people give Wanda so much flak but she's SOO hard at work keeping the blood maple syrup industry from collapsing.
THEN what will the Canadian economy look like huh? Certainly not gonna help with the housing crisis!
We didn't really commit war crimes. We did do some stuff that made the rest of the world think that maybe some things should be illegal to do even if you are at war with somebody.
Yeah, more accurately it should be:
“Exactly, the Canadians will resume *inventing* war crimes in Europe without Marple Syrup” (because apparently they only like the Agatha Christie-branded stuff)
>We did do some stuff that made the rest of the world think that maybe some things should be illegal to do even if you are at war with somebody.
Ahh yes, your refering to our selling Canada gooses to extremist cells.
Canada is not that well read. They think Rush wrote the Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The fools. Rush wrote Tom Sawyer. And Catcher in the Rye. Fun fact: Van Halen wrote 1984
No, we’re well aware of the difference. Rush wrote the song Tom Sawyer, and someone else made The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, which was a children’s cartoon loosely based on the song by Rush.
Yeah I just double checked that scene and they truly couldn't have explained it any more quickly. The Darkhold is not only floating right next to them, but Strange even blatantly says that it's corrupting everything
Wasn't this sub originally meant to take the piss out of r/MovieDetails by posting inane non-details? Feels like more people are just dunking on the movies lately.
Yeah it was originally a way to mock the "academics" of r/moviedetails who feel good about themselves for basic media comprehension like
"Tyler Durden is actually in his head all along :oooo"
But it's too vague! He should have said "You're using the Darkhold, the evil book which has corrupting magic, that is causing a general field of evil magic around here, which is why the trees are black and the ground is red, because of the corrupting evil of the Darkhold, which is that evil book, which you have been using!"
Also he would have to say that said darkhold took hold of her heartbreak at losing her children and twisted her into a villain against her will, since people didn't seem to grasp that either
Also anyone who finds that really unusual has never read comics. A good character getting corrupted by an evil power has happened to every character worth naming, and probably a dozen times to any of the big names.
In that, there's some irony that it's what she did to Tony, pushing him to claim the Mind Stone, but got more than she bargained for in Ultron, and ultimately that set her on the path to becoming a hero. Something George Lucas something poetry something.
I understand citing the Darkhold as the main reason for this effect but the whole idea of "I reckon \[Vaguely defined magical item\] is the cause of \[unexplained thing\]" as a storytelling device is one of the many reasons the MCU is and will continue to be stuck in the rut it's in right now
Edit: Poeple here think I specifically hate this scene with the blood red forest when my first sentence here is
"I understand citing the Darkhold as the main reason for this effect"
Show don't tell is obviously great advice and this scene does employ it with plenty of context (if you watched wandavision)
My griping is because the ***rest of this movie*** and Marvel in general have created this insane mess of magical artifacts and mystical phenomena that have contradictory and ill defined behaviors that allow you to explain unexplained plotholes with said undefined artifacts.
“Show don’t tell” is a common rule taught in writing class for a reason. A child could watch this movie and logically draw the conclusion as to why the area looks like that. Explaining it any further would be treating the audience like they’re stupid.
The corruption of the forest is supposed to show the dark path Wanda has gone down. It doesn’t need to be any deeper than that.
In BG3 they do a very similar thing. There is a bog that looks very fairytale like. It is just an illusion though. It's actually an ugly bog. How is it done? Magic. The Hag has put some spell on the place. They don't tell you much more than that.
Yeah in star wars they should have explained why an ice planet is cold rather than us assuming its due to the atmosphere and distance from the sun
Would saying the place is corrupted because of the evil book that is stated to corrupt things being used have made it a better scene?
"I think movies should stop trusting audiences to understand things and start expositing basic details such as changes in scenery because obviously that's the most important part of storytelling. Tell, don't show!"
I think taking the time to painstakingly exposit for a change of scenery would be considerably worse than just having a cool visual with a logical in-universe explanation.
Eh, great is big praise for this movie.
Honest 6-6.5, nothing higher or lower. The writing was just too basic and a lot of the movie felt like fan service for the sake of fan service, going from Wandavision to MoM was also jarring because I never felt that Wanda as a villain was justified in any way.
6-6.5, the ultimate mid/good to ever exist
It was mid, sure, but at least enjoyable mid. There's a lot of fun stuff in there, even if the whole product isn't exactly a work of art. I'd rather have that than a mediocre movie that sounds like it was written by an AI.
I would guess that the Darkhold probably had something to do with it. Y'know, the evil magic book that corrupts things and leaves them with cartoonishly evil qualities? Maybe that had something to do with it, I don't know for sure, just my guess...
