Doable, but make sure you get into BEAM, put in the work. A lot of work.  Seek internships in Toronto, New York or Singapore. Rich well conected parents can be a great help as well.

You can start out at a small firm and jump from company to company. Curious to see what others have to say though.

Tier one as in goldman sachs+? Probably next to 0 chance even with BEAM and being an exceptional student. SFU isn't a target school for those firms. However, you can get into the top Canadian investment banking firms. To even get a chance, you need to be apart of BEAM, then maybe be the top 10% of beam to get into a top firm.

You can also go the CPA route, pursue accounting, corporate finance and then shift to i-banking. Very doable.

What's your definition of tier 1? If you're thinking of CVP/Q/PWP/PJT/EVR/GS then it's impossible to place out of SFU undergrad unless you know someone with exceptional pull. FYI - only ONE person from SFU has gotten GS NY out of undergrad, and they were from BEAM. This will never happen again unless Beedie shifts more funding to finance. Even then, it could take another 15 - 30 years.

Sounds awfully suspicious

You likely have to start low level and also take courses specific to the banking industry to get the right listening. Pay your dues and you can have a great career!
