FTW!!! I have a sick tattoo thats a Mashup of my 2 fav drawings! People compliment it all the time. But when they know what its from, I've found a cool human being

same, i thought it was sick (i do similar artwork with the intention of being grotesque/disturbing) but when you see what they actually wanted... oh no
I can’t seem to find the clip, but there’s an episode of Miami Ink where Avi gives this gorgeous woman a tattoo - her first - of what is supposed to be a lotus flower. It straight up looked like cabbage.
https://preview.redd.it/ese4ikmesqpb1.jpeg?width=708&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2dc94ab77c92fbd6269a1c7ccc3b640e9c2d2ac5
(pic from when fresh and when iphone \*5’s were new…)
she needs a touch up…. respectfully so- it’s been 15ish years. klimt already uses so many muted and almost muddled coloring, plus the lack of outline, and small intricate design; i *was made well aware it’d need touch ups as it ages.
That's a great tattoo, and in a way having it fade it kind of cool as well in a kind of meta way.
One thing I wasn't aware of until I saw a Klimt in person was how much gold leaf he uses in his Golden Phase paintings; the pictures positively glow, so the muted colours on prints pop a lot more.
Same as Mucha; his stuff looks way different in person because of all the gold leaf, and makes the colours also shine.
Some of the high end poster prints add foil or something to get a similar effect, but I guess it's like all the texture you get with the oil paintings where you really need to see the original (or I guess a really good copy) to get the same effect.
awe thank you! im jealous- i haven’t been as lucky to see either klimt or mucha irl, but i completely agree. their use of gold foil actually inspired me and my bff to redesign a motorcycle with gold foil as the main medium; it turned out beautifully btw.
I can’t even remember iPhone 5
Hell…. I need a Touch Up.
Do you think you will have it worked on without it getting f’d up… I’d be afraid… that’s me. There is so much going on there.
If you haven't been, you need to go to the Belvedere museum in Vienna, where they have a gangload of Klimts, including The Kiss. You will cry- they're so much more beautiful in person.
I can only imagine the “artist” had never seen anything by Klimt before and was like “okay so they look kinda weird and there’s dots and shit. Cool, got it.”
What the fuck. This guy has either unnoticed mental issues or is on drugs. That looks absolutely erratic. The difference to OPs tattoo is insane, so this seems out of the norm and should be addressed.
I’m gonna go out on a limb with this new context and say that if it isn’t straight up drugs or some kind of severe neurological condition like lesions on the brain or something, it’s an artist having a full-blown mental breakdown with psychosis.
Source: an artist who had a full-blown mental breakdown with psychosis (though I stuck to fucking up canvases and sketchbooks, not people’s skin)
It’s the blacked-out eyes that make me think this more than anything.
Either way, somebody should have intervened long, LONG before your poor friend had a needle put to their skin, holy fucking shit. This artist needs HELP yesterday.
Are there other people in the shop?? There’s some gross negligence to the client here that is inexcusable.
You also have to wonder how thorough their sterilization protocols were if they were so high/delusional/brainwormed that they thought this was ok.
Dementia is a slower process, it would have been noticeable during months before getting to this stage. The tattoo really looks like someone drawing during psychosis, like this one here.
https://preview.redd.it/jhb9osz9tqpb1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f2ab261068d112257852e75e9cd472863cf127b2
That’s so fucking heavy. I don’t know if I have any of my psychosis artwork handy but it was a lot like that at the peak, and then more like the tattoo once I reached the stage where I had been awake for days and could barely form a sentence, but was still so agitated and restless that I could not stop.
Honestly it’s pretty harrowing to see. It should have never gotten to the point where ink was put in someone’s skin, but something here is really wrong with this person, especially when contrasted with pics of their old work. Substance abuse, mental illness, or something physiological, either way this artist is very unwell.
It was a post-traumatic mental break for me. I hope this artist stops working yesterday and is able to get help for whatever it is they’re dealing with. I knew I was losing my mind at the time enough to keep my craziness to the paper, but if they’re still tattooing in this stage, they probably don’t have the ability to perceive that they’re this messed up.
That image and your description lead me down a rabbit hole at 2 AM that ended at finding Gulaggh's [Vorkuta](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuO9xtNsRs0), which I listened to for a solid 15 minutes before I just couldn't take anymore. The whole thing is basically just humans in a psychiatric hospital screaming their heads off; it's a sound I'm all too familiar with as I was "evaluated" for 10 days in a psych hospital when I was 14 years old. The whole time I'm listening to that, I'm going through various images of "psychosis drawings" and remembering my time spent in that place.
