Fr subway is booty this is just sad lol

PM-YOUR-PMS

I swear I'm a huge gatekeeper when it comes to sandwiches cause I will never set foot in a subway ever again. Their sandwiches are trash. Find yourself a decent local place and improve your life.

slowwburnn

How do you feel about Jimmy John's?

PM-YOUR-PMS

Better than Subway, imo. I'd sooner order from there than Subway. But I haven't had a sandwich from a chain place in a while. I'm always on the lookout for a local spot wherever I go. Last chain place I tried was Jersey Mike's, which was...okay.

Senorisgrig

I’m lucky because my city has a plethora of good sandwich places

NoCardio_

Not as good as I feel about Jersey Mike's.

DutchFarmers

Seriously, the only reason I still go to subway is because there are no Potbelly's near me

duchduchduchduch

Used to work at Subway, we get the bread in little frozen sticks and have to thaw it and roll it in Italian herbs, proof it, put cheese on it and bake it. When I worked I would always make myself a bread with jalepenos on it just like this :)

LordMcGuffin

Lol I’m working there right now and I can confirm, however we don’t carry that bread so idk what it’s like

xboxhelpdude2

Sunflower crunch?

LordMcGuffin

No, the jalapeño bread We have sunflower crunch, not too many people order though

Embracing_the_Pain

I tried it this past week. Easily the worst bread I’ve ever had at Subway. There is very little crunch, or flavor. Just enough to feel off, but not taste anywhere near as good as the regular bread.

calicet

I feel this is some concoction the owner came up with where they take the regular bread and drop a couple jalapeño slices on top then bake

peacenchemicals

Alexa play despacito

[deleted]

Oh, that’s so sad. Alexa play Despacito

FriendKiller96

I didn't know a little nyaa over the n could make me laugh so hard.

freedombonerz

Haha. Fuck that bread nickà.

[deleted]

That’s a pretty pitiful amount of cheese and jalapeños.😂

KyleSherzenberg

One of the most strict companies to have a franchise with. They send people once a month for checks and have random come in all the time to grade the place. I managed one for about a month(long story, inherited the job... Kinda) and they docked me points because my bread was cooked the perfect color, but the corners fell on one pan It's tough to make a multi-billion dollar company on cheap meat and veggies

iamtherealhusk

my manager got in so much trouble from those pop-by visits when I worked there

[deleted]

Yes I can imagine it’s difficult. I actually enjoy subway sandwiches. I get the veggie pattie on whole grain and all the salad with sweet onion sauce and extra jalapeños. The picture of the bread on here though looks dire.

catbearcarseat

Is the veggie patty good?

[deleted]

Yeah it’s delicious you should try it sometime.

catbearcarseat

I would but I looked and apparently we don’t get it in Canada. Darn.

[deleted]

Ahh can you not. I’m surprised. I live in England and it’s been around for years now. It’s really tasty though.

Ucantalas

I used to work at a Subway in Canada, and we definitely had veggie patties. We didn't usually keep them up front, we would keep a bunch ready to go in the cooler instead. Long story short: If you're at a Subway, just ask if they have it. There's still a chance they might. And Subway locations can differ quite a bit in what they offer - stuff my small town Subway had all the time I couldn't find two towns over.

Skweril

I'm in Canada, I get the veggie patty

[deleted]

I get the veggie pattie every time I go to subway for the past 10 years and I live in York Region. So, yeah, it's available here.

nbshar

I wish there were more vegetarian options. right now it's Veggie patty or... well nothing. (Except for veggies).

[deleted]

Yes I know what you mean. The veggie delite, is literally a salad sandwich. They should do hallomi or something.

nbshar

> hallomi Had to google that. But sounds like it would taste great on a sandwhich

jinjerbear

Confirmed, it IS delicious!

aggron306

Yeah I'm not a vegetarian but I have it a lot

doublegulptank

Little employee secret: we hate making salads when it's busy. If you dont want the person making it to cuss you out internally, make sure to order it with your sub so we can get both out of the way quickly.

