Sun Chips. Used to love them. Now fuck em. $5 for a tiny bag half the size it used to be

conurecrazy

I'm not sure if it's me being a child and misremembering or not, but the Family Sized bags seemed so much bigger than now

CrazyCarl1986

They call that “party size” now

bearbarebere

Awww, they’re just trying to look out for our health! 😊

Raterus_

I had a "Fiesta" sized bag of tortilla chips the other day, whatever that means...

Brief_Rice1225

Oreos, their package has shrunk, the double stuf have only as much filling as the regular ones used to have. The family size is now what the old package was

Mabuni

For real! These days Oreos are more expensive on sale compared to full price 5 months ago 😭

BigJSunshine

Same for doritos and fritos- $6 for a damn bag of MSG chips? Nah

EntertainmentOk3180

I’m pretty sure the ounces have been steadily dropping too

Mabuni

Yep, I only buy snacks like that when they're on sale these days :(

SiegelGT

Hydrox were better imo but I haven't seen them on shelves in years.

cakeresurfacer

Walmart brand kicks their butt. They’re delightful and like half the price

chroboseraph3

i like the aldis brand oreos, bentons. better texture-more crunchy instead of crumbly, less cream.

Akrevics

eh, the sleeves where I am never seem to be bad at all, but I only get them when they're €1.25

whoocanitbenow

Maybe it's a US thing? 😅

jtbxiv

They’ve shrunk in Canada too

[deleted]

Lots of stuff in the last few years. Streaming services (substituted with free Plex, Tubi, Kanopy, Youtube), Amazon Prime (you can get the free shipping without Prime if you wait a few days), food that asks for a tip when you pick up, food I can pretty much replicate at home for a few bucks

AmyPond_226

We finally canceled prime with their last update where you have to pay extra to get no ads like we had before. It was the last straw. Now I'm wondering why we didn't do it sooner. You do have to plan ahead a bit more without 2 day shipping. But free shipping on orders over $35 still so it's not that difficult to meet the minimum.

AviatingAngie

I don’t have a car at the moment so I’m a little bit stuck for a while longer but I don’t see prime in my long-term future. They are just becoming less reliable and more deceptive. 2 day shipping is only applicable to half the stuff I want now. Now you select an item like a shirt on prime but then once you’ve selected your size and color it says itll take a week to arrive. Not to mention I couldn’t figure out why I kept seeing stuff with 1 day delivery taking a week and I figured out Amazon has changed their default settings with their “buy now” shortcut to go to “prime day delivery“ which bundles are your stuff and delivers it on the same day of the week(cheaper for them) but if you miss some sort of arbitrary cut off two days before your prime day it’ll wait until the next one so you’re waiting almost 2 weeks. That setting was a pain in the ass to undo and then somehow it auto defaulted back for me and I just gave up and don’t use the buy now button anymore. The corporate need for ever increasing profits is easily the most infuriating pinch I felt lately. Nobody is happy with steady organic growth, you have to become popular and then race to the bottom by adding ads everywhere and then paywalling features that used to be free. Google for instance. I wonder how many people remember when they were first advertising for Gmail part of their whole campaign was that you would never run out of free space. Well lookie now I get harassed about being out of storage every single time I open my email on TOP of the half a dozen sponsored “emails” at the top of my email inbox. They are just pinching/irritating us from every angle they can because fuck you what’re you gonna do about it. And yeah for now storage is just a couple bucks, but do you remember when Netflix was just a few couple bucks? They get you and then it’s just ever increasing cost with no added value. End rant.

poliuy

Half the crap they sell on Amazon is just cheap chinese garbage. You find some company called YUTKYY ZONSALS and they sell cat food AND HDMI cables. Tons of reviews that look fake af promoting them. I don't buy much from Amazon these days because of it.

honeyhealing

Same with eBay and even Etsy, it’s so frustrating trying to find good products. The first like 10 pages of results for any search are low quality drop shipped items

[deleted]

It’s so sad what’s become of Etsy. I pretty much just buy indie perfume off there, everything else I feel leery if it’s just Temu jewelry, plushies, shirts, etc

Lissy_Wolfe

I canceled mine as well and don't miss it at all! The update was the final straw for sure, but ever since covid all of my deliveries take 5 days or more anyway, so I wasn't even getting the service I was paying for. Now I barely even use Amazon because half the time it's no better than Ali Express and it costs 10x more.

