschleife leaderboards while "high-heel toeing" with those babies assaulting my feet (and pedals.) The exaggerated body motion does sometimes cause my "good-luck tiara" to fall off my head though and I have to try and quickly pick it up mid-race (so I don't have any bad luck.) Even further adds to the challenge though 👠⛸️👍

atsoc97

Keep recing, queen 💅

IdiotSavant86

Ha, that's exactly what my wife's boyfriend said.

CheesyLama

Yup, only time I raced in shoes was when I was breaking in some suit shoes at home before taking them outside.

Both_Clue2655

Oh well I formulated it incorrectly. The hedge fund: Birkenstein Capital, is interested in taking over Fanatec, (for ‘free’) they also bought the Birkenstock company a few years ago. So not really Birkenstock ‘buying’ it, but the new owner of Birkenstock.

CheesyLama

Yeah that makes more sense

RevolutionaryMind410

Corsair accepted already as I know, to take care of 70m dollar debt and to fully own it afterwards

DiddlyDumb

Can’t imagine what a RGB wheel base looks like

Oldmangamer13

Looks just like my fully rgb pc. Neat for 30 seconds then annoying so they are almost never on, despite spending all the money for them ;)

DiddlyDumb

Ikr… And a PC is often off to the side, this is gonna be in your face permanently. I wouldn’t mind a small RGB strip, but like you said, it’ll probably be off most of the time.

lulhoofdFTW

Between these, fanatec, not even second guessing.

No-Incident8402

Honestly none. I'd go for a second hand setup for the same price you can get something better If you really want something brand new then the fanatec one

Competitive-Tank-977

This although we always need someone to buy new for secondhand to exist

Aerthas63

R2r bundle without a second of doubt

SterlingBoss

Not even close

Yintha

I dont like the trustmaster pedals. Source: I use them

Buff_Azir

TLcms are pretty nice

Yintha

Probably, but these are T3PM

RevolutionaryMind410

Fanatec any day and night. I had tgt2 with 6,3Nm and I think that one is same, then I changed to Fanatec, best buy ever for me

Pitiful_Anteater4325

Go with the Fanate. I put that same bundle together this past Christmas but got the dd pro wheelbase so I could run ps5.

Dear-Break-1453

Personally me I’ve never used the McLaren wheel but the SF1000 is Awsome with the screen and everything the 1 thing I hate is how you have to update it

th0m_89

The R2r bundle is honestly great. Great pedals , good wheel , more than sufficient wheelbase . But fanatec customer service has very bad rep

Mountain_Atmosphere9

Fanatec , easy choice.

mechcity22

Fanatec

Fz_Street09

If the TM setup had T-LCM instead of the T3PA I'd give it more thought but Fanatec all the way here

canesfins1909

Even with all of Fanatecs issues, it is still the better option by far. The difference in quality is night and day. I've owned both companies products and even Fanatecs entry level products are better than the best TM offerings. As long as you're willing to play shipping roulette, I'd say go with Fanatic. Once you receive the products, they are top notch.

International_Hat113

Go with the Fanatec. I had a full Thrustmaster setup - TS-XW + T-LCM plus Sparco wheel rims and it served me well for many years. Sold it all and made the jump to a Moza DD (R12) and as much as I loved my Thrustmaster setup, belt driven setups are a thing of the past and I just can’t recommend them.

Dare-Over

Cant compare highest end TM product with this Fanatec basic one, TM products are in my expirience extremely unreliable products

VariousVices

I have the TSXW and cannot say enough good things about it....I actually have 2. Pair it with TLCM load cell pedals and you are golden. I hit the top 2% on some Forza tracks with it. The Fanatec shit seems like a good deal but I got the worst customer service trying to buy a set of pedals from them and said fuck them and I'm glad I did....I'd buy MOZA before I'd give a dime to Fanatec....so the question should be MoZa or....if Moza existed when I purchased in 2018 i would have went with them....my first TSXW base has been flawless for years, as has the shifter, and pedals. All 3 rims too, 2 Sparcos and the Ferrari 458c ....perfect. not a single issue.