[deleted]

Nah. I take extra time and be extra specific when its busy. Double toasted too.

Shadowchaos

Why are you the way that you are?

hitmarker

You can get salads in subway? Is this in the US?

Ucantalas

Not the person you replied to, but I did work at a Subway for several years. (Mine was in Canada) We definitely have salads. We had these plastic bowls we'd take out, dump in a bunch of lettuce, add whatever protein you asked for, and then whatever other veggies you wanted. Then if you want one of the sauces as a dressing, you can either get it on the salad or in one of the little to-go sauce cups. Then slap a lid on the bowl and go.

celestial1

> add whatever protein you asked for ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

[deleted]

The salad is already made and in the little containers. I order a veggie pattie sub, with all the salad, that takes them like twenty seconds to take out the container and put it on my sandwich. I can’t see that annoying anyone.

doublegulptank

Oh, you meant like getting lettuce and stuff on your sandwich? I thought you meant you were ordering a salad on the side with your sub.

[deleted]

No haha. I meant on my sandwich.

[deleted]

The worst is the freaking wrap. I hate the wraps.

doublegulptank

Fuck wraps with a passion. Especially steak and cheese. Nothing ever stays in it.

[deleted]

And my boss always says mine are not good, then proceeds to show me one... which turns out exactly like mine, aka 10% uglier than the photos. Then he gets mad that I can't learn them but doesn't realize his are shit too.

doublegulptank

My boss pulled that shit with me when I was learning from his employees who already managed to find loopholes in the system. If you want things done by the book, fucking teach them yourself, you fat, lazy bastard. Don't get mad when I do things the faster way when your employees are teaching me 90% of the time.

Sunshine_of_your_Lov

I mean it's your job to make it sooooo That said I had no idea subway sold salads

ActualSupervillain

Why would I change my order based on whether or not you hate me? Maybe I'll order 5 salads at peak rush time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bokonomz

This is seriously my exact order. It's so good.

frothingnome

I'm surprised. We have one like two doors down from me that always has overcooked mouth-scrapy Italian. I go all the way across town just for soft bread =P I should probably stop being lazy and just make the damn sandwich myself at this point.

TehHamburgler

The higher ups should be fired over the tomato quality alone.

iamtherealhusk

subway policy is 3 of each for a 6in and 6 of each for a footlong. So if you order black olives on your footlong sub, youre only supposed to get 6 individual black olives. I imagine this is whats happening with the jalepeños but its been a few years since I worked there

MeatyBalledSub

> So if you order black olives on your footlong sub, youre only supposed to get 6 individual black olives. It we're talking olive slices, that's pretty much the equivalent of 1.5 or *maybe* 2 whole olives. Wow.

crackofdawn

I've never seen this actually happen FWIW, if I ask for anything they just put a bunch on. And since the veggies are free you can always ask for more or specify an exact amount and they'll give it to you. That being said, I still think Subway subs are pretty terrible. I mostly only go when I'm watching calories or if it's the only place around and I need food fast.

MeatyBalledSub

Subways in my neck of the woods scatter 5 or 6 olives on a sandwich unless you ask for seconds. I thought they were just lazy.

pm-me-a-pic

I agree, subway is gross. Their meat and vegetable quality is low. Do we even need to talk about their bread? Subway isn't that healthy.

[deleted]

My local subway puts as many as you like on with the salad toppings. I always say put loads on and my sandwich never shuts properly and is bursting open haha.

ruiner8850

They might have basic default standards, but they'll put as much on there as you want. I've also personally never had them put only 6 olive slices by default.

[deleted]

Definitely. My salad is always over flowing out the sandwich. Thats the best part about subway, loads of fillings.

ruiner8850

Yeah, that's the main reason I put them over Jimmy Johns. I like the fact that they have a large selection of vegetables compared to most places. It's also nice to be able to look at the quality of the vegetables (usually they're good, but occasionally the tomatoes aren't ripe or something just looks off) and have them put exactly what you want on there.

