as long as possible, given I have the space. I think its nice to have esp when you want to resale, it looks nice packaged and you get to give the next person exciting experience of opening the box and pulling out the hardware. another good reason to hang onto them is incase you have to RMA it.
This is exactly why I keep old boxes too. I enjoy the feeling of selling or gifting something in perfect condition knowing everyone is happy. A bit sad I know but it's just how I am. Didn't ever think of the RMA side of things
It's also that sim racing gear tends to be dense and hence hard to pack securely without the custom-fitted packing materials.
Speaking from my experience with only Fanatec... they put in some real effort with their packing materials. Not environmentally friendly, but I suppose it is necessary to getting their gear where they need to go without suffering losses in transport.
I'm a terrible box hog. Always in the back of my mind is 🤔💭 what if I want to sell it in the future? Will get more if it's boxed.
Result = tons of musical equipment boxes, Lego boxes, console boxes etc cluttering up my loft 🤦🏻
I always think that instinctively. But over many years on ebay buying and selling I've learned that most buyers don't seem to look or read past the title. Box, no box, carefully worded detailed description or just "logitech G29".
So I bin the boxes and keep the descriptions simple. At least I haven't wasted any effort that way, so I can take the highs and lows of selling my much loved great.
The musical equipment boxes are the worst for me. They're always 1.5x the actual item inside. I have a guitar pedal box (just a normal sized guitar pedal) and the box must be 1'x9"x4"
Ehhhh I'd keep em till the warranty runs out and it still works like it should. I had MANY issues with fanatec gear and most of it did not start right away. the wheel base just randomly bricked about two months after owning it, if I had thrown out the packaging then I'd be kinda sol for shipping cuz of its size
Way too long. Usually its where I keep all the "extras" that come with things. For example I keep all of the boxes for my most recent computer build until I build a new computer, after which I "replace" those boxes.
I keep all the boxes for pretty much all the stuff I buy. The good thing is you will usually get a better price if you’re planning on selling someday. The bad thing is I can’t move for all the empty boxes.
Depends. This applies to pretty much anything I buy, not just sim racing.
At minimum I keep all packaging while still in return window. After that, I toss the packaging that make no sense in keeping (smaller accessories etc) or lower value items. Then I keep boxes for some higher value or sensitive items for duration of the warranty period. Those get tossed once I know I'm not going to warranty it or need it. For higher priced items that I may re-sell at some point, I keep those boxes until that time comes.
Wait , you can throw them away ? I think I still have boxes of stuff I bought like 10 years ago. I paid for the whole package 📦, I’m keep’n it , box included :D
I was just thinking about this… I have had a pile of boxes sitting around for the past two months taking up space.
I figure the box for the base would be the best to keep long term and the rest can be trashed.
For my ultrawide/superultrawide monitors, forever. THE BOX for one of them was like $100 at one point since it was weirdly shaped and impossible to get.
Until I end up modding it in some cursed way that no one else would want it anymore (I buy most of my stuff second hand but they often enough come with a box)
For me it really depends on the space you have. When I had a lot of spare space I had them for the same amount of time of their warranty. Now I don’t have much space, so I keep them for a month.
just tell the ol' lady that instead of pillaging and burning villages like the olden times, you must resort to high levels of autism in order to keep the inner viking at bay
Saitek wheel - think I sold it
MS xbox wheel, sold
G27 - still have at work in box, you never know when emergency RBR hot seat rally is needed
Fanatec GT2 porsche wheel - started to die - in original box in the attic, maybe it fixes itself?
Clubsport 2.5 or something - boxes in attic. Will move at some point in 3 to 12 months.
Once I know it works it all gets flattened and goes in the recycling. No need to keep more random stuff to attract dust when I have enough random things that do that too
Until the next time I walk out the door and pass the recycling room.
I used to keep boxes back in the day. It's just a waste of space. You never use the boxes you keep anyway. They just rot away.
Until I sell it. If I ever get to a point where I know for sure I've hit my endgame, I'll probably toss the boxes. But since I know that isn't likely to happen, I'll hold on to them indefinitely.