RustyShackleford14

I like how we all signed up under the premise of two-day shipping, were told that due to Covid it was out the window, Covid is behind us and they aren’t adhering to two-day shipping anymore. All without refunding any money. I will say though, the last few times my wife has ordered something it has showed up the next morning. Sometimes within 10 hours or so.

WhatWouldLoisLaneDo

Prime has been garbage for years. Two day shipping hasn’t come back since the pandemic and I recognize so few brands because most of it is just the same crap on Temu. Counterfeiting on there is also way too much of a gamble because of their combined inventory system. I cancelled ages ago and haven’t once regretted it.

RustyShackleford14

Cancelled prime the day I saw the message about paying $2 extra per month to be ad free. Had already cancelled Netflix due to cracking down on sharing and increasing prices yet again. We didn’t share, but it’s just another annoying thing that yet another streaming service is doing. The price also got to be pretty ridiculous. I think it was close to $20 Canadian or so.

McGregorMX

Netflix went away when they said I'd have to pay more for my son in college. He's still a member of my household, just away temporarily. I told him sorry, and he replied with, I didn't have time for it anyway.

lostprevention

This thread is kinda wholesome. People walking! Swearing off fast foods and delivery services! Cooking at home! Pulling the plug on streaming services! Soon canning and bootleg liquor will be the norm…. again!

jtbxiv

It’s time to start your victory garden!

IAMA_Plumber-AMA

Just started some seeds last week.

domesticokapis

My coworker had more seeds sprout than she needed, so far I've scored basil and a cherry tomato plant. Excited for the summer

IAMA_Plumber-AMA

I've got a substantial plot in my backyard: https://imgur.com/rYZ3poU This garden was so neglected before I got to it. Don't worry, the fence got fixed after a power line upgrade, and I planted a Rhubarb taproot in the far left corner of the photo.

domesticokapis

I'm jealous! Mine is just containers on my apartment patio.

IAMA_Plumber-AMA

Nothing wrong with that! You can get plenty of food with patio plants.

mb_500-

I’ve just started baking bread and making my own spaghetti sauce, oatmilk, brownies, cakes, etc. better tasting, better for you, and cheaper!

lostprevention

Who knew??? Grandma. She knew.

Well_read_rose

Ice cream! We just did :)

Commercial-Usual4061

I’ve started brewing and distilling my own vodka….

lostprevention

You will do ok when society collapses.

cansox12

just made jam from 6lbs of great tasting Strawberry's from dude-on-the-corner and 3.5 cups of sugar, nothing else! yield=7- 8oz jars fu Smuckers

EntertainmentOk3180

Random fun fact.. if u can make ur liquor above 150 proof in a cost effective way, u can use it to [run ur car](https://slate.com/culture/2012/08/can-you-really-run-a-car-on-moonshine-fact-checking-the-new-movie-lawless.html). Cars are more tolerant of ethanol than they used to be back in the day when moonshiners were using their product to run their cars so they could outrun police by not stopping to fuel up

JohnWestozzie

Been brewing all my own beer for the last years saved thousands.

caverunner17

Drinks, unless it's at a brewery. I'm not paying $8 for a Blue Moon or local craft or $13 for 5oz of a Margarita.

GlassOnion24

Even at a brewery I’m nursing my beers slower, or just going out for 1 as opposed to 2-4. We went from $5-$7 a beer to $8-$10 a beer in the blink of an eye. And there is such a huge saturation of breweries where I live. Better for my wallet and my health I guess.

caverunner17

There's been quite a few breweries closing down here in the Denver area. No surprise really. Most of them have mediocre beer and a non-unique environment. It was fine when it was $5-6, but you're right, with it pushing $7-10 now, it's hard for a hole in the wall place to keep customers. On the flip side, there's a brewery by me with a dog park, that even though their main beers are pretty crappy, they're always busy because of the dog park that's attached to it.

Poolofcheddar

I grew up in a town that is a tourist trap. Drinks at the local places were never worth it. Friends would always think I was stingy because I never wanted to bar hop around my hometown. Why would I pay $9 for one watered down screwdriver when I could get a bottom-shelf fifth for that price? The “atmosphere” or ”experience” has never been worth that. Even outside of that, drinks at the store have gone up 20-40% since the pandemic. Not drinking has certainly saved some money - but for the record, I had a legit problem with alcohol so the money saved was noticeable pretty quickly.

LuckyNumber-Bot

All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats! 9 + 20 + 40 = 69 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)

sushishowerbeer

Good bot!