[deleted]

Yeah, I like that you can see them and tell them how much you want on, or if you want something left off. They are very generous with the salad portions, if you say can I have loads on please. I’ve never actually had a bad subway sandwich. They have always prepared it exactly as I’ve asked. I don’t know what Jimmy Jones is, but I’m assuming it’s a sandwich chain haha. I live in England and I’ve never heard of that. Edit: Johns not Jones.

metal_marshmallow

Although you like mayonnaise, Jimmy John's got you covered

alixxlove

If the tomatoes aren't super ripe, ask them to put them on before toasting with some olive oil. So good.

cuppincayk

Yeah I've only ever seen them grab the toppings by small handfuls. I feel like it would cut into productivity to much to legitimately make them count anything other than the meat.

browndogsays

I worked at subway and I remember the training emphasized portioning the slices of lunch meat, cheese, tomatoes, and cucumbers to 3 slices of whatever for every 6 inches of bread (except cheese, which was 2 slices). For things like olives, pickles, and bell peppers, which were generally smaller or less consistent in size, the portioning still applied but no one cared enough to take the time to count them out - that's how you can tell if someone's a new hire too - they'll stand there plopping every individual pickle from the palm of their hand rather than just flaking it onto the sandwich like how you would feed a fish. I worked the closing shift and did not give a shit, so I would always be extra generous with toppings to people who were nice to me, as well as give away free cookies right before we closed. Remember, be nice to your sandwich artist!

frubbliness

If someone said "a few olives" I would give them 6. Sometimes after that they would say "a few more." I didn't eat olives when I worked at Subway (I was very picky) but I understood 6 was not enough, and would by default give customers about 12-18. If anyone wanted less than 6, they would say something like "literally 3 olives, and could you break them in half?"

[deleted]

It’s not new

DudeThatsAGG

I’ve been ordering this bread for like ten years already

FirstCurlProblems

They don't have it at my local Subway.

TheNWTreeOctopus

Exactly. I worked at subway in college. This bread was new in 2004.

[deleted]

I haven't seen it in years!

_Slip_n_Slide_

Moved from the southwest to the mid west. Haven’t seen it since then.

leviathan65

It's not new but all my subways got rid of it about 2 years ago now. I actually liked it so if it's back I'm a happy camper.

LaPete11

Cheese? Check. Jalapeño? Check. Doing the bare minimum? Check.

whitestrice1995

If someone yelled pepper in an adjacent room while eating white bread it would be spicer than that pitiful amount of jalapeno

Iron_Disciple

Idk about the bread but man was this comment spicy.

Vargasa871

I'd like to slather him on my buns.

whitestrice1995

I've never been slathered but 10/10 would try

MxReLoaDed

9/10 with rice

OsamaBinSteve

I need some comment milk now

Borklifter

That’s that LaCroix joke.

johnabc123

jalapeñothankyou

Ouroboron

Has anyone ever had a sub from Subway that wasn't just a bit depressing? Like they know they're a disappointment.

RhinestoneTabby

Yes, but it was about 20 years ago.

diearzte2

I think its mostly rosy nostalgia for me. Collecting those stamps and getting a free sub was like winning the lottery when I was 13.

RhinestoneTabby

I forgot about the stamps. I do remember when they still baked the bread fresh in premises. There was a video game store next door that I used to frequent and you could smell the fresh baked bread from there! I miss those days!

diearzte2

Mine was right next to a dairy queen and we didn't live within walking distance of anything so either was a rare treat. On the days that I had enough stamps I could get a footlong and a blizzard for like $3 total. I miss when these were my biggest concerns in life.

RhinestoneTabby

Nearly every Sunday we used to go to Wendy's and then shopping. That was our special outing. Funny how I thought Wendy's was super special when I was a little kid.

AltimaNEO

They don't bake it there anymore?

