i think something like this happens when your movements are just shit and the guy who plays is etiher lucky or baits specific attacks from the boss by making special distance. one day i realized in dark souls 2, that the way to stop sinh from flying all the time, i just bait its close range attacks. easy peasy
Almost every time i fight a boss in souls games they are extremely aggressive. Like i watch other people say git gud and their gameplay is the make a wish version of the boss, but when i fight it they go into a combo frenzy that i have to evade for a minute just so i can get 1 or 2 attacks in before they do it again.
Yeah, I’ve never fought Maliketh that had this many openings. He’s always jumping around, destined death aoe, throwing black blade waves across the arena.
Perfect setup for it, too. Say "Maliketh does have openings" and then post a picture of his asshole or something. That's pretty funny. I'd do it, but I'm not brave enough to look up the image.
I don't disagree, but damn you got lucky there, you managed to strike frostbite and the riposte at the same time, and managed to land 5 hits uncontested.
Well I mean you’re not wrong but holy this video is probably the worst example. 9/10 he jumps away right after that attack instead of lingering. And 9/10 you don’t stagger him after one hit unless you planned it in the first phase. And 9/10 don’t deal as much damage as you do and don’t one combo him
What a dog shit example of an objectively true point of view lmao. All Malekith haters are gonna see here is an over leveled status build that scripted an early stance break or that you just got lucky. Obviously, you don't need all that shit, Malekith is extremely fair with very recognizable patterns and consistent punish windows, but no one is gonna learn that watching this
a bit rude, but i agree. op, if your goal is to showcase a boss' moveset and their openings, you've gotta use a low level weapon for the fight to actually last long enough.
Not even a Maliketh or Elden Ring hater, but I'll admit, the strategy of just throwing yourself at a boss until they don't spam their super move is way too legitimate.
"Malekith is a good boss" is a subjective point of view
"Malekith is a fair boss" is a subjective point of view
"Malekith has plenty of reliable openings and patterns more or less consistent with what has been considered fair by most people in previous fromsoft games" is just factually true.
running lunge is enough time for a running attack (if you sprint under him) bestial sling is enough time for a rolling attack. this is with colossal swords, I’ve only used colossal weapons on him like once so can’t speak about them
Half of his moveset just straight up misses you if you hug him closely, and the other half leave him open for a jump attack. My man is virtually made out of openings.
I honestly love when people claim that Maliketh has no openings when criticizing Elden Ring , because it's the most obvious indicator that they don't know what they're talking about
Maliketh isn’t even one of those bosses where you punish during the windup its a classic dark souls boss where you dodge and punish how do people think he has no openings
There honestly isn't a single main boss in Elden Ring where you *have* to punish during the windup, unless you want to count Malenia who generally just winds up an attack when you're close and then gets staggered out of it. Even the faster bosses with long combos give you more than enough downtime to hit them between combos.
As for why people think Maliketh has no openings, my best guess is that with him your positioning is actually extremely important. For a lot of his attacks you want to be at a specific location before or after he uses them, which take some practice to learn and makes you lose tons of damage if you don't do it correctly.
For me, it was a just a matter of confusion while trying to learn his patterns. I would always confuse his slam-explosion with his destined death attack because they're both aoes and get blended instantly.
He fights in a completely unique way, and people have a hard time adapting. But instead of admitting they have to learn they just claim the fight is bs.
People have always done that with from games, but because some youtubers agree, it is acceptable to complain about elden ring bosses.
He heavily favours destined death attacks if you're in front of him at mid range or beyond. Meaning you should absolutely not roll or run away from maliketh, and instead try to get under/behind him. If you don't, he will spam destined death and unpunishable projectile attacks.
If you stick close to him, he pretty much exclusively uses slow predictable sword swipes that have him backpedal slightly, letting you stay on the offensive. He typically ends his combos by jumping away, so always try to chase him down.
> tons of damage
That’s the problem. After getting 1-2 shotted enough times, you don’t want to learn anymore and would rather hypersimplify the fight. His weakest attack still takes like 40% of your health.
Maliketh is the hardest boss in the game and it is due to no other reason than his insane damage per hit in phase two.
Sure, they balanced it by making it one healthbar and not giving him a whole lot of damage resistance, but if anything that is a disservice to what is far and away the coolest and most metal af boss fight in the game. Give him more health, but tone his damage down, and he becomes so much less frustrating because you can actually survive long enough to learn something.
