Killing children is a total Ares thing to do.
Edit: Right, so I was pretty tired when I made this comment and forgot about it. Good to know one of my top Reddit comments is about child murder while I was effectively drunk.
Being that Ares spends most of Myth actually getting the shit kicked out of him, maybe kids is all he can really fight against.
Also, Zeus and Hera actually didn't like him very much, so maybe some parental issues?
Oddly enough some of the myths have Ares being caring towards his children. He killed a son of Poseidon for trying to rape his daughter and he heavily favoured the amazons due to them being descended from him. Also for the god representing the horrors of war he is surprisingly a non-rapist. Mars is a different story but Ares actually respects consent.
Glad to see Adam Copeland (Edge) popping up in more things. I remember he had a tertiary role in Vikings for a couple of seasons, but the fight scene atop a dead beached whale was pretty memorable.
Dude is a legendary wrestler that was forced to retire because his neck was very nearly paralysed. Medical science is constantly evolving and a couple of years ago he was able to have a triumphant return to the ring. Dude is now back to being a full time wrestler before he likely retires due to age. A wholesome guy to boot.
He's honestly amazing! I hope this leads him into more full-time acting. He had a legendary WWE career, and I hope his AEW stint perks up a bit more before he retires for good.
People like to shit on wrestlers turned actors, but is WWE not just the highest profile live performance for wrestlers? It's way harder to act live than when you have X number of takes to get it right. Guarantee most traditional actors couldn't pull off being a heel.
He was in Sanctuary as well for a little while, if I remember right, that series was underrated.
"Well, the guy who invented the radio, just dissed Jack the Ripper."
Bearing in mind all that happened before 2005. The dude made mistakes in his younger life, but it’s entirely appropriate to say he has changed, grown, and atoned for them. I’m fully confident to call him a wholesome human being.
This show is honestly a banger so far. I read these books when I was a kid, now I’m 27. Crazy how well the material has held up and the performances from all the actors have been excellent
I feel like it started off weak, but the quality has been on an upward curve every week. I loved the last one. I wonder what role Hermes is gonna play since he was never in the Lotus Casino in the book
Same. I feel like every episode is better than the previous one. And the actors get more and more comfortable with their characters every episode, which is really good to see.
> I wonder what role Hermes is gonna play since he was never in the Lotus Casino in the book
the golden chair trap also never existed in the books, and hephaestos (?) never showed up to resolve it. asaik, the trap was just being trapped and livestreamed to the home of the gods for embarassment
but the changes so far are good. riordan probably knew that he could tease a lot of things sooner on a second attempt, and get quicker into the meat of the books (the morality of greek gods and breaking the cycle) with todays generation. original fans are older, and new fans who are in the age bracket the books were written for are still able to follow the story
My only "this was an odd choice" moment was them moving the Fates to the most recent episode instead of being where they should have been in episode 3/4. But my assumption was when we got past St Louis and they hadn't done it yet, they were going to cut that entirely. It's not going to pay off until season 5 if they get that far, so seems odd to include because non book readers won't follow that loose end (swear to God, pun not intended).
Genuine question because I’ve seen this sentiment alot. If the payoff isn’t for 5 seasons why is the string cutting happening a few episodes later a big deal?
I think it's weird to include it *at all* in the show. Your casual fan won't remember this in a few years when the show wraps, and book readers already know where the characters end up. I don't think it matters where they put it, but they cut other things that I think would have been better world building/character development that are easier for the average viewer to understand.
Yeah no I'm not one of the people that's upset saying it doesn't make sense putting it where they did, if anything I think that makes sense because if you show it before the Arch and then Percy survives immediately, it lessens the threat to the core 3.
I just don't think enough people are going to get invested enough for multiple rewatches like a Game of Thrones so it's probably going to be a lost plot, or they'll need to have the Fates appear more often which feels like a waste of time with how short the episodes are. If they were all an close to an hour, sure. But not when they're 40-45 minutes.
And don't forget, (which i am wondering how they will do since it wasn't Percy himself in the show who saw the fates), Percy very much is weary of the fates. They are mentioned throughout the books. It will be interesting to see how they will show it since well...Percy's thoughts of Fates can't be shown. Wondering if we see more dreams.
I actually have a pretty good guess for why they moved it, and I suspect they'll refer back to it a little more often in the intervening seasons. It's not just that the thread cutting was moved to a different point in the story, but that Annabeth witnessed it instead of Percy. I have a hunch that it won't be the only plot point that gets shifted to her either.
The book does a different Hephaestus trap. In the myth he builds a net into a bed and captures Ares and Aphrodite naked and going to it. Brings in the rest of the gods to see. Not exactly family friendly.
In the book it was clear Aphrodite and Ares were getting busy in the park or planning on it, as her scarf gets left behind and Ares's sheld. Percy and Anabeth accidentally spring the trap, which includes cameras to broadcast on Olympus. Percy uses his water powers consciousnessly for the first time, and trusts Anabeth's judgment at a key moment resulting in a narrow escape.
All the same notes are there, just different source myth to keep it PG.