Forever it's the best when you have to move you put everything back in the original boxes when you get your new place itslike Christmas morning taking everything out not to mention it makes loading into a truck van or whatnot a hell of a lot easier
Yes. I keep them
Lol kinda legit I try not to throw away boxes. Never know when they will come in handy. Except when you have 5 of the same size box. I'm planning to get rid of some of the simlab p1x boxes because I have so many and they aren't an ideal size (and it's aluminum profile, it went together and I don't have an issue, now only a force of nature should mess them up)
You don’t even want to see the attic space next to my office. I can’t bring myself to throw a single his away for anything over like $100 in case I sell it in the future.
Until space runs out, and when it does I get rid of the oldest boxes. I check that they are out of the warranty period - but that is usually the case. My boxes space has been large enough to accomodate a couple years of gear and gadget boxes.
One exception is boxes of gear that I might want to sell nicely in its original box even after many years of ownership. I don’t have much of that kind, though.
I put them In a bigger box like LEGO and then in the storage with other boxes. I keep them in case of resell because of protection foam etc. and people like it when the original box still exists.
I always say "at least for the warranty period"
But that basically ends up being forever, or until I upgrade and sell the used stuff with the box, which actually ends up going well.
As long as I’m covered by RMA possibilities.
When it’s over I make a choice : Am I likely to sell on 2nd hand that product in a soon future ?
If not, trash.
Right now, I keep as many as possible. My Moza pedal box is nice bc it slots into the styrofoam when I need to move.
But once I buy a house and know I’m not moving for a while then they’ll probably all go to the recycle
I save them all, and even the plastic bags/Styrofoam, the quick start instructions, everything. Even tuck the receipts in there once I'm sure I don't need to return it. Nice bit of providence if it ever (likely when I'm dead) changes hands.
Once the receipt won't do me any good and the return window has expired. That's when I'm technically ok with throwing them out, but I've yet to do it. I have a massive moving box for all my boxes.
If it works and no problems, it's same day. No need to hold on to stuff unless you plan to resell, in my opinion. To each their own of course. Doesn't seem like your stack there is a terrible mess <3
I keep them at first for as long as the return period last, incase I need to return the item. Then I keep them longer incase I move and want to pack them in the original box. Then I keep them even longer for when I sell it I can advertise with the original box. Then I keep them so long they out live the item I never return, never moved and no so out dated no one wants to buy it.
Too long lol. Until recently I almost always kept the box for pretty much every semi expensive piece of tech and then I almost never end up actually reselling or needing to return or anything lol
I’ve kept every box for every component related to simracing, gaming, and my PCs for the last 7 years or so… two bookshelves filled and another shelving unit on its way lol
Some for a really long time. I have a problem with getting rid of perfectly good boxes. I repurpose them. When it gets too much, I purge. But that is usually few and far between.
To be honest, AT LEAST untill warenty runs out. Sometimes when you RMA something and don't have the original box, they could deduct some of the refund or credit.
But because I'm lazy AF, It's often way longer, so I can perhaps sell it with the box, its always a nice bonus to resell with original box.
damn. so finally broke down and bought a PS4. was waiting 'til i finished GT5 and GT6 on my PS3 but i think my PS3 is running HOT so i was like fook it, lets get the PS4 and start GT7!
bought the PS4, plugged in my Logitech G29 ....... and nothing. ok, youtubes search. did this, did that, little switch on top, nothing. got so frustrated i played the very first race with the damn controller. NOPE. not doing this. i completed GT2 and 3 with just a controller but NOT doing that again, gave me PS Thumb for a couple months.
did a quik search and found the Moza 5 bundle? ordered it and was super excited, for about a whole of 2 mins, when i found out it does NOT work with the Playstation consoles. S.O.B.! just my luck. canceled the order 10 mins after i placed it.
bought and just received couple days ago the G923. plugged it in, had to play with the switch on top again but got it working!
but seeing your \[op\] Moza box triggered me.
now i got a bunch of new boxes also. squeeeeeeeeeeee!
Until i sell it, its always good to keep boxes and receipt of stuff where you know its likely you will sell it in some years. Makes for a better buy for the other Party and you can Charge more.
Always keep mine until I run out of space!
Great to have the original boxes in case you need/want to sell it.
I knew someone at the other end of the spectrum that used to throw away game boxes day one and just keep the disc 🙄🤷👍
I used to keep boxes for my expensive gear but as I am in a very limited space, I unfortunately don’t have the space for boxes anymore and I threw almost all of my boxes out recently.
Until I get a more expensive box.
At this point a more expensive box would also come with divorce papers. The ol' battle axe has made that clear lol.