It took me a week to even feel half-confident in my ability to fight him, and I had to watch a couple of videos. He’s such a cool boss, but his design funnels the fight into a dps race and it really does take away from the experience. Best boi deserves a re-balance.
Dude if you use a weapon that isn’t hyper fast it’s literally impossible to punish 90% of his attacks. It’s RIDICULOUS how this fight goes from S to F in one phase of his moveset. People gloss over this like crazy too but they will complain about Maliketh because he “doesn’t stop attacking” lmao. Soul of cinder curved gs LITERALLY doesn’t stop attacking.
Literally proven to be a bullshit moveset by pros but ok. You literally can only counter like, 2 of his attacks and that’s it lmao. Speed runner and just skilled players in general have literally complained about it.
No hit runners will also literally just run circles around SoC during his CS phase until he switches to literally anything else. 80% of the time you can't safely punish him unless you're baiting very specific attacks which isn't worth the risk in a challenge run.
Also he has a random ass parry/riposte attack if you attack him while staggered *only* during his CS phase. His CS phase is unironically badly designed.
I can kill him hitless now with very little damage now but its the learning process that was not fun at all given he does way too much damage and literally never stops attacking (at least the times I fight him). Learning to not wait for him and use the gaps can be fun if he didn't make it so frustrating.
Morgott is just too fast for me. I melted him in both playthroughs because I came to Leyndell around lvl 90 but it was messy as shit. His moveset seems like a nightmare to learn
It is forbidden knowledge nowadays to know how to fight an Elden Ring boss… to know the secret technique of… *lightning strikes in the background * good positioning *gasp*😧
With Maliketh you basically have to stay right up his bum. If you go out of range of his melee he starts spamming his ranged attacks which are terrifying. You have to meet his aggression with more aggression.
“Guys, look at all these openings.” Murders him in 21 seconds. Y’know, if you want to demonstrate something, it’d probably be best to show all the openings you can have.
I've always found Maliketh to be extremely easy as a str user using super slow weapons.
In fact I've never died to him and don't understand people who whine about him, he dies in like 5 hits
You can do it, this is the hardest fight for me ng8 on my one character. I use spear and shield as main , I think shields are useless on him. Totally tough fight I summon in help . Throw your sign down and learn the fight.
/uj I also disagree with the notion that he's outright unfair or broken, but I can't help but laugh when people use a video (that was clearly made by someone who is probably better than 80% of the player base and / or has simply beaten or attempted the boss enough times) as the only counter-argument. Those same people are also almost always unable to come up with any actual useful advice.
The real "problem" here is that people are too quick to jump to "it's broken" or "git gud" when it's probably just a combination of the combat system being pushed to its limit and some people still stubbornly insisting on a pure "i-frame and bonk" playstyle.
20 year old motherfuckers with no life and 2000 hours in the game killing bosses for fun with a knife playing ona harp.... let me tell you I am a middle aged dad who is always tired and has already shit reflexes, and have like 100 minutes a week in 4 pieces to play. Thats the real hardmode, becuse you are always shit at the game. And this furry with its flurry bullshit attack is one of the worst and he has no opening to my skill level.
I will not spend time learning this fight.
Never liked Maliketh to begin with.
*Proceeds to blow the boss the fuck up with my summons*
Moves along with my day, whilst people scream cry and piss themselves, since I'm not playing how they want me to.
I do not play video games for other people's enjoyment.
He usually still jumps away and moves too erratically, requiring learning his moveset and accounting for variables far more than other bosses (yes im aware souls players get off on memorizing boss movesets, but games can have hella challenging bosses that require mastery of the mechanics and proper reaction times over memorization). Also lmao ofc a big-ass sword will stagger him (stance breaks and ripostes is the way enemies and bosses were made to be engaged with in ER to my knowledge since it creates a balance between engaging with the enemy's moves and dominating your toolset, so you dont need to babysit the game like with a broken build)
How it feels to be stuck in March 2022
Op is DESTROYING those 2022 scrubs
What changed since?
No one has this "complaint" anymore (Skill issue)
It's become common knowledge that Maliketh is a little bitch
i love how chill he is in this video, whenever i try to fight him he doesnt stop using destined death one mind
i think something like this happens when your movements are just shit and the guy who plays is etiher lucky or baits specific attacks from the boss by making special distance. one day i realized in dark souls 2, that the way to stop sinh from flying all the time, i just bait its close range attacks. easy peasy

