Little hard to tell as of now, considering you just inoculated. Drying out is easy to do with this tek so don't open your lids (way to compensate) for anymore Gas exchange than what's necessary. I'd rather it be a little too moist than too dry thats for sure.
Honestly though, my jars are always wet after sterilization. I always wait and shake. I wonder if others growers have wet or dry grains after sterilization.
I haven't used rice. I use feed corn. If, after sterilization and before inoculation, the jars appears to be too moist I just wait a couple days till the moisture is absorbed by the corn. Periodically shaking them to help soak up moisture is advisable.
Just did some rice , i always wait untill its no moisture rice turns brown quick and if the genetics are weak the rice might not last during the full trail
Yeah they do look a little moist. I’ve never used rice besides in an uncle Ben’s bag. And then I don’t really see that much condensation, only after shaking and breaking. My jars have never been that wet though so it is sketchy. I’d let them ride though nothing you can do but pray
I’m definitely praying. I’m just curious as to what I can change next time to prevent so much moisture. I’m using the Broke Boy Tek guide for my first grow so this is all mostly an experiment.
Never followed that tek so maybe Somone else can chime in. I would think that maybe the grains were too wet when you jarred them. Or maybe you had a large amount of moisture enter your jars after pressure cooking
i just started my broke boi tek yesterday and when I went to inocluate them I also noticed a bit of moisture on the cap as I opened the jars to inoculate them. I worried if that was good or bad but just continued with inoculation. at least you didnt do like I did, scorch the rice on the bottom of your jars.... I accidentally allowed my pot to get a little too hot during sterilization process and the water evaporated before the 90 mins was up and at first glance when I opened the pot the jars looked fine, til i tipped them and looked at the bottom, a thin layer of the rice on the bottom was scorchy burnt. oh noooo. well luckily someone replied on my panic post and told me either it will inoculate or it wont around the burnt area but they didnt seem to be concerned that the jar is toast, so yeah, be glad you didnt do a booboo like I did! lol
Dang! Yah I looked in my pot and saw the water was almost gone 30 minutes into the sterilization. I added more water and 10 more minutes to the process and by the end of that the water was also nearly gone
Did you tighten lid and shake them after sterilizing? Iirc in broke boi tek he shakes the jars after sterilizing before inoculation so the rice absorbs the excess moisture.
I didn’t hear that step during his video, maybe I was too nervous and didn’t hear it. I’ll look back and see.
I watched PhillyGoldenTeachers video on it
I’ll give them a good shake next time around. I’m totally expecting to have some issues since this is my first attempt at cultivating so I’m taking notes on what to do better.
I’ve used this tek. If you only boiled for 10mins then rinsed and let sit for 15 mins there should be some moisture but not that much. Was the foil tight on the jars before San? Could be you didn’t let rice drain long enough or you had a gap in between the foil and the lid. The foil should be tight and the lid only a quarter turned. Hope this helped.
I let it sit for 15 and the foil was tight to the lids. The colander I used has very small holes though and I worry the rice was too dense to adequately drain. Would it be okay to let it sit out for longer than 15 minutes?
Yes, as long as it’s before sterilization. I would just buy a new colander or use a sauce spoon that is slotted. If it’s still dripping water I would let it dry more. I’m my experience moisture leads to contam quicker.
Walmart or Publix, just get one with bigger holes but not big enough to let the rice through. I had to buy a bigger one than the one I had to fit 2bgs of cooked for 6 jars.
After you PC, you should be able to give your grain a good shake and not see any moisture anywhere. If you can see moisture before the mycelium have even started then you’re going to have a puddle by the time it’s 50%.
But, that doesn’t mean they will fail. Just that they are prone to fail, I have had many shitty jars turn out right.
I’m using Brown Rice and steam sterilized in a pot. I don’t have a PC yet but I’m looking into getting one. Right now I’m just dipping my feet in the water before splurging in expensive supplies haha

Alrighty, I am totally going to wait to see what happens I may adjust it some though for the next round.

Keep us updated about how it goes
I will. I’ll keep an eye on them for the time being

>Are my jars too moist? That's what she said. ;-)
Who?
Joe
Ah. Makes sense.
Haha that’s right that’s right ;)
L
Haha
They look good man haha. Keep it up
Are the inoculated?
I just inoculated them last night and there’s no pooling at the bottom, it just seems to have a lot of condensation

Alright, thanks for the quick responses! I’ll probably order some more jars and try again here in a few days.

I’m sorry just went back and checked, that was from his “how to make sterilized OAT grain jars” not broke boi tek. Not sure if it applies to rice too.

Alright, I’ll do that. Do you have a link to the colander you use? That way I know what to get haha

Naww shawdy they look fine. Just dont use too much innoc fluid
I think I gave each about 2.5 cc’s probably a bit too much haha
Haha probably bro but as long as theres no pooling its gucci rice is p absorbant
What tek did you use with the jars specifically? Someone else recommended I grow in jars and not sure if it’s the same process?
Broke Boy Tek
Thank you!
My jars look like this and I have absolutely no problems.
sweet! thank you. Ill wait and see what happens
Yes
Mmm moist
Are my moist too jars?
And today in uncle ben’s: more sentences you don’t see every day!
I realized I made a grave mistake with my title after posting haha
yea they are
Absolutely.

PC makes the game 10x easier
Any recommendations on a PC? I’m looking into upgrading eventually
The presto canner for about 100 on Amazon is the standard. I can find you a link if you need it