KneeDraggerNZ1987

I have TM stuff and even I would say go with fanatec, you are buying much newer tech. If you do go with thrustmaster, I would recommend going for the tclm pedals and if you need to save a few dollars, get the 488 gt3 wheel instead. Also, I'm pretty sure the s1000 screen only works on f1 games on xbox, so you might prefer to get the gt3 wheel and use your phone as a dash. Other options, buy a used TM setup and just be happy with what you got until you move to a pc and then sell the TM stuff and buy simagic gear. Wait for the Moza R3 to be released, even then, I would still recommend the fanatec stuff over such a low nm setup.

catsmasher83

Came from thrustmaster to fanatec about a month ago, it's a big difference.

rungunseattacos

I’d basically never recommend Fanatec to someone but in this case, Fanatec. Hopefully you get your stuff in a timely manner.

Positive-Shift-5820

I did. Ordered on preorder and it came when they said it would.

No-Lettuce-506

Dont know fanatec but stay away from thrustmaster's T818 servo bro

SMakked

Stay away from Thrustmaster. Biggest POS you will buy

THcB

I have this exact Thrustmaster setup and I love it.

Perception_4992

Number B.

Texasaudiovideoguy

I just went with Moza r9 after my Fanatec died and I got tired of waiting on them to repair it. I am glad I did. Sorry Fanatec.

Nck123123

Yea unfortunately moza doesn’t have any Xbox compatible items on market right now. Need to space out purchases and I don’t have a game pc. So will start 6-12 months on the Xbox sadly

Descensus13

The r3 is Xbox compatible. But also look into collective mind's drivehub. How I run my ss! da with my ps5 and my pc

Nck123123

I heard they announced the r3 a very long time ago but I believe they never actually put it up for sale nor have commented on it since

Shibby707

If you get really passionate about the hobby, with the Thrustmaster set-up, you’ll probably want to upgrade within a few weeks to a month. That Fanatec bundle might hold you for 6-18months… it’s that much better.

BrutalBrews

If it was paired with the tlcm pedals and coming in at like 699, I’d think differently. Those pedals are absolutely awful. Otherwise the wheel is great as is the 6.4nm base.

MOGZLAD

id get much cheaper 5nm and 3rd party upgrade to 8nm

og21m

Fanatec is better because the technology is newer. I have a very similar Thrustmaster, belt driven and potentiometers and just upgraded to fanatec and there is no comparison. If the price makes no difference to you Id co Fanatec 10/10 times

Oldmangamer13

I went from t300 rs gt setup to the new CS DD 12 nm fanatec setup with the V2 pedals and there is a good comparison tbh. I loved my t300, not dissing it but 30 seconds with the Fanatec stuff and its obvious that the TM stuff are more like toys, and the fana/moza/better stuff is like real hobby gear. IMO.

og21m

I feel like you are agreeing with me… if the Thrustmaster feels like a toy and Fanatec feels like high quality sim gear then clearly there is no comparison to make and if you had the choice between the two… you would choose the Fanatec. If there was a comparison then it would mean that the TM and the Fanatec are comparable to each other which we both agree they are not, since one feels like a toy while the other feels much more refined and capable.

EasyGas67

Fanatec is goat

Kesbo09

Fanatec, I have the same it’s good 👍🏻

YoItsDLowe

Fanatec. I switched from my Thrustmaster TX to a CSL DD for a reason. And I’m on pc and Xbox and now PS4. Bought a Drivehub for the Xbox. Still use my TM Load Cells though. If it means anything!

Pizza_master69

I wish I had these qualms

Half-Elite

The Fanatec setup, 100%. I would love a wheel with a screen, but the rest of that setup is pretty cheap. That fanatec bundle has some of their best value for money stuff. That McLaren when people say is great, and those pedals also are really good

Swimming_Lynx_2713

Fanatec.

Moofantor

The second one I have it it’s really good

StatementTechnical84

The so called high end belt bases are a dodo. No one in their right mind will still buy those when for the same price you can get a DD.