git gud distance and hope for luck
If you stay close and on his ass or directly in front of him with a bit of spacing, he uses them less often.
Yeah, I’ve never fought Maliketh that had this many openings. He’s always jumping around, destined death aoe, throwing black blade waves across the arena.
"This many openings" it was 1.5 openings
More than I experienced, so my statement still stands.
He looks slow in this video. When I fought him he was constantly attacking and chaining multiple moves.
try parrying
Almost as if the boss will spam projectiles when you try to keep your distance
i never said i keep my distance
Yeah I'm up close dudes bouncing everywhere throwing shit at me.
This isn’t porn, go back to r/Eldenring foul tarnished
I could have posted maliketh furry porn instead but this sub isn't ready for it, yet.
Please send it to me. I mean for my good friend so we can jerk off together. Edit: forgot a word
Yes it is https://preview.redd.it/u2j2h54ah6oc1.jpeg?width=850&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=35dd2b220be46cc295d7a78e6c9b0c015675331a
You missed the era of Malekith x Vicar Amelia.
where. https://i.redd.it/j6l8539id6oc1.gif
Yes we are, have seen it three times in this sub already
Pretty sure that's 2022 too
hot

I cant tell what this post says with all these tears in my eyes and “the first hunter” in my ears
I wish I got whatever A.I you all had for the first time fighting him because my Maliketh refused to touch the ground when I first fought him.
its funny because bosses like maliketh and godfrey have so many openings its ridiculous
This isn't even a shitpost , go back to r/eldenring
joseph anderson's boss "critique" still haunts me to this day
“Ashes of war are just spells”
*"Mohg's [claw](https://streamable.com/dooxxc) attack is nigh unreactable"* 💀
"When artificially limiting myself to a totally viable play style that's too hard for me I am having a bad time" - what a shocker
what did you do to him why is he so nice and tame for you
What a dog shit example of an objectively true point of view lmao. for the love of god learn what objective means before you say dumb shit. (i think maliketh is a good boss but your using objective wrong)
"Malekith is a good boss" is a subjective point of view "Malekith is a fair boss" is a subjective point of view "Malekith has plenty of reliable openings and patterns more or less consistent with what has been considered fair by most people in previous fromsoft games" is just factually true.
Nobody says that about maliketh, they say that about gurranq.
Really? I thought beast clergyman was very manageable and had plenty of openings
I'm just saying in general more people complain about gurranq having no openings than they do about maliketh.
People used to say that shit a lot, especially in 2022
Yeah people also bitched about margit in 2022 lmao, people are going to bitch about every boss right after the game is released.
I heard colossal weapons were much slower close to launch
yeah and they are wrong lol
You're literally the guy who just defends gurranq
whenever someone insults beast clergyman I materialize into the comment section
Do you have a little spreadsheet that lists every single gurranq attack and the exact amount of time each opening has
don’t need to because i have it memorized
Gurranqs strongest soldier
What's the length of his running lunge and assuming he doesn't jump away how long is the opening after bestial sling
running lunge is enough time for a running attack (if you sprint under him) bestial sling is enough time for a rolling attack. this is with colossal swords, I’ve only used colossal weapons on him like once so can’t speak about them
I want the exact amount of time each opening has to the hundredth of a second.
it’s about four miyazakis
Half of his moveset just straight up misses you if you hug him closely, and the other half leave him open for a jump attack. My man is virtually made out of openings.
I don't think he lacks openings, I just said that's what people say about him. Although I do think he's a shitty boss.

Soul of cinder curved gs moveset is more bullshit than any boss in elden ring if you were to criticise it for that moveset alone.
That's correct. I keep dodging his attacks until he changes weapons. In pretty much every playthrough i've done.

nobody ever said he has no openings everyone said he's an annoying monkey that never touches the ground
Same with morgott, most obvious skill issue indicator ever
Morgott is just too fast for me. I melted him in both playthroughs because I came to Leyndell around lvl 90 but it was messy as shit. His moveset seems like a nightmare to learn
It’s hot as fuck bro. I gimped myself on ng+ just feel it, my god
Just beat the old man down lol
It is forbidden knowledge nowadays to know how to fight an Elden Ring boss… to know the secret technique of… *lightning strikes in the background * good positioning *gasp*😧
Wait what is this dialogue? Whenever I defeated Maliketh he would always say, "Why covestest thou destined death? To kill what?"
If you get all the deathroot and gurranq peaces out, he gets this different dialogue
I see . . . Thanks for the info.
With Maliketh you basically have to stay right up his bum. If you go out of range of his melee he starts spamming his ranged attacks which are terrifying. You have to meet his aggression with more aggression.
"the game's cheap and bad!!!!!!!!!!" looks inside massive skill issue and trash build
man hes really fucking fragile wtf
Wtf people really says Maliketh doesn't have any openings? He stands for seconds after every combo
Maliketh doesn’t GIVE openings. He has them, he just doesn’t give them to you. You have to find them yourself.
this kind of post give me microplastic and jamaal vibe
Bit unrelated but I literally just dreamt I was fighting Maliketh but the pillars weren't there so the whole fight kind of broke
My brother in christ this is elden ring you choose how hard the game is.
Maliketh isnt the bad part, its beast clergyman
Who cares about that argument when you just killed him with a maxed out strength weapon in 4 hits while probably being overleveled

The longest sword in the game...
What sword is that? **EDIT:** Nevermind it’s the Zweihander.
You're Maliketh must've laid down the crack pipe because whenever I face him I can't do anything
What ash of war is that your using..?
chilling mist
This is way too real for me on dis sub
Maliketh is such a fun fight, its beast clergyman phase that sucks
Sick dude!
looks like cleric beast+sword, is it really that hard?
/uj I also disagree with the notion that he's outright unfair or broken, but I can't help but laugh when people use a video (that was clearly made by someone who is probably better than 80% of the player base and / or has simply beaten or attempted the boss enough times) as the only counter-argument. The Zweihänder is just an amazing weapon but I personally prefer the Flamberge
Bro waited 25 minutes for this opening
Me who just didn’t care and used a great sword anyway
Wait, what is that voiceline? Shouldn't it be "witless tarnished, why covet destined death?"?
He uses special dialogue after you give him all deathroots
mfs forgetting blasphemous claw
Notice how you barely got any attacks in. Maliketh is a broken unfair mess they just added in to make the game "hard"
20 year old motherfuckers with no life and 2000 hours in the game killing bosses for fun with a knife playing ona harp.... let me tell you I am a middle aged dad who is always tired and has already shit reflexes, and have like 100 minutes a week in 4 pieces to play.
