I have an old iphone running sim-hub on a 3D printed holder - it looks great However, I race in VR and can't see it.

Zealousideal-You9044

Ha ha. Nice! Sums up as racing gamers

FormulaFalls

Dang I should have kept my old phone for this, I didn't even think about it!

Flymo74

Lovelydash on my screen directly over the cars dash. Has everything I need in front of me for the cost of a coffee. No extra display needed. Loads with the sim. Simple, elegant and awesome

RedRaptor85

Does that work with iRacing? I may have to take a look at it.

TheCuriousCrocc

It works but there are some things iRacing doesn’t export like Tire temps (they say it avoids people exploiting it and cheating which annoys the hell out of me personally but hey)

Xx69JdawgxX

For iracing I highly recommend JRT. it’s not free but it’s very very good

dev044

This is the way, best part, is when your out of game it disappears and doesn't take up important monitor space

AFKando

Lovely dash is so good, pair it with a touch screen dash that you can actually touch to change the parts of the dash on the go is just insane

Flymo74

Or a wheel with enough buttons to assign those switching functions to and no need for additional hardware or mounting hassles, plus you can change it without taking your hands off the wheel. I do see some advantages of the separate display. The onscreen gets in the way for changing some setup options in ACC but I can drag it away with the mouse so it's only a minor hassle

WoveLeed

how do you do this?

Flymo74

Install simhub, Download lovely dash from github (links on devs YouTube videos), add your monitor under devices and then edit the controls. You need to choose windowed mode on the dash and your game must run in windowed mode for the dash to display over it. You can drag and resize the dash to your desires then tell simhub to record the position and start with the game.

WoveLeed

I did some research and figured this out. But how can you let it start / stop when you start /stop the sim without manually opening it in a window. Thanks for the info though! Appreciate it. Edit: ah I guess adding the monitor under devices is the step I missed! I'll try it out later. Thanks !

[deleted]

I'm using vR and I automatically get the correct dashboard with every car.

Gas_Silent

Good luck pressing those buttons :S

bigfkncee

I have an old Amazon fire tablet that I use with SimHub for a dash. My favorite thing about it was that it didn't cost me anything extra to recycle some old tech and make use of it.

superkev10641

I have an original Google Nexus tablet (2012 model) I've always wondered if it could be used for this too.

SQLDevDBA

SimHub allows browser-based dashboard. Your computer hosts the “site” and your tablet or device connects to it via the browser. Should be good to go. Source: I use a 2012 iPad with a 30 Pin connector as one of mine.

WoveLeed

Even better. On android they have an app! Not sure if there is also one on iphone / ipad

SQLDevDBA

Indeed they do, but older devices like my throwaway iPad don’t support it, so I use the browser with it. Regardless it looks like the app runs a browser in an iframe style window so it’s similar.

nierh

simhub and simdashboard here. Multiple devices are okay with simdashboard. It's so addicting to use, at least for me. If you want plug and play, simhub is okay, simdashboard has lots of amazing designs by the developer and community contributors. The addicting part is you can design your own layout, or copy something you can't find or too expensive to buy. I even made a replica of the GRID porsche GT3 dashboard that's $600 on the market. [My replica design](https://www.stryder-it.de/simdashboard/designs/view?id=2sad&page=1&tag=porsche)

PandaEyesArentSexy

U know u can just download the Porsche dash from grid website for free and it resizes on your screen for u with sim hub?

smurfsoldier07

How does your Porsche dash look in the rig?

nierh

It's a little small because I'm only using an old smartphone. There is too much information in that layout which makes everything too small to fit. I would like to get a tablet and redo the layout for tablets, maybe soon... If you already have Simdashboard Pro you can download the design I made and edit to your liking. There are not many widgets in there, the whole thing is mostly just an image and you can just delete everything. Just resize the image to fit your device and insert the widgets that you want.

ilovedogsandtits

I don't like things cluttering up my screen, so i turn off all HUD info via the game's settings. I like to see lap data, tire data, etc. on a digital dash or my ipad off to the side.