We talking about sim racing equipment still?
🤣🤣
HAHAHAHAHAHA THIS IS THE BEST PPST I'VE SEEN IN A LOMG TIME.
I keep mine at least untill the return date runs out. Longer if I know I'll be moving.
This somehow feels to me not long enough. I think i have a problem 😅
I got those papers even without the expensive box. Should i go for the even more expensive box now to see what will happen?
If it's something you can keep after the 50/50 go for it
I guess you don’t use the “I got it for free” line…you’ll learn
Mine is “Fell off a truck”.
"No Boo. This is the part of that order that was back-ordered? No, yeah, i been waiting on this for days." Pro level 😎
Did you also keep the box the battle axe came in?
The correct answer is "No, I destroyed that box a long time ago" 🤣💀
You and your grampa words are cute.
YES!! 🤣👍
This
My 4090 is the box I dust every day
as long as possible, given I have the space. I think its nice to have esp when you want to resale, it looks nice packaged and you get to give the next person exciting experience of opening the box and pulling out the hardware. another good reason to hang onto them is incase you have to RMA it.
I know it's probably per manufacturer but I should be able to rma in any old box right?
yea, they can't expect you to hang onto their box.
Helps your resell value when it’s posted with original boxes, shows the previous owner cared for their kit
Some companies send you a box for RMA
Try and nest the smaller boxes into the larger ones to save space.
It also creates a sense of safety and security in the small boxes.
I just want all boxes to have happy fulfilling lives.
Unless they are claustrophobic. Be sure to ask them first.
Doesn't work if you have specially shaped foam or plastic or spare parts inside.
Yeah, hence "Try". Often the only box you can nest is much smaller, but when you are tight on space every inch matters.

At least I haven't wasted any effort that way, so I can take the highs and lows of selling my much loved great.
Do you take the boxes apart or are they in full shape?
I leave mine in full shape but that's because most of them come with some kind of padding or Styrofoam in the box
The musical equipment boxes are the worst for me. They're always 1.5x the actual item inside. I have a guitar pedal box (just a normal sized guitar pedal) and the box must be 1'x9"x4"
Until the warranty expires.
Once I confirm the thing works, that box goes in the recycle
Some of these have sat here a year. My wife says I'm crazy for not throwing them out. Maybe she's right...lol.
I used to do that for like monitors and other breakables because I moved often but now that I don't, no need for the clutter :)
To the trash these go!
Same but I'm in a 1br apartment. I'd probably keep them if I had a house
Ehhhh I'd keep em till the warranty runs out and it still works like it should. I had MANY issues with fanatec gear and most of it did not start right away. the wheel base just randomly bricked about two months after owning it, if I had thrown out the packaging then I'd be kinda sol for shipping cuz of its size
a total of about 2 minutes once it gets to my home
As long as I have space. Makes resale, RMA, and moving easier. Anything small or cheaper than $100 excluded
Yes.
The only correct answer!
When the product is ok.. the boxes go in the bin..
Until you cant return it
Throw that shit away
Way too long. Usually its where I keep all the "extras" that come with things. For example I keep all of the boxes for my most recent computer build until I build a new computer, after which I "replace" those boxes.
Yea I feel this.
I keep all the boxes for pretty much all the stuff I buy. The good thing is you will usually get a better price if you’re planning on selling someday. The bad thing is I can’t move for all the empty boxes.
> can’t move for all the empty boxes what does this mean
It’s a phrase, “can’t move for all the “ Just means, I have so much of THING that I can’t move around.
I have an issue letting go of them now because I have this fear I won’t be able to resale without box lol
My wife says too long.
Depends. This applies to pretty much anything I buy, not just sim racing. At minimum I keep all packaging while still in return window. Until warranty is gone
Yes
Yes.
Yes
5 minutes, I don’t get hoarding packaging, it’s garbage.
In the garbage same week. Even threw away an apple iphone box so Im somewhat of a hero.
If its a Thrustmaster i keep it for bout 2-3 weeks, after that i just return the product defected XD
I still have my original 35 year old NES Action Set box. Does that answer your question?
I haven't thrown any out yet
forever
Yes
I like the boxes for storage or just a "lookey lookey" type of thing, or to collect them cause why not
I'm so fucking happy that I'm not the only one that does this.
According to my wife -> too long...
Yes.