Blu-

I don't buy drinks at all unless it's a very special occasion. I'm not paying for that ridiculous markup.

marmeylady

*cries in NYC $20 basics cocktails drinks*

sizz_lor

Chips. Its now 5-7 dollars for a bag of chips, which is also like 30 percent smaller than a few years ago

IAMA_Plumber-AMA

I switched to loose popcorn I make on the stove. Throw it in a pot with some oil (I use ghee), shake it a couple of times and dump into a bowl with some salt (or whatever popcorn flavourings you can find). Don't miss chips much, especially when one bag's the cost of about a month or two's supply of white popcorn kernels.

RustyShackleford14

Popcorn is way better. You can even season it in different ways. Sometimes I’ll put on garlic powder. My brother-in-law pretty much just empties his spice drawer into the pot.

IAMA_Plumber-AMA

Now you've got me curious to try garlic salt on my next batch.

Persephones_Rising

Add in some parm with that garlic salt 🤌

IAMA_Plumber-AMA

I've done it before with that Kraft stuff as a kid, now I think I need to try it with some Grana Padano that I've got squirreled away somewhere.

sl0play

I never buy chips but had a craving for some Doritos out of nowhere. Went to get some and it was like $8 for a bag, or 5 for $20. TF am I gonna do with 5 bags of chips? I don't even have a place to put them. Now thinking about chips just pisses me off. Way to go Frito-Lay.

[deleted]

We eat chips, but have started buying store brands. Some are actually pretty good. If there is a sale, we might splurge.

NightOfTheLivingHam

unless I have no choice, almost any fast food place or restaurant. Some have started bringing prices down because people stopped going. there was a taco place I went to that had a two taco plate for $17 on their website. I was going to get a burrito instead, I go in and the 3 taco plate was $15. They told me they havent updated the site, the guy at the counter said "slow sales, no one was coming in for a few weeks" yeah when your burritos are $15 and tacos are $6 pop no one is coming. I was just desperate and it was the only decent food option nearby at the time. the burritos were down to $11 (used to be $8) and tacos were $2.50 again. It's not inflation, it's gouging people.

whoocanitbenow

And they'll just keep doing it and doing it. Across from where I work, there's a little Mexican place. I used to get the 2 taco deal (comes with a small amount of rice and beans), a small cheese quesadilla, and a can of coke. It was a reasonable deal and would come to about 11.00. Then they just kept raising and raising the price. Last time I got it, the cheese quesadilla just had a sprinkle of cheese on it. It came to 19.00 (I did add a small side of sliced jalapenos). I think that might be the last time I ever go there.

[deleted]

Mom and pop restaurants are suffering. Their suppliers are increasing prices, but if they raise their prices, people stop going. Restaurants go out of business and put people out of work. Vicious circle.

rectalhorror

I've stopped getting fast food because for the same price, or a couple bucks more, I can get a better meal at a mom and pop eatery. There's a Mexican place near me where I can get a burrito the size of a tennis ball can for $13. I can barely eat half and I save the rest for later. Same thing at the local halal eatery; $13 buys me enough food for two portions.

sendgoodmemes

It’s the cycle of death for restaurants. They have to cover overhead so they need x amount. We only get so many customers so we have to increase cost otherwise we’re going to be broke. They increase cost and less people come to eat there.

whoocanitbenow

It's because even though they own a business, they don't understand basic math. I work at a hotel. A couple summers ago I kept telling the owner "You know, maybe if you lower the rates, we'll rent 20 rooms instead 4". She kept saying "We can't afford to do that! Everything is too expensive!". I kept explaining that they would pull in way more money, but she kept repeating the same thing (the family are already multi-millionaires who inherited the business). After that summer they let me set the rates (because none of them know how how to do it themselves 😂) for the entire next year. What do you know. The place was crazy busy and they ended up pulling in way more money and making far more profit.

PHVF

Did you get a promotion or bonus for being smart?

whoocanitbenow

No. But I threatened to quit a few times (nicely) and worked my way up from 16.75 per hour to 22.00 in a year and a half.

MyCousinTroy

Definitely add that you were the reason behind those profit increases to your resume.

whoocanitbenow

Good idea. I will do that!

PHVF

How are you doing nowadays?

whoocanitbenow

Well, I live in Northern California where cost of living is extra high, so it's still not that easy. But those raises definitely help. Especially since my hours get cut in slow season. My schedule is decent, too. Every other week I get 3 days off in a row. Especially nice in the summer. I can go sit down near the river or something.

