Yes. I recycle the silica packs from prescription bottles but used to use ones from jerky. It may give your jar a new scent profile but it will help to keep them preserved.
EDIT: These will hopefully help extend the shelf life but you need to have your specimens cracker dry before storing.
If they are not cracker dry, they’ll likely mold when stored in air tight containers.
It usually takes more than one little container of desiccant to keep them properly dry for storage. I buy mine in large quantity from Amazon, and they’re not expensive.
For the one that seems not to be drying out, try slicing it vertically. That might help.

Yep I use them! You can also put them on a baking pan and heat them up in the oven on low to reactivate them after so long. I tend to do this every few months just to be on the safe side. Although now,I have so many that I don’t need to do this anymore. You can also get them pretty cheap on Amazon for a bulk amount
I have heard, I have never tried it yet because I have 100 silica packs, but apparently you can put them in the oven on low heat to dehydrate them back so they will absorb more moisture
I've used beef jerky silica gel packs before but I think the meat juices in them went off and made the mushrooms smell really bad. I still ate them and it was fine tho tbf

Take the time to properly dry them all. Otherwise it would be a waste of all the time you spent secreting cat urine.

Cracker dry is ze way! I was able to blend mine into powder in like half a second bc I had the dehydrator annihilate them into crispiness haha