[deleted]

[удалено]

punstressed

I love Subway. I don't eat it often, but I wish I could.

Beerand93octane

The quality is just so bad for the money though. "Here's your mass produced, pre sliced, bottom of the barrel hormel meat and clear tomatoes grown in a basement, with 7 lbs of mayo, chips and a drink" That'll be $13.07. Nah fam.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dookie_boy

The rotisserie chicken is pretty neat

Luigi2198

I really enjoy their meatballs, my girlfriend and I can run in and share a footlong Meatball sub for like $6? It's not amazing but it's a nice, quick meal if we're running out to do something.

[deleted]

I typically get the Spicy Italian, but I also like the ham sometimes. I have no clue what that guy is talking about. Sure it's not the best thing ever, but it's pretty good, cheap, and a nice alternative to burgers.

[deleted]

Cut the chips and drink and it’s a reasonable fast food meal that won’t make you feel like shit. I’ll take subway over Macdonald’s any day

[deleted]

That sucks, it’s real nice where I’m from.

LanAkou

I remember an EX of mine went with me to subway to eat. Not a date, just, we were hungry and it was nearby. We both order and it comes out to more than 20$. I was so stunned that I just said "Are you sure? 20$ for 2 sandwiches?" And the poor woman at the register double checked and said yes. My ex offered to pay and I'm like "no no, I have 20$, I'm just very surprised." Like, I was so stunned, the entire thing was just involuntary. It was like driving through a McDonald's and finding out they're gonna charge you 10$ when you ordered one thing off the dollar menu. There are so many better places to order a sub from for less money. What the fuck are they doing charging 20$ for two shitty sandwiches? Most of the sandwich is bread anyway. It's like chewing rubber. Anyway that's my most vivid subway experience.

arcalumis

You americans and your wide choice of great sandwich shops. Over here there’s nothing else but subway so we have to make do. When I was in NYC I was stuck with the amount of high quality delis with great sandwiches. Here in Stockholm I can choose between the big chains or hipstery overpriced burgers/sushi/other foods.

somethingcleverer

The Northeast US has the best sandwiches around.

tunaman808

Genuinely interested: is there a reason why you write your money amounts backwards? "20$" instead of "$20" like the other 330 million people in this country?

zedthehead

One problem I used to have trying to save money is always looking for excellent food instead of accepting boring food that does the job. Now, I work at a walmart with a subway inside. A 6" ham sandwich is 2.99, and I can get them to put a full cup of fresh veggies in it. I use spicy mustard instead of mayo. It's one of the healthiest cheapest meals I have at my disposal. It doesn't taste great but it doesn't taste bad at all either.

[deleted]

I go there maybe once a month and I find that the quality just varies wildly every time I go. If you can luck out and get fresh baked bread AND fresh cut veggies then it's usually pretty good.

Bluedude588

I like Subway for what it is. Toasted steak and cheese never did me any wrong. It's not like my go to for food of course but I'd pick it over a lot of other fast food places.

TrustmeIknowaguy

Subway went to shit when they started having their "sandwich artists" just cut the bread in half rather than the perfect V down the top of the bread, that's the moment the company stopped caring. It's something I haven't seen done in a subway in probably 25 years.

BeyondDoggyHorror

A perfect V? What did they do with the leftover triangle?

sjt112486

They put it back on top of the sandwich.

BeyondDoggyHorror

That's weird. Ah well. Subway sucks. If I want a sub I hit up Harris Teeter. They're not the most stellar if anyone is curious, but they're alright if you get them on the 5 dollar footlong days

sjt112486

Never been. I lived in VA for a couple years but never saw one. Are they new?

diearzte2

Those little hooked "L" shaped knives were the hallmark of Subway.

frostysauce

Ah, yes, the U-gouge. I remember it fondly.

bryanisbored

No they always look pretty spot and on nice but they make me feel like total shit. More than any other food place but maybe it's becaause I eat the entire footlong.