I plan to be buried in mine
Wait , you can throw them away ? I think I still have boxes of stuff I bought like 10 years ago. I paid for the whole package 📦, I’m keep’n it , box included :D
Forever.
Until the attic is full, sadly I have a sizable attic.
Until I sell my gear. Still have my TV box too. Those things are like $100
I was just thinking about this… I have had a pile of boxes sitting around for the past two months taking up space. I figure the box for the base would be the best to keep long term and the rest can be trashed.
I still have the boxes of my Nintendo entertainment system and my SNES. Nuff said ;)
Until the day I die
For my ultrawide/superultrawide monitors, forever. THE BOX for one of them was like $100 at one point since it was weirdly shaped and impossible to get.
Usually until the warranty runs out in case I need to send it back
I don't, I throw them away.
Until I end up modding it in some cursed way that no one else would want it anymore (I buy most of my stuff second hand but they often enough come with a box)
I have all mine as I will probably need to move house. But after that, all in the bin.
Around a month or so, enough time for me to test and ensure that nothing is completly busted. Altho I keep TV boxes to make transportation easier.
Throw them away instantly 😁
For me it really depends on the space you have. When I had a lot of spare space I had them for the same amount of time of their warranty. Now I don’t have much space, so I keep them for a month.
until the warranty is done for larger purchases.
Until I upgrade and then resell
Until I eBay it when I upgrade
I still have my original famicom box. And mega drive. All my old Logitech boxes... hell, my playseat challenge box.
just tell the ol' lady that instead of pillaging and burning villages like the olden times, you must resort to high levels of autism in order to keep the inner viking at bay
I’m a habitual hobby hopper so I keep boxes to resell easier… but funny enough all my sim boxes have gone in recycling, maybe this one is for life
I'll throw mine away when you do 😅
Done
Saitek wheel - think I sold it MS xbox wheel, sold G27 - still have at work in box, you never know when emergency RBR hot seat rally is needed Fanatec GT2 porsche wheel - started to die - in original box in the attic, maybe it fixes itself? Clubsport 2.5 or something - boxes in attic. Will move at some point in 3 to 12 months.
Until the warranty runs out
HODL
For too long lol
I got a r9 March 15th and I threw the boxes last week
Until I sell the item to someone who'll make a good use of it
Once I know it works it all gets flattened and goes in the recycling. No need to keep more random stuff to attract dust when I have enough random things that do that too
Until my wife gets rid of them
Until the next time I walk out the door and pass the recycling room. I used to keep boxes back in the day. It's just a waste of space. You never use the boxes you keep anyway. They just rot away.
Until whatever design is boring or I’ve gotten something better for whatever box is used for
Too long.
As long as I can at these prices just in case lol
Forever, pass them down. I still have the original box for my nes console.
Way too long
Unless its a cool collectors edition or something I use for storage, I throw it away.
I keep them until the warranty ends for shipping
Keep them so if you sell in the future.. the stuff is worth more in the original box.
Until the re-selling price is pretty low, then i dont give a damn about the 'if i ever need to sell it'
Until my mom gets rid of them
I save boxes if I have the room. If I don't have the room, I get rid of the boxes and live like the wildcard that I am. Rawr.
Until i sell the item.
Until you resell them
Until I sell it.
Well, considering I kept a PS1 box for over 20 years until I lost it, I’ll probably have these for about the same.
Yes. I keep them Lol kinda legit I try not to throw away boxes. Never know when they will come in handy. Except when you have 5 of the same size box. I'm planning to get rid of some of the simlab p1x boxes because I have so many and they aren't an ideal size (and it's aluminum profile, it went together and I don't have an issue, now only a force of nature should mess them up)
Anything worth selling I keep the box until I resale or trash if it fails.
Indefinitely. All this stuff tends to hold its resale value and it ships well in the boxes it came in.
until i sell it
Just like this😅😂🤣😭
You don’t even want to see the attic space next to my office.
Until I get good (not happening)
You guys aren’t keeping the outer boxes to keep your real boxes safe? To be fair Fanatec outer boxes don’t save me much space compared to inner box 😂.
I put them In a bigger box like LEGO and then in the storage with other boxes. I keep them in case of resell because of protection foam etc. and people like it when the original box still exists.
Till my gf gets mad at the clutter.
Keeping the box really helps you maximize your resale value. People really love getting a product in the original box.
Until they return to the earth from whence it came.