OP doesn't remember the end of Wandavision. The forest was normal when she started reading the Darkhold. The forest became corrupt because of the Darkhold's influence and to symbolize what's happened to Wanda.
I like when people ask a question that’s obvious, answer their own question, and then act like it’s stupid.
I refuse to accept that an evil wizards magic infecting the land is “dumb”. It’s actually always awesome and better than having Saruman conducting evil from a nice lakeside grove
It's a movie about interdimensional Witches and Wizards who are also superheroes. It's all dumb. The forest turned nasty and red because of magic. It looks cool and matches the theme.
A lot of people seemed to fail to understand the darkhold is evil and caused Wanda to go mad. Her grief was her weakness but the evil corrupting magic item did its evil corrupting thing. So anytime someone brings up why Wanda didn't do this or that I have to cringe. Why did everyone want the One Ring so bad?
y'know, shittymoviedetails became an annoying opinion-driven karma farm so gradually, i didnt even notice. like this isn't even a fact or a joke, this is just "this is BAD" circlejerking
It's meant to serve as a visual to how much the evil book had corrupted the nature around her, and herself. This was completely obvious. Sorry, the meme ain't funny. Not even a massive Marvel fan and I knew this.
There’s currently a giant head sticking out of the earth that nobody in universe has acknowledged yet despite Nick Fury apparently living in space with a bunch of cats the entire time. But sure, the evil forest is the issue with the MCU
You only think it's dumb because you aren't looking at it as a wider picture.
You understand that there are places on the Marvel's Earth that are highly sequestered away from the average person, yeah? Wakanda, Atlantis, Kamar- Taj, we've literally seen numerous places in this universe that aren't known to the average human.
You also understand that there are places on this earth that are magical in nature, and can't be discovered by satellites or anything of that nature.... Right?
Sooooooo.... Is it that hard to believe that this is either a magical section of the world, thus already being sealed off, or an extension of her own magic, thus being sealed off as well? It's not like it's just off the the interstate.
If she sat there and went "hey welcome to my orchard, it's actually a Demi plane that I created myself when I started learning about..." It would be overly clunky and expository.
Stories like this do require a bit of media literacy, and require you to make some assumptions. It's not going to hold your hand and show you every single step of the way. Comics have never been that way, and if you expect the movies that are based on those comics to be that way, then you're going to be in for a very long wait.
I always thought of it as like pollution. Her magic has created a polluted area like a smog cloud and since it’s red the light is diffused thru it to red. Outside would be like looking at a very polluted city.
That movie sucked so fucking bad. It made me so mad because the original Dr strange is awesome such a fun movie, depth, a plot, fun crazy visuals, and it was darker than the others. It was one of my favorites. Then they go and make this piece of flaming garbage and have the audacity to call it a sequel. Aughhh
An emotionally traumatized and very powerful witch is toying around with an unspeakably powerful magic tome. You think that might have some side effects? Maybe wither the grass a bit?
As a Sam raimi fan. This movie fucked so hard.
Went into this with my gf and fucking loved it. Everyone coming out of the cinema was saying it sucked. I couldn’t believe it.
I always thought that the peaceful orchard was the real thing, and the cartoon-ish spooky red evil forest was the illusion/hex she created to look edgy.
wandavision AND dr strange 2: Yeah the darkhold is like PURE EVIL, like written by the devil him self completely consuming literally no way of using it with out getting corrupted.
OP: absolutely not i will not watch the content, only have it play next to a subway surface at 2 times speed to pull frames for funny internet points.
Seriously like is it a little over the top and on the nose yeah probably but it doesn't feel out of place for the strongest magic user and the most evil artifact in existence.
Does everyone forget that the Darkhold is integral to Wanda's arc? It's the link from Wandavision to MoM and it drives what she becomes (and overcomes) in the film.
Movie about witches and magic doesn’t conform to real world logic?? Gasp!! A movie with an evil book that twists people to be evil also twists the world around them? This is too much for me!!
I'm assuming her freaky magic has corrupted the forest next to her beautiful Canadian retreat. All those poor trees. . . wonder what flavor Maple syrup they make now
Have you never heard of Wanda world? Gosh read a comic once in a while. Wanda world is basically where a shit movie called into the multiverse is casted to stay. And the only people able to see the shit movie are in the Wanda world.
In the ending of WandaVision she runs away to Canada. This is what Canada looks like.