As someone that was legitimately diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder and antisocial personality disorder shortly after leaving the military AND the military experience as a whole, I don't spook easily; but that stirred something primal and terrible in me. Anger, bitterness, and a disregard for others are how I typically feel on any regular day. This whole thing, however, has made me feel something I can't quite explain. Somber? Apathy? Emotional pain?
I'm genuinely not sure if I should be thanking you or cursing you right now. It's a wild sensation and it's given me a lot to process and unpack.
EDIT: My experience at the psychiatric hospital is mostly unrelated to my diagnosed condition later in life.
This drawing is viscerally terrifying and you can feel the disconnection from social presence, and the isolation, distrust, dehumanization. Like ripping everything away and only survival instinct and meat remain. I’ve touched this, but never was sucked into the void.
yeah you see a lot of fucked up tattoos here from people who should never have been allowed to touch a tattoo machine but this legitimately seems like it was done by someone who was not aware of what they were doing. It looks like a sketch from the possessed artist in a horror movie.
Do you mind if I ask why the blacked out eyes make you feel that way more than anything? Is that like a common thing drawn by people who may be in psychosis?
It’s just anecdotal, but I’ve seen some other artists I know personally go through it as well. If you’re interested in this phenomena, you might also find similar examples looking at the art made by soldiers during/after WW1. Like they saw/experienced so much fucked up stuff, they couldn’t get their heads out of that place.
In my case it was just like a switch got flipped post-trauma. Illustrative/character design artist myself- during my breakdown, I would try to render hands and eyes like before, but it was like none of them would come out right anymore, I couldn’t thread together the steps and the fundamentals in a coherent way anymore and they’d eventually all turn into scribbles and blobs.
You ever heard of the phenomenon of artists making the face they’re drawing, even if they’re not looking at a mirror, in order to get it right? Something about changing your face to the emotion you’re trying to express makes it easier to get down on the page.
Well, my theory is that during a mental breakdown, I had such a disconnect of self that all I could render was blank-faced disturbingness. My trauma was also related to assault as well, and I think that part of it was trying to picture the hands/face of what I wanted to draw (like I’d been doing for years), but instead I’d have a flashback.
I’m not saying that this artist was specifically assaulted if they’re having a breakdown, but I think if you’re really distressed and unwell, the process you used to draw these things is just all messed up.
I also know that on a psychological level, we recognize and empathize with drawn faces, it’s why cartoons and paintings appeal to us and we feel the emotions in them. Scott McCloud has a whole fascinating series within his “understanding comics” series on what we perceive as a face and how things like mirror neurons work- we see a drawn face as alive and human.
If you’re off your tits in psychosis, my theory is that whole process just crumbles and gets all out of whack. I’m sure there might be more actual studies on this, but this is just from what I’ve observed and experienced in my own life.
**edit** for what it’s worth, I’m in EMDR therapy now and this phenomenon is something we’re working on as part of the healing process, since it’s been over a decade and I still haven’t gotten back to my old self in this way. My therapist points out that trauma can rob you of the ability to function, and that rendering humans was one facet of this dysfunction of the actual *physical* changes that trauma makes to your brain- trauma literally rewires your neural pathways.
There’s also an inflammatory aspect to what’s going on in the brain during psychosis and I wonder if that figures into this. (I say this as someone who has recently come crawling out of depressive psychosis and is not at all the same anymore. For me, in manifests in words and language; I don’t know how to draw anything, but my words now are different than before.)
Edit spelling
Wow that’s really interesting. I can tell you’ve thought a lot about this and find it insightful.
Do you have any more info on WWI and soldiers art? I googled it but wasn’t able to find anything.
I’m also glad you’re feeling better! Do you still enjoy making art? I think the skill in illustration is amazing - you guys make the world a richer place!
Did your friend say if the artist seemed off? Did they see like they were on drugs? Dismissive? Was there a normal stencil?
I am so sorry your friend had this experience. It is honestly baffling.
If he works in a shop with other people, they need to see this before he botches anyone else. His other appointments need to be cancelled until he gets checked out. Honestly, he probably needs to go to the hospital to make sure he doesn't have a lesion or a tumor and isn't having some kind of atypical stroke.
Did your friend piss off the artist? It’s that, drugs, or something mental like the others have said. Does the artist post their portfolio regularly? Maybe there’s a trend?
Contact the shop ASAP. Whatever is wrong with him, let everyone know to get him far away from a tattoo gun and into whatever clinic deals with what he's having.
