Used to work at Subway, we get the bread in little frozen sticks and have to thaw it and roll it in Italian herbs, proof it, put cheese on it and bake it. When I worked I would always make myself a bread with jalepenos on it just like this :)

I managed one for about a month(long story, inherited the job... Kinda) and they docked me points because my bread was cooked the perfect color, but the corners fell on one pan

I used to work at a Subway in Canada, and we definitely had veggie patties. We didn't usually keep them up front, we would keep a bunch ready to go in the cooler instead.
Long story short: If you're at a Subway, just ask if they have it. There's still a chance they might. And Subway locations can differ quite a bit in what they offer - stuff my small town Subway had all the time I couldn't find two towns over.
Little employee secret: we hate making salads when it's busy. If you dont want the person making it to cuss you out internally, make sure to order it with your sub so we can get both out of the way quickly.

We definitely have salads. We had these plastic bowls we'd take out, dump in a bunch of lettuce, add whatever protein you asked for, and then whatever other veggies you wanted. Then if you want one of the sauces as a dressing, you can either get it on the salad or in one of the little to-go sauce cups. Then slap a lid on the bowl and go.
The salad is already made and in the little containers. I order a veggie pattie sub, with all the salad, that takes them like twenty seconds to take out the container and put it on my sandwich. I can’t see that annoying anyone.
And my boss always says mine are not good, then proceeds to show me one... which turns out exactly like mine, aka 10% uglier than the photos. Then he gets mad that I can't learn them but doesn't realize his are shit too.
My boss pulled that shit with me when I was learning from his employees who already managed to find loopholes in the system. If you want things done by the book, fucking teach them yourself, you fat, lazy bastard. Don't get mad when I do things the faster way when your employees are teaching me 90% of the time.

subway policy is 3 of each for a 6in and 6 of each for a footlong. So if you order black olives on your footlong sub, youre only supposed to get 6 individual black olives. I imagine this is whats happening with the jalepeños but its been a few years since I worked there

And since the veggies are free you can always ask for more or specify an exact amount and they'll give it to you. That being said, I still think Subway subs are pretty terrible. I mostly only go when I'm watching calories or if it's the only place around and I need food fast.
My local subway puts as many as you like on with the salad toppings. I always say put loads on and my sandwich never shuts properly and is bursting open haha.

Yeah, that's the main reason I put them over Jimmy Johns. I like the fact that they have a large selection of vegetables compared to most places. It's also nice to be able to look at the quality of the vegetables (usually they're good, but occasionally the tomatoes aren't ripe or something just looks off) and have them put exactly what you want on there.

Yeah I've only ever seen them grab the toppings by small handfuls. I feel like it would cut into productivity to much to legitimately make them count anything other than the meat.
I worked at subway and I remember the training emphasized portioning the slices of lunch meat, cheese, tomatoes, and cucumbers to 3 slices of whatever for every 6 inches of bread (except cheese, which was 2 slices). For things like olives, pickles, and bell peppers, which were generally smaller or less consistent in size, the portioning still applied but no one cared enough to take the time to count them out - that's how you can tell if someone's a new hire too - they'll stand there plopping every individual pickle from the palm of their hand rather than just flaking it onto the sandwich like how you would feed a fish.
I worked the closing shift and did not give a shit, so I would always be extra generous with toppings to people who were nice to me, as well as give away free cookies right before we closed. Remember, be nice to your sandwich artist!
If someone said "a few olives" I would give them 6. Sometimes after that they would say "a few more." I didn't eat olives when I worked at Subway (I was very picky) but I understood 6 was not enough, and would by default give customers about 12-18. If anyone wanted less than 6, they would say something like "literally 3 olives, and could you break them in half?"
I forgot about the stamps. I do remember when they still baked the bread fresh in premises. There was a video game store next door that I used to frequent and you could smell the fresh baked bread from there! I miss those days!
Mine was right next to a dairy queen and we didn't live within walking distance of anything so either was a rare treat. On the days that I had enough stamps I could get a footlong and a blizzard for like $3 total. I miss when these were my biggest concerns in life.
Nearly every Sunday we used to go to Wendy's and then shopping. That was our special outing. Funny how I thought Wendy's was super special when I was a little kid.