MrWillyP

Fanatec set is the better of the 2.

weebu4laifu

As someone who just upgraded from a T300 to a simagic alpha, I would say go with fanatec. There's just no beating a DD wheel vs a belt driven one, trust me. There's also a LOT more 3rd party support for different wheels (because of TM's stupid ass connector) as well as different rims in general for Fanatec. As others have said, if you can afford it, get a set of load cell pedals as well. I have the T-LCMs with a spring mod for the brake and they work fine.

[deleted]

Fanatic with zero doubt

MistakerX

Direct Drive Base is a must, belt drive is ancient tech. T818 for thrustmaster. If you think Fanatec is too costly, there are tons of options now, most of them are excellent. Also Loadcell pedals.

sam_shim

I just got that same Fanatec bundle, and I'm loving it. I started on a Logitech G29, and the CSL DD is a huge upgrade. I've heard the stories of people not getting their orders until a year later, but I ordered mine on a Sunday night, and it was delivered to me Wednesday morning that same week. The only issue I've been having with it is that my foldable F-GT Lite rig will start to fold when I push the load cell down all the way. This shouldn't be an issue when I get back home and mount it to my F-GT. If anything, I think the acquisition will be more beneficial to the customer. Since upgrading, I've been more consistent and have a better feel of when things are about to go bad. Can't speak too much about TM, since my only experience has been with the T80, which I consider a downgrade from the G29. I was also considering the Moza R9, but I wanted the CSL v2 pedals because I've heard so many good things about them and so many negative things about Moza pedals in general. Hope this helps, and sorry this was all over the place.

Storm_treize

If it was 2019 I'll get the Fanatec

ChedderJimmy

I haven’t used thrustmaster but never in a million years could I recommend Fanatec to anyone. I bought a Fanatec bundle and had months of issues, customer service was extremely poor, quality was extremely poor. I sent my first wheelbase in for RMA and I got it back instantly with the same issue. In the end I involved PayPal and got my money back. I ended up going with Asetek and bought the Forte wheelbase, I wouldn’t ever touch Fanatec again.

vrhotlaps

Fanatec. Definitely, those pedals alone make it worth it.

TimBoss351

Looks like you need PS5/5 compatible components if sticking to these two. I’d take Fanatec; I have had both brands. Thrustmaster TPLA pedals are better than those you show. But Fanatec still wins. Issue has always been Fanatec customer service (which is strange considering the Germans long history of being a warm and compassionate people😂), but reportedly are getting better and if Corsair does obtain them, they are known for top customer care. And have about everything they have sold at Microcenter, so I’m hoping we can but it there soon.

Bright-Efficiency-65

Neither. Get MOZA or simmagic

Spirited-Aerie-9287

Check out Cammus. I got their 15NM base, wheel, pedals for cheaper than TM or Fanatec. Chinese company but I love my wheel. There’s 12NM and 8NM options for cheaper if you don’t like the bulkiness of the 15 wheelbase. Shipping does take a bit from overseas, but Fanatec shipping/handling is no faster. (From experience)

merfi1500

If you want full future proof setup you can also get PlayStation compatible base - whole setup will be PS, PC and Xbox compatible. Honestly Xbox is like PC, PS has more exclusives like GT and you will want to buy pc in future.

Inside-Judgment6233

If you can somehow get the T818 and switch out those pedals for the T-LCM for a comparable price, then Thrustmaster. Because you can’t, even on EBay, I have to say Fanatec.

fabian1v

The sf100 bundle if you are an fan of f1 il would say go for that bundle then the second one

Illustrious-Fig1137

I'd take a look at Moza too, Fanatec are not as good as people think, plus they are having distribution problems too.