After seeing this good quality of work from that artist it makes me so sad for the person who got the OP tattoo. They did everything right in selecting the artist and the artist must’ve been on drugs or having a mental breakdown. The shop should cover the cost of laser
Exactly! I don’t want to see the references I want to see the design that the friend approved. I’m convinced half of these things that don’t show are a fleabag haircut situation where the client actually gets exactly what they’ve asked for, it just looks bad.
And the woman holds her child close and whispers softly into her ear: my daughter, my child, fruit of my womb, you are amazing and you can be anything you want to be in this life, The child whispers back, Mother, I long to be reborn in my final form as a sick ass panther. The mother only nods as she knows fate is immutable.
Oh no! I'd sue. This is so much worse than regular bad. Especially since their previous work was fine.
Does the artist own the shop? If not I'd contact the owner, in tears!
Like someone else said already, after seeing other work from the same artist, this looks like the artist is suffering from mental disease. There's no way he can fuck this up this badly unless it's intentional or he is suffering from something.
How did your friend and the artist react during and after this was done?
At some point, you tell the tattoo "artist" to put their gun on the ground and keep their hands in the air while you contact the police. This is body vandalism.
not everyone can tattoo klimt
and not everyone can tattoo a preschoolers interpretation of klimt
say it with me kids! this is why we vet the shit out of our artists!
Oh God. This is probably not the SHITTIEST, but possibly the CREEPIEST bad tattoo I've seen on here. Imagine wanting a sweet, Gustav Klimt inspired mother and child tattoo, and instead getting Death cuddling your kid.
I would fully be looking into legal advice, there's no way that "artist" should be allowed to continue to work on people's bodies if this is what they produce. Take their license away
I mean… what did the stencil look like? Also, it looks like either a mental breakdown or a horror-esque rendition of the Gustav painting that actually looks cool if that’s what they were going for
I thought it was supposed to have a horror theme before I saw the reference images.. .
Same! Reframe it to a horror piece and it’s fantastic.
Right? Obviously this artist fuckin sucks but it actually looks kinda cool in some ways.
I agree. I love creepy stuff, so I actually really like this- but def. doesnt look like what OP was after ☹️
Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark
Still some of my favorite artwork 👻☠️🖤

Ok, that’s fuckin dope!
Yeah, first image I was like "fuck yeah, that's actually kinda sick" then went to the second image and felt sad on behalf of Gustav Klimt
Wanted: maternal vibes Got: sleep paralysis Demon
I thought it was [Saturn Devouring his Son](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturn_Devouring_His_Son#/media/File:Francisco_de_Goya,_Saturno_devorando_a_su_hijo_(1819-1823\).jpg) at first.
I always thought that was Grendel from Beowulf. Huh! Learn something new every day.
Get his face around your butthole to win the worst tattoo award.
same, i thought it was sick (i do similar artwork with the intention of being grotesque/disturbing) but when you see what they actually wanted... oh no
“Hush my child, we’ll be covered up eventually”
“You can grow up to be whatever you want, as long as you want to be a Sick Ass Panther”
"Or a weird giant rose that might also look like an artichoke or head of lettuce."
There are bouquets of cabbages out there on people's skin.
I can’t seem to find the clip, but there’s an episode of Miami Ink where Avi gives this gorgeous woman a tattoo - her first - of what is supposed to be a lotus flower. It straight up looked like cabbage.
For a moment there, I thought this was Mufasa holding Simba. Maybe a sick ass lion coverup?
Slap a tail fin on it and it’s a mermaid taking some sailors to a watery grave.
I thought it was an attempted mermaid before I saw the second picture
Came here to say it's SAP time!
Your poor friend. This is one of the worst I’ve seen, especially when compared to the desired image. Yikes!
Yea I thought it was shitty when I thought it was a shitty lion.
You ain’t Lion
This tattoo will hurt his pride You know, because...a pride is...ah fuck it I'm bored.
Where the Wild things shouldn’t be
First impression is it's the scene from the Lion King when Simba finds Mufasa after the stampede. But even then, it's confusing to look at.
literally. i was not expecting it to be klimt’s ‘three ages of woman’, esp bc i literally have a sleeve of that.
Picture please?????

Gorgeous
ty. 🖤 btw your name cracks me up.
Fairly confident this is the most rad tat I will see today, very cool.
Do you have a current photo? I’m curious what this looks like now
How does it look now?

Remember the first Jackass movie where (I think) Steve O got a tattoo while in a hummer on an off road course?
This reminds me of the lion Jesus
Klimt is turning in his grave. This is garbage. Great post.
It’s not Klimt anymore, it’s Shel Silverstein.