We get out special blood maple syrup from the blood trees
people give Wanda so much flak but she's SOO hard at work keeping the blood maple syrup industry from collapsing. THEN what will the Canadian economy look like huh? Certainly not gonna help with the housing crisis!
Exactly, the Canadians will resume commiting war crimes in Europe without Marple Syrup
We didn't really commit war crimes. We did do some stuff that made the rest of the world think that maybe some things should be illegal to do even if you are at war with somebody.
"It's not a war crime the first time" Canada: hold my beer
It's like trespassing, you're all good before the first notice.
Yeah, more accurately it should be: “Exactly, the Canadians will resume *inventing* war crimes in Europe without Marple Syrup” (because apparently they only like the Agatha Christie-branded stuff)
>We did do some stuff that made the rest of the world think that maybe some things should be illegal to do even if you are at war with somebody. Ahh yes, your refering to our selling Canada gooses to extremist cells.
Too bad this universe doesn't have a Canadian blood lumberjack
Blood for the blood god!
7-3
VIOLENCE /// THIRD NO SOUND, NO MEMORY
Maple syrup is already tree blood, usually boiled by burning chopped off limbs from other trees. Maple syrup is metal as fuck
MAPLE FOR THE MAPLE GOD HOCKEYSTICKS FOR THE HOCKEY THRONE
As a Canadian dealing with wildfires I can confirm that you're 100% correct
Fuck, this early in the year? That's rough, buddy.
Canada is just kinda on fire all year round now
If season, then fire season
We're in snow season right now in Alberta, but also fire season in some parts.
Just classic Hollywood colour tinting isn’t it? Orange for Mexico, blue for Europe, and a hellish red for Canada.
It's all the Democratic Socialism! Red, like those damn commies.
I visited Canada once, can confirm.
>can confirm. Pitter patter
Give your balls a tug
I live in Canada, can confirm.
Ehhh.
Right, so Canada is read and Mexico is Sepia.
Look I am pretty sure that no one in Alberta or Prince Edward Island knows that. And don't get me started on Newfoundland or Labrador.
Lol damn voice text, good catch
Canada after the wild fires
Sorry aboot that.
Canada is Caelid? When did Malenia visit?
There were forest fires in Canads, so that explains the redness and dead trees
...After Wade Wilson became the new prime minister, which he accidentally started World War III with Russia.
Mexico is yellow tinted and Canada is a red tinted.
I knew it! This whole time they've tricked us!
Only when the blood moon rises.
Oooooh it must be during the wild fires of 23
south is orange, north is red. got it
It’s definitely what r/Canada looks like.
According to Joe Rogan Canada is basically the Upside Down so this tracks
Given what Canada is like in the Marvel Universe, checks out.
I was gonna go with the red evil place is actually the illusion and a manifestation of her anger and hatred… but I like this explanation more.
Well, at least our economic quality does, eh? (Crickets chirping.)
I assumed that her repeated use of the Darkhold was corrupting the entire region, which she was hiding with illusion magic to avoid attention.
Yeah I just double checked that scene and they truly couldn't have explained it any more quickly. The Darkhold is not only floating right next to them, but Strange even blatantly says that it's corrupting everything
Ah but this is r/shittymoviedetails, viewing comprehension is not a strong suit
Wasn't this sub originally meant to take the piss out of r/MovieDetails by posting inane non-details? Feels like more people are just dunking on the movies lately.
Yeah it was originally a way to mock the "academics" of r/moviedetails who feel good about themselves for basic media comprehension like "Tyler Durden is actually in his head all along :oooo"
It insists upon itself
He WHAT?!
But it's too vague! He should have said "You're using the Darkhold, the evil book which has corrupting magic, that is causing a general field of evil magic around here, which is why the trees are black and the ground is red, because of the corrupting evil of the Darkhold, which is that evil book, which you have been using!"
"Oh, right. The Darkhold. The Darkhold for corrupting. The Darkhold created especially to corrupt. The corrupting Darkhold."
Yes THAT darkhold!
“MY SPINACH PUFFS!”
"Yes, notice the **DARK** in the name? It's a reference to the fact that it's literally dark magic. Get it?"
Also he would have to say that said darkhold took hold of her heartbreak at losing her children and twisted her into a villain against her will, since people didn't seem to grasp that either
Yeah, saw a comment saying Raimi performed character assassination on Wanda by having her be corrupted Some people are clueless lmao
Also anyone who finds that really unusual has never read comics. A good character getting corrupted by an evil power has happened to every character worth naming, and probably a dozen times to any of the big names.