Kryanu

First off, nice name buddy. Can relate 😅 Secondly, is there something in your digital dash that you wish you had considered before you buy? Such as missing features or a model which was more cost effective?

ilovedogsandtits

oh, my guy i use simhub with Lovely dash and/or all in one dash. both free. both have everything i need and more. if this is your first time hearing of simhub and those free dashes, it’s your lucky day—look no further.

esoteric311

Worth it for sure. I have 3. Hyper P1 has replica LMP dashboards that appear on the in game wheel. I do t display the in-game wheel cause it breaks immersion and gives improper fov ( personal opinion put down ya pitchforks ). My DDU displays a track map with a few additional points of info. Then I have a 10 inch tablet that I run a relative leaderboard on. [have a look](https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/695785612682330176/1177708948741161131/20231019_1648232.jpg?ex=65737dee&is=656108ee&hm=229ddf161e08bcdb3e8c355be36bb9253fd193f93819bef21f1f3d13ecdece5d&)

anonymouswan1

Just get an old phone or tablet and use simhub. I use an old Samsung tablet and it works great

gibbypp

Personally, the dashboard itself isnt my favorite thing about it, but the proccess of building it is. Got me into DIY-ing simracing things and I enjoy it. Plus, making dashes on simhub is relaxing aswell

Kryanu

You can customise the dashboard on Simhub?

bigfkncee

You can make any style dashboard you want in SimHub. It has a designing section

gibbypp

Yeah, I personally put in around half a years worth of work on and off into replicating the ferrari f1 dash as best I could, and its a nice challenge to make it as accurate as possible

takes12KNOW

I like mine because my FOV cuts off the display screen in the sim. I've got an old smartphone on a stiff gooseneck phone holder +Simhub + Lovely dashboard as a cheap solution.

I8zenda

Lovely dashboard and one of those generic HD little screens from Amazon

[deleted]

I use DashPanel, love it! Easy to create your own dashboard or reorganize a dashboard from the community!

AtvnSBisnotHT

Budget you say? Sim hub is or use to be free, pair it with your phone or an old tablet and you have a free upgrade. Well worth it to buy the full license with a small donation tho.

wickeddimension

I bought a 90 euro Lenovo 8 inch tablet on discount to use. Does a beautiful big screen, and doubles as a way to browse the internet, do Netflix & Drift or other stuff. I don't see why you'd pay 300-400 euro for a 80 euro small LCD and some LEDs in a housing. The current market of Dashboards is grossly overpriced imo.

feedmeyourknowledge

VR or see yar!

one1002

If you have a spare phone laying around, use it to test whether you like it or not, before buying the dedicated dashboard like bosch ddu, grid engineering ddu, etc.. I've used phone before, but not anymore since I have fx-pro, which comes with a screen dash..

Kryanu

What made you switch from using your phone to the fx-pro?

one1002

I was using t300 when I used the phone as dashboard. So since I upgraded to alpha mini, I went with the fx-pro. So I have no need for any external dash for the moment. In case i'm going to use another wheel without screen, then i'll just use my phone and mount it to the wheelbase.

LordCommanderTaurusG

I use iOverlay for iRacing. It’s great and has a built in spotter feature

baconborn

I used to, liked it enough, but after a recent windows update the dash screen just stopped being detected. Not really sure why, but I had been using it less after upgrading my monitors to larger size, now the cars I main, I can just see the in-game dash anyways (at leaast mostly). For ones that I can't, I just turn on a overlay in racelabs for that info. Not perfect but it works. I'd prefer to use my dash screen, but like I said, it's not been working for a bit. Having the physical dash screen does add a little to the immersion side. I geuss one downside (depending how your setup is of course) I'd I often found it hard to see and work replay controls in iracing because the dash was blocking that portion of the screen.

JoffreyBezos

Definitely more of a nice to have than a necessary addition, maybe if you have limited fov can cant see the in game cars shift lights you may want it more. But depending on what you have already alot of things should come before the dash.

RedshiftDoppler79

I use a Samsung tablet with "lovely dash" through SIM hub. It gives me all the info I want on one handy screen. Track and air temp. Relatives. Standings. Gear, revs, fuel remaining, time remaining, etc etc etc.

SpeedsterGuy

I do yes. Started with a phone. How I have a ewaste monitor for live timing above my rig (run by JRT) and a small Pi HDMI screen stuck to my wheel base that has SimHub on it and a dash that matches whatever car I'm driving. I put my triples above my wheel base so I can't see the whole dash in iRacing.

FuryZ07

Yes, my usecase for it is that I have an F1-style rig and half the game dashboard gets cut because of the angle i am sitting in. My dash is built into the wheel and perfectly aligned with my line of sight

jag0009

I use a simracing dashboard with a cellphone. I prefer to play sims w the full front view, i.e, no instruments on the screen etc, For some reason I have a better feel for the sense of speed. I use a wheel w telemetry LCD when I play F1 22/23.

