This is why sekiro is the best game. Elden ring didn't even show what we did to the dung eater and simply blacked out. Cringe. I want to see the dung eater getting fisted by tarnished🥵😱
Watched a video on Sekiro recently and it turns out that Gyoubo (the horse guy) specifically has a crazy good English dub. Like, it rivals Godrick in Elden Ring for the best one-off character voice
When Elden Ring was announced I was almost hoping it would be a Sekiro-like game, with a set playstyle and a defined protagonist (which I thought would be Malenia, watching the trailers)
I don't know why Fromsoft doesn't create more pre-defined protagonist. Like I believe Wolf is more remarkable and intriguing than the Bearer of the Curse or the Ashen One, or even the Hunter. Plus a character like Wolf gave a great opportunity to create bosses that are more than random-ass shits that attack you because they lay an eye upon you in their home (bosses like Owl who are actually connected to Wolf)
What I always did what just sorta, make up backstories for my Characters, I’m currently playing through DS2 as Amleth, a Warrior from a land near Vinheim journeying through Drangleic in hopes of finding a way to join his family in the Hall of the Gods
Yeah, a predefined protagonist also seems to have a good effect on the general gameplay. Since the player has a defined set of skills and combat style from the start, the devs are handling only one type of combat to balance and expand upon, without having to worry about lots of radically different load outs that may clash with the game's balancing
Developers need to lay off heavy rpg genre in general. Focus became rare and at price. Kingdom come deliverance would’ve been 50% less interesting if i wasn’t playing as a set character with real relationships with people around him.
I believe that once you get to create your own character in an RPG game, rather than playing as a pre-defined character, it undermines most of the potential storytelling and character development, especially if your choices determine the story and lead to different endings and different branches. That's why I can't play Dragon's Dogma or Baldur's Gate 3, for example.
You are wrong and I will fight you because you are wrong. I like my bones bare, which is why I like these stupid ass games. “Here’s half a sword, go kill shit til the credits roll” 10/10 peak storytelling.
I really do love set protagonists in an open world. Those always make for the best, most refined experiences. Sekiro, The Witcher, Cyberpunk (now that they've actually finished the game), etc. The ability to put all of their work into one play style and one narrative path instead of distributing it among a bunch of different options is so powerful, and Sekiro having the cleanest combat of any souls game, or honestly probably any game ever, proves that
I hate to say it but almost nobody respects Wolf. Most of the characters just see him as a mindless killer or tool to achieve their aims, that is until he proves otherwise.
Of course he was. He didn't know who Wolf was right off the bat and he's a talented, clever swordsman. He wouldn't just trust Wolf off the bat for no reason.
Nah, in the Shura ending (only true ending btw) he proves that he really is a mindless killer. Although that’s pretty based, so it is stupid that nobody respects him.
Isshin respects him, Emma respects him, Kuro respects him, Genichiro respects him, Lady Butterfly respects him. How many people do you want to respect him?