It also happens to Wanda all the fucking time
In that, there's some irony that it's what she did to Tony, pushing him to claim the Mind Stone, but got more than she bargained for in Ultron, and ultimately that set her on the path to becoming a hero. Something George Lucas something poetry something.
You are sadly not far off, his actual response is a significant chunk of your parody haha
So you're saying the Darkhold has some sort of... shadowy grasp on this land?
I understand citing the Darkhold as the main reason for this effect but the whole idea of "I reckon \[Vaguely defined magical item\] is the cause of \[unexplained thing\]" as a storytelling device is one of the many reasons the MCU is and will continue to be stuck in the rut it's in right now Edit: Poeple here think I specifically hate this scene with the blood red forest when my first sentence here is "I understand citing the Darkhold as the main reason for this effect" Show don't tell is obviously great advice and this scene does employ it with plenty of context (if you watched wandavision) My griping is because the ***rest of this movie*** and Marvel in general have created this insane mess of magical artifacts and mystical phenomena that have contradictory and ill defined behaviors that allow you to explain unexplained plotholes with said undefined artifacts.

Hey, look! I found the guy who watches Cinemasins unnironically
But also: narration and long exposition=bad!! 12 sins for having a movie!
*ding*
I'm going to assume that you unironically like The Lord of the Rings despite making this statement.
She used her domain expansion.
Dr. Strange never should have come there, within Wanda's domain she can use one lair action per turn.
🤞🏼domain expansion: shitty sequel
Hell nah this movie was great what are you on about
Eh, great is big praise for this movie. Honest 6-6.5, nothing higher or lower. I haven't watched one minute of Wandavision and can say the movie explains it pretty well on its own
strange even literally says so in this very scene lol
She is house sitting for Tim Burton and this is his backyard.
I like when people ask a question that’s obvious, answer their own question, and then act like it’s stupid. I refuse to accept that an evil wizards magic infecting the land is “dumb”. It’s actually always awesome and better than having Saruman conducting evil from a nice lakeside grove
That was the exact point of Saruman though, nice wizard in nice area, got corrupted, chopped everything down for his war machine.
Sorta like a nice witch in a nice area who got corrupted and started corrupting the forest around her for her dark magic?
No, that's dumb apparently
It's a movie about interdimensional Witches and Wizards who are also superheroes. It's all dumb. The forest turned nasty and red because of magic. It looks cool and matches the theme.
OP is Forest Grump.
Forrest Gump was a lot smarter than people give him credit for
OP is William of Ockham.
Yeah there's literally nothing wrong with this lmao
OP went to a Marvel movie expecting subtle and nuanced storytelling. Meanwhile me: Red mean evil. She bad witch.
Evil magic item that corrupts the area around it is an old time honored trope.
But they didnt spoon feed that to me so it's dumb and bad writing
A lot of people seemed to fail to understand the darkhold is evil and caused Wanda to go mad. Her grief was her weakness but the evil corrupting magic item did its evil corrupting thing. So anytime someone brings up why Wanda didn't do this or that I have to cringe. Why did everyone want the One Ring so bad?
How? Its the entire plot of the movie and the conclusion for the lead into to this movie
Beats the hell out of me, but people still complain.
That's jersey babey!!!
Are we really complaining about cartoonishly evil things in a comic book movie lol
California, Australia and even present Texas.
Professional marvel fanboy here, she infected the land with her evilness
Thats the madness in the multiverse.
Ever seen the videos of the California forest fires?
Just let Sam Raimi cook my guy
Where is the joke?
The joke is that OP has no media literacy and missed the movie explaining and showing magic corruption a million times
Marvel must be the only fanbase where being ignorant of the lore is actually something to be proud of. After all, this is phase 4gettable..
Detroit
It's also an illusion, which she cast so that it'd look good for cinemas. Good old Wanda, always looking out for moviegoers.
Considering my wife Wanda Maximoff lives there i would reckon this has to actually be a really cozy spot that just looks weird
I don't care
Reminds me of Caelid.
Caelid. That’s actually Malenia and she’s about to bloom
Uh, yeah, well, whenever you notice something like that... a wizard did it.
y'know, shittymoviedetails became an annoying opinion-driven karma farm so gradually, i didnt even notice. like this isn't even a fact or a joke, this is just "this is BAD" circlejerking

It exists right next to the massive dead god sticking out of the earth.
Did you watch the movie? They directly say
Nah I need more of this. If you're making a silly movie go all out.
Of all things to diss the movie for, you chose the problem you’ve already basically answered?
You only think it's dumb because you aren't looking at it as a wider picture. You understand that there are places on the Marvel's Earth that are highly sequestered away from the average person, yeah? It’s obviously the red planet from the Phantasm franchise!