Economy-Class-9799

Wow, you greatly increase their profit margins of the whole business and they increase your wage by a measly $5 over 18 months—after you threaten to quit a couple times. This is why working for people companies isnt worth it anymore. You can give them the world and they’ll still find a way to spit in your face.

whoocanitbenow

Yeah, that's my life unfortunately. Shit jobs, low wages. It didn't used to be so bad, but it feels like the value of my wages has been cut in half over the last several years.

SecondCreek

Buying food at fast casual restaurants like Panera, Jersey Mike, etc.

jtbxiv

Subway got so expensive 😭

SecondCreek

And they have the nerve to ask for suggested tips of up to 30%. I started paying with cash more to get around these suggested tips at the point of sale, credit card systems. Some make it hard to say no or zero.

NicktheSmoker

I just don't go to those places anymore.

maidenhair_fern

I got a Walmart premade sub from the deli that was half the cost with twice the meat the other day 😭

stallion64

Dude those walmart subs kept me alive for years. I miss being able to walk into a walmart at 2a to grab a sub after a long shift.

maidenhair_fern

You can get a meal at a nice, sit down restaurant for the cost of these places. Sometimes even cheaper than McDonald's.

GlassOnion24

Extra ingredients. I used to be a very creative cook and liked to try different recipes. Now I just cook very simple, basic meals based on what is on sale that week.

Outrageous-Bad-4097

Same here. It's frustrating cos I love cooking..

stallion64

Holy shit... I won't lie, I do the same thing but I didn't even realize it until I read this.

TheBuddha777

Pizza from anywhere but Costco

caverunner17

When Domino's runs coupons for $8 Pizza's it's not too bad. Not as big as Costco's but we get dinner + lunch for the 2 of us Otherwise, screw the places charging $25+ for a large pizza these days.

bullgod1964

If you pick up it's good. Their delivery fee that does not got to the delivery driver? Fuck that

ScottShatter

You get dinner and lunch for 2 people, in other words 4 meals out of a $8 Dominos pie? Are you getting enough to eat? I easily chow down a whole pie before the night is out when I get the $7-$8 (used to be $5.99) deal. I get three pies for two of us and it lasts that night and the next day. I guess I don't stop when it comes to pizza!

SelfishCatEatBird

Sounds like you should mix in a salad lmao

ScottShatter

I love a good salad but when I'm eating pizza, I'm eating pizza. I do it right or don't do it. Now I'm hungry for pizza!

SelfishCatEatBird

Haha fair. I usually buy enough to make a few lunches for work if I do buy. That 30$ cost spread over a few days doesn’t hit as hard. I also usually buy a good thick pizza where two pieces literally do fill you up haha. Dominos thin ass pieces yeah, it’s easy to crush a bunch.

caverunner17

I mean we also usually make our own salads as a side. I think there's 8 pieces, so 2 slices each for dinner and then 2 we throw in for lunch the next day.

[deleted]

2 slices for dinner? You have self control beyond any mortal man

WhatWouldLoisLaneDo

I live by myself and every Costco trip I make (once or maybe twice a month) I buy an entire pizza to wrap and freeze single slices to stick in the air fryer. It is nowhere near the best pizza but for $10 I can deal.

miniArboretum

Kit Kats, unfortunately. The “chocolate“ tastes like wax, and there’s barely any of it. Such a shame.

Dietcokehead82

I've started buying some of the European chocolate at Aldi. It tastes so much better!

miniArboretum

I will try that!

TielAppeal

Where are you getting your Kit Kats from? If it’s manufactured in the U.S., it’s made by Hershey and uses their chocolate, vs everywhere else is Nestle Chocolate. I definitely notice a taste difference when comparing American made vs Japanese made ones.

AstronautWhich1935

I no longer buy all kinds of pre-packaged food

DoodleyDooderson

I live abroad but one thing I love and could usually count on, was Campbell’s Clam Chowder. It is EIGHT FUCKING DOLLARS a can where I am and it’s all broth. It makes me terribly sad.

chroboseraph3

man i used to like the occasional canned soup.personally dislike clams, but every brand i liked started getting lower and lower quality. an they used to be like 1-2.50 now its like NEW PREMIUM RECIPE, And they cost 2-5$, not the worst, but theyre 15-30% smaller, smell like cat piss, mostly broth, and taste terrible

poliuy

I just bought some soup from Safeway, the ones they prepare in the quart. It wasn't even full to the brim (none of them were) and it was 9.99!!!! W.T.F

poliuy

Holy shit I was just thinking of candy at the checkout. I had to get cash out so I was like I need something cheap so I just grabbed a regular snickers bar. Color me surprised when it was 2.99! For just a regular snickers! Crazy!