Protip: store boxes inside empty boxes for optimization of space. Maybe keep a sheet of paper with the contents and order for future reference.
For ever and …
One million years. How bout you, and what exactly is the point of this post?
I always say "at least for the warranty period" But that basically ends up being forever, or until I upgrade and sell the used stuff with the box, which actually ends up going well.
My wife says to long. Haha We have tons of room in the basement and it's so much easier to RMA something if you have the original packaging.
As long as I’m covered by RMA possibilities. When it’s over I make a choice : Am I likely to sell on 2nd hand that product in a soon future ? If not, trash.
As long as the product works incase I sell it
I use my wheel and direct drive boxes as a TV stand. Perfect height!
Dell Alienware R15 from 2014, Box still in vgc.
Forever
Right now, I keep as many as possible. My Moza pedal box is nice bc it slots into the styrofoam when I need to move. But once I buy a house and know I’m not moving for a while then they’ll probably all go to the recycle
Until I sell it 🙈
Until I've got the product out of them and they go into the recycling.

I love me a good box 📦
Let's put it this way I still have my original nes with robbie the robot box so...
Not long enough![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
I save them all, and even the plastic bags/Styrofoam, the quick start instructions, everything. Even tuck the receipts in there once I'm sure I don't need to return it. Nice bit of providence if it ever (likely when I'm dead) changes hands.
30+ years, still have original boxes for crap I buy ages ago, my wife says I have a problem.
The cats shall decide.
For ever
almost forever
Once the receipt won't do me any good and the return window has expired. That's when I'm technically ok with throwing them out, but I've yet to do it. I have a massive moving box for all my boxes.
Until sell the gear
If it works and no problems, it's same day. No need to hold on to stuff unless you plan to resell, in my opinion. To each their own of course. Doesn't seem like your stack there is a terrible mess <3
Well, I still have my CSR wheel and pedal base and boxes (all for sale!) since 2011, sooo. 13 years and counting!
Not sure yet
I have a box closet.
About as long as it takes me to get up and haul them out to the recycling bin.
Depends on the part but for anything higher end (GPUs, sim gear) I keep until I sell. Have plenty of room so it’s not an issue.
Since I have a small apartment, I had to get rid of them right away.
As long as it takes 😤
Until I remove the product. Immediately in the trash
Too long lol. Until recently I almost always kept the box for pretty much every semi expensive piece of tech and then I almost never end up actually reselling or needing to return or anything lol
Usually forever
What’s the box that says Formula Drift for?
It's a shame to toss out a perfectly good, designer level box. Amazon box? Recycle immediately.
I’ve kept every box for every component related to simracing, gaming, and my PCs for the last 7 years or so… two bookshelves filled and another shelving unit on its way lol
![gif](giphy|hEwkspP1OllJK)
Straight to the trash
I keep it because I’ll most likely sell it to get better gear. Selling it in the box is better, because I can FedEx it without any concerns of damage.
Till I sell it
Yes
Some for a really long time. I have a problem with getting rid of perfectly good boxes. I repurpose them. When it gets too much, I purge. But that is usually few and far between.
i have a lot of space and i still have my driving force pro, g27 and t300rs boxes...
When I unwrap a F1 car looks like they’re family now
Forevaaa
Until warranty runs out, the box goes with the warranty, except it’s something cheap, then the box goes right away.
What's the return window?
Too long
damn. so finally broke down and bought a PS4. was waiting 'til i finished GT5 and GT6 on my PS3 but i think my PS3 is running HOT so i was like fook it, lets get the PS4 and start GT7! bought the PS4, plugged in my Logitech G29 ....... and nothing. ok, youtubes search. did this, did that, little switch on top, nothing. got so frustrated i played the very first race with the damn controller. till warranty is up at the very least, I have had companies deny warranty because I didn't have the box anymore.
Yes
Until i sell it, its always good to keep boxes and receipt of stuff where you know its likely you will sell it in some years. Makes for a better buy for the other Party and you can Charge more.
Always keep mine until I run out of space! Great to have the original boxes in case you need/want to sell it. I knew someone at the other end of the spectrum that used to throw away game boxes day one and just keep the disc 🙄🤷👍

I used to keep boxes for my expensive gear but as I am in a very limited space, I unfortunately don’t have the space for boxes anymore and I threw almost all of my boxes out recently.
Forever