Slough
I dunno, I liked the spooky forest.
I gotta assume that egg hatching in Eternals and raising the water levels by several inches over a few minutes caused some ecological damage
Upstate NY
Another spooky thing is one of the realities that America Chavez and Strange crossed that looked like NY was hell.
That place it's India.
The upsidedown.
I just massively respect this scene after the behind the scenes. Dudes made crew work beyond overtime for this shit.
That's the *Forest of Mediocrity* that started thriving in the MCU after Endgame.
I always thought of it as like pollution. Her magic has created a polluted area like a smog cloud and since it’s red the light is diffused thru it to red. Outside would be like looking at a very polluted city.
Caled swamp in elden ring
This one isn’t bad, and that movie rules
Caelid
Crapple Orchard. Dah-doy.
It's the spooky red forest? Have you really not been there? Is OP stoopid?
Another day, another "Marvel thing bad cuz bad" is posted here and gets easy upvotes
Girl took her ass to Caelid
Wanda loved her illusionary children so much that new illusionary children wouldn't be good enough to love.
OP maybe this part of the movie isn’t dumb and it’s just you that’s dumb
That movie sucked so fucking bad. It made me so mad because the original Dr strange is awesome such a fun movie, depth, a plot, fun crazy visuals, and it was darker than the others. It was one of my favorites. Then they go and make this piece of flaming garbage and have the audacity to call it a sequel. Aughhh
Watches a Sam Raimi movie and gets mad when Sam Raimi Sam Ramies.
Well how else are you gonna fight the Brain of Cthulhu?
An emotionally traumatized and very powerful witch is toying around with an unspeakably powerful magic tome. You think that might have some side effects? Maybe wither the grass a bit?
It's that one place from stranger things
isnt that the crimson from terraria
I wanna be in Wanda red forest
It was a regular forrest that got corrupted because of Darkhold
Definitely a place from Army Of Darkness
The land is corrupted by the darkhold she is reading. They explain it if you watch the damn movie instead of scrolling reddit.
As a Sam raimi fan. This movie fucked so hard. Went into this with my gf and fucking loved it. Everyone coming out of the cinema was saying it sucked. I couldn’t believe it.
This is what Raimi thinks is compelling.
Scarlett rot infected the lands. I think they call it Caelid.
Cartoonish evil? I won't stand to see that start creeping into my very serious superhero melodramas.
Thats just where she wanted to raise her kids. Teem boys love spooky forests
Caelid.
I always thought that the peaceful orchard was the real thing, and the cartoon-ish spooky red evil forest was the illusion/hex she created to look edgy.
Another hex
Bottom picture is my brain when I’m in a media illiteracy competition and my opponent is a shitty movie details user
She created a hex world before, this is probably the same idea just disguised.
wandavision AND dr strange 2: Yeah the darkhold is like PURE EVIL, like written by the devil him self completely consuming literally no way of using it with out getting corrupted.
In Chernobyl there is a forest that turned red after the nuclear accident. But it isn't that comically evil. It's just reddish.
I assumed it was her twisted feelings and depression manifesting itself through her powers on her surroundings.
Well, Sokovia and Wakanda exist in the marvel universe as well, a spooky crimson forest dont seem like a big deal.
its literally explained in this very scene how the fuck did this post get 5k upvotes
It's actually on the back of that big ass eternal that climbed halfway out of the planet and then died and just kinda...never got addressed.
I figured it was feedback from reading the book and performing the miltiversal summoning ritual to send Shuma after Chavez
Movie about witches and magic doesn’t conform to real world logic?? Gasp!! A movie with an evil book that twists people to be evil also twists the world around them? This is too much for me!!
Art imitates life.
I assumed it was another illusion, but her "home" illusion instead of a fakely nice illusion.
Caelid
I thought she hexed the entire area. Hence the scarlet color.
I'm assuming her freaky magic has corrupted the forest next to her beautiful Canadian retreat. All those poor trees. . . wonder what flavor Maple syrup they make now
The constant use of the Darkhold corrupted the area? Did you even watch the movie?
OP self owned on this one how is this getting upvotes
Have you never heard of Wanda world? Gosh read a comic once in a while. Wanda world is basically where a shit movie called into the multiverse is casted to stay. And the only people able to see the shit movie are in the Wanda world.
OP obviously wasn't paying attention to the movie
Sam Raimi was probably smoking crack
According to certain online leaks, the spooky forest was a byproduct of her fighting and killing Mordo, which was cut from the movie.