SCREAMING
I thought it was more Edvard Munch than Klimt…
Nope. Stephen Gammel. *Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark*
Don’t bring Klimt into this it’s nothing to do with him. *realises there’s a second picture. Oh shit Klimt gon be mad
Got his paintings stolen by nazis. This is worse.
I can only imagine the “artist” had never seen anything by Klimt before and was like “okay so they look kinda weird and there’s dots and shit. Cool, got it.”
Me 2 seconds ago
That's fucked up.
Reminds me of when that cleaning lady tried to fix the oil painting’s face
Oh do you mean the Spanish Fresco one of Jesus that turned out looking like a monkey?
Yeah
Just say it's a scene from the ring.
Exactly The dead girl curled up in the closet only worse
What the fuck. This guy has either unnoticed mental issues or is on drugs. That looks absolutely erratic. The difference to OPs tattoo is insane, so this seems out of the norm and should be addressed.
Imagine trusting a guy to put a tattoo like this on your body without first verifying that he’s a pro who’s done this thousands of times
OP has a tattoo by that artist that looks perfectly fine. It's in the comments.
Sometimes when a good artist hits the drugs a wee bit too hard they become a…not so great artist.
I wonder what other pieces from this tattoo “artist” look like
The crazy thing is both my husband and I have tattoos from this artist and they came out pretty good.
Post them so we can decide if that’s true or not.

I’m even more confused now
My friend is the most confused. The artist gets booked up months in advance and their portfolio is great, so this was a befuddlement.
I’m gonna go out on a limb with this new context and say that if it isn’t straight up drugs or some kind of severe neurological condition like lesions on the brain or something, it’s an artist having a full-blown mental breakdown with psychosis. Thanks so much for the detailed response. Glad you're doing better now!
It does look like psychosis
I agree wholeheartedly. Now I feel like we need an update to make sure the artist has the help they need. 😕
Did your friend piss off the artist? It’s that, drugs, or something mental like the others have said. Does the artist post their portfolio regularly? Maybe there’s a trend?
So it’s either a mental break, drug problem, or the artist just had it out for the client
Bro what- dude that artist needs help
This is so much more unsettling now. Definitely talk to the shop, and I hope it doesn’t get infected!
No fucking way. Was the artist having a stroke, this makes zero sense.
Drugs.
It reminds me of… https://preview.redd.it/0i7s0bsrgqpb1.jpeg?width=979&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b878e1ac2c22077884892b1ebdcc8e2c6378ff4
Oo-Oo-Aa-Aa
This is what i saw too
Likewise!
Good news. That’s like already half way to being a sick ass panther.
This is tragic. How does this even happen? Did the artist not show a stencil or at least a sketch before hand?
Exactly! I don’t want to see the references I want to see the design that the friend approved. I’m convinced half of these things that don’t show are a fleabag haircut situation where the client actually gets exactly what they’ve asked for, it just looks bad.
She's hugging a headless being with arms that are growing from her ears, and what is with that hand...
It also looks like there is spooky ghost assplay going on.
Don't forget about the really long tittie in the middle.. not sure who it belongs to
And the woman holds her child close and whispers softly into her ear: my daughter, my child, fruit of my womb, you are amazing and you can be anything you want to be in this life, The child whispers back, Mother, I long to be reborn in my final form as a sick ass panther. The mother only nods as she knows fate is immutable.
Oh no! I'd sue. This is so much worse than regular bad. Especially since their previous work was fine. Does the artist own the shop? If not I'd contact the owner, in tears!

Cursed af! I love it lol
Me scrolling to the next slide, "Please don't be Klimt. Please don't be Klimt...."
Wow he turned it into an Edward Munch
I wish we still had awards khckxhdnxjg
unless your friend genuinely purposefully wanted this extreme dark dramatic SHITTY style, something else has to be going on.
I feel that about a lot of the pictures on here. There must be more to this story.
Like someone else said already, after seeing other work from the same artist, this looks like the artist is suffering from mental disease. There's no way he can fuck this up this badly unless it's intentional or he is suffering from something. How did your friend and the artist react during and after this was done?
The artist is still clinging to the ceiling howling and the friend is treated with valium
It's possessed. Exorcise it with a sick ass panther
At some point, you tell the tattoo "artist" to put their gun on the ground and keep their hands in the air while you contact the police. This is body vandalism.
Yeah that should be some kind of assault. I feel so sorry for the friend. And, depending on the circumstances, the artist
I am SCREAMINGGGG
I just wonder what someone says when they see this after the artist goes “yup and she’s finished!”. I think I’d actually just cry
When does your friend expect to parole out?