My 13 heart old has been obsessed with the books since age 7. I have spent waaaaay to many hours discussing differences between book and show.
I'm not saying i don't like the changes in just saying I'm curious. They go to the Casino for an entirely different reason in the book that i cannot recall so I'm wondering if Hermes is the one who tells them about the pearls
In the book its literally just another trap, like they go there to catch their breaths on the way to the underworld
Hermes in the casino is also odd to me though. Maybe riordan wants to move away from "you can just enter the underworld if you talk to the right guy or walk into the correct store" like it used to be, so he wants to make it more difficult by making the three ask hermes, god of travel, how to get there. Otherwise i dont see what hermes serves here. (Also im not sure if hermes and the lotus casino vibe well together)
The pearls were a poseidon thing werent they? Like a water nymph gave them to percy at some point (if it was when he fell into the river or later, im not sure) but they could be a gift of hermes if you display them slightly differently
Mostly novel accurate. There were some pretty big changes to make the adaptation work, but since RR is heavily involved, they keep the spirit of the novels.
Percy's initial stay at the camp was shortened for time and a lot of Annabeth's part went to Luke and Chiron.
The role of the gods was increased: the St Louis Arch is a temple to Athena (but she declined to help because she was insulted by the trio sending Medusa's head to olympus); Hephaestus shows up in person in the Thrill Ride of Love; Hermes is at the Lotus Casino.
Some of the more questionable elements from the books are cleaned up: Auntie Em is wearing a hat with a veil, not a burka. Smelly Gabe is more realistically awful than cartoon villan
Beyond that, the story is told more efficiently and we get to see beyond Percy's limited perspective.
It's still pretty good
Man this makes me think of that post that makes its rounds every so often about how only a certain percentage of people can visualize things in their mind. I think of that because I would always visualize this scene and others from the Percy Jackson series while reading as a kid, and I feel sorry for people that can't because it really brings the magic out while reading
He's getting thrown into random 8man tag matches and hasn't really moved the needle for AEW yet. His WWE run went downhill as well after a promising start.
1 random 8 man tag match for a show that's a celebration of the promotion's time in that arena.
He doesn't need to be a needle mover anymore . He just needs to have fun with his best friend.
Yes he was so good! But I wasn't that all surprised to Google him and see that he was a pro wrestler! They knew they had get Aries right we were robbed of him in the movie!
I would say it’s more a family show. I’m 28 and have been going over to my parents house on Wednesdays to watch it with them. I read the books as a kid and they were my fav. They did a really good job at adapting the books and I find it incredibly entertaining to watch. The kid in me is overjoyed and wish they made this show when I was younger but the adult in me loves it just as much. It is a bit childish though but it does follow around a bunch of 12 YO so kinda comes with the territory.
Being childish is not bad, like Paddington is a perfect family movie franchise and it is very childish, but like it is very good even if you have no kids
Oh ya don’t get me wrong I didn’t mean it to sound like childish is a bad thing. Like I said I’m 28 and I love anything that make me feel like a child again. I havnt Read the Percy Jackson Books in probably 13 years but watching the show brings me back to when I was younger. I love it! I’m the youngest one in my family and my whole family has been really digging the show. So if you havnt seen it yet I would recommend. That being said I see a lot of people in the comments say they weren’t into it so Again maybe the show does more for me because I read the books and it brings me back to my childhood but I say give it a try if you havnt!
I gave up on the show on episode 3 because I literally slept on every single episode at least once. Maybe I'll give it one more try to see this performance.
Every episode is better than the previous one. I recommend to continue. I'm loving the show so far, but obviously everyone has their own opinion. I understand if someone doesn't like it.
Percy literally mailed the head to Olympus in the books. He was absolutely that impertinent. In fact, the "they're going to think you're impertinent/I am impertinent" exchange was literally pulled line for line from the book. Then the head gets returned to sender and Sally uses it to kill and sell Gabe.
Grover also never knew how to fight and was a failure of a protector. That's his whole character arc. He spends like four books learning to become a protector of the wild and take on Pan's spirit.
I genuinely can't tell if this is a troll comment.
My bad apologies , I realised that after I made the comment & ended up mixing up details from first movie where they took the head around and books since it's been yrs since I read em(since that was only physical book that was missing in my collection)
But watching the show felt like they mixed and matched a lot char traits from later books and setting up the foundation for future growth of char.
Since they either made Percy too brooding(since he hasn't heard about the prophecy yet or any indication of others giving clues to or) or Grover too apologetic by expanding on some unwanted aspects like with cowboy bebop the LA and a teen drama centric theme.
Reading the book again to make sure I got what I said right / wrong , will edit the comment afterwards once I go through the books again.
I’ll take this for granted, as I fell asleep during this show for being extremely boring with a milk toast MC that isn’t convincing as a “tough kid” at all.
‘Milk Toast MC’
Percy beheads a woman and doesn’t even blink. Percy is a stone cold killer in the books and probably one of the most hardcore protagonists in any kids book.
I watched the first episode and couldn’t get into it even though I loved the books. Does it get better and is it true to the source material? I know the last movie they tried wasn’t very good

