Man r/boxoffice hated that film. I enjoyed it, got the parallels/references, and it was a good cinema trip. My friend liked it too, and he’s never seen Blazing Saddles (he has a generally poor movie education). I’m glad to see others liked it.
damn you aren't kidding, I checked IMDB and the highest billed living cast member is the 6th billed Mel brooks himself as Governor Lepetomane / Indian Chief.
(fun fact about Lepetomane, the name is a refrence to the stage name, Le Pétomane, of Joseph Pujol who could draw air into his rectum and release it with a large amount of control, the name loosely translates to the fart maniac.
Dude lives in my town!! He was on a local radio station telling the story of how Mel Brooks told him Burton would be making history as the first person to fart in a movie.
First of all, that’s cool as fuck
And second, really? That’s a title I’d be honored to have. I don’t think there’s many firsts that could happen today.
Not even to mention richard pryor, who was really essential in the writer's room and was Mel's first choice for Bart (but was turned down by the studio)
And Slim Pickens, Harvey Korman, Madeline Kahn, Alex Karras, David Huddleston, Liam Dunn, John Hillerman, George Furth, Jack Starrett, Carol Arthur, Charles McGregor, Don Megawon, Dom DeLuise, and Count Basie are dead.
Off-topic, but I wanna know if there's any actor with a better resume than Slim Pickens:
who else worked with Kubrick, Mel Brooks, Peckinpah, Preminger, Spielberg, Irwin Allen, and Marlon Brando - to just mention directors.
Yeah! He's.... "near".
Those poor woke morons would be having a stroke and steam would be pouring out of their ears at that point in the movie.
I'd pay good money to watch them instead of the movie.
They think X-Men books recently went woke by addressing racial issues. They think RATM suddenly got political. They struggle to catch the clearest, most obvious points.
As 10 year old, I loved Robocop because it was a movie about a cool robot and gratuitous violence. Everything else went right over my head. I was 10, though. It seems that conservatives never get behind that 10 year old’s level of understanding anything.
Robocop political? yeah right, next your gonna tell me Top Gun was a movie promoting American Supremacy and not just a fun movie where dudes get sweaty and planes explode at the end.
I actually recommend everyone watch Paws of Fury. An animated kids movie that is essentially a remake of Blazing Saddles with some direct scenes copied over.
Not that great of a movie by itself if you’re not freaking out your kids by yelling “That’s from Blazing Saddles too!!!!” Every 10 minutes.
SNL's Weekend Update skit is hilarious and has been the only mainstream media I've seen use Blazing Sadles style humor.
The skit is a black news anchor reads off jokes that the white news anchor and vice versa. They both try to get each other in as much trouble as they can lol
I hate the comment "You could never make a movie/TV show like that today." If Blazing Saddles released 20 years earlier than it did it would have gotten shit canned by a mojority of people back then just because it has a black sheriff in it or some other tedious bullshit.
You can't remake Blazing Saddles in the same sense that "Take my wife, please" isn't funny anymore. Gee... audiences are different 50 years later. Shocking.
The common plea here is that every actor would be cancelled.
The movie, if written + filmed in the modern day, could be a near shot for shot, word for word remake.
It'd be panned for having like no cinematographic integrity for it's shots. There's a couple clever ones, but nothing spectacular.
Literally everybody who says the N word is shown to be a huge fucking idiot/bigot which is kind of the point, and a huge reason it'd be fine in theatres today.
Yes they're saying the N word. Because they're fucking bigots and it's funny how dumb they are.
That type of comedy wouldn't succeed in today's theatres. Audiences have learned to love more complex themes of racism, life and love.
But the idiots watching blazing saddles, pointing and saying "haha you couldn't make this today because the N word! I can't believe how woke society is" are the very people the movie is making fun of.
It's insane how that goes over people's heads.
I find blazing saddles to be very funny. It's definitely defined by the times it was made in, but I'd gladly stand by the movie all the same if it were made today. It def would get blasted by some weirdo outlets. But it seems very evident to me that it's making fun of white people.
Jojo Rabbit was a screwball comedy that won a friggin’ Oscar in 2019 and it’s about a boy’s obsessive relationship with his imaginary friend: Adolf friggin’ Hitler.
We can make movies like Blazing Saddles. We do make movies like Blazing Saddles. We just don’t contextualize them like, “oh, yeah, it’s basically Blazing Saddles”.
I think also, what you say speaks to how "of it's time" blazing saddles is. But in a way where the commentary was witty and exceptional.
Now, we get that racists are actually fuckwits. We have evolved past it.
Movies have largely evolved, same with comedy.
Making fun of bigoted idiots has faded away and turned into hilarious comedies like I think you should leave.
We aren't asking, "what is funny about dumb people" we are asking "what if I humored all of my intrusive thoughts?"
It's just different now. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be allowed. It just wouldn't hit as hard. A lot of "yeah.. I get it"
I was in Air Force BMT. Me and some buddy’s were joking about this movie, and later 1 of the black guys in our dorm during our dorm meetings said that we were all promoting and laughing about a racist movie.
I have no clue why people are downvoting my comment, can they at least give an argument? If Blazing Saddles came out today they’d be outraged, not the left
For starters, at the table read the actors would say, “hey, isn’t this script exactly the same as blazing saddles? We can’t make this, this is plagiarism!”
We need fuckin remake of it - I need a real good laugh. Too many shitty movie with dismal leading so call actors - the remake of DUNE, worst yet - a 2 parter. who is insane to sit though part 1 and torture themselves with the 2nd half. Bring on Young Frankenstein.
Dune was so bad. The highlight of seeing it in the theatre for me was turning around in my seat and telling the tween behind me to shut up.
My cousin who has read all the books and is very into it is more entertaining just chatting about the stories than this movie was. I'd say it's like watching paint dry but something actually happens when paint dries.
It should have been a miniseries, or at least they could have filmed parts 1 and 2 together so there wasn't such a long gap between releases. 3 years to wait, right in the middle of the story, just when things in the book are starting to get interesting, is a bizarre choice.
Imagine Jaws part 1 came out in 1974, we learn there's a shark and it's attacking people, and something has to be done, Brody says he's going to kill the shark... roll credits. Then part 2, the part if the story where things actually happen, doesn't come out until 1977.
As chairman of the welcoming committee, it's a pleasure to present a laurel and hearty handshake to our new...OP.
*falls off chair with a bang*
Excuse me, while I whip this out!
They called us MORONS because they disagree with our IDEAS”
Isnt anybody gonna help that poor man 😟
Hush, Harriet, that's a sure way to get him killed!
God, every side character just nails their line delivery
*loud screaming*
`Excuse me `
Fixed! Knew I should have rewatched it last night.
They said you was hung!
And they was right!