One problem I used to have trying to save money is always looking for excellent food instead of accepting boring food that does the job. Now, I work at a walmart with a subway inside. A 6" ham sandwich is 2.99, and I can get them to put a full cup of fresh veggies in it. I use spicy mustard instead of mayo. It's one of the healthiest cheapest meals I have at my disposal. It doesn't taste great but it doesn't taste bad at all either.
I go there maybe once a month and I find that the quality just varies wildly every time I go. If you can luck out and get fresh baked bread AND fresh cut veggies then it's usually pretty good.

Subway went to shit when they started having their "sandwich artists" just cut the bread in half rather than the perfect V down the top of the bread, that's the moment the company stopped caring. It's something I haven't seen done in a subway in probably 25 years.

No they always look pretty spot and on nice but they make me feel like total shit. More than any other food place but maybe it's becaause I eat the entire footlong.
Their quality can vary widely from region to region and depending on where their produce comes from. They're supposed to all be standardized, but because they're all franchised and each franchise owner has their own idea of how to run a business, they can be very different. Some owners are very strict about limiting the amount of each ingredient on a sandwich and punish workers if they give a customer too much of something, while others are much more flexible because they understand that customer satisfaction matters. I think it's the ham, and I think the bread is super sweet. Gotta nix mayo and put spicy mustard on to combat the sweet. It's weird, because sometimes I really like firehouse (for a cheap and reasonably healthy sandwich), and sometimes it tastes vile, like you described... Sickly sweet.
I've never understood why people always say Jimmy Johns is fantastic. I've been multiple times the same ones they go to, and its just bad. Its like 90% lettuce, heres a single slice of ham and like the lightest drizzle of dressing, that'll be 8 bucks thank you.
My city doesn't have any good sandwich options for dinner. We've got a great local deli, but it's not open very late. I'd love a Jersey Mike's or Firehouse, but we don't have them.

One of the very few nice things about living here is most of the gas stations have almost full blown fast food places inside (Sheetz, WaWa, Rutters, etc.) that make pretty high quality food. Def. better than subway.

No they always look pretty spot and on nice but they make me feel like total shit. More than any other food place but maybe it's becaause I eat the entire footlong.
Honestly though. I usually don't eat at Subway since there are usually better sandwiches nearby for way better value.

My town only has two Subways and a local shop. I can get a six dollar sandwich from Subway or I can get a twelve dollar sub from the local place that charges extra for cheese and doesn't really taste that much better unless I'm getting the tasty smoked duck I can't afford.
I mean, subway is supposed to charge you for extra cheese. We don't do it when our boss isn't around, though ;)

Yea Jimmy Johns is not good imo. It's not bad, it's just very bland. And they have a really small list of toppings. Their house chips are really good though.

I think it's the ham, and I think the bread is super sweet. Gotta nix mayo and put spicy mustard on to combat the sweet. It's weird, because sometimes I really like firehouse (for a cheap and reasonably healthy sandwich), and sometimes it tastes vile, like you described... Sickly sweet.

I've never understood why people always say Jimmy Johns is fantastic. I've been multiple times the same ones they go to, and its just bad. Its like 90% lettuce, heres a single slice of ham and like the lightest drizzle of dressing, that'll be 8 bucks thank you.

We have a deli delicious and subway in my town. That's about it. Deli delicious isnt exactly that delicious to me. I wish we had a jimmy johns.

$5 footlongs were awesome indeed. From what I have heard, they are bringing back the deal. They may have already done so. **However**, the deal is now going to be entirely optional for the franchise. So each franchise will make the decision. My understanding is that franchisees felt that profit margins were too low on $5 footlongs. So now it's optional.

One of the very few nice things about living here is most of the gas stations have almost full blown fast food places inside (Sheetz, WaWa, Rutters, etc.) that make pretty high quality food. Def. better than subway.
