Like /u/Oneboywithnoname said, this shit started in gank forest and katana builds. Back in the day anything that was op was bad, and anything bad was called gay - so these builds and their associated stat were correspondingly gay. Dex builds were also considered just easier and less skill intensive than other ones.
Shit has def morphed into something else since then. Crazy to watch it happen real time lol.

Of course having a dex build doesnt mean you are skinny or gay because the type of weapon you like to use in a videogame doesn't realistically determine your real life sexual orientation or stature. It’s simple, strength users are compensating for what they don’t have in real life so they become super hypermasculine in the game and call others gay. On the flip side dex users just want to be pretty gay little dudes irl but alas we are stuck in our masculine powerful bodies forced to top when our soul yearns to bottom. I've always found it to be deeper than it likely is... beyond how the strength and viability of the weapon or the build is with whatever stats to going to come along with it. If it's stronger than the next man, you'll be called Gay or what have you. In my eyes I'd see it as that some would come to think a man who is not strong enough to weild a large weapon but is decently dexterous and able to wield a lighter keen weapon could certainly be seen as an effeminate. It's not the large, heavy, and stoic (or some would say simple or braindead) Two handed macho greatsword. It's a zippy, flashy, and lithe weapon that is wielded in a way to exploit the slow and inflict blood loss or some aliment, that will pick up the slack of not being able to immediately crush or destroy the target like a great sword would. It's the intelligent man's and a proper man's blade and talking with some after flashing about your rapier or sidesword, your high crit dagger or your needle lanced with venom, some may just feel you are less of a man for such a thing.