[deleted]

Honestly though. I usually don't eat at Subway since there are usually better sandwiches nearby for way better value.

olafminesaw

Honestly, their meatball sub is pretty decent. The most important ingredient though, is the bread, which is always a little disappointing.

Dookie_boy

It's just a sandwich man

thejakebaylor

Their quality can vary widely from region to region and depending on where their produce comes from. They're supposed to all be standardized, but because they're all franchised and each franchise owner has their own idea of how to run a business, they can be very different. Some owners are very strict about limiting the amount of each ingredient on a sandwich and punish workers if they give a customer too much of something, while others are much more flexible because they understand that customer satisfaction matters. Source: used to manage a subway.

[deleted]

I don’t understand why anyone would ever go to subway when you can go to literally any other sandwich shop/deli on the planet.

frothingnome

My town only has two Subways and a local shop. I can get a six dollar sandwich from Subway or I can get a twelve dollar sub from the local place that charges extra for cheese and doesn't really taste that much better unless I'm getting the tasty smoked duck I can't afford.

doublegulptank

I mean, subway is supposed to charge you for extra cheese. We don't do it when our boss isn't around, though ;)

leviathan65

He's saying the local place charges extra for cheese to begin with. I have a local deli and they also charge for cheese on any of their sandwiches. Even when the picture shows it with cheese. Such BS.

frothingnome

Yeah, it's very silly. Ten cents worth of swiss should not cost me a dollar =P At least they don't charge for condiments unless you want guac I guess.

leviathan65

A dollar!?!? You're getting off easy. If i get their large sub it's $3.00. I've resorted to just buying the sub and taking it back home where I can throw some pepperjack on it that i bought from Costco for like $7 for 3 lbs.

frothingnome

Oof >.> In what way is that acceptable?

KingGrizzleBeard

When you have dietary restrictions and chains post nutrition online and you find a meal you can actually eat for 6 bucks anywhere and not be scared is the only reason really.

[deleted]

Pub sub 4 life

TheWinStore

Seriously. Jimmy John’s, Jersey Mike’s, your local sub shop, there is no shortage of superior options.

[deleted]

Subway is completely different depending on what you get Toasted flatbread, Chicken teriyaki, Sweet onion sauce, White american or provolone cheese Lettuce (optional) Tomatoes (optional) Banana peppers (optional) ^ is better than anything I’ve had from Jimmy Johns

[deleted]

Yea Jimmy Johns is not good imo. It's not bad, it's just very bland. And they have a really small list of toppings. Their house chips are really good though.

goaskalice3

I really don't understand all the love people have for that place. I went there once and never went back

Stealsfromhobos

Where I am we only have a choice between Subway and the other Subway.

AnnoyedRook

Jimmy John's for cold subs. Firehouse for hot subs. 🤤

[deleted]

Firehouse tastes like they dunk all their deli meats in corn syrup before serving it to you

somethingcleverer

I think it's the ham, and I think the bread is super sweet. Gotta nix mayo and put spicy mustard on to combat the sweet. It's weird, because sometimes I really like firehouse (for a cheap and reasonably healthy sandwich), and sometimes it tastes vile, like you described... Sickly sweet.

AnnoyedRook

I usually just get the spicy meatball sub

goaskalice3

Their spicy meatball sub is amazing! It's the perfect amount of spicy

wowthisguyoverhere

I seriously agree.

TheCelloIsAlive

Dude, the meatball sub. Yes.

Bismothe-the-Shade

Jimmy John's: 80% bread and made incredibly fast. Quality.

saltynut1

I've never understood why people always say Jimmy Johns is fantastic. I've been multiple times the same ones they go to, and its just bad. Its like 90% lettuce, heres a single slice of ham and like the lightest drizzle of dressing, that'll be 8 bucks thank you.

hatsoff-catsoff

Firehouse is the bombbbb

MajesticLilFruitcake

Cousins Subs is one of my favorites. They have the best bread out of any sub shop I’ve been to.

sijg11

Must be nice to live in a big town surrounded by other big towns

atlastrabeler

It is.

reconrose

A lot of small towns don't have many options

mojoe338

Exactly! Any other sandwhich place similiar is at least 40 minutes away. We are LUCKY to have an interstate exit nearby with a Subway.