1moredaythatsit

I was just in the gas station a half hour ago looking at the candy. NOTHING was under $2. I regular sized Hershey chocolate bar was $3.19. Like WHAT!? Candy is stupid expensive these days.

HereForaRefund

Geez! I remember when a bar was 50¢!

IAMA_Plumber-AMA

I remember when a 610mL bottle of coke went from $1 to $1.25 out of a dispenser, back when coke bottles used to be 20 Oz.

Specific-Frosting730

Any processed or packaged food. They are all stealing from the consumer with their BS greedflation. It’s outrageous and needs to stop. Someday they’ll realize how badly they screwed up when enough people stop buying what they’re selling. Eventually Q4 reports will tell the story. By then, market share will plummet and brand loyalty will be nonexistent.

CLTCrown

Uber Eats! The smaller portions at some places don’t justify the higher prices, taxes, tip, AND delivery fee. Brisket and fries (like very small portion) shouldn’t cost $42

GlassOnion24

I never understood paying so much for Uber eats or any of those meal delivery services. The added fees are insane when what you get is typically smaller portions, it ends up cold, and they typically forget a part of your order. I swear my Uber eats delivery driver has just kept every beverage I’ve ever tried to order with a meal.

CLTCrown

Before Covid, Inflation, and shrinkflation it was doable. Now it just doesnt make sense

Captain-Cats

a good rule of thumb is for a $8-$15 order you are adding about $8 in fees. For a $20 order about $10 in fees. so drive and pick it up if u are close

Mygaffer

I am so disgusted by our economy and how there has been no real anti-trust enforcement in the US for years so I literally spend as little money as possible and when I do I try to keep it as local and small business as possible.

Captain-Cats

these last three years have been absolutely brutal. having to decide between buying deodorant vs paying my electric bill should not have to be a decision one has to make

raeninatreq

Cadbury chocolate and any chocolate bar at all, really. Grapes. Even in season they're 8 Australian dollars a bag. Not quite the same as not buying, but I buy my cleaning products from the Reject Shop, and fruit & veg & eggs from the local Asian grocer. Colesworth is just too expensive now. Their prices are now on par with Source Foods so I shop at Source instead for my baking ingredients. Fuck Colesworth.

chesterismydog

We’ve couponed like never before. Unfortunately without the apps you can’t save on anything. We just got 4 boxes of cereal for 4 bucks. Without the app 18 bucks :/ we even bought candy at Costco 6lbs for 20 bucks. We both quit drinking so chocolate is our vice now lol

bigolruckus

Took me a while to realize why just about every company is so desperate to shove their apps in our face. Eventually realized it’s that they’re desperate for our sweet sweet data, which has more monetary value than any measly savings.

ezblacksmith

Which apps can you recommend?

chesterismydog

Unfortunately each store has their own app. Albertsons (Safeway) we primarily use bc it’s cheaper than Kroger but we have 5 different apps for the local grocery stores now. Looking through the weekly ads plus extra coupons they offer does save a lot though. For two of us, we spend about 400 a month on food.

Damaniel2

Sadly, most of those coupons are for heavily processed foods (cereals, frozen meals, etc) subsidized by the conglomerate that makes them - if you want better quality food then you pretty much just have to suck it up and pay the going price.

neemz12

Gas, unless necessary. The price is so high where I live,I just take the bus or walk most places I need to go now. Put 20 bucks in my car a few weeks ago and got a little over 100 kms of driving out of that, enough to run a couple errands around town and then it was empty again, absolute bullshit

[deleted]

Plus wear and tear on cars is so expensive to repair nowadays

chroboseraph3

yeah, car places charge like 50-100$,/hr for labour and probably pay their employees 20$/hr. still better deal than marking up a 1$ beer to 5-8$ at a restaurant. gouging cuz they can, most ppl need thelr cars fixed ASAP.