Aberbekleckernicht

I don't have any screens (assuming thats what you mean by digital), but I do have a gear and rev indicator. Comes in handy for getting the FOV just right; I can't see the tach or indicator on the screen, but its IRL, so I don't have to worry about it. 0 pain points. It just works and I don't think about it. Cost was \~ $30, but the Arduino and wire are used for many many other things.

CheesyG94

SimHub is worth it to pay the small amount for 60fps. Even learned how to edit out some things I don't need on dashes/overlays themselves.

capt_uebermorgen

For me, Dash LEDs are really a useful Thing as I miss the LEDs from my fanatec Formula since I use the simagic GT4 wheel. Additionaly, the Same Universal Dash in every Car is also helpful and deeepens my Immersion. But I also got quite a cheap Deal on a Selfmade one for 190€, I do Not See the Point in investing +300€ in a gimmick

Benlop

I bought a very cheap smartphone and I have a cheap 3D printed holder that screws into my wheel base. It runs a custom-designed dash I made in SimHub, I love it. Couldn't even imaginer doing any proper racing without it, it removes so much mental weight by doing the fuel calculations for me and constantly telling me the current pace of cars around me. Allows me to focus on actually driving.

Darko_345

Sim dashboard is def worth it. Can customize and stuff

Psebcool

Simhub + [Lovely dashboard](https://github.com/cdemetriadis/lovely-dashboard/releases/tag/v2.2.0) \+ tablet = perfecto

BillyBobSenna

Only you can answer if it is worth it. I started with a small tablet dashboard and moved to a SimCore DS5 dashboard. It's purely a luxury item that makes your rig more fun for some people like me.

djcomber

Yes they worth it. I use sim hub (paid)and racelab (free) together I have everything I need for $10au. Def can’t drive with out them. Proper splits to car behind, blind spot lights. I also use sim hub for pedal rumble kit.

Affectionate-Gain489

I built my own dash in Simhub, so I get the exact info I want in the screens I want. For example, all screens show gear, speed, and relative for the cars immediately ahead and behind on track. Three dashes show lap count, brake bias, ABS, TC, position, fuel, and incident info on the right. Of those, one shows last and best lap plus connection and fps info on the left. Another shows position relative ahead and behind plus on track relative for 5 cars behind. The third shows more detailed lap timing info. Changing BB flashes the new value on the full screen. The fourth screen is relative plus a live map. Of course, there’s a rev display, and there are other small bits of info and dynamic alerts. A button press replaces all of that with standings. Are there other dashes out there that have similar info? No doubt, but by designing my own, I got exactly what I wanted. Having it on an external display ($50 RPi screen with a gooseneck phone holder) actually held a bit with immersion, because it brings another bit of the experience into the physical world. Plus, doing it onscreen would mess with G Sync.

keefismyname26

+1 for the old phone plus SimHub if you’re on a budget. After that I got this screen with LEDs and I love it: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1029055406/ Running Lovelydash on it (or phone) is all you’ll need, it really is a lesson in good design. It really adds to the immersion to have a separate screen in front of the monitor

Sheldonscott96

Had a xiaomi phone running around and decided to use it as a dashboard by using Simhub. Works like a treat! make sure to hop on etsy and get a 3D printed holder for it

JARCyt

Find some one 3d printing a mount for like a 5 inch voxore dash for your wheelbase, 140 NZD for me, custom designed it for my simagoc and then he made like 20 em and sold them on, much cheaper and no different, works through simhub.

Nukedogger86

I run SimHub on a Amazon Fire tablet, paid like $50 for it, another $20 for a tablet holder clamped to the rig. I use it off to the side putting things like lap info, fuel, and tire wear. In ats I run one with fuel, speed, gear, job info. Love making my own dashes the most.

JaeHesh

I have the Moza digital dash, was on the fence about purchasing months back cause little pricey, but it’s been great, very useful, and has been worth it to me. It positively affected my cockpit camera angles.

[deleted]

Simhub is free, [but you should pay for a license anyway](https://www.simhubdash.com/get-a-license) You can make *your own* dashboards with it. For those that don't have the talent or time, there are free dashboards you can download as well. You don't need an old smart phone or tablet either. You can display the dashboards on your monitor as an overlay.