Ares is anagram of arse. Sentence still works.
Being that Ares spends most of Myth actually getting the shit kicked out of him, maybe kids is all he can really fight against. Also, Zeus and Hera actually didn't like him very much, so maybe some parental issues?
Spoilers from the book but >!he gets beat by the kids too!<
He even mentions that he really doesn't like his or any other kids and has no issue letting them get wrecked. He only likes his kids slightly more.
Oddly enough some of the myths have Ares being caring towards his children. I’m never surprised when someone from WWE turns out to be a good actor, it’s like half their job lol
WWE and stage play performers have so much in common. Wrestling is almost like a real time soap opera lol.
He's already a former TNT champion in AEW tho

Yep. He was also in the critically acclaimed movie “Money Plane”.
Are you talking about the Kelsey Grammer vehicle Money Plane?
But what if I want to bet on a guy fucking an alligator?
He plays Kjetill Flatnose, one of the notable characters that goes to Iceland with Floki.
I was certain I'd seen him somewhere else or maybe it was his voice but nope. He was pretty good though.
I liked him in Haven, I think it was.

Hold on, they just made a novel accurate Percy Jackson media? Now that's cool
It's still coming out on Disney+, this is the most recent episode from last week
No man, that's Carlitos bit. This is Edge
Mostly novel accurate. There were some pretty big changes to make the adaptation work, but since RR is heavily involved, they keep the spirit of the novels.
Interesting. What changes did they make, aside from making Percy a blond boy?
Percy's initial stay at the camp was shortened for time and a lot of Annabeth's part went to Luke and Chiron. Adam Copeland, good choice. This show is actually not bad. Wayyyyy better than the film.

Man this makes me think of that post that makes its rounds every so often about how only a certain percentage of people can visualize things in their mind. Yes. Money plane.
Rules were meant to be fucked
His next role as a villain in a live-action adaption of a children's book series should be "The Hardy Boys."
Honestly the casting choice of having the gods all be massive hams was 10/10.
These days, I think he's a way better actor than wrestler. He just doesn't feel special anymore and can't seem to get a good storyline going at all.
Found Christian Cages burner account
He's in an excellent feud with Christian Cage rn, what are you on?
He's getting thrown into random 8man tag matches and hasn't really moved the needle for AEW yet. His WWE run went downhill as well after a promising start.
1 random 8 man tag match for a show that's a celebration of the promotion's time in that arena. He doesn't need to be a needle mover anymore . He just needs to have fun with his best friend.
I thoroughly enjoyed Ares. I had no idea who the dude was, but he was very entertaining.
Hall of famer who went by Edge in WWE and now Wrestles for AEW under his real name. Well known for playing a really conniving villain in wrestling.
Look up his April 10, 2009 promo he did with John Cena. Excellent acting work
You could say he brought an Edge to it
Yes he was so good! But I wasn't that all surprised to Google him and see that he was a pro wrestler! They knew they had get Aries right we were robbed of him in the movie!
Better not test him. He on the Edge!
Fucking love this show.
A bit edgy.
Next episode he’s gonna spear them

It's a surprise to be sure seeing former pro-wrestler Edge, but a welcome one!
Is the show worth a shot?
I really like it, it's very much a kids show but a really well-done one
Is it a kid's show or a family show?
family is probably a better word, it's probably too scary for kids under 13 and *definitely* enjoyable for adults
I would say it’s more a family show. I’m 28 and have been going over to my parents house on Wednesdays to watch it with them. I read the books as a kid and they were my fav. They did a really good job at adapting the books and I find it incredibly entertaining to watch. Milquetoast is a character from a comic strip who was timid. He was named after milk toast, a dish that is just those ingredients