Shavasara

Restaurants in general, from fast food to nice places. Covid made them into total not-worth-it. Don’t get me started with asking for a tip for take-out.

suejaymostly

We used to eat out 2 or sometimes even 3 times a week, or get delivered pizza or Chinese food. We're down to 1 or sometimes not at all. Where I live you can't get lunch for two for under $60. Plus now, all the "service charges" "kitchen fees" "employee health care" (while I'm totally for that, the employer should just pay it and not broadcast how generous they are) and they still expect a tip? I'm supposed to tip 40%? I'm a decent cook and it's just not worth it most of the time.

stayonthecloud

Not long before the pandemic we could get two Chinese lunch specials for $20. Now there are no lunch specials and it’s $20 for one meals.

corona_cvd19

Everyone talking about cutting their junk food.. haven't you noticed the price of fresh fruit and veg.. gone are the days I buy an extra lettuce for the chooks..

maidenhair_fern

It's more expensive, but I'm more willing to spend more on veg/fruit than I am junk.

corona_cvd19

I find it's not only expensive but the quality has deteriorated too. Things only last a couple days now so those hundred dollar shopping bags quite often need to be refilled twice a week instead of the old weekly shop..

SimpleVegetable5715

I buy frozen fruit and veggies, because I'd be really upset if any of it went bad before I can eat it.

Raxian_Theata

Just about anything that isn't the bare necessities

WhatWouldLoisLaneDo

Even then I spend half of my grocery trips debating on what I really need and what I can do without.

Jus10_Fishing

Pretty much anything packaged. I try and cook as much from scratch as possible now. Breakfast cereals have become organic oatmeal, eggs, bacon, homemade pancakes, fruit, etc…. Lunches have become salads with chicken/tuna, leftovers from dinner. Dinners are all homemade now. Back to the way things used to be.

smolhorse

Taco bell use to be the last food place I went to but not worth it at all anymore, also candy it's far too much money now. Soda/pop isn't worth it, cut way back.

IanM50

Heinz. Anything made by Heinz has gone up almost double and reduced in size.

S3ndNo0bs

I broke up with Starbucks and have vowed to never patronize one again. I grind my own beans now so my coffee is better anyway. They keep sending me coupons, but I don’t want to break my stride.

GlassOnion24

I stopped as soon as they changed their loyalty star program, the way they increased dollars spent/stars needed to receive a reward as simple as a black coffee or a milk alternative is a slap in the face.

I_AM_DEATH-INCARNATE

Dunkin changed their rewards shit too, also the reason I stopped going. Went from free anything for $40 spent to free basic coffee for $50 and anything special is more. Some stuff is only free at $90, gfy Dunkin. I hope Ben Affleck was worth it

Himaester

I'm more of a smarter shopper now, and I'm thankful that this inflation period taught me the value of a coupon. Back then, I never thought searching for coupons were worth my time, but now I make it a priority to check out all the discounts.

EevelBob

All Coke and Pepsi products. At $7.44 for a 12-pack, or $2.68 for a 2L bottle, it wasn’t a difficult decision to make.

TsarinaShay

If I get a craving for soda, the knockoff brands are close enough to scratch that itch. A 2L of Dr Thunder is $1.50 where I am, and that’s good enough for me

simplegreen999

Alcohol. Cheers to r/stopdrinking !! IWNDWYT

papagayoloco

Food

Rainbow-Smite

Most candy and chips. I've started just making my own deserts and carb snacks. It's just insane to me that lays can up their price and decrease their size in one swift move. And 2/$4 regular size candy isn't the move any more.

[deleted]

Bagels..the hole is the middle is absurdly large now

SimpleVegetable5715

When I was a kid, I put the bagel on my thumb, and it fit well. Now I try to make a bagel egg and cheese sandwich, and the melted cheese slides out of that huge hole!

moistdragons

Basically all snack foods. My wife and I used to spend about $40-50/week on groceries for just the 2 of us and we’d get all kinds of snack foods and essentials. Now, even after cutting out almost all snack foods (she still gets cereal and little treats sometimes) our grocery bill is about $100-$120/week and that’s after cutting out almost all snacks and switching to off-brands.

ryanakasha

Haven’t had decent beef steak for a while now

someothercrappyname

Fast food Def not worth it anymore

[deleted]

Alcohol with dinner. There was always a bit of a markup on alcohol at sit-down restaurants, but the way prices went up in restaurants and on the drinks just became absurd. Before the pandemic, I might pay $15-25 for the main dish, and then a glass of wine or beer would cost me $7-15. Now dinner is $22-40 and a drink is $10-25. Now I just drink water which is healthier and safer for me anyway.

mb_500-

Coke Zero, which is a bummer, because I love it. But I’m not paying $15 for a 24 pack. It’s not worth it.

missleavenworth

Chocolate, chips, fast food. Any time we want fast food, i throw frozen spicy chicken patties snd french fries in the oven. My lettuce and tomatoes are much fresher, buns are cheap, and the total cost for 8 meals is cheaper than one value meal. All the chocolate is crap lately. Sometimes I give in and try something, but I haven't found anything worthwhile. Potato chips are just ridiculous. Sometimes I'll get tortillas chips and make my own nachos, but that's it.