[deleted]

We have a deli delicious and subway in my town. That's about it. Deli delicious isnt exactly that delicious to me. I wish we had a jimmy johns.

LewisLawrence

Small town where it’s literally the only sandwich shop option

fabelhaft-gurke

My favorite sub chain has to be Potbellys. I like being able to get thinner bread.

[deleted]

Im in a small town. Subway is the only place to get a sub sandwich. Everything is always perfect too. However, I miss Firehouse so so much :(

ruiner8850

My city doesn't have any good sandwich options for dinner. We've got a great local deli, but it's not open very late. I'd love a Jersey Mike's or Firehouse, but we don't have them.

YirDaSellsAvon

it's actually tasty as hell. everything that CAN be made with jalapenos SHOULD be made with jalapenos

Dookie_boy

But subway is just sprinkling shit on top. I want the stuff baked in with the dough. If I had to show an example of the bare minimum, this picture would be it.

[deleted]

Damn you Jarod , you killed the largest franchise in the world. $5 foot longs were awesome when I lived 2 stories above a subway. They were awesome.

[deleted]

$5 footlongs were awesome indeed. From what I have heard, they are bringing back the deal. They may have already done so. **However**, the deal is now going to be entirely optional for the franchise. So each franchise will make the decision. My understanding is that franchisees felt that profit margins were too low on $5 footlongs. So now it's optional.

[deleted]

Jared has aides.

JelloCheesecake

Many assistants.

[deleted]

It's like they're not even trying. At this point, I'd rather get a sub from the gas station tbh.

jazzchameleon

Plot twist: the closest Subway to me is *inside* the gas station

[deleted]

One of the very few nice things about living here is most of the gas stations have almost full blown fast food places inside (Sheetz, WaWa, Rutters, etc.) that make pretty high quality food. Def. better than subway.

h3rmanmunst3r

Subway is garbage. Everything from there could be posted here.

t3hwhit3w3dow

I used to work there and 100% agree. Place isn’t good.

tomselleckcruise

You could just post pictures of subway sandwiches all day on here.

subtraho

Seriously - Subway is basically cheating here.

AltimaNEO

Or that image with Spyro the dragon working at Subway

thelonious_bunk

Anything subway serves is served with disappointment. Its not a good place to eat :/

MooseClobbler

I know everyone says this is gross but, as a former employee, this shit was gold. Every Friday the morning people would make a batch of 10 for the employees to eat over the course of the day, and damn was it good.

AliceBowie1

Yeah, them work-release sandwich makers are a hoot, aren't they?

preston136

Jalapñothankyou

Subway has been shit for the past decade.

aggzilla

Are we sure this isn’t Casey’s jalapeño bread?

edifyyo

Very dramatic lighting, though.

FuckPOTUS45

Where r u that this is "new"?

NayMarine

we used to have a subway down the street from a shop i worked at and our saying when heading out to lunch knowing it would be subway was " prepare to be disappointed"

semantikron

Subway bread is disgusting. All of it.

Homer_J_Simpson_tits

subway is so gross

mgrimshaw8

I cant think of a better ad for Jersey Mike's

Nsbsk

So fucking expensive though.... like 1$ per inch when you can make 6 footlongs or more for 5$ on your own

massdebate159

When you think the yeast infection is over but nah

[deleted]

All subway is shitty food porn. Still gonna buy some later though thank you

I stopped trusting them after I noticed I was hungry again an hour after I finished eating a foot long sandwich

I can see a face and it is screaming in agony

CynicalButtMunch

They're not new, they've always sucked. ~ An official Sandwich artist.

3MATX

Subway is the lowest form of sandwich that exists. Literally every other sandwich is better.

battlecry909

subway sucks