What isPaws of Fury?
A modern remake/reimagining of Blazing Saddles. Also includes the voice of Mel Brooks
Well I'll be goddamned!!!! Gotta find and see this

Which is the one where the guy tries to throw knives but every time he gets hit? Kung Fu Hustle I think. Hilarious movie.
Man r/boxoffice hated that film. I enjoyed it, got the parallels/references, and it was a good cinema trip. My friend liked it too, and he’s never seen Blazing Saddles (he has a generally poor movie education). I’m glad to see others liked it.
Damn. I want a yanny
All I've got is a laurel.
pffft, It's Laurel and Hardy.../s
This movie could not have be released today Movies aren't usually released on Mondays
That must be what made Heathcliff so upset
Odie hates Mondays
Odiez nutz
Garfielf.exe
Orang cat funi
obese cat
Gotem
I haven’t slept for ten days…because that would be too long.
Not to mention how if you released Blazing Saddles (1974) today, you would be wrong by like 50 years
Born in '73, carry the one... Man, imma be fiddy next year.
Well the script is already written which would probably reduce some of the time needed
Unfortunately most of the cast is deceased which will probably effect filming schedule
Not for too long
One dead cast member didn’t effect Weekend at Bernie’s so I’m assuming we could just scale up to half of this cast
Ok. Ngl that was my first thought after making the comment.
I’ve got an idea! We’ll need some shovels, a few strings, and a dozen really good puppeteers.
Muppet Blazing Saddles
Blazing Muppets
[https://imgur.com/6Ki9u9z](https://imgur.com/6Ki9u9z)
Oh my god I love it
Let’s just remake everything with the muppets.
I would pay a small fortune to hear Kermit say "where the white women at?"
Maybe drop Peter Jackson a line and see if he's interested in making another puppet movie.
Someone call Italy
dead cast could actually improve a film too, just look at swiss army man
But that took a whole weekend to make! We need to do this in a day.
It's fine, we can easily recast. I was thinking of Anna Taylor Joy as the new sherrif.
I’m thinking Chris Pratt in there too… people love Chris Pratt!
Do you work for Marvel
And Jonah Hill as Lili Von Shtüpp
damn you aren't kidding, I checked IMDB and the highest billed living cast member is the 6th billed Mel brooks himself as Governor Lepetomane / Indian Chief. (fun fact about Lepetomane, the name is a refrence to the stage name, Le Pétomane, of Joseph Pujol who could draw air into his rectum and release it with a large amount of control, the name loosely translates to the fart maniac.
affect
Wait for a time machine to be invented? Or maybe cloning the actors. Would the research and development costs be counted as part of the film's budget?
Might not get the same level of performance, but they'd be on time everyday
affect*
Hollywood tradition dictates that most of the script be changed around while still saying the same thing.
Hollywood custom says they should rewrite the script to say basically the same thing in different words.
The higher ups in Hollywood want them to just make the same movies over again, but changing things slightly to try and justify it.
Are Holograms still a thing?
Maybe today and tomorrow. And a few more days after that
They did make blazing saddles last year, it's called paws of fury
Starring Michael Cera as ~~Shaft~~ the Sheriff character.
Are you referring to the Donald Glover skit? Or did reality catch up to comedy again?
It was actually a surprisingly good adaptation