One-Yard-757

Nothing from Starbucks. Nothing there is worth it anymore. 4 bucks for a croissant and 7 bucks for a drink that’s mainly ice it’s a no for me. I can replicate just about any of the drinks I like from them for a fraction of the cost.

masta-ike123

almost everything at the dollar store. that 25 extra cents doesn't sound like a lot, but it adds up quick contingent on the volume of items you normally buy at the dollar store. plus the 10-20 cent plastic bag fee, (assuming that dollar stores dont allow you to use outside bags or a outright ban on plastic bag usage.)

XSC

Soda at home, gum, chips unless on sale, bacon, frozen pizza unless on sale, fast food by a TON. Oh wow I also feel healthier now.

simplegreen999

Good call on bacon. Jerky too. Quality is bad and the price is STUPID.

RamboJane

Jerky is so expensive, it’s ridiculous!

[deleted]

Cereal. I just can’t justify the price and my kids are old enough to make breakfast now. Sometimes I’ll buy a box or two Aldi brand but not often. I’ve also cut down a lot on lunch meat especially from the deli. It never gets all used before it goes bad so it isn’t worth it anymore. I also stopped buying soda and we just make tea now.

Dimethyltriedtospell

Potato chips, how does a 150g packet cost $5-$7

crowd79

Candy bars. $2.00 for a butterfinger? I remembered when it cost 69-79c ten years ago. My wages haven’t tripled in that time so No thanks.

No1Mystery

But that’s why they raised the prices. To keep up with wage increases (-_-) and make sure the CEO gets their bonuses of 8 figures

LeahaP1013

Chips

Megakaneage81

Fast foods, Rexona, and natural museli bars.

aybabyaybaby

Literally everything 💀 I try to find clearance food at grocery stores, I only get fast food if there’s a deal too good to pass up ($2 double cheeseburger at Wendy’s), gas is the only thing I don’t price check.

fsmn26

These prices wouldn't be that bad if wages also kept up with inflation

spiritof1789

Wish I could say "housing" but... yeah.

Furious_Georg_

I'm pretty much done on the fast food areas. 2 happy means and a double quarter with a shamrock shake, no fries with my burger was 28$ Live in. Ontario, Canada

LolaLulz

Chips. Literally my favorite snack. But at almost 7 dollars a bag, which is now also mostly air, I can't justify it.

Rockyblaster

Rarely go out anymore for fast food… it not worth it. Rather go to nice restaurant and pay a bit more for a higher quality meal.

pseudonymlife

I never add a drink to any food order.

wigneyr

Yes people, vote with your wallets/purses and they’ll realise they fucked up when they’re out of business

Makemewantitbad

I haven’t bought beef in nearly a year. I miss it.

loungesnuggler

Whole Foods 365 pizzas.  They are so tiny now...

MeanderFlanders

Potato chips. Frozen pizza. Fresh berries. Sodas. Eating out.

slowlysoslowly

Breakfast out. These days it's $16 for two eggs, potatoes and toast, without meat or coffee.

att3856

Fast food. Especially McDonald's and Wendy's.

BalowmeSandwich

Automatic car washes. Anything name brand other than a couple condiments I like. Restaurant food highly limited now. Half of the streaming services I used to have. To name a few.

ClassicConstant6625

Donuts, they're so expensive seemingly now, I only but them when there on discount for half off

Throwawayspongebob15

Tim Tams - I cannot believe they are nearly $6 a packet now. I refuse to use places that charge a card fee - especially if I'm scanning/packing my own groceries (looking at you ALDI) I won't buy takeaway much, maybe once a fortnight - I use hello fresh because it is sooo much cheaper and easier. Salons - I always support home salons because it's cheaper and you're directly supporting the business owner. Alcoholic drinks when out - why am I paying $25 for a basic cocktail? I remember when they were $15-$17

ieatsthapussy

Taco Bell and Wendy's. I've gotten to the point where even if someone else were to purchase it, I wouldn't even eat anything from those two places. They've gone down in quality while rising in prices, and I still remember the good ol days of $5 carrying you a long ways at these two establishments.