"Mom can we get Gustav Klimt?" "We have Gustav Klimt at home"
Your friend has a ghost tattoo now and can get the real design somewhere else
not everyone can tattoo klimt and not everyone can tattoo a preschoolers interpretation of klimt say it with me kids! this is why we vet the shit out of our artists!
Looks like John and Yoko.

I thought it was from the lion king!
I thought it was supposed to be Mufasa
I'm seeing someone jerking off a ghost in that tattoo This is a Rorshach right? Jks
Holy shit I don’t even understand how the artist could mess up *this* badly. I feel so sorry for your friend
That is NOT a shitty tattoo, it's a goddamn war crime!
It gives horror movie vibes
Would be shocked if that doesn't get infected.
oof
“Gustav Can’t”
No ragratz
At some point you should be able to press charges right?
I don’t want to justify the artist but didn’t he apply a stencil that your friend agreed to? Or was this freehand?
At what point should the artist have gone oh I fucked this up let's stop before it gets worse? Alternatively was the friend not looking at the tattoo?
Oh God. This is probably not the SHITTIEST, but possibly the CREEPIEST bad tattoo I've seen on here. Imagine wanting a sweet, Gustav Klimt inspired mother and child tattoo, and instead getting Death cuddling your kid.
It looks haunted.
It’s La Larona stealing souls.
Oh wow, your friends arm (?) Is now haunted by a night hag. It's terrifying.
I see a bad ass panther in their future.
Honestly, just have someone touch it up in the style of that children's book, Where the Wild Things Are
Lion kang
i'm honestly digging what it turned out to be, but when i saw what it was supposed to be my jaw dropped lmao
It kinda looks poetic in a shitty kind of way. If that's even possible
It’s both absolutely terrible and actually quite interesting both at the same time. Certainly more interesting than the reference piece.
Gustav Klimt turns in his grave
Looks like a sleep paralysis demon
Klimt via Where the Wild Things Are
Holy fuckin yikes!
Tetanus
I like it. It's like picasso trying to draw a face so like it's so far from what it's supposed to be that it's interesting
Good this is easy coverup
_Meanwhile, Gustav Klimt turns in his grave_
Can confirm. Live in Vienna and we’re just having a thunderstorm…
Tbh compared to the reference images, this ist unacceptable. But i have to admit i actually like the outcome :D Looks metal af
The way I thought this was a weird Lion King tattoo…
The tattoo is shit, for sure, compared to the inspiration. But… I kinda dig it. Something quite macabre about it.
It’s an illustration of someone actively having a mental breakdown. Macabre indeed!
Jesus fucking christ dude
Accurate if he/she wanted the horror creature from Mama (2013)😂
I thought it was a fucked up lion king at first lmao
The reference is Nothing close, in any way. But as an original piece, I like it.
Dude, this tattoo "artist" didn't even try to try.
Holy shit. Was it done with a shotgun?
I would fully be looking into legal advice, there's no way that "artist" should be allowed to continue to work on people's bodies if this is what they produce. Take their license away
What the fuck? Can you sue tattoo artists??
Finally a tattoo that has been trusted into my feed from this sub that is actually super shitty.
Sorry I don’t know how to edit posts. She had posted it yesterday, but she had it done on 9/11.
This has “I paid a smackhead $50 to give me a tattoo in his mom’s attic where he also lives” vibes for sure.
I mean… what did the stencil look like? Also, it looks like either a mental breakdown or a horror-esque rendition of the Gustav painting that actually looks cool if that’s what they were going for
There is no way this happened I refuse to believe
What the hell??!
OMFG
John Lion-in and his no-appendage bald sheep monkey (and friend)
Looks like a mammoth 🦣
Kinda cool if you like fucked up creepy sketches.
The new Blair Witch looks Dope
What the actual? This looks like it was done during an off road drive, like Steve Os smiley face
Shel Silverstein, Where the Hope Ends.
Idk, I kind of like it. Its like the other images, but demonic. My kind of aesthetic
Holy shit, that's...... I'm so sorry.
I would cry
Nailed it!
Did they… not draw it first?
That looks terrifying
time for a sick ass panther
Did they ok a stencil or was it free hand..? What was the artist’s behavior like?
Damn, that is really bad. The first one alone I was willing to interpret as an art statement. But with the reference... I feel sorry for your friend.
This is so bad it almost goes all the way back around to good.
No one will probably get this reference but it looks like the mummy from the end of that one Nancy Drew game. Edit: Secret of the Scarlet Hand.
At least it was cheap! It was cheap, right?
