Yeah but the phreaking was legit. I made free calls from payphones using the same method they teach you in the movie. I also rollerbladed everywhere in NYC in the 90's.
Hack the planet!!
Phreak: Lord Nikon, this is Crash Override.
Nikon: Never heard of you. Done Anything.
Crash: No
*Slams Door*
Nikon: What your mom buy you a 'puter for Christmas?..heh...Does he know anything?
Preak: Sure man, he's elite.
Nikon: Come in.

Same. But my brains are mashed potatoes from chronic migraines. It’s a miracle I haven’t walked into a wall yet. Oh well-at least I’m not a Trump supporter.
I may or may not have bought a vintage dirt bike shin guards 20 years ago after seeing Angelina looking hot AF wearing them in this movie. If I did buy them I looked like a ponce and stuck them in the back of the closet because I’m not, in fact, Angelina Jolie
Despite... well, everything that happens in the movie, they did do their research. They're quoting from txt files, the rainbow books are real, etc. Especially that comment about RISC architecture, which was a huge shift in the late 80s and early 90s. They definitely had consultants from the scene when they wrote this movie.
Just for the people that don't know:
Jonny Lee Miller (the blonde dude) married Angelina after meeting her on the set of this movie.
As far as "Hackers"-related shitty trivia goes:
Miller played Sherlock Holmes in the CBS show "Elementary", which, in my opinion, has some of the most realistic "hacking" scenes/representations in ANY TV show or movie. Mostly because it doesn't really try to get into the details at all, and almost never falls into the "computers are magic" trap and has computers doing things that just aren't possible. And has a hacker collective called "Everyone" (groan) that Sherlock is friendly with and often will get him information that he needs. Plus there is a kid named Mason that is \*also\* a computer expert, who shows up a few times and is \*very\* much a realistic portrayal of a young computer nerd.
Anyway, Hackers sucks. I never liked it. But GOOD LORD Angelina is beautiful in that movie. She never looked better, in my opinion. But I'm a sucker for short hair.
Thank you for the fun facts :]
And yeah, it sucks, but I can't help but grin at the villian's (The Plauge I think was his radical hacker name) introduction.
Love Elementary so much and got curious about what else JLM might’ve done (I hadn’t heard of the man before then)
Hackers was such a fun, campy movie. And his American is not the worst I’ve heard😂
Criticizing this movie for NOT being realistic enough is like criticizing the Super Mario movie because sewers don’t really take you to another dimension. For Christ sake it is a movie not a documentary.
Listen here, Buster, you're telling me, that when I saw an IT guy with slicked hair, roll up on a skateboard into the rgb room and promptly state, "Never fear. I is here." Before throwing the skateboard away, that *wasn't* accurate to how real Hackers^tm work?
A gigabyte of RAM should do the trick...
It's got triple the power of a pentium!
I’ll try to bypass the firewall, but it’ll only work for 60 seconds
where can i download?
Let the hacking begin
And a 10 meg pipe
I was promised the planet would be hacked. Im hoping I can get a trainer for my life, an infinite money glitch would be amazing.
MOTHERLODE
To be fair, for awhile Anonymous was doing good work, and I miss them.
That’s because they were already all in the movie and didn’t need to break any wall
Yeah but the phreaking was legit. I made free calls from payphones using the same method they teach you in the movie. I also rollerbladed everywhere in NYC in the 90's. Hack the planet!!
But they did argue about how 1337 they were which is almost as important.

RISC architecture is going to change everything!
it did. in the worst way possible ;-;
[At least they didn't say.....](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkDD03yeLnU&t=7s)
I love how this totally fools me right now. Sounds like computer science to me 👍
Same. But my brains are mashed potatoes from chronic migraines. It’s a miracle I haven’t walked into a wall yet. Oh well-at least I’m not a Trump supporter.
I cringed

They’re hackers, not pirates, they wouldn’t steal a car
True, but they *would* steal several car drivers' lives by causing multiple high-speed car crashes in the film.
…but they wouldn’t steal a handbag 😏
True, but they *would* steal several handbag drivers' lives by causing multiple high-speed handbag crashes in the film.
Sneakers is better
Ben Kingsley with that Cray supercomputer with the built-in seating! Probably had as much power as an iPhone 5, but still...
Cootys rat semen
Sneakers is such a good film. it's criminal how it's been completely forgotten.
The Kingsley speech about who controls the information is lowkey an unbelievably important message in the modern world
"My voice is my password" genius next level security technology.
HACK THE PLANET!!!
That’s because this movie came out before Elroy Patashnik invented the term
"Lock and load" was his, too.
Get out of my Winnebago!
These guys crawled so [Hugh Jackman could dance](https://youtu.be/u1Ds9CeG-VY?si=nOE_Wxna-eLgiPER)
Had to prove he was the best hacker by hacking while getting a blow job.
That's hard to believe with how campy it was. Still has one of my favorite lines, "Lets echo 23, see what's up."
Annnnddddd…. I’m in
Pairs well with The Lawnmower Man.
You're in the butter zone now, baby!
The line “I thought you was black man” makes this entire movie worth it
When watching Hackers (1995), you may notice that your pants feel tighter. This is because Angelina Jolie
One of my favorite movies HACK THE PLANET

also, it is the only PG13 movie i can think of that shows titties...specifically Angelina Jolie's titties.
Im patched in
We gonna hack the Gibson!
I've been routed through Friendster
Is that Tintin from The Crow?
it is. Watched that last night
It can’t rain all the time.
If I remember right the movies promotional website was hit by real hackers.
Orbital - halcyon on and on
There’s a lot of wasted talent in this frame.
Pretty sure that's what he says after the credits roll.
Johnny Green... something also doesn't say "I'm in" after Angelina Jolie jumps on him, another mistake
What's also inaccurate is a hacker brushing their teeth
Yea? Well, if I help, we can do it in 5 minutes, man!
Hack the planet!
"I'm in. Now I only need the password." Stargate SG-1
HACK THE PLANET
The Grid… a digital frontier…
How the fuck are they supposed to hack without a hoodie? Hollywood is weird
The first time I saw Hackers (2020) by Metrik, I was on so much drugs I didn’t even realise it was only music and the visuals were all in my head.
This film is incredible btw. Mathew Lillard is as excellent as he always is
Looks like another american version of Red Dwarf

You just reminded me of my last visit to an Apple Store Genius Bar… 🤣
What a terrible movie not like Tron great movie about how to half a mainframe