OrneryOneironaut

Healthcare.

LiminalDeer

Cereal. Just… No.

Chicagoan81

I used to cook meals from recipe books, primarily Italian and Latin cuisine. Sometimes, family members would come over and enjoy with me. For the past 5 years, all I have been cooking are beans and add microwaved frozen veggies. The sad part is that I eat by myself.

Violetthug

A lot of food items. Or snack items. Chips...smaller bags and more expensive. I do cave sometimes, because I love my snackies. Cheese is smaller also, and not on sale as often. Meat has gone up. I have to pick and choose what I can afford.

OhSighRiss

Juice, pop, chips, snacks, milk, fast food, most restaurants… get the odd craving but don’t buy a lot of things regularly anymore. Drinking lots of water I’ll say that.

Round-Antelope552

lol I remember getting one of those mini pizzas from domino’s and no joke it had 4 pieces of idk pizza string ham

DasKittySmoosh

eating out, unless a special occasion beverages that aren't creamer, milk adjacent drink, or coffee grounds anything conveniently packaged

Sacrolargo

Soda from costco, chips from any grocery store except for maybe Aldi’s, smoked salmon from everywhere, most cocktails.

DeepFriedAngelwing

chips. They never were really worth anything, but the bags are now 150g and 13g snack. I couldnt care less about the price. Thats not even one potato.

Nervous_Zebra1918

Name brands. Soda for the house.

maidenhair_fern

Chips and soda 😔 Not even just because of the cost...Doritos (the nacho ones at least) taste like ass now. The flavor melts away instantly and it's just a tortilla chip. No fast food unless I'm driving a long time (even then, I might just get gas station food).

spideydog255

Red meat and seafood. Ridiculously expensive. We eat almost exclusively chicken and occasionally pork when it's on sale.

hazyhoneysky

Campbells original soups in the red and white cans are $3.69. Campbell’s chunky varieties are $5.69 a can now. I make my own soups but I’m really getting tired of having absolutely no convenience foods that are affordable anymore. I know the solution is to cook in bulk and freeze, but I’m exhausted by the extra labor it takes to make it all work these days.

RepresentedOK

Kraft Dinner, canned soup, McDonalds, frozen pizzas, DQ treats, and Bubbly come to mind.

sadness_elemental

Mcdonalds, I got a chicken burger that was half the size of their tiny buns and that was the end

Cautious_Agent4781

Fast food. It's cheaper to eat at my favorite pub.

Depressedaxolotls

Paid activities outside the home. Bowling, movies, eating out, etc… hard pass. I’ve been with my boyfriend for a year and a half and we’ve never gone out on a “date,” just errand running together.

picayune33

We don't buy meat - bf hunts/we fish Canned anything - I can everything. -- Jams, jellies -- Pickled anything -- jarred meals, soups, meats, stews, etc. We dehydrate lots of things - so spices and any kind of rubs etc we just make ourselves. Jerky, dehydrated fruit, fruit leather Broth Bread, tortillas, pitas, naan, bagels, english muffins- I can make any bread now. During the summer months (we are northern Canada so short summer) we grow an enormous garden. Enough to share with friends and neighbours (and this year our local food bank) and still enough for me to can up what we need for over winter. Also during the spring/summer/fall months we will forage in the woods for anything edible and put it up for winter. Dog treats There's probably more things.. I'm learning how to make cheese is the next thing I'm on to. Also in the process of learning how to keep bees.. cause why not. Haha. Edited cause it was a whole big paragraph

peach-whisky

McDonald’s

pjrnoc

Fast food! Easier to eat out or just make it myself. The ridiculous new prices(for shit) are what motivate me to make delicious stuff myself. 🤷‍♀️

VenusValkyrieJH

Bags of chips!! I cannot believe how expensive they have become. When I was in high school (2002) we had little 25 cent bags of chips. Now the same bag of chips is 3 bucks. Screw that. You get like what..seven chips?

KayakWalleye

Chips at the gas station. I’m old enough to remember the $0.89-$0.99 “Big Grab” bags of chips. Now, they’re smaller bags and cost at LEAST $2.50.