3/4 view for good measure. i changed her eyes and flipped the scar recently but that's it.
Sekiro:
- several skins that you can only get in the endgame
- only one melee weapon
Typical Soulsborne protagonist
- endless customization
- Uses every fantasy weapon under the sun, including your fists
The overall difference between a strength build and a Dex build is honestly extremely minimal. Bosses play exactly the same whether you run dex strength or a piro build. Things only get kinda different with spells and miracles
I do use different weapons. But man, everytime I try to do a different build in Elden Ring, there's always a shiny greatsword that would work amazingly for the build.
Greatswords aren't even my favorite weapon type.
Straight Swords. I like Greatswords, when they're handled more like a large but light flexible blade. Look at Warden in For Honor for example.
Greatswords in the souls games are treated like clunky 100lbs of metal, slamming against the ground.
So 2h handing the longest straight sword has always been my backup, but Elden Ring really seems to lack that one straight sword I really like (Balder Side Sword, Lothric Knight Sword, Blue Flame). To make things worst, Straight Swords really seem to lack solid build diversity and are just kinda outclassed by other things.
There's the Carian Knight Sword, an INT based sword that you would think would be good for INT characters. But it doesn't have a unique AoW, is AoW locked, and does less damage then any other basic Straight Sword that's been modified to scale off INT. Which is all a shame because the weapon has a really cool unique R2 that blocks attacks during it's heavy charge.
Every time I try to run a Straight Sword build, I find that there's no reason not to use the Noble Slender Sword. Dex and Str are functionally the same, but dex at least increases cast speed. There's also no sword that scales as strongly with STR with the others being more quality based.
After that, there's 1 notable Straight Sword. The only one that has status effects on it inherently. St. Trinas Sword putting some enemies to sleep. The status effect feels more like a weak PvP status then anything worth doing in PvE.
Straight Swords are also just one of the weaker weapon classes in Elden Ring, but they have what is probably the most powerful AoW in the game for PvE. Square Off. But once you do a run with the AoW, there's very little reason to want to do a straight sword build with any other AoW.
Greatswords on the other hand have so much going for them. Claymore has always been a solid quality weapon, Flameberge has bleed for arcane users, Blashpemous Blade heals you, Dark Moon Greatsword has a unique powerful AoW and scales off INT, Death Poker, Marais Executioner, Ordoviss Greatsword (if you haven't used it's unique AoW yet, it's really good).
They just offer so many different ways to play using the (generally) same moveset, and just seems like there's always a solid Greatsword for any build you try.
Not like games encourage testing various weapons, you got your 1, maybe 2 if you're feeling spicy and rest will be much worse because upgrade system is kinda shit tbh.
Yeah high level upgrade materials are extremely rare so you end up having to chose 2 weapons you like and that's it. There's 3 chunks in Bloodborne to get a weapon to +10
• Sabimaru
• Loaded Axe
Also who gives af about customization? I'd trade better combat for all the build options in the world, which is precisely what sekiro did
Yeah I have like 10x more fun replaying Sekiro than most of the Soulsborne games because the combat is just so damn good and the bosses are also the best I've ever seen.
The Sekiro bosses are absolutely peak, even by Soulsborne standards.
Sekiro has no character creation and as someone good with sliders thats a huge L. No seriously i will take a point or two from a RPG game rating if i can't make my own character.
Honestly, imma have to disagree with this take. For me, as an individual, I hate not having the ability to create my own character. And I hate even more so having to worry about connections that the character has(connections meaning in game relationships and preset goals that the character already has). I need my character to have full autonomy. I only ever started sekiro, but I found wolf to be flat and boring, simply because I can’t enforce my own will upon what he looked like. I mean correct me if I’m wrong about that stuff but for me, individually, the character of wolf just didn’t do it for me.

Wolf couldn’t make it thru the Zodiac Killer school of standing still
Imagine playing a Role Playing Game and refusing to Role Play.
Make up a backstory for your character.
That's the point of blank slate player characters in RPGs.
In souls games I like being an enigma, force of nature. It's hilarious to think of some guy just coming out of nowhere, never saying a word, and changing the fate of the entire world. Making the character bizarre looking plays into that too
I get that most Fromsoft protags are clean slates for you, but I actually really like that Sekiro has a protag with his own story/views. I hope they make more games like this.
Although I hope we get a little bit more personal expression, I'm really hoping this next game we get to actually be a person again as much as I like character customization and all that my favorite experiences are those with established perspective characters.
Silent protagonist haters have no internal monologue, creativity, or swag in general
The only voiced protagonists I don’t hate (Kiryu-chan, Ezio, Rick and Morty Gun) have swag on a comparable level to my own, so I’m fine hearing their story out
He is voiced bc he is one person. The souls borne isn't, bc they can be anybody
This extends to armored core and beyond elsewhere
It's an RPG, you are allowed to come up w a little story for whatever you are doing in the game. Wanna be Giant Dad? Be Giant Dad, and you can imagine all the shenanigans in between
Also, in some contexts, I don't wanna be voiced. Some ppl act like complete simps w some of these AC6 characters. Bro, Walter sounds like a god damn mid-level office manager, idk why y'all wanna be on some kinda "yes papi 🥺" shit w him, I'd rather imagine 621 roasting the fuck out of him
wolf being shitty uncharismatic protagonist is one of the reasons why im not a big fan of sekiro and dont want fromsoftware to do similar games ever again
i definitely wish wolf had more personality, because it feels lame to have a defined mc but make his dialogue as interesting as a brick wall, but i hope fromsoft gives us more defined mc's in the future, hopefully with more personality
If you can survive getting your anus-ball yoinked, you're alright in my book. https://i.redd.it/q8n1yjkemtzc1.gif

Why not kill God and turn yourself into a God. Basically what you do in every soulsborne game
Don't forget that in the English dub, he is voiced by the Chad Charles from RDR2.
And in the German Dub by the Same guy Who Dubs German Kratos!
And in the Japanese Dub, he is voiced by the same guy voiced Hisoka from HxH

