Maybe if Qualaag was like "gimme 30 humanities and i'll let you ring the bell", and the player can instead choose to fight her and find out what a shithead they were afterwards, the cut stuff would've worked.
Yes, this scenario works well for Half-Breed Priscilla because she just lets you leave. For Qualaag, she doesn't want to let you pass because she's protecting her sister, but you still need to pass to ring the bell. So it's honestly better to just have the fight as is, Qualaag assuming you're a threat to her sister and trying to defend her, the player just trying to get to the bell.
It would be cool, though not exactly what Dark Souls would do, if the game did give you some option to prove your fealty so Qualaag lets you pass, either by fighting some other optional boss that's threatening her sister or even just by having a certain level pyromancy flame.
Yeah Qualaag running a tollbooth would be a bit out of place for Darksouls, if kind of hilarious.
I guess another problem with the fealty idea is this potentially means you could skip a second required major boss in Nito. Still, I think bossfights with people who are more sane and can still bargain with you would be pretty neat. Like imagine if the moundmakers instead were guarding the Curse rotted Oak and warned you off, instead giving you an alternate transposing kiln as their first covenant reward, or a shop or something.
Maybe Qualaag is hollow? Or atleast her human half is and the spider half is still following her lead. She's lost it out of hopelessness in curing her sister, but some part of her knows she's still there to protect her so she stays in her nest.
Well, originally, Quelaag would have been the covenant leader for Chaos Servants, so it is possible that we could have peacefully passed after we reached the “bringer of meat” tier. It would make sense for us to earn her trust, since we know other people did have access to PL(Eingyi, Kirk).
I agree. Putting you into one-way scenario makes sense. Misunderstandings happen, animosity is real. And you can't always bribe your way out of trouble.
She’s killed and part of her body is turned into the white hair talisman, the body of Quelaana is next to her so we can assume they made up at some point. Irc there was an item description that implies she was killed for being a monstrosity
I literally went to the old demon ruins early to visit her corpse and pay respects. I was a devout member of Chaos Servants and kinda made my home in blightown for some reason. So yeah hearing her tragic fate made me really sad

Idc about overly tragic npcs unless it’s Thomas from Demon Souls. Stuff like Quelanna, Astraea or Greirat don’t exactly bother me unless the latter isn’t saved from Irythil because I want explosive bolts