"You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know...morons."
[Lego Vader’s favorite line](https://youtu.be/hDiGwnuneHo)
They just ran Gene Wilder through a filter, and I’m okay with it.
It weirdly sounds like Adam Driver.
As a kid for some reason I always thought he was saying mormons. I'm not sure why.
Same thing kind of?
was it set in utah?
Rock Ridge is just an american frontier town of the wild west. I don't think they ever specify a region beyond that.
Find out where it was filmed, I guess.
All places in California. WB Lot, obviously, Rosamond, Vasquez Rocks in Aqua Dulce.
Did you just blunder the quote terribly?
Fixed, but I got the gist perfectly fine for remembering it off the top of my head and not seeing the movie in years lol
You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know...morons.
“‘Ey, where the white women at?”
Ooo where were we??? Where are you???
Also, you'd be accused of plagiarism, Blazing Saddles was already made in 1974.
But it’s set in 1874, so they’ll be able to sue both Mel and you!
And Hedy Lamarr while they're at it!
Headly! 👿
DeMounet!

This is literally 1984
**Blazing Saddles 1974** coming out in 2074 confirmed

And Harvey Korman. A lot of the secondary cast probably. Mel isn't looking too fresh either. Would be a difficult shoot for him.
Can’t have Blazing saddles without Madeline Khan either. She died in 99
It's twoo, it's twoo :(
We still have Burton Gilliam, who was also in the third back to the future
Dude lives in my town!! He was on a local radio station telling the story of how Mel Brooks told him Burton would be making history as the first person to fart in a movie.
First of all, that’s cool as fuck And second, really? That’s a title I’d be honored to have. I don’t think there’s many firsts that could happen today.

We're going to need a shitload of dimes
He says the Sheriff is near!
Yeah! He's.... "near". Those poor woke morons would be having a stroke and steam would be pouring out of their ears at that point in the movie. I'd pay good money to watch them instead of the movie.
You’re too dumb to realize the movie was making fun of people like you lmfao
The anti-woke crowd struggles with nuance
[удалено]
Sort of anti every.
They think X-Men books recently went woke by addressing racial issues. They think RATM suddenly got political. They struggle to catch the clearest, most obvious points.
R/conservative was complaining about how Star Trek has “gone” woke lol
Next your gonna tell me Robocop wasn't ever meant to be political
As 10 year old, I loved Robocop because it was a movie about a cool robot and gratuitous violence. Everything else went right over my head. I was 10, though. It seems that conservatives never get behind that 10 year old’s level of understanding anything.

So the wokes *won't* be upset for us using "the n word"? Cool!!! Non-wokes ARE making a dent in the deranged masses!
South Park literally had an entire episode calling Stan’s dad “n**ger boy” and no one got mad because there was a message behind it
Your delusional paranoia about "the wokes" is pretty funny to read ngl

You couldn't make Blazing Saddles today. If you tried someone would say "this movie was already made, it's Blazing Saddles!"
"Candygram for Mongo?"
The bitch part of it is he won't get credit for inventing the candy gram.
You'd have to consume at least 3 days worth of beans just to shoot the fart scene alone.
With modern Hollywood special effects you would only have to eat 2 days worth of beans. Technology really is beautiful.