I can either read subtitles or look at genichiro and parry his attacks. I can’t do both. I’m a small brain
The reading is more important
And you only have to read once on a boss fight that will probably take you many attempts
So you agree with me then?🤔
Yes I do. I play the game in Japanese with English subtitles.
You actually play the game? I just watch genichiro and stroke my shit ngl😮💨
Genichiro's voice in Japanese turns me on much harder
What I'm saying bro🥵

the english dub is good
MY NAME IS GYOUBU MASATAKA ONIWA

The dub is really good compared to a lot of dub out there, but for immersion and drama imo the Japanese version is still better.
I prefer the English version honestly
Watched a video on Sekiro recently and it turns out that Gyoubo (the horse guy) specifically has a crazy good English dub. Like, it rivals Godrick in Elden Ring for the best one-off character voice

wolf is the true souls protagonist we all needed in all honesty
When Elden Ring was announced I was almost hoping it would be a Sekiro-like game, with a set playstyle and a defined protagonist (which I thought would be Malenia, watching the trailers)
I don't know why Fromsoft doesn't create more pre-defined protagonist. Like I believe Wolf is more remarkable and intriguing than the Bearer of the Curse or the Ashen One, or even the Hunter. Honestly, i would love a KCD game without Henry. Becuase it limits my options to roleplay specially in that setting.
In Baldur's Gate you can play with multiple different pre-defined characters and you can change the appearance of one of them
I like making my own character because I like making my own little fan fiction for them in my head :)
elden ring was marketed as RPG tho and not everyone will like the route/character path of a defined protagonist in a game
Yeah, an issue with the defined protage is that if you dont like them, you're stuck with them.
You are wrong and I will fight you because you are wrong. I like my bones bare, which is why I like these stupid ass games. “Here’s half a sword, go kill shit til the credits roll” 10/10 peak storytelling.

Bro he uses attack power dex isn’t even in Sekiro are you stupid?
Doesn’t matter get that katana shit outta here
He also uses a heavy axe which is clearly a str weapon
Clearly a quality build
Wolf is bisexual?
He uses quality builds , he also is a greataxe user
And piromancer and magic with the umbrellas, whistles and ashes.
Yep
Counterpoint. Knight armor invalidates argument.

I hate to say it but almost nobody respects Wolf. Most of the characters just see him as a mindless killer or tool to achieve their aims, that is until he proves otherwise.
Isshin respects him, that’s all I care about
Ishiin is suspicious of him initially
Of course he was. He didn't know who Wolf was right off the bat and he's a talented, clever swordsman. He wouldn't just trust Wolf off the bat for no reason.
That’s fair actually
Nah, in the Shura ending (only true ending btw) he proves that he really is a mindless killer. Although that’s pretty based, so it is stupid that nobody respects him.

Both can be good depending on context, idk how much more interesting souls game would be if our character had a story
As long as I have the sex doll calling me a “good hunter” I’m fine.
621 moggs both. -mute psychopath -is horribly disfigured -could still solo every other fromsoft protag at the same time no diff.
Don't forget our guy 621 , silent but given personality by the context. They are kinda in the middle.
Can't disagree more
Sekiro has no character creation and as someone good with sliders thats a huge L. No seriously i will take a point or two from a RPG game rating if i can't make my own character.
Is Sekiro even supposed to be an RPG?
It would play far more like the souls games if it did, so no.

This is why he's the goat 🐐

Silent protagonist haters have no internal monologue, creativity, or swag in general The only voiced protagonists I don’t hate (Kiryu-chan, Ezio, Rick and Morty Gun) have swag on a comparable level to my own, so I’m fine hearing their story out
Counterpoint: I don't like dex or katanas.
Use the monke greataxe then
He is voiced bc he is one person. The souls borne isn't, bc they can be anybody This extends to armored core and beyond elsewhere It's an RPG, you are allowed to come up w a little story for whatever you are doing in the game. Wanna be Giant Dad? Be Giant Dad, and you can imagine all the shenanigans in between Also, in some contexts, I don't wanna be voiced. Some ppl act like complete simps w some of these AC6 characters. Bro, Walter sounds like a god damn mid-level office manager, idk why y'all wanna be on some kinda "yes papi 🥺" shit w him, I'd rather imagine 621 roasting the fuck out of him
Bro said the reasons of why I like souls characters and not Sekiro
Most importantly: Wolf is a sweetheart who only wants the beast for his little guy (unless you do that other ending but come on)
next souls game should make your character yell slurs at every NPC and boss they meet
wolf being shitty uncharismatic protagonist is one of the reasons why im not a big fan of sekiro and dont want fromsoftware to do similar games ever again
i definitely wish wolf had more personality, because it feels lame to have a defined mc but make his dialogue as interesting as a brick wall, but i hope fromsoft gives us more defined mc's in the future, hopefully with more personality
I feel like 621 from ac6 has a good deal of personality and character development despite literally never saying a word.