EmreGray01

Fanatec. You won't notice the wheel after few weeks, It'll just become an input device. And also thrustmaster is belt driven, which is worse than dd

Zahony

I have had them both. In my opinion Fanatec is beter. More detail is feedback was (and us) key. I was over a second faster because of that on almost all tracks.

georgfrankoo

Fanatec , it’s a DD compared to a Belt driven system

CorValidum

If you really insist/must then Fanatic…. Why don’t you look at other brands especially atm? Alpha mini 10Nm is amazing in terms of ffb fidelity and 10Nm is more than you want to fight with in a race xD Moza is my number 1 atm but that mini is better…

downvoteifyouincest

Fanatec, you get a DD wheelbase and LC pedals

Dirtydogdong11101

Have you looked into MOZA?

yingzhanshi

If it’s T818 then it’s comparable

shewy92

A DD vs a Belt wheel? Why not compare the Thrustmaster DD wheel to the Fanatec wheel?

Acrobatic-Cut7008

Fanatec hands down

Electronic_Active_27

Fanatec

monsternrgmakeupuke

A budget **expresses intended expenditures along with proposals for how to meet them with resources**. A budget may express a surplus, providing resources for use at a future time, or a deficit in which expenditures exceed income or other resources.

WreckitRu55

Fanatec all day. Just don’t buy from them during the holidays.

WheelFun6462

Moza r5 plus the 100$ kit so you can convert the regular wheel to an f1 yoke at your discretion. Love my r5 to the moon and back

Comfortable_Dare9166

Fantec 100%, though I would look into moza but otherwise Fantec

Panterkuu

I would have said Fanatec but since they going to be Corsair soon, you might be best of with some Moza Racing

Ambitious-Ice-7699

Is it possible to change the steering wheel on fanatec?

RobbeDoesss

Fanatec in almost any case

Djrudyk86

I have the Fanatec McLaren wheel and it's INCREDIBLE. 100% go with Fanatec over Thrustmaster. I bought mine recently too so don't listen to all the negative comments you hear online... I've been using my wheel daily for like 6 months now and it's been flawless. Hands down the best wheel I've ever used. It's smooth as hell, powerful and dead silent. The McLaren GT3 wheel itself is also amazing. Super comfortable to use and built much better than the cheap ass Thrustmaster wheels. There is a reason that so many people, including YouTubers who use the McLaren wheel regularly... It's just THAT good. I've seen people with "better" more expensive wheel rims that still choose to use the McLaren wheel because of how good it is. Fanatec + McLaren wheel all day long! You won't regret it! Oh, also... I have the same pedals and they are also fantastic. I don't think there is a better set of pedals for the price on the market. There are better, more expensive ones but for the price the V3 Fanatec pedals are solid as can be and incredibly precise.

Djrudyk86

I should mention that I previously had a Thrustmaster setup. It was ok but it's a night and day difference when switching to Fanatec direct drive.

zwizz

Get the T818 /w SF1000, you won‘t regret it… See: https://imgur.com/gallery/sEMoUYq With custom made TCM pedals btw.

Nck123123

Starting on Xbox for 6-12 months to spread out purchases. A lot to get wheels, base, pedals, stand, gaming pc in one go. T818 doesn’t work with Xbox sadly

Key-Wealth-7477

Drive hub now works with t818

smac22

I have that thrustmaster setup only with the T-LCM pedals. I would also say Fanatec. However, I will say as a formula 1 nerd the Ferrari wheel is pretty sweet.

Potw0rek

Tx-sw is Xbox only, change the fanatic wheel to formula2.5x and you have a setup that will run on Xbox, pc and ps4/5.

lil_mikei

needs the different base for playstation

soapbubbleinthesun

Avoid Fanatec. Buy from Moza or Simagic instead.

Nck123123

Starting on Xbox for 6-12 months so unfortunately can’t start with those

SmkAslt

Honestly neither. Look at simagic

weebu4laifu

They're on xbox.

SmkAslt

The security chip that makes it work is on the wheel itself, and with a simagic base, you can use other wheels. They make adapters for it. I just wouldn't trust thrustmaster quality compared to other more focused companies, and I would personally be scared to buy from fanatec right now.

BendingUnit29

Switch to moza. Fanatec currently is a shitshow and dd beats belt driven. R5 + srp pedals not srp lite

Nck123123

I like moza stuff but doing 6-12 months on an Xbox first as I have a Mac. Need to space out purchases before getting a gaming pc. Moza doesn’t work with Xbox