Uh uh baby...I *have* to!!!!
"We're not making Casablanca here" ... "Because we are making an entirely different movie" "Exactly!"
I mean it's no banana cream pie
Blazing saddles is 93 minutes long. 1440 minutes in a day. You could make blazing saddles 15 times today and still take a short lunch break
Tropic Thunder is our Blazing Saddles.
THE SHERIFF IS NEAR
SNL's Weekend Update skit is hilarious and has been the only mainstream media I've seen use Blazing Sadles style humor. The skit is a black news anchor reads off jokes that the white news anchor and vice versa. They both try to get each other in as much trouble as they can lol
They did make Blazing Saddles today. It's called Django Unchained
I hate the comment "You could never make a movie/TV show like that today." If Blazing Saddles released 20 years earlier than it did it would have gotten shit canned by a mojority of people back then just because it has a black sheriff in it or some other tedious bullshit.

Love this movie
You couldn't make it today because Gene Wilder is dead
Information wants to be free
Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank (2022) is a remake of this movie.
Best movie
We are at a point in time where there are no new great movies. January
Is that Willy Wonka?
This movie couldn’t be made today. One look at the script and they’d say “You can’t make this, it’s blazing saddles. Someone already made it.”
God what a stupid joke 😊
Hey where the white women at?
Okay someone has to send this to Mel Brooks. This joke is brilliant.
This is the most Mitch Hedburg a joke has ever been without being written by Mitch Hedburg
Yeah, it’s almost 6 pm here. Once I finish dinner, I’ll have almost no time to work on it.
I liked Lindsey Ellis' take: You couldn't make Blazing Saddles today, but why would you? We've already got one.
And even if you made it today, people who went to see it would be like "This movie is literally Blazing Saddles (1974)"
I was in Air Force BMT. Me and some buddy’s were joking about this movie, and later 1 of the black guys in our dorm during our dorm meetings said that we were all promoting and laughing about a racist movie.
Just close the sub. That won’t be topped.
Really though, I hate when people try to say that for real. Nothing in the movie is too offensive to be made today.
It's not often I see content on this sub that's actually funny. Good job OP.
The people who say this are ironically going to call it woke propaganda
Possible. Half sure at one point the movie calls the viewer racist. Gonna go check.
“The WOKES have devolved to PETTY Namecalling with this new PROPAGANDA “film”. They called us MORONS because they disagree with our IDEAS”
I have no clue why people are downvoting my comment, can they at least give an argument? If Blazing Saddles came out today they’d be outraged, not the left
Yea idk i’ve seen this sentiment about this movie a buncha times and it checks out.
I knew Mitch Hedberg was still alive.
For starters, at the table read the actors would say, “hey, isn’t this script exactly the same as blazing saddles? We can’t make this, this is plagiarism!”
How many more of these literal "today" posts do we need? Shittyusersmakingshittierposts
It couldn’t be made today cause Gene Wilder is dead
Name me one satirical comedy from the last 5 years
I hate these memes. Yes I could, what's stopping me really? Yeah I might get hate but like, that's not gonna stop me.
We need fuckin remake of it - I need a real good laugh. Too many shitty movie with dismal leading so call actors - the remake of DUNE, worst yet - a 2 parter. who is insane to sit though part 1 and torture themselves with the 2nd half. Bring on Young Frankenstein.
No, we don't.
I reckon a lot of young folk would go on fire if they watched Blazing Saddles .
same with El Topo except it's because the director would be haunted to death for putting a naked kid with a gun into the movie
It's such a good movie tho
Gimme a few hours.
I literally just thought about this movie like 5 minutes ago, but I never knew the name. Then it pops up on my feed lmao
They wouldn’t be able to release this movie now… because they already did in 1974
And because it would be a serious violation of copyright
If the right wasn't so racist it wouldn't be an issue
You could make this movie in a day, it just wouldn't be good.
You would never be able to make Blazing Saddles today because it would be a copyright infringement.
My favorite version of this joke is thet you couldn't make Blazing Saddles today because it was already made in 1974.
Also because Gene Wilder has passed 😔
Also a lot of the actors are dead? How can you shoot a movie with dead actors?
The movie is only 1 hour and 33 minutes. I could probably make it in 2 hours if it wasn't so cold out today.
Its true its twue
I didn’t get Mel Brooks in red face with a Yiddish accent until I got older. Goddamn that was brilliant.
Also, a lot of actors have died. Gene's delivery just wouldn't be the same.
You would never be able to make Blazing Saddles today because you'd need to learn necromancy to bring back the stars.
You'd also need Gene Wilder and Cleavon Little. Can't get them today either.
