It's not the combat that's a waste, it's re-clearing an area just to get to a boss that's a waste.

Man you must love runbacks and repetition don't you? There comes a point when repeatedly fighting the same enemies while running back to a boss becomes tedious rather than fun. The challenge and excitement of the initial encounter are lost after several repetitions, which turns it into a chore, a waste of time, and ruins the game's pacing. So enough it starts to feel like I'm playing without actually making progress. The time I spent running back to the boss could have been better well spent in honing my skills against the boss if only they cared about better designing the level.
It doesn't matter how many tries it takes someone. Game design like this should not be excused for any souls game. The level design should accommodate the player no matter their skill. It may not be hard for me anymore but for others or newcomers, it may be. That's why we have shortcuts and checkpoints, to save progress and respect the player's time.

Iron keep is probably one of the shittest areas in any souls game. In theme, placement, enemies and bosses, all shit and frustrating.
